Love that you're digging Slipknot. During their first and second album, they were going so hard it almost split them up from what I've read. Yeah man, same. The lyrics on Iowa don't always make sense, but they express so well the rage and feeling of not belonging. Not least combined with Corey's insanely honest delivery. The vehemence with which he sings "What the f are you looking at? I'll tell you what you're looking at: Everyone you ever f'ing LAUGHED AT" resonated so with me as a teen, and still does 20+ years later. The whole Disasterpieces dvd is amazing. Best live dvd ever. Surfacing, Heretic Anthem, Custer and AOV are a must. Plus you have to see them do Spit It Out live at Download 2009.
Yeah. Slipknot has matured a lot over the years and are probably better now than they were back in the Iowa days, but there's something gritty and fascinatingly hostile with their early music that they've lost over the years. As much as I love their recent music, Iowa will always be my favorite album. Probably because it fit perfectly with where I was at in life, personally, at the time of its release. What's cool about the album is that, amidst all the angst and everything pumped up to 11 musically, you can still faintly hear the more intrinsic sound deep in the background that they would eventually bring to the forefront. They are so incredibly talented musicians even this early in their career, and while it would take a while for that to really blossom into something they dove deeper into, it's still an unmistakable part of the album. That's one of the main reasons I love Gentle as much as I do. It's a very tightly-controlled but extremely menacing song. It's like a combination of what they were back then and what they would eventually become, in the best way possible. Great reaction. It's always fun to see people appreciate early Slipknot. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it's a *damn fine* cup of tea if it's your thing.
You posted this on my birthday 👍🏻 I was actually at this show and it was insane as it looks I walked out with 2 broken ribs and a lot of cuts and bruises. Over 20 years of going see band live and nothing has compared to this for me. Best gig and night ever!
First time ever going to a slipknot concert this past Thursday and they opened with this song.. I’ve never felt an adrenaline rush like I did when the concert started. Got sucked into the mosh pit and I was like “eh, fk it” and moshed for a bit 🤣🤣
Great i am glad that you listen and give it a try. Btw not just Joey passed out, also bassist Paul Gray tragicaly died on medication overdose in 2010 and percusionist Chris Fehn (that guy with long nose) was fired from the band in 2019. Now on the drums is Jay Weinberg, on the bass Alessandro Venturella and on percusion Michael Pfaff. Btw they can go heavy like this even these days. From two latest albums i recommend songs like Custer, Orphan or Nero Forte but if i would be you go from start, start with their debut album live shows or videoclips and continue to their newest albums so you get the idea of their progression.
Slipknot used to turn things up to 10 from the start always. But THAT tour, they went to the infamous 11 from beginning to end! That was Slipknot in their absolute prime! 🤘 🤘☠️Paul💀Joey☠️🤘 RIP✊
I have seen hundreds of bands live from all different genres. Been a Slipknot fan since day one. Their genre isn’t my favorite but seeing Slipknot live is in my top 5 shows of all time so far. The experience was a life changer for sure in a very positive way!
I got to see Slipknot in Florida at Ozzfest in 2001. It was probably the best concert I've been too. This was maybe a month before their Iowa album came out and they did a bunch of songs from it. It was our first time hearing these songs. It was so good.
I love how excited and out of words you are 😅, also Alex from Slaughter to Prevail did a cover of this song and it's absolutely amazing I think you would most definitely enjoy it.
Slipknot's first three albums helped me so much through middle and high school. Parents would've KILLED me if they found out I listened to them, lol. Three albums later, I still can't get enough. Can't wait to see what the next one brings...
This concert film, hands down, is easily in my top 3 concert films of all time. Depending on mood, probably fighting it out for 1st with The Prodigy's Warrior's Dance Festival concert film.
Lol I love the "metal hand" you do when you're really feeling the music. Slipknot has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard them in 2003. Love it when people discover them!
I got hold of this concert DVD by accident but I got obsessed on the spot. It spoke to me. I can air drum most of it , I am air drumming right now. I was going to go with "scary", but I guess disgusting isn't far from it. You should react to Joey`s (RIP) drum solo (like, tomorrow). It will relax you.
This is one of my favorite Slipknot songs ever but for me their song “the heretic anthem” is even better. Any Slipknot fan has to listen to that song at least one. You won’t be disappointed, I promise.
I saw them 21/22 years ago at the Agora in Cleveland. So not hug arena or anything. Sid was doing flips off the balcony into the crowd. They were lighting each other on fire. It was pure chaos and amazing.

There’s no such thing as an “expiration date” or being late to the party when it comes to discovering music. Slipknot is one of my all time favorite bands and I actually just finished learning this song on guitar. I’m so hype to record a cover of it
Music comes with time, great vid keep it up. :)
Iowa was pure rage dont dont care what slam, death band you listen to nothing will match its brutality
I like your reaction here! You earned a new subscriber 😁🤘🏻Slipknot is my all time favorite band
You won my heart by honoring Joey before getting into the video. I won't fault you for not mentioning Paul who died much less recently, in 2010.
The whole Disasterpieces dvd is amazing. Best live dvd ever. Surfacing, Heretic Anthem, Custer and AOV are a must. Plus you have to see them do Spit It Out live at Download 2009.
YES YES YES! Love you for this one. Can't wait for it!
Gently in this same concert is also amazing!
You posted this on my birthday 👍🏻
I was actually at this show and it was insane as it looks
I walked out with 2 broken ribs and a lot of cuts and bruises.
Oh god how I wished you were reacting to the drum cam from this. Joey 4 evah!!! The absolute reason I really got into playing drums 20 years ago.
Slipknot in their prime was an absolutely brutal thing to experience.
🤘☠️Paul💀Joey☠️🤘 RIP✊
You definitely HAVE TO DO...
People = $hit next...Live version at this very same concert....please of course lol
Yeah, that song as the show opener is absolutely fantastic.
Haha. Can’t wait to see your reaction. It’s the opening song of the concert I’m going to tonight🤘🤘🤘
I saw them in Providence this past May and they opened with this song, so fuckin good!
@@SmallpoxBrownies 🤘🤘🤘
I love how excited and out of words you are 😅, also Alex from Slaughter to Prevail did a cover of this song and it's absolutely amazing I think you would most definitely enjoy it.
Still have this live performance DVD
Iowa was a different animal all together. Till this day London 2002 is in their top concerts of all times, if not their best concert.
Slipknot's first three albums helped me so much through middle and high school. Parents would've KILLED me if they found out I listened to them, lol. Three albums later, I still can't get enough. Can't wait to see what the next one brings...
Brilliant reaction. I was there and also saw them when they first came to london.. Which was an insane atmosphere .. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
i subbed not because of this song not because slipknot.. but because you chooses this version.... you have taste
This concert film, hands down, is easily in my top 3 concert films of all time. Depending on mood, probably fighting it out for 1st with The Prodigy's Warrior's Dance Festival concert film.
Not only have I heard this legendary song but I've seen it live. But this is theist amazing song in the world
rip joey jordison a drumming legend.
I discovered them 3 years ago. Yeah. It’s been a ride. Reawakened me to rock.
Lol I love the "metal hand" you do when you're really feeling the music. Slipknot has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard them in 2003. Love it when people discover them!
I saw them in 2000 at tattoo the earth tour that was the first show for me and was hooked on them since
Check out spit out live in this show. How the crowd rips into the Dj while he is trying to tell the crowd to sit down. It's epic
My friend gave it to me to watch and then said I could keep it.
what about sids solo into eyeless, that transition is so smooth!
@@crayzeewhorse that too or the Spit it out part, I could have gone with "react to the whole thing".
@@petkucius yeah, basically the whole DVD 😅
welocom to the family. these reactions always remind me of paul and joey.
You need to checkout the drum cam of Joey playing this song at this show! Really demonstrates on how incredible he was!
This is one of my favorite Slipknot songs ever but for me their song “the heretic anthem” is even better. Any Slipknot fan has to listen to that song at least one. You won’t be disappointed, I promise.
The Heretic Anthem is not that good. It’s generic as fuck and edgy. Everything Ends is a better song than track 6.
@@decoil everything ends is a great song, to me it’s all catchy, the whole album.
I saw them 21/22 years ago at the Agora in Cleveland. So not hug arena or anything. Sid was doing flips off the balcony into the crowd. They were lighting each other on fire. It was pure chaos and amazing.
Slipknots prime.. young and fucking wild even though they are great until today Slipknot older days kicks differently 🤟🤟🔥🔥 keep digging older Slipknots live performance your F! BEAUTIFUL ❤❤😍🔥🔥
