The only problem about this bike that I would change is that I would want a ZEB on it because the 35 mil stancions on the lyric is just not enough for me being a hard rider, but other than that, the slash 8 is amazing!!!
I can understand the notion that 35mm isnt enough. In reality it really is though. Im 185lbs BEFORE my gear and I ride like a bat out of hell. Bike parks, DH shuttle runs with friends, you name it. I do prefer the Fox 36, however, not because its stronger but rather I personally like the feel better than the current RS stuff. My first full suspension bike was a Giant Reign and I put the first Lyric fork on it when RS introduced it. Never once did I even come close to exceeding the abilities of that fork. They are stout for sure. If the Zeb or the Fox 36,38 make you more comfortable then more power to you. Nothing wrong with a little more beef if it gives you piece of mind. @@livefreeandshred9818 how does it feel to ride being 5.6?? Have you gone for a small size or medium build? I’m the same size and debating wether to get this or look at something else. Ta
Trek bikes are very handsome looking. The previous one looked cooler though with the straight downtube. The straight downtubes on the treks make the frames look really cool.
The slash is pretty agile for an enduro bike, it’s not a borderline dh bike like the Specialized enduro, but it is still pretty stable. I seriously think you should go 29, the extra bb height and rollover is great, there really isn’t much of an agility difference - at speed, the 29ers feel much more stable and less hung up.
@@bigbo1764 You really hit it on the head there. I was a die hard 26er fan and when 27.5 became the standard I hated it. Then I got one and I kicked myself for not adopting it earlier. Now with this new Slash Im learning the same thing all over again. I swore Id never touch a 29. Too tall, too flimsy, too unbalanced. Yeah I was wrong as wrong could be. I will never go back to 27.5 now.

Hi, I bought my trek slash 8 a few months ago and I have a few questions. 1. My shock sounds really bad when I first get on the bike like a bad shock but after I ride it around for a couple minutes it sounds fine is this normal for this bike. 2. The braking performance on my slash is really lacking the bleed seems fine but the pads don't want to grip to the rotors any ideas. 3. I was also wondering how many volume spacer you were running. I am running two but it almost feel like to many. Thanks so much.
Any chance you have contaminated rotors or pads? I have these brakes and they are phenomenal mate, clean the rotors and whack new pads in will prob solve the issue if thy don’t need a bleed, I find they also get stronger as they heat up during a ride too
@@LeecMTB Thanks for the advice. I think I am gonna try and just ride off the most likely chain lube on the back rotor since the front one feels amazing if not I will resort to the clean and then pad switcheroo. Thanks
Would you say that some of the features of this bike's suspension design are translated to Trek's shorter travel models, the Fuel EX and Top Fuel? Thank you
I just swapped the shock out on my fuel ex for the thru shaft variant. Definitely feels very plush compared to the DPS it replaced. Very similar bikes, just trading climbing/pedal efficiency or big hit/high speed stability.
Hi Just wanted to let you know this review is the reason I'm looking for a trek slash gen 5 bike as my next bike. I'm not quite sure if I should go for a carbon or aluminium frame but if I find a carbon version in M/L with sram components, that's what I'll buy.. if not it will be the aluminium one in same size :)
thinking about buying one of those, my only concern is that from my bikefit i use 79cms from to BB to the sadle... think the STA is going to be a problem for me?
Super review. I know Slash riders that really like them. Running a medium size with the (fixed) shorter CS is probably the most balanced size of all in terms of FC/RC ratio. If you went XL the CS stays the same although reach increases significantly; Changing rider fire/aft position. I wonder if it would feel as stable at speed as the medium ? Did you manage to try an XL ?
Can u do me a huge favor and compare it to the 9.7? Is the suspension on the9.7 better or just different? Would u prefer all day climbs with the 1.24lb weight reduction or the steeper seat angle of the 8?
what do you mean ? they have the same seat tube angle .....suspension on Slash 8 would feel better because of the lyrik.....Fox 36 Rythm on 9.7 is well....kinda shi*ty
I've owned the 2022 version of Slash 8 for a few weeks now and definitely enjoy the suspension and how it handles obstacles. A few problems I noticed immediately though - shifters are way to far to the right cutting into my thumb with no way of adjusting them without moving the brake handle (which I don't want to move). Brakes are terrible, squeeky, way too spongy, brake disk wobbly brand new. With QR replaced by the through bolt, removing the front wheel for transport is a mission - forks need stretching to slot the wheel in, which is almost impossible with 1 hand, the wholes are not aligned to thread the bolt through. Not to mention that I had to push back pistons already twice by accidentally pressing the brake in transport with wheel taken off. After that each time I need to realign the calliper as the disk rubs the pads. Primitive and annoying. Whoever decides to use these wide straight handle bars has never heard of ergonomy. These are real wrist twisters. So painful to ride after 30mins, blood flow is limited to the palms and I get pins and needles feeling. With price tag of £3700 in 2022 it's massively overpriced. People seem to accept it comparing to other bikes and prices on the martket but you can buy cars for not much more with the amount of technology and features light years ahead of the bicycle.
Sometimes I wonder if you take the fork and hock off the trek and put it on another bike how it would feel. I truly believe the slash is an awesome bike, just curious how shock and fork tunes relate to suspension design with similar geo?
I just swapped from a standards DPS to the thru shaft variant on my fuel ex. Definitely feels like it has less friction and is more supple off the top. Doesn't sag or bob more, just goes from static to kinetic with less of a spike. Can't speak on reliability yet tho.
@302 Onewheel thanks. Yeah def a lifetime warranty. They might be kicking themselves on this bike. But hey I’ll keep getting a new frame until they come up with a fix or offer an up charge to carbon! Haha
Where did it or where do they break? I’ve broken my 2016 slash 8 chain stay twice in 2 years. Curious on what issues they have now and if they break in the same area as well
I haven't been on a bicycle in years but i want to get going again. I'm really interested in exactly this bike. In the older days your body weight played a huge role in what bike ypu select I weigh 95kg (210lbs) and by the looks of it I will need the large frame because of my length. Question: will this bike handle my weight? Will the suspension bottom out or should i look for either a suspension upgrade right from the start or do i need to buy another bike? I really like this bike causr of it's price and the alu frame What do you recommend? Greetings from South Africa

But the alum frame on this new Slash cracks all the time.. 3 out of 4 riders in my vicinity have had to take them back to Trek. Where again did you say the cost savings was being taken from? The frame?Because, if that’s the case, it applies to Trek, too.
The seat tube length isn’t that long though, so it’s not really that concerning, you could probably get a 170 dropper in their with ease, especially since trek specs them standard on their larger sized frames.
@@TheMTBRider96 theres more to the seat angle than meets the eye... frame compactness, weight distribution , wheel spacing for suspension design... theres a reason the slash has always been very stiff.
I recently got the exact same slash, the slash 8 2021, and i noticed when finishing a steep climb on the 52t speed that my chain screw up if i pedal reverse while taking my breath : the chain basically leave the 52t speed to some random other speed by it self I went to a bike shop to fix this issue but they tried with no succes and told me it happens sometimes for 12 speed configuration... Anyone has the same issue?
Go to an other bikeshop and let them change the derailleur hanger (seems like yours got a hit). I always have one in spare… I ride 12 speed for years without having any problems (except a bent hanger)
@@Griffa87 are you dumb or? clearly the rider had it setup on the softer side for sure, thats a lyrik man, add a spacers and no issue... so whats the problem? enduro mtb are seriously hard on bikes and their reviews of those bikes and they loved it too....
@@robweaver5849 Hey mate. In the video I noticed you rode a size M? Do you think that fit you perfectly? Im about the same height and trying to figure out whether to go M or ML. Cheers
@@ashleygifford5026 hello mate. I was really comfy on the medium but I think I could ride the ML too. I think the medium offers a fun, playful feel and I'm sure the ML would too (and be easy to ride very fast) but you might not be able to slam the seat as low as you'd want it as the seat tube is a little taller. I have short legs so the medium is better for me because of the shorter seat tube.

Great in-depth review .
Thanks for the review . . . helped with my purchase decision .
Got my Slash 7 2021 this April, love it after upgrade it from my Slash 7 2016
Awesome ride
@@James-hh1lq yeah man, the feel it really nice

Cracking looking bike, would love one but I’ve not got to 29” wheels yet, still prefer 27.5. How’s the Slash for agility ?
I have one of these it truly is an absolute beast of a machine. Love it. Agree with the tyre opinion though....changed out for Assegai front and rear 🤟🏻
Better than Canyon spectral 8 29? Basically same price, carbon frame similar travel 150-160mm depending on fork. I’m stuck between these for next season (can’t get anything reasonably priced/good value in the last year)
How tall is the tester Robin Weaver?
Excellent review. I think the rockshox suspension makes this slash appealing. Not many are spec'd with it.
Thanks for watching!
Loads of bikes have RockShox, it’s just they use fox at a higher level
@@fazza2104 I'm referring to the slash line
Is it worth to buy one yet or better wait till the new models arrive? I mean some here bought the 2021 back in october 2020
i love my 18 fuel 8 but am kinda wanting a bigger travel bike for the rock/dh stuff that i love riding, tempting
My 2018 Pink Specialized Enduro is still G.O.A.T ed
Just got my '21 Trek Remedy 8 built up 👌 it's more a Remedy 9.8 w/ the spec I've chucked on...
DT Swiss Ex 1501 wheels, X01 12 speed drivetrain, 170mm Fox 36 Elite fork, 780mm Spank handlebar, Truvativ Descendant 40mm stem, Chromag oversized grips, Oneup V2 dropper post, 2.6 Magic Mary Super Trail & 2.6 Specialized Eliminator Gravity tires...
I've had to comment here, b/c there's been no Remedy love from professional reviewers 🤔
I've gone the XL route as the Geo numbers are what I want... NB, 6ft tall rider (don't worry it fits just fine) 👍
Based on one ride to date (just built up thanks), it feels like a 'Party All The Time' steed 🤘
We're gonna have a lot of fun (trouble) together 😁
How’s does the Trek Slash compare to the Yeti SB150.. on the trail... the ride feel..
Thanks
mtb prices have skyrocketed this year, eg the 2020 trek top fuel xt went up $1000 cdn for 2021
Yep, its insane. The 2021 Trek Marlin 7 I bought last year went up another $100 since then.
Hi
Just wanted to let you know this review is the reason I'm looking for a trek slash gen 5 bike as my next bike.
I'm not quite sure if I should go for a carbon or aluminium frame but if I find a carbon version in M/L with sram components, that's what I'll buy.. if not it will be the aluminium one in same size :)
This really looks like a fantastic bike, especially for the money
thinking about buying one of those, my only concern is that from my bikefit i use 79cms from to BB to the sadle... think the STA is going to be a problem for me?
Personally with the ultimate shock I think they should have put a lyrik ultimate on it in my opinion
In the Nice BoXXer Red… 🤤🤤🤤
That alone would likely add 500 to the price tag lol
How does it compare to specialized enduro? I know spesh is way more expensive, but apart from that?
lyrik vs zeb on this new slash bike make a difference on the climbing?
Just ordered one on the cycle to work scheme with a massive £900 saving!
Whats the difference between the slash and the remedy?
geometry, travel, wheelsize, frame storage ...
Was he pedaling in mid-air?
@1:02
What other enduro bikes would you say have better pedalling than the slash ?
how does this bike compare to a Scott Ransom 910 2021 model
Sometimes I wonder if you take the fork and hock off the trek and put it on another bike how it would feel. I truly believe the slash is an awesome bike, just curious how shock and fork tunes relate to suspension design with similar geo?
I just swapped from a standards DPS to the thru shaft variant on my fuel ex. Definitely feels like it has less friction and is more supple off the top. Doesn't sag or bob more, just goes from static to kinetic with less of a spike. Can't speak on reliability yet tho.
Please just know that they crack a lot, two of my mates got one and they don’t ride to hard and they both cracked theirs within a couple months
Mine did also. At the bike shop now waiting on treks reply.
@302 Onewheel thanks. Yeah def a lifetime warranty. They might be kicking themselves on this bike. But hey I’ll keep getting a new frame until they come up with a fix or offer an up charge to carbon! Haha
@@keystonerider1308 i also spoke to a random dude up during a ride and his broke too, on not even a hard ride 🤔
Where did it or where do they break? I’ve broken my 2016 slash 8 chain stay twice in 2 years. Curious on what issues they have now and if they break in the same area as well

Hi ,how you compare to marin alpine trail ?
Where was this filmed?
What Garmin mount is that please?
Trek slash 8 2021 or the YT jeffsey core 2 2021?
they are not even in the same category of bikes .....Slash or Capra that would be more reasonable question
I haven't been on a bicycle in years but i want to get going again. I'm really interested in exactly this bike.
In the older days your body weight played a huge role in what bike ypu select
I weigh 95kg (210lbs) and by the looks of it I will need the large frame because of my length.
Question: will this bike handle my weight? Will the suspension bottom out or should i look for either a suspension upgrade right from the start or do i need to buy another bike?
I really like this bike causr of it's price and the alu frame
What do you recommend?
Greetings from South Africa
Don’t know if you get this but this bike is designed for people up to 300lbs and you can just adjust the shock pressure
Can you guys please do a Rocky Mountain altitude vs trek slash vid because they are both some of the best enduro bikes and I’d love to see them put to test
Thanks for the comment, unfortunately the Altitude hasn't been tested as part of Enduro Bike of The Year but we do have a video review on the Nukeproof Mega 290 Alloy Pro coming out soon 👍
Can you Please make a rewiew of the YT Jeffsy Core 2 27,5?
Bontrager tires has caused me to crash a couple of times when they lost traction☹️ changed them immediately to maxis Assegai..no issues after!
Great review. Question: how does it compare to the Nukeproof Mega?
Hi Tim, that's a great question. Make sure you subscribe and click that bell icon as we're publishing a video on the mega in the coming weeks! Thanks for watching, from all at BikeRadar
Got the p1 but now I see the 8 was the way to go
Could you please test against Fezzari La Sal Comp. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Would it be good at jumps
For £3600 you can get a carbon Vitus sommet with a fox float x2 factory, fox 38 factory and shimano xt
yeah but a vitus mate 🤣🤣
I also reviewed that and it scored really well, but the Trek was just a little more impressive, despite the amazing value build on the Vitus.
But the alum frame on this new Slash cracks all the time.. 3 out of 4 riders in my vicinity have had to take them back to Trek. Where again did you say the cost savings was being taken from? The frame?Because, if that’s the case, it applies to Trek, too.
how much does it actually weigh on scale
Seatpost insertion depth looks concerning.
The seat tube length isn’t that long though, so it’s not really that concerning, you could probably get a 170 dropper in their with ease, especially since trek specs them standard on their larger sized frames.
my 210 oneup nearly slams.... insert dept is an irrelevant complaint, complain to the dropper makers.
I guess the seat tube angle isn't steep enough as that saddle slammed forward.
it isn't indeed
@@TheMTBRider96 theres more to the seat angle than meets the eye... frame compactness, weight distribution , wheel spacing for suspension design... theres a reason the slash has always been very stiff.
For sure Bike of the Year after replacing brakes, cockpit, wheels, tyres and drive train as I did :-D
what wheels and cockpit did you put on?

I recently got the exact same slash, the slash 8 2021, and i noticed when finishing a steep climb on the 52t speed that my chain screw up if i pedal reverse while taking my breath : the chain basically leave the 52t speed to some random other speed by it self
I went to a bike shop to fix this issue but they tried with no succes and told me it happens sometimes for 12 speed configuration...
Anyone has the same issue?
Go to an other bikeshop and let them change the derailleur hanger (seems like yours got a hit). I always have one in spare…
I ride 12 speed for years without having any problems (except a bent hanger)
1.72 what size ?
Looks like a session.. lolol, I just pick up slash 9.8xt 2022. I haven't hit the trails yet , but soon though .
