By FAR, the Best Travel Bag (& it's not even close)

  • I travel at least 100 days a year and have been for about a decade; as such, I've tried SO many bags and luggages, and in this video I share why this is, by FAR, the best carry-on travel bag and it doesn't even come close (from all the backpacks I've tried so far).

    ✅ Pakt Travel Backpack V2 🔗👉 shrsl.com/4ax35
Given that both the 45L and 35L both fit into international and domestic cage-testers, I recommend the 45L for MOST people since it's better to have the space and not need it, than to wish you had a bit more space. People who are shorter than 5'5" (165 cm) might lean towards the 35L - NOT because of any functional difference - but rather, because of a potentially slightly awkward appearance.

A quick note for those who have a 16" Macbook Pro (M1 of later). Although the 35L fits the 16" laptop in the central padded sleeve, the Macbook Pro specifically requires a bit of fiddling with the flap-cover. If you have a 16" Macbook Pro and want the smoothest in and out, the 45L is definitely the one for you.

When you are packing for a trip, really spend some time to "imagine" your day to day activities as you go through your itinerary. This will really help inform what to bring, and just as importantly, where to pack them depending on variables like frequency of use, how fragile things you bring are, and of course, how expensive things are to replace which would motivate you to store those items more securely.
    6:33 - Category 3 or 5
Even if you don't use this bag, it's good practice when packing for travel, to always have a pouch of the most frequently used items that pack right at the top so you never have to go digging to find those items that you often have to reach for - items like phone chargers and power banks are of course the first that come to mind, but depending on your preferences, pack with intentionality to make things more streamlined.
    7:22 - Category 4 of 5
By nature of using a carry-on-only bag, you're already taking a big step in securing your things. Checked luggage can get lost or tremendously delayed (especially if you have any transfer flights). There are many options to keep your things secure, but one of the most effective ways is to simply introduce one barrier that will make your bag even a TINY bit more difficult to steal or pickpocket. You don't need to turn your bag into a vault - you just need thieves to perceive your bag as more difficult that other bags near you. TSA approved combination locks are an absolute JOKE for anyone who is determined to break in, but I use them because they're enough to deter most pickpockets to target someone else without any barriers.

Maurice, I love your vids man, but you gotta review stuff that is more affordable more often. This bag is dope, but its priced beyond its value for most of us who only fly a few times per year. The video is interesting, but there is a sense of foreboding that hangs over the video with the price. I want to buy things you recommend because I trust your experience, but your value for money vs my value for money dont add up and it feels like we're completely out of touch. In addition I think its unrealistic to not include price/ value for money as "the only 5 categories that matter".

Maurice obviously likes a bag with lots of organization (pockets, compartments, dividers, etc.) made from fairly durable (heavier) fabric. Of course it's all about tradeoffs. As you say much lighter bags exist, and those bags will have fewer "organizational features" and, or lighter fabric or will be lower capacity. This is all individual preference. But having said all that, my preference is also for a lighter (less than 3 lbs) bag.

Generally 7kg carry on allowance here in Asia, with this bag you've got a large 45l capacity but only 3.5kg spare once you put in your laptop. Nice as it is smaller and lighter is more practical forme dealing with weight restrictions and carrying even minimal photo gear.

When traveling and going carry-on only, I use a 45l Incase clamshell duffle bag that they no longer make. It doesn't have the versatility of this Pakt but it's got plenty of volume thanks to it's rectangular shape and squared off corners. It's saved me plenty of times from being forced to check my bag in since I've been able to squeeze it into an overhead compartment that was "full". Frankly, there should be a lot more enforcement of carry-on sizing because when you're group 3,4 or 5 there should still be some room for luggage but group 1 and 2 rolled into the plane with their hard sided Away luggage which takes up all the overhead. But it's not all the fault of other travelers as a lot of blame can be put on the airlines as well. Creating subclass fares and not overhauling the overhead bins has caused major headaches too.

      @jam_is_jammin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The biggest problem is the people in Zones 1&2 put BOTH their carryon & personal item in the overhead bin. That’s selfish. Personal items should go under the seat in front of you and the space in the overhead bins should be cubbies that are labeled with your seat#. The airlines could fix this but they won’t. I travel carryon only and hate it when my luggage gets confiscated & “checked for free.”

@@jam_is_jammin I just came back from Orlando last week and jumped on an earlier flight than I was booked. Thanks to my soft sided duffle, I was able to avoid checking it in. But sure enough plenty of people put their backpacks and coats up in the overhead when it should be at their feet under the seat.

For Canadians the MEC Outpost 35L whilst not nearly having the number of pockets or modularity is a also a solid contender for travel pack, it's seems to be a diluted Cotopaxi 35L and the pricepoint is more reasonable for those in looking in that bracket.

Thank you so much for introducing this bag as I never heard of this brand. It does seemed like the perfect bag. It seems difficult to find a bag without using those waterproof zip with coating which starts to pill over time, loses its function and looks horrible. It also has a ok looking logo. I know. I’m very picky and I found a lot of bags out there got an ugly logo… and I love the fact that this bag also got a hidden pocket! I don’t know why it’s so hard to find similar design.

Hey man, huge fan of your videos. I rewatch your videos so often because I just love your philosophy. Would you happen to be a photographer? I’ve been dabbling in some photography, however, in line with your philosophy, I want to carry as little as possible while staying practical, especially when travelling. Would you happen to have any suggestions on EDC’ing a camera, or how you would incorporate a camera into your one bag travel system? Most camera bags I have looked at are whole backpacks themselves 😅

YO, this just randomly appeared on my feed so i watched it. This is quite impressive. I think one other thing I would want is the ability to unattach the middle divider where the laptop goes and place it in front or the back as well. Sometimes having the option for larger bulkier items has been beneficial and I've been using peak design stuff because that has given me the best versatility, however, that middle divider is something I also have enjoyed in other bags..

Looks interesting and well designed. Thanks for your thorough review. I have a few questions if you happen to read this months later - or someone else who owns one...
    - How is it holding up after months of use?
    - Will either size bag fit under an airline seat, at least when not fully expanded, or do I need to stick with the day pack for that?
    - How is the water resistance, would you rely on it for walking in the rain for an hour or so or does it need a cover?
    - finally at $300+ it's a bit spendy, what's your closest alternative that's in the $200 or less price range?

I prefer the YOREPEK Travel Backpack. It's a good size, tough, and has a built in USB setup for a power bank. I did add a cross strap to it for better fit. I've used it on a number of trips both local and overseas and it's worked great. I use storage cubes to help organize the clothing and the side, exterior pockets are good for shoes. It also has a cross strap to attach it to luggage with collapsible handles. And, it's only $28 vice $325!!

The Pakt has great features, but I'm sticking with my Peak Designer 45L Travel Backpack. I've traveled to three continents with it and it survived a monsoon, Saharan sand and heavy smoke from wildfires. I like how the Travel Backpack's straps can tuck inside a flap to avoid snags in transport. And the subdivider compartments are accessible on both sides of the bag. Plus it has two water bottle slots. My only complaint is the snap buckles to slim the profile down are essentially useless. One broke after a year of use, but Peak Design replaced the entire bag with a new one under warranty.

Watched all your videos on the Pakt Travel Backpack V2 and think it's a fantastic solution. I'm usually a duffle + backpack person for shorter trips, where the backpack has all my electronics and things I'd want on the airplane and then I can toss my duffle into whatever bin is open. I've also watched your review of the Alpaka Bravo Sling, which seems like a perfect pairing to this. I'm assuming yes, but can you easily put an empty Bravo sling into the expandable slot? That way, still one bag on the plane, but you have a carry-around bag once you're at your destination.

It looks like a great bag in either size, I favour the smaller, but the one issue I have is that it lacks security features like those found in Pacsafe bags. I have gone "all in" with Pacsafe and have a 40 Litre, a 10 Litre, and a fanny-pac...they're all slashproof and have hardware that lends itself to deterring thieves which make for a much more secure time traveling.

Love this! I've done my share of one-bag-travel experiments and trips, and I must admit I'm not a big fan of backpacks. Too much schlepping. That said, I carry A LOT of tech items with me, and I travel long-term (usually 3 months/trip on average), so I usually need a full carry-on case of some sort plus a full personal item bag for my tech/miscellaneous stuff. (Team carry-on only here).
And if I use a 40L carry on backpack as my "luggage", then I'm relegated to the 2-backpack strategy; big one on the back small one on the front - which I detest for so many reasons.
But I love these Pact bags! Got any suggestions for a long-term traveler?
