This is the greatest rendition of "Chameleon" I have ever seen/heard and I feel it would be a tragedy that any lover of Jazz Fusion not have the opportunity to experience this musical gem. This performance features one of the most widely recognized Jazz standards and features the impeccable talents of Terri Lynn Carrington on percussion, while Hancock's technical exhibition on piano/keys crystallizes for us why he is one of the best musicians/composers ever. - เพลง
MY GOD! The last 2 min of Herbie's piano solo is as funky as an acoustic piano can be played! He's simply the BEST in jazz fusion and all of jazz piano, I was mesmerized! THANKYOU Herbie, I'm your greatest fan
Happy Birthday to this Great Jazz Maestro & to Acting Great Billy Dee Williams!! Am I the only one who can see a staggering resemblance between these two great men? Gorgeous Arian Man Magic!! 💘 ♈
8:38 Those harmonics really were quite awesome. Love this song!
WHAT TO SAY AFTER THIS...
ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS
i THINK THE CHORD CHANGES IN cHAMELEON ()SECOND PART WITH HERBIE'S SOLO ARE MOST BRILLIANT MUSICAL MASTERPIECE IN FUSION...NEVER SURPASSED
4:48... best chord/mood change ever. Wish I could get my head round composing chords the same way...
Sami, I haven't sat at the piano or my bass to play note for note what he is doing. However I believe what we are hearing is Herbie super imposing chord changes over the II V... I believe he is playing lines on changes that are moving in minor thirds. Another words to me sounds like he's playing CHORD OVER CHORD. I also hear a lot of slipping in out Bflat Eflat, by a half step... What do you think? Have you sat down and transcribed it, more importantly try to figure it out by playing along? I would love to know if you have gained some connection that will make "getting you head round composing chords in the same way" I would love to know.... Thanks!
the drumming is amazing
Say what? Nothing compared to the original Harvey Mason grooves. Nothing. Not even getting close. Harvey's drumming made that track, it was so nervous, exciting and rushed, unbelievably funky. Note that he played on Benson's Breezin' as well. Unforgettable performance. Compared to that this one here is nothing. Nothing.
@@tamashorvath4429 Big call to say Teri Lyne is nothing. Herbie never works with anyone who is not good. If it is your personal preference fine, just say so but it's very unkind to diss any performer like that
SuperAtoZman Says, Still sounding Great Herbie...
Absolutely
I'd love to see Herbie and Stevie Wonder together playing this funk groove (and other songs-- both have written so many!!)
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life - The song AS - features Herbie on the keyboard.
Gotta love TLC such and inspiration for young drummers as myself!
Excellent!
Terry Lynne is funky!!
Thankkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!
ONE OF HERBIES BADDEST BANDS
1:53 for the licc
really goodddd
Yeah baby.
WOW
WoW!!!
Man it's straight up goin down up in there.
Maravilha !!
This performance is the truth though. I live these live shows because herbie does it a little bit different each time.
Who is the trumpet player
Wallace Roney RIP
the chord change at 4:46 ever kill me
Thanks so much for sharing this gem of a performance, and also in my opinion, the best performance of Chameleon I've ever heard. Nice to see TLC also killing it on the drums. I stumbled across this posting while looking for another version performed at Montreux with Alfonso Johnson and Leon Ndugu Chancler but this one blew me away. Is this available on DVD by any chance?
My best version
gotta agree with mark wellman
Not bad for a "girl", huh?
I'm just joking, though. Jazz fans know that Terri Lynne Carrington can hold her own with the best of the guys.
That said, you'll also love Harvey Mason's work on the original (full 16 minute version).
2 Words,Fucking Sick.
♥ ♥ ♥
Matthew Garrison on bass can "keep up" with anybody.
This Matthew Garrison plays the funkiest Bass I've ever heard on Chameleon!! Incredible!! I don't know why he doesn't have his own CD!!
Did sound better on the old analogue synths though.
legit
is this improvised
Fucking excellent!
Who’s on the bass?
Matt Garrison
when was it?
I think that was the Tokyo Jazz Festival. Don’t remember the year exactly. If I recall, it was before we recorded the live dvd at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.
Who’s the other keyboardist?
That me! Darrell Diaz. MD for Future2Future band.
oh my god, the keyboarder made an incredible solo and I though herbies gonna be just as nice. Then he totally killed me.
Wow, i was porb drunk at that time. Didnt even notice herbie played both solos
@@ichabedichlieb4745 hahaha
Thank you!
@@ichabedichlieb4745Herbie played the acoustic piano solo. I played the synth solo.
This band cant keep up with Herbie
Man that dude has some bad karma!

Almost as good as Maynard’s version.
