It never ceases to amaze me how infinite and original Hancock is when it comes to grooves ans timing. He literally sometimes plays when you least expect it, and it's always tasteful...listen to those chords at 07.48...all that seems to be a tad after one and ending a tad after two ???? how the hell does it sound do amazing...it defies all logic.
Because one pulse contains a whole universe of inter-related pulses... see the clip of Fran Zappa's drummer, Terry Bozzio, "5 is 7 and 7 is 5" I think. He explains it better than I do.
Still the best of ... name them all! in 2024, they still rock together like never before. Never got old. More than 20 years ago - just incredible amazing. We just hear Miles on the background... Roy Hargrove is the best. This is just the best take of this tune ever. Love Teri! Not te mention the great Lionel, Munyungo, Wah Wah, Marcus and Herbie.
This IS crazy mates ! Drummer till my young age.... i Always Heard in my soul those groovy vibes that's only make sense and gave me shiver when i ear this groovy session.... The best ever..... Thousands blesses to all of u guys..... Lots of kisses to all of u who are able to understand this wonderfull band's xchanges.... 💪🤙☀️🎉🌈 Sorry for my poor english spoken..i'll did my best 🙏
Here’s how you get that good at being a musician. Number 1, being a Black American is a good start due to the gifts given to them by God. Number 2, having other gifted Black Americans in your band. Number 3, practice, practice, practice!
Hancock playing this. Add the A1 to the Med in late spring. A beautiful CX. Two lovely fractious daughters in the back. And a wonderful wife by my side. Reinvented Heaven...
Killin' band. Wah Wah Watson going a bit into Sonny Sharrock's land @ 3:48-57. Great call and response exchange between Herbie and Roy starting @ 8:14 - some truly sick/scary lines.
Spirituelle, sensorielle et rebelle, la musique de ces compositeurs reflète encore des impostures secrètes, explore des plaisirs sereins, un monde de rêves renaissants 💥
Thank the Lord for TH-cam. This particular Herbie set in Tokyo would not have been seen... watch it now in its entirety... I like the youngsters: Hargrove on trumpet and fluglehorn and Carrington on drums. This some boss shit here!
I absolutely love this song and the studio version but they sound so different! It's almost like two completely different songs. Also, it's a shame the intro wasn't as good in this version as it's so cool.
I just checked out this Kool song that I will be playing Saturday Feb 9th @ The Livery in Benton Harbor Mi with "Leo Nocentelli" & the Marcus Robinson Band ! I had to think this one out and I'am bringing my heavy duty toys with my own power QSC 850 Pa too lol
I'am bringing out the big toys I use for this tune for sure ! Concert with Leo Nocentelli & Marcus Robinson band Feb. 9th @ 9 pm oh ya & Dawn Burns on Vocals too !
Haha, you better check some of the other Marcus Miller and/or Herbie Hancock stuff. Moreover, a simple bass groove like 'Papa was a Rolling Stone' can be just great for the rest of the band to be really jammin' around that groove. He's staying simple for the unity of the band, because he knows overplaying in this song would be strange and risky in harmony terms I guess. I'm not sure, I'm just assuming. But don't worry, Marcus Miller has HUGE BALLS when it gets to bass.
Do you see this ? Tokyo Jazz 2005 Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo, Japan August 20th, 2005 Click on SHOW MORE And the list below appears . Herbie Hancock's Headhunters '05 Band: Herbie Hancock (p) Terri Lyne Carrington (ds) Roy Hargrove (tp,flh) Munyungo Jackson (perc) Lionel Loueke (g,vo) Marcus Miller (b,bcl) Wah Wah Watson (g)
First, how would you even begin to rate a musician? That's like trying to rate an artist. Sure, some got the chops that others don't maybe, but in what discipline? I know classical players who can't get with jazz players, so it really ain't about that, is it? Some sight read. Some don't or can't. Others are so locked in they can sit with Herbie or any of these cats and do the thang. Much of the time, a lot of what's done onstage isn't even charted. It just happens.
i went to like the video but realized i had already liked it.

Wow what a blow....first Wah Wah Watson and now Roy Hargrove (trumpet). Tough. Bless them both.

I cannot fathom how you get this good at being musicians.
Did you expect anything less from Herbie ? I like this version.....it rocks and grooves.
Practice until you want to die. After that, keep practicing.
Same way you get to Carnegie Hall.
Here’s how you get that good at being a musician. Number 1, being a Black American is a good start due to the gifts given to them by God. Number 2, having other gifted Black Americans in your band. Number 3, practice, practice, practice!
I just never get tired of watching this video again & again. Powerful, huge
This is the best mix of funk and jazz I’ve heard in a long time. Solid band. Legendary leader.

I know you can't compare a bass player to a trumpet player, but Marcus Miller is the best musician in the world since Miles Davis!
You never heard victor wooten
Very nice but no bass player can ever equal Paul Jackson in this piece. Rip Maestro

Sorry, man but Marcus's bass line on this version did not do the tune justice....the original bass line = way better.
Fuck, this is so nasty🥶
Bad Mix Audio
Excelent musicians
