I looked months for the Slash 8 in M/L. The only thing I could get locally in M/L was a new 2021 9.8 GX AXS in dark grey. Good news it was on sale. Bad news is I paid more than I wanted. After a few months and almost 200 miles I'm very pleased with my purchase. I'm with you on not needing the air whiz and other electronic gizmos. I will tell you Jared if you can swing it (when your old components wear out), I highly recommend the AXS shift system. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it functions and snaps into gears.
So glad I snatched up my Slash 7 this summer. Shimano Deore/SLX with an XT derailleur, ready to be upgraded to full XT as things wear out. The weight is respectable at just under 34lbs with pedals. I’m over-biked for 90% of the ride, but it saves this old beat up back on that unexpected gnarly chunky rooted-out nastiness when it’s called for. Great burly alloy bike for under 4k!
You missed the biggest and BEST change they made to the bikes - They dropped the Double trunnion that causes so many issues - finally... & went to Double through bolts like alot of other brands. - Those bottom bearings and shocks will last considerably longer now. Im not a fan of the ZEB select on the 8, would rather the lyrik select +. They also dropped LSC adjustment on the 8 model. They will wring the changes for the 2024 IMO. Meaningfully Geo adjustable and will Start this whole "new-look" they have with the Fuel ex. The remedy is the biggest "what happens" as the fuel EX has basically stolen its spot.
the Slash9.7 is not deleted? The 2023 Version comes with SRAM DB 8 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes or you might be able to order it with the shimano brakes as it was befor. In DE the blueish Version, that we both own, is 300€ more as the Green colored. That is at least what the webpage says
Love the videos, thank you. If you were given the chance at a top spec 23 slash vs a mid-spec Fuel gen 6 for 500 more, which would you choose for your everything bike?
That’s a hard one. I love the previous model of the Slash, but the new Fuel EX is so versatile. If you’re the type of ride that upgrades their bike a lot,,, go with the Fuel EX.
Ordered a 2023 Slash 8 in the penny flake, hopefully shows up this week. Again only one colour option available in australia for slash 8. Looks awesome on the website, however after i ordered it another bike shop showed me the paint sample...haha could be trick photography. Anyway gonna be a mad bike compared to my fuel ex 8 which wasnt suited to my local trails
I’m trying to convince my little guy to wait for the 2024 slash. I’d bet money on it it’s gonna be a similar bike to the new fuel and a slash e makes a lot of sense 👍
Went to the Trek store in my town and saw the hex blue in person. It looks nothing NOTHING like the online photo’s. I was really hoping it would have matched the photos. In person it is flat bluish purple but still blue. Maybe it’ll grow on me. As far as pricing goes, you’ll have to search thoroughly to find a similarly spec’d enduro rig with SRAM GX for $4300. No I’m not a Trek guy as I currently have a 2019 Giant Trance 29’r but want a bike park rig. Peace
@@JaredHoff I might just pick up the frame set as it looks pretty cool, navy blue fading to a teal color. I have so many good parts laying around plus I could install a little bit better fork.
Just want an opinion, I got the trek slash 8 in the purple (matte hex blue), would it look terrible with the full orange fox factory or would it look sick
just curious if the insertion length for dropper post has increased or is it still short? cant insert my dropper to its base unlike Santa Cruz frames that you may insert the dropper all the way down
I got Slash 8, Im Will change for fuel ex 6 gen frame and put all the Slash parts. I already have a zeb 160mm and maybe would change to coil in the back... I think the new specs on fuel ex gen 6 are killer and is the ONE bike for everything. What you think Jared??
The only thing Trek need to improve is the PRICE and COMPONENTS. Customers/Riders now are smart they know what they want. Trek can only attract new riders.
So I am a little biased on this 🤔 I love the Slash, but I’m making a video right now talking about why I’m selling and buying a budget enduro bike. I’d go for whatever is cheaper. Bikes are just getting too expensive in my humble opinion.
Must watch? You are telling me nothing I don't already know about the Slash. Considering a sale price of $3500, I opted for the Marin Alpine7, with a sale price of $2799. To me, every dollar saved is a-lot of money. Problem with most TH-cam reviewers, is any product below $5K, is considered cheap. Trek, is to obsessive(as sneaker brands are), about high price-tag, because of the name on the downtube. For the price of a trek, I'd rather put a nice down-payment on a pickup.
Slash is a great bike! My only advice would be to look at the used market right now. There some great deals on 2021 Slash, which is basically the same bike. You could get a 9.8 for the same price as your 2023 Slash 7
When I bought my Trek slash 8 2022 it was kind of a premium price for the specs. As it has kinda premium quality I was fine paying it but Jesus have they raised the pricing. Great bike but the price tag is just not it
Now with the new geo options of the 2023 Fuel ex the 2023 Slash is kind of oh hum bland. I guess its fuel ex or wait and see what next year may bring for the Slash. Disappointing, no?
It went together easily in less than an hour. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
My prediction for 2024, no more alloy frame option, and AXS drivetrains only. Trek is getting out of entry level ANYTHING. Fuel EX 5 was dropped with the new version. Checkpoint AL 4 was dropped for 2022 from the gravel line making the entry point for their gravel bikes over 2k USD. Roscoe price points went batshit with the 7 being nearly 2k and the 9 being nearly 3k, that's a lot of money for an alloy hardtail. And the new Domane road bike is carbon only, and AXS/Di2 only except for the cheapest build which uses 105 11 speed
Maybe what I meant was,,, for people just getting into enduro riding. 7 is definitely the low end model and the suspension on it makes a huge difference when you start riding really fast and hitting big jumps/drops.
I’ll have to look at that. I think I saw him do a video on the ND filters for GoPro. Definitely not related. I’m always just trying to be myself and hope that comes through in the vids.
