How to shift a triple stick transfer case

- I installed the Off Road Design Magnum 205 this past week into my truck and have been receiving a lot of questions regarding their operation and purpose. I hope you find this video helpful! I will be doing a more dedicated deep dive into the operation, function and use in a later video but thought this could clear up some confusion!

That's the setup I've been looking at, with the addition of two OX locker selectors

now i get it, the magnum box its a multiplyer or reduction for the transfer case. tons of torque for rock climbing, no engine effort

The shifter pan and mounting looks killer and super clean inside the rig now. Such a difference from a year ago. Great job James, totally jelly and the plan to copy is in progress!

Very cool, I have a NorthWestFab kit for my 07 SAS Tacoma. Waiting on the triple stick kit as well. Should be a fun install and learning experience.
Just be aware that the northwestfab triple stick kit will not give you the ability to independently control the front and rear axle like in this video if you use a Toyota transfer case for your setup

What is your total crawl ratio in double low? I’m also curious to hear your opinion on ideal crawl ratio both for an automatic and manual transmission.

IM INTERESTED IN THE MAGNUM BOX FOR NP205. NOW I´M CUSTOMIZING MY JEEP WITH HEMI 5.7, ZF5 TRANSMISSION, 1TON AXLES ( BOTH WITH STOCK GEAR RATIO 3.73 ) AND 42" TIRES SO IN ORDER TO DON´T REGEAR MY AXLES I WAS WONDERING IF INSTALLING THE MAGNUM BOX INSTEAD WOULD BE A SOLUTION
I will like to know if running with 2L in the TC or Low at the magnum box all time on-road (highway) at high speed will cause some issues like premature wear or failures.
So my ratios should be:
2.72 or 1.96 ON ROAD
5.33 OFF ROAD
Avoiding 1:1 cause I'm keeping the stock axle gear ratio (3.73)

I had the 10 spline 205, I had to inlarge the input shaft bearing from 80mm to 90mm to run the magnum, and yes it will be the same as your, just a nv4500 for transmission...
You can use a 10 spline on a nv4500?
@@oldtruckoperator2106 I know, I wanted the 32 spline 1992 Chevy Nv4500 and the magnum under drive from OffRoadDesign it uses a fat shaft input to the 205 that’s unbreakable, that with the 32spline outputs front and back of the 205 with cv drive shafts

Can you drive with both sticks in neutral and bypass tcase????
What would a truck with a factory divorced transfer case and another transfer case mounted to the main transmission and runs the front axle with the back transfer case running the rear axle give you? Would this be the same or similar to your setup? Seems like if you ran two transfer cases each axle could run independently?

When you do a 205 twin stick conversion, does it change the shift pattern? You would typically have a 2H, 4H, N, and 4L right? Now you have L, N, and H?
no pattern doesn't change, you can't put the front in H and the rear in L. You have H L L and L L L and LHH
You also have HHH. But, to answer the question above, the F/R are no longer controlled by a single shifter, so "2H" isn't a "thing". 2H = rear stick in H, front stick in N. But, otherwise, pattern stays same. H/N/L (no 2wd vs 4wd)

When I first saw all the sticks I instantly thought dual transfer cases. Now with one transfer case and reducer, can it get low enough to basically walk next to it while it's moving?
Oh yea. Still need to figure out final ratio but it is sloooooooow

Can you have the front axle in low and rear axle in high ?
No, the shifter won’t move to allow it. And the combo wouldn’t work internally, not to mention it would kill things

So i got a question
I have a 87 k5 that was has a sm465 swap and a np208, what do I exactly need for to swap a np205.
You wouldn’t happen to have a video or Picts of cutting the floor and installing the shifters?

What I did was mount the shifters to the floor and get them dialed in there then I made the shift pan for them all to bolt too. I had the case in and out about four times
Ord didn’t have much on the install. They did say I’d have to cut the floor or install a body lift with my current setup, so I’m removing the 2 inch up ring and swapping it for the stock rotation.
I have a cammed 6.0 ls swapped k10 on tons, 4l80e and magnum box 205, 38.5s and 5.13s. I'm wanting to know what stall torque converter your running? My double low pushes threw the brakes terribly. Love the blazer and channel.
I am running stock TC for now. This summit 8701 was the largest I could go without upgrade. I run 4.56 gears. Sounds like a killer build
@@MerricksGarage I've been running that same cam for about 2 years now. Geat upgrade. Interested in how your rig feels in double low. I had a 2900-3200 before the doubler but it was to loose for any type of steet driving so I went back to stock for now.
That’s good to know. I was looking for something lower like 2200-2500. How is your idle? I am dialing mine in with the Holley system now and it is still a little rough.
@@MerricksGarage Yeah I'm thinking closer to 2400-2700 for mine. It idles pretty well with that cam. Decent chop. I played with idle speed. 750-800 is where it seemed to run best. Seemed like yours was a bit low.
@@mattrolley7288 Is your truck a long bed or short? How far back does the 4l80 set your 205/magnum box? I have a K5 on tons and 42s. Im running a 700r4/205 now. I was given a th400 but might consider a 4l80 and Im a little concerned on the length

That's up to the 205 case. Ford 205's = drivers drop, Chevy 205 case = pass drop.

You need now is a sm465 with a torque splitter inFront... that would be a drive to see...
My CJ-7 runs an SM465 (6.55:1 1st gear), with an NP203/D300 doubler, with a LoMax 4:1 gear set in the Dana 300, and 2.03 gearing in the New Process 203. I run 4.88:1 R&P.
The doubler gives me essentially a 4 speed T-case (1:1, 2.03:1, 4:1 & 8.12:1), which with the 6.55 1st and 4.88 gears nets a crawl ratio of 260:1. SUPER low! I've never stalled it.

the 205 shifters would drive me nuts not being even in the same gear.
Function over form. There is still some room for adjustment but not to the degree that it affects shifter operation
