I bought one six months ago and I'm totally addicted to it... I go out on it every day, its ability to do wheelies is absolutely phenomenal one of the best bikes I've ever had, great for scratching around town and darting through traffic due to its ultra lightweight in high-power, Hubba Hubba
After owning this bike for a week I can't really understand why so many people call it a monster and that it is too much to handle. Quite honestly, I was expecting it to be a lot faster than it really is and a lot harder to ride. Don't get me wrong, it has plenty of power but just a bit too overrated by many reviewers. I had an MT-07 before and the MT-09 is just as easy if not easier to ride. It is a lot smoother in my opinion. It is a great bike nevertheless and it pulls damn fast up to 200 kmh. Just a lot better bike to ride compared to the MT-07 in my opinion. It has a slightly different engine character. Surely it must feel like a torque monster if you are coming from a 300cc or an inline four 600. After MT-07 though, it didn't feel like a monster. It just makes me laugh my ass off everytime I give it the beans. It power wheelies on A-mode, A LOT. Even on 3rd gear at 8000 rpm when you're accelerating hard. It just bends your back and stretches your arms to the max when you push it hard, lol. Such a fun bike. On A-mode, it is surely aggressive. It makes the throttle very responsive and unleashes the full potential of the engine. On B-mode though, the difference is huge. Makes the throttle extremely smooth, good for city riding and for newer riders. Personally, I mostly use Standard mode all around. It is the most balanced one. I barely use B-mode, and A-mode only when I'm riding aggressively at the twisties. A-mode is a bit too jumpy for city riding making it harder to maintain a steady low speed. In total, I would recommend it over the MT-07 any day.
It's absolutely fine for a daily bike, commuting and occasional mountain rides. The suspension will only slow you down when you are pushing it hard enough through corners and you can make it slightly better by adjusting it. When you are riding hard, the front feels a bit vague and you can't feel the road as good as you might want to. I just rode the MT-10 and the suspension on that is way better. If you ride the 09 a lot on tracks, you should upgrade the suspension. For daily usage, I have not found it an issue. Maybe the only "downside" I have noticed on the road is when you use the front brake hard, the bike tends to bend over a lot to the point you almost feel like lifting the rear wheel to the air, but it doesn't actually do that. Then again the suspension is what you pay for, and the MT-09 is certainly a bargain compared to the majority of similar bikes. If you are really worried about the suspension you can invest about $1000-2000 more for Öhlins etc. or go for another bike. After all, every 09 owner has their personal opinion about the suspension. You should take the bike for a proper test ride and see for yourself.
+Ta3kno thanks for your reply. a test ride is definitely on the to do list. I am trying to decide if the 09 or the street triple will be a better bike. have you ridden a street? if so what did you think of it compared to the Yamaha ?
I haven't ridden a Street Triple but from what I've heard, it is a better balanced bike all around. It has less power so I doubt I would be interested in it over the 09. And as amanoncrack said I could bet my ass Yamaha is more reliable and cheaper to maintain. MT-09 is just brutal on A mode, makes you a total hooligan. That front tire goes up and down constantly on 1st and 2nd. Shredding through rear tires as well, I had to change my rear tire at 3500 miles because it had literally no tire pattern left. I have about 5000 miles now and expecting to book the 6000 mile maintenance soon.
Guys what do you think about a twin-turbo nitrous injected hayabusa as a first bike? It's between that and a kawasaki h2. I am afraid that i will get bored with the power of the h2
+bakerXderek Yamaha needs to figure out what colors do not go well together. Those gold forks on a yellow bike makes me want to puke. Almost any other color would look better, including pink, neon green, or torquoise. If they could not figure out how to make them yellow, then black would of looked just fine. Then they will leave just a few touches of chrome, like the yoke nut just to add to the ugliness. Then top it off with a warning sticker on top of the tank.
@@bluediamond2784 Serbia too but ć is not pronounced like ch that is with č but they are very similar in sounds but ć is lighter literally the difference of a centimeter placement rearward of the tongue for č compared to ć.
I love this bike in every way....I can't wait to upgrade to one from my '12 FZ8. As much as I've come to love my FZ8, I will undoubtedly get an FZ09 in the future
went from a 2010 1200xl custom to one of these, and WAY more fun and the power is a whole different beast all together. put over 1000 miles on it in less than 30 days, I am extremely glad I bought one of these!
I love my Fz6r. Dont let pictures fool you. The bike looks 100x better in person. I bought a fender eliminator, flush mount turn signals for the front, and an led tail light that has built in sequential turn signals. It looks and rides Awesome. The only thing i havent done to mine is change the rear view mirrors. To me it is very comfortable you can choose to ride it aggressively or just sit up and cruise on it.
Just did a demo ride on one of these yesterday. No exaggeration on the torque, it is absolutely face melting. Will be buying on in the next couple weeks, super stoked.
My friend has this exact bike in orange with the same akrapovic pipe on it. It is amazing. I am finishing studies this year and starting work in January and getting my first bike soon after that. I keep on looking for other contenders to not get the exact same bike as my friend but the more I see and hear the FZ-09 (MT-09 In my country) the more I fall in love with it.
+TNE_IMPOSSIBLE well the fz-07 looks better, is more comfortable and has plenty of power for new or experienced riders. Ive owned 6 bikes ranging from Buell 1125R to WR250X supermoto. That said, the FZ-09 is very comfy too, doesnt look quite as good (in my opinion) but has A LOT more power. B-mode as chase here says, makes it very controllable though.
thanks for the video @chaseontwowheels, i drove one today and giggled as much as you did! and yes, it has a bunch of torque, the clutch was very tight, grabbed a lot sooner than what i used to. over all very fun bike!
Thanks for covering all the power modes. Lots of reviewers forget to test them. The A is really crazy :) I tried the bike 2 days ago. The torque is really addictive and it's really a problem to keep it within speed limits :)
Chase i have one Question.. How tall are u? its importent for me to know cause i want to buy my first Bike and im watching all your Rewies. (all other vids of course too) Im 1,92 Meters high and many motorcycle are to small for me :/
+woodster72 I will do ;) I dont now at this time if i should buy it or not. I'm interested in so many motorcycles for mayby the R3, the Husqarna Nuda 900R or the FZ-09 its a hard decision
When you made the analogy about supersport's power in a deep dark dungeon that you have to find and then kill a boss to get. What a beautiful analogy; props to you sir and great video!
That was nothing less than a sensational ride along, I looked at the F-9 this morning, this one was in a matte black finish (I loved it!) I didn't get to drive it, but I think that is going to be a "must do" before I buy, I'm an older guy (60's) but there is still that little bit of horsepower junkie in me. I've been riding since I was 16, and I did own a Kawasaki H-2 500 triple.. that was crazy wild on torque. I think your vid sold me on this. THANKS!
I've been waiting for you to review this bike in order to confirm what I already know about mine! (Ever since you mentioned it when testing the FZ-07 a while back) It's such a joy to watch other rider's excitement and that I'm not the only one who grins from ear to ear when hopping on the FZ-09.
I love my Zero SR, it's lots of fun, but it's going back to the shop for the third time due to the onboard charger failing. The bike itself is fantastic. Charger es el sucko.
DUDEEE This bike is literally a dream to ride. It was so hard for me to leave it at the dealership after I test rode it. I just knew that I needed it. But didnt have the money for one. BTW, A mode doesnt give the FZ more power, It just increases throttle response and input. But it feels INSANE
Yeah that's about how I sounded when I test drove one. And that was the best analogy for the difference in power between that bike and supersports that I've ever heard.
My EXACT thoughts. Wtf was yamaha thinking with that seat and there's no good aftermarket set ups last time I checked. That new highlighter theme for the 16 model kind of makes up for it.
I have essentially the same bike (2014 with the same exhaust) and this review encapsulates the experience perfectly. No number or spec sheet remotely describes the ride this bike provides. Compared to my friends 2008 CBR1000rr this requires more focus to ride in STD or A mode, the throttle response and torque is mental. It wheelies on demand under power and puts a smile on my face every single time I twist the throttle. Yes, the suspension leaves a lot to be desired but that can be fixed easily and shouldn't scare you away. I also never thought I'd appreciate the rider mode select, but B mode is fantastic for two up and for those times you need a slightly less wild ride.
Dude, you are one of the best bike reviewers on TH-cam. And your intro music is always great. You're gonna be responsible for me spending all my money on bikes one day, haha.
Chase, I'm not sure if someone mentioned it already (I don't want to read 830 comments to find out haha), but this bike in Europe is called the MT-09, and the MT stands for Monster of Torque, so... there: it's understandable that this bike has so much Torque!
I do love this bike too, but only in the Sport Tracker variant. The MT-09 Sport track is just so beautiful and the scrambler look really does fit it well.
Had a Sport Tracker for 5 years, with that same exhaust. Trading her in for a 2022 MT10 in a couple of months. It's a stupid bike, like a jet powered pogo stick at 80mph+
Wow I can't belive this. That bike was at Mt. Motorsports in roswell, Ga and they were wheeling it outside the same day I bought my fj 09. Small world.
This bike by looks alone has my full attention. I'm old guy who grew up riding inline standard style bikes which had power ( relatively speaking)but comfortable enough to cruise around all night and take to school the next morning.....my point being I can't find another upright standard non touring bike from any company accept this fz9 . And now that I see this test ride , well , I'm hooked and spring is just around the corner...
Finally! I love this damn bike, believe it or not I was checking eBay and CL for a used one then said to myself just wait another year, then I came on YT and I see this. lol. The universe wants me to get a FZ-09. lol So much torque and the triple sounds soo gooood!
I have one of these bikes and put 2500 miles on it in 2 months. Absolutely love it. The only thing you have to add in my opinion is some kind of windscreen. I added a puig touring screen and it is 10x better.
These things are a beast of a bike, its really hard to justify a bigger/badder bike than this for something to commute with Mon-Fri and carve canyons on the weekends. The Titanium Akrapovic pipe that's available for these shoots flames which adds to the sheer badassery of this bike.
Really wanted an FZ09, especially in this gorgeous yellow. Unfortunately being 21 the insurance was crazy high. So I settled for a 2015 FZ-07. Which is also an amazing bike.
You are the bets v-logggeeerrrr on Y-Tube man! Sick vids, keep it up! I got an R3 thanks to your reviews, it helped me finalize my thoughts and I love riding! Thank you!
I have that bike and I did just romp around in A-mode all day long today. Buy one, you know you'll love it. Also I have had the front wheel come up while riding at 125mph in 5th gear in A-mode due to a slight bump in the road. Also accelerating hard while shifting gear will bring the wheel up between 1st - 2nd and 2nd - 3rd.
i watched your video on the Z-07, liked it so much i just went out today and got one. love your reviews, i was on the fence for awhile about getting a bike but after watching your other video i knew what i wanted to do. thanks for push i needed it. i'll keep you up to date on what i think of the bike. late.
Awesome review man, and I love the intro. I just bought a blue 2016 FZ-09 based on research I've done and this review. It will be delivered to my house in the morning (I have no one who could drive my car home for me today). I can't wait. I'm over in Augusta, if you ever want the chance to ride one again for purchasing "encouragement", just hit me up lol.
I just did over 7,000 miles on my '15 09 in 24 days. Indiana to the west coast and back. I fucking love this bike. Doing wheelies in the desert in the first 3 gears with full panniers, dry bag, and tank bag was a hoot. Seat does blow. Lots of aftermarket options though. It's not that the front end is heavy. It just needs better fork cartridges. Easy mod and it's a-ok
awesome review and bike! I had my eyes set on the FZ-09 when it showed up at the international motorcycle show few years back here in ATL. Ended up getting a Streetfighter but that triple sound is hard to ignore! Oh and You were minutes away from my work!
Rode and reviewed the 2015 FZ-09 and posted a vid yesterday, loved it. Needs stiffer springs, custom seat and a pipe (maybe a fly screen) but that's about it. Great ride and great value! +chaseontwowheels gave you a shout out in the video and a link.
The yellow one is the best. Thing is really unwieldy and a maniac to ride haha. Front wheel never wants to stay down. But fun. And the sound even stock is wicked!
I've been riding mine since December. This is how I ride: A mode highway only. Standard mode: city and moderate highway traffic. B mode: heavy traffic on highway and city and/or when going between cars at very low speeds. There's no point in using A mode if you're not gonna go fast.
Man I am so jealous with you right now. With me sitting here in Dubai office, doing some idle time. God, I am smiling every time you are laughing out of enjoyment.
I have and love this bike, (They have cam chain issues though, makes a lot of noise don't know if it's a legit problem yet.) All I do is romp around in A mode. God bless it's little heart.
The thing that doesnt do anything at 5:10 is the pre-fixed place for the heated grip controld you can buy as a upgrade. 2 years to late but maybe someone was curios ;)
The FZ-09 is an amazing bike. However, I did find that spending a longer amount of time in the saddle it was not as comfortable as I would have liked. I ended up with a Ducati Monster 821. The comfort of my bike compared to the FZ-09 was much greater. That said, the amount of fun you can have on the 09 is amazing. It is a very well built bike. Suspension is the biggest issue that you will find with any review and that is because it is very true. Other than that the bike is great, along with the amount of money that you pay to purchase for what you get is ridiculous! Definitely worth the test ride if you get a chance.
I have the 2014 model, and it has taught me more about throttle control than any other bike I've had. Love that bike!

I know right, lolol.
TH-cam hasn't fully processed the upload yet. Give it 10 minutes and it'll be in 720
I know why i was just being funny :)
okay haha, sorry just used to all the trolls that don't understand how it works :') sorry bout that man
Nah its cool, i knew you were just lookin out
dude I rode the 2014 fz09 and fell in love, best naked bike out there.
#frontWheelDontGiveAshit
Dude, you are one of the best bike reviewers on TH-cam. And your intro music is always great. You're gonna be responsible for me spending all my money on bikes one day, haha.
Chase, I'm not sure if someone mentioned it already (I don't want to read 830 comments to find out haha), but this bike in Europe is called the MT-09, and the MT stands for Monster of Torque, so... there: it's understandable that this bike has so much Torque!
Your "first ride" videos are the best I've seen yet, anywhere on the net. Keep's coming! Cheers!
My MSF instructor was riding one of these and has got me really thinking about this to be my 2nd bike along with my DRZ400S.
Dont get it, get something else make this like your 5th bike, its no joke you need a to work your way up to it
Thank u Chase :) Knew you would love it. Its a beast and soooooo much fun! Bought it and wouldnt trade it in for nothin!
Finally! I love this damn bike, believe it or not I was checking eBay and CL for a used one then said to myself just wait another year, then I came on YT and I see this. lol. The universe wants me to get a FZ-09. lol
So much torque and the triple sounds soo gooood!
The sound with this Akra is just amazing!
Nice vid man!
So glad you finally rode this bike! Have the same one in the vid, so torque and sweet.
I've been waiting for the C2WFR of the FZ-09 thank you, you have sealed my decision for next riding season.
+Clint Linder No problem man. Enjoy it. It is a hand full...and very very fun handful.
It's so hard to keep these front ends down!
i watched your video on the Z-07, liked it so much i just went out today and got one. love your reviews, i was on the fence for awhile about getting a bike but after watching your other video i knew what i wanted to do. thanks for push i needed it. i'll keep you up to date on what i think of the bike. late.
Have had mine since May '14...but I really need that Akro exhaust. Love seeing how much fun you had on it!
I loved your description of the power! Here is the sword! You don't have to go through the dungeon or kill a boss!
New to your channel man but I'm already in love with all these bikes and everything about your channel!!
awesome review and bike! I had my eyes set on the FZ-09 when it showed up at the international motorcycle show few years back here in ATL. Ended up getting a Streetfighter but that triple sound is hard to ignore! Oh and You were minutes away from my work!
Hey Chase, I really wish you could buy this bike. You sound like you're completely in love with it.
Finally got to swing a leg over one of these the other day.. I'm completely hooked.
Mine arrived today at my dealer, gotta wait for the paperworks but I can take it with me for the weekend. Sooooo excited :-D
God its about time you did this bike!!!! haha i bought one about a month ago a matte gray one...so happy with it. power foooor daaaayzzz
great video man!!!! just got the yellow FZ-09. I love it to pieces!! and you are right, you have to ride this bike to understand its torque!!!
Such a fun bike. I rode one at a track day and was doing power wheelies in 3rd gear! Lots of fun and very fast. I want one too.
can't lie that bike sounds really good. we can see your smile through your helmet
Finally you made a video of fz 09. haven't noticed it since today.
Been looking at what my next bike might be and I think this might be the one! Thanks for the solid video man!
i love my FZ09. its a lot of fun. a world of difference between my old bike (1989 softail springer) and the FZ. so much god damn fun.
Yep, first time I rode one of these I was just amazed at the torque it had. That thing will be at 80mph before you even realize it. Amazing bike
I've ridden this bike 3 times, the engine is perfection.
i got a 2015 Yamaha FZ 09 because of this video. Thanks Chase!
I have been considering trading my fz6 for one of these, I'm glad you did a first ride of it and had so much fun! I'm a huge fan of the yellow one lol
Came here for the review/first ride, stayed for you hilarious commentary.
I love the way they feel, don't know much about the wind when ur in the freeway
at first i didn't like these FZ series...but with time I'm beginning to love the hell outta them..and this sounds too fucking epic!!
I have and love this bike, (They have cam chain issues though, makes a lot of noise don't know if it's a legit problem yet.) All I do is romp around in A mode. God bless it's little heart.
Come out with more of these, very good series!!
I try and put one out every other Friday!
Alright sick, I'll keep an eye out then.
I bought a yellow one like this largely based on this killer review. Thanks for all the great vids!
Seat isn't to bad really in my opinion. I have a late 2014, so still have that snatchy throttle that has a very sharp response, and I love it.
Awesome bike. Awesome cinematics on the intro. Thanks again.
just got that bike last week. what a wheelie machine
That thing sounds amazing!!!! Never heard somethig like it! Awesome!
Hey Chase, look up lupus lights. They make the fz-09 tail look NICE.
buying the 2016 all black. (since before I watched this). the Rizoma tail light does a good job of fixing the look of the tail!
Gotta love that Cadmium Yellow FZ !! But then again, I'm bias. Great vid Chase! as always.
