New bike day is the Best Day EVER!!!
Heck yeah! This bike rips too!
I have a 2020 Trek Slash and must say, after 25years or riding, and countless bikes, its been the best mtb Ive ever had. Surprisingly reliable, competent in all terrain, and havent had any bushings or bearings wear out yet after 1000's of miles.
Seems like if you get a good frame, a major brand bike can really last.
Man the gen 5 Slash is way cooler than the Gen 6. I like the big logos and bright colors for Gen 5. Now I was a Slash+ (E-Bike version)
@@EvansMTBSaga agree 100 %!
New slash is a great bike. Built one up and is definitely the best bike I've ridden. I've moved the lower idler to 22mm away from the stay rather than recommended 32mm just for better chain retention. Switched out to 29" rear too, fast and stable!
Your videos just get better and better.
Thanks Oliver!!
Love to see you check the fork with the hub installed, nice to see someone actually trying what others recommend instead of persisting on how it was done the first time. All the best for the future
that bike, in that color, the engineering design language is perfection.....dream bike. Congrats and enjoy!
My dad just bought a trek slash and he loves it! I’m glad you reviewed this. He has an older generation but it is still just as awesome
I’m actually glad to see Evan giving trek a chance again, my last 2 hardtails have been treks and they have both been super reliable
Trek makes nice bikes. I just find their stuff to be overpriced for what you get.
My family was like yeah you should get a trek since they have local store for repairs and stuff, and then I saw to get top spec it was TWICE as much to get the exact same hardware as a fully kitted WAO Arrival. So I ordered that instead 😆
@@LastAphelionand the we are one is a GORGEOUS bike and more or less artisanal in terms of bike brands. Good call, wish we could get them easily in the uk 🥲
I still ride My '97 850 TREK Double Piston Gas Powered Ass Hammer.
I’ve rode the Druid V1 (the bike that started it all) extensively since 2020. I can say it’s definitely not marketing you can accelerate through roots and rocks like nothing else. Picked up the Dreadnought V2 this spring and that thing rips as well.
Also if your chain ever pops off that lower guide there’s an L bracket MRP can send you to fix that. Happened a couple times on my Dreadnought and that fixed it.
Definitely a dream bike for sure. That chain path is sick! Watching it compress in your video looked so plush and your onboard video looked super steady. Looks like Trek knocked it out of the park. Nice choice
5:36 oke seth 😂
I actually love to see all these different concepts of really every bike part in mountain biking. It would be so boring if every bike had the same concept of geometry, suspension etc. Even if it doesn‘t really improve anything I appreciate the search for innovation and trying to move forward.
Yeah it seems like Trek took a big swing with this design and I dig it so far. Definitely nice to feel something different when riding
Love the new bike!!
Trek fixed that issue with the chain falling off 🏁 sick bike! I love my trek remedy
There were 2 issues - the lower guide being incorrectly shimmed (regular and Transmission drivetrains need different spacings) and a new upper idler pulley with much longer teeth for better retention.
Replacing the upper pulley is a free warranty job and it looks like your bike has the original on it (I'm a Service Lead in a Trek store).
So I can take it in to a Trek dealer and they will replace the upper pulley?
@@EvansMTBSaga Call one and ask.
@@EvansMTBSagathey should be able to add the appropriate spacers to fix the issue
@@EvansMTBSagathey should - we pro actively put warranty claims in for the pulley wheels then called customers when we had them (whether they'd had issues or not). Don't know where you bought yours from but they should really have done this prior to sale.
Get them to check the lower guide is correctly shimmed for your rear mech too - Trek issued a Service Bulletin and moving the shims is a 2 minute job (Transmission drivetrains effectively have a wider chain line so need the guide shimmed out).. From experience it's probably okay because they seemed to all be set up for Transmission and non T Type bikes suffered dropped chains.
Love it! New bike days are the best days, especially when it's one you're unfamiliar with!
Glad to see you testing the new Slash. I have the Gen 5 version and absolutely love it. Can’t see myself upgrading to this anytime soon.
The gen 5 looks so much better with the colors and big trek logo
@@EvansMTBSaga also that gen 6 looks pretty rad too dude. Looking forward to your time on it!
With some creators like you, I just like the video before even watching it. I love your perspective on bikes and how you communicate this. Thanks ;)
Congratulations on the new bike, I wasn't very warm about this bike but I switched over my xl Jeckyll for a lap with a friend who just got a custom built slash with a EXT Storia lok v3 and a EXT fork, ok it's probably worth double my Jeckyll as a spec but it was noticeably better to pedal, felt a bit less plush but very sweet sitting in mid travel, love the geo.
I rode a 9.8 for a day in the French Alps (Morzine) this summer - it was absolutely sensational. Enjoy.
Very cool man! I like that you wrench on your own bikes. Nice bike too!
Evans represents us all; eager to buy expensive gimmicks and willing to screw them up just to see how it works.
😄
Haha and willing to sell it ASAP and move onto the next build!
I've only had one trek and I've loved it can't wait to save up and get a slash
Honestly all they had to do was make the trek logo fit in more, then it would look perfect
Great bike. I just got my self a new slash 8 gen 5 now when it was on sale. Love the bike.
WOW fun video!
That bike looks cool!
Oh ya super buttery fork!
I remember doing a zero hour service on a Rock Shox Judy DH, in 1997. Some things never change.
I reckon the cornering stuff is the high pivot I have a norco range and when I got it I noticed how good at cornering and the grip it has over my old trail bike.
I'm glad you commented about that. I was thinking it could be placebo haha. Someone said it might be the mullet so I'm going to try full 29er
You should do a state of Bentonville post tornado. I didn't know about the tornadoes and went there about a month after them. So much was closed, but the sound of chainsaws was everywhere. Loads of train clearing going on.
Looked at the slash alot early on, the online videos definately swayed my decision but the price was a decent factor. I ended up buying another giant reign, solid choice. Hope it goes well for you mate, amazing looking bike
Just ordered my slash 9! Super stoked.
Heck yeah congrats!n
Fun video. Didn't get to ride this weekend so feeling jealous. Slash looks good 👍
I own a 2023 slash 8 (no high pivot) and the new ones look absolutley awsome imo. The only issues I've had with mine are the rear wheel bearings and all the sram products... I now hate sram. but thats not trek't fault. The frame, suspension spec and stock bontrager parts are all awsome
The chain falling off issue has been fixed by trek, it was caused due to incorrect installation of the lower idler - there needs to be an exact 32mm gap between the idler and the chain stay, as specified on treks tech site.
Now we’re talk’n Evan! Congrats 🎉
Yo love the vids keep up the good work
Wish I had a bike like that mines an old trek y3 from 1997 runs good apart from it always breaks (sadly I broke the derailleur and just found out the wheels buckled 😢) but yea hope u enjoy the new bike
I think this is the only youtube channel I have notifications setup on, love Evans cheerful personality.
Thanks man that's a huge compliment!!
"New Bike Day" is usally the best feeling ever, never in my life have I ever owned a full suspension bike, also I entered the giveaway, and this is one of the better channels than Seth.
Congrats to the guy that one the polygon raffle have fun sending it
Yeah he hasn't responded to my emails yet! And didn't sign up with a name so idk what to do
@@EvansMTBSaga set up another raffle? 😅
I was just eyeing that bike right before watching this video 😂
It's a fun bike man. Im impressed
It does look SICK!
Agreed, but gonna be way more sick next episode
Congrats bro) Let it roll fast and easy) Dont push hard - wish quick recovery to your finger! Also Zeb ''problem'' solved itself ))) It was not a problem ; -)
Oh yeah the red Zeb it was definitely a problem! It's still too stiff, but now I can take my time with the settings. I rode it today and I'm like man are my wheels too heavy? 😭
So cool the slash is so awesome keep up the good content
Nice, the new Slash looks even better in the new carbon red smoke color. Though a mullet enduro bike definitely does seem a tad overkill for Bentonville hehe.
This Slash of mine has much bigger plans than just Bentonville 😄
I just wanted to say keep up the great work man! Love your Vids! One thing I was wondering if you could ride Kingdom trails in Vermont?
I don't really have any plans to travel that far. I have 4 kids that are a ton of work and I feel bad leaving my wife with all them 😂
Ok! Keep up the great work
Brother, I love your content.
Thanks man!!
The high pivot design looks crazyy on this, def an Enduro taking cues from a dh bike. Does the "let's stare at it" come from Seth?
Yeah definitely! I wish he would get back to builds in his shop!
Stare at it is 100 percent a shoutout to seth
For sure! I even text him today after he put out a cool video
Have a 2022 trek slash. Love the thing and knowing that i think you’ll love this thing
I like the look of the Gen 5 more with the big ol trek logo. I almost bought the 9.9 gen 6 cuz it still has the big logo, but it was like $4000 more haha
@@EvansMTBSaga either way. you’ll love it. keep up with the great content
I’ve got a Trek Slash and riding it for about 2 years now. My only complaint and the biggest complaint I see from most about them is the wheels are made of cheese. I swapped mine out for hope wheels and can’t fault the bike it’s a great thing to ride.
Were your stock Bontrager wheels carbon or alloy?
@@EvansMTBSagamine where carbon, but I don’t think it matters as they all use the same hub and spokes which seems to be the weak point. Someone told me that the wheels are made by machine so quality of build can be hit and miss. Not sure how true that is.
Man, I can't imagine what you plan to upgrade on that, it seems like it has the top of line for almost every component. i was going to say maybe groupset but it's got a SRAM GX AXS groupset unless you plan on upgrading to the XX AXS groupset?
I have this EXACT same bike...... you will not be disapointed I promise.. Chain drop is NOT an issue if set up correctly. Also. I set mine up full 29er ( new rear wheel and shock mounts ) I like how it rides compared to the mullet .. but both are fun
Yeah dude! My initial thoughts are that it's a super well thought out bike. They decided that the benefits of the high pivot outweigh the complex chain design. I'll try a 29er cuz your comment! Might not make a video about it though
@@EvansMTBSaga and dude berms are unreal on that bike it like shoots you out the backside
@@themiddleagemasher8108 no way you felt it too?!?! thats the first thing I felt and I've never experienced that on a mountain bike before. between you and me, I think I'm eyeing the Slash+ real bad haha
@@EvansMTBSaga my buddies that wrote it as well noticed it one of the first things it eject you out of berms like nothing I’ve ever pedaled. Sling shot!!!
Does a 12 foot drop, "yeah I gotta take it easy with this thumb".
It's a smooth drop 😂
Nice dude! I love my 23’ Slash!
Just went to Bentonville came back with a Santa Cruz Hightower Seth!!
High pivots are sick I have a forbidden druid, just gotta keep them clean
Yeah this one is pretty quiet but I was thinking that would change if it was dirty haha
Yea just watch out for creek crossing a little grit in that drivetrain and man does it make some noise
Gut a question for the pro's: I'm choosing between two versions of a trail bike, the Cube One44 C:62 Pro and the Race, which is the more expensive version. They're the same geometry and travel and all that, but the components differ, mainly the suspension: Pro comes with a RockShox Pike RC, while the Race comes with a Fox 34 Float Factory FIT4. Would you say there is a big difference between these two setups? Suspension performance, maintenance, reliability, that sort of thing? Cheers
Sick bike you should add cool matching sticker and hubs to go with the grips
Oh yeah I got matching sticker kits for several different parts. Next video!
Love the vids, I will be closely following this amazing channel for the foreseeable future at a flat tire while I was riding my trail full sus in my local skatepark made the rear tire fold and sent me off. Acl reattachment surgery same week 😅 and a chunk off knee bone pulled off with it. 6 months off the bike with repair costs :(
No way dude! Sorry to hear that. Super gnarly injury 🤕
4 foot skatepark gap as well 😅
Keep up the good content, I will definitely be following along
These chain guide systems sre really good they remove allmost all chainslap!
That 38lbs for a full carbon frame and wheels is exactly why the slash + is the only slash I'd consider buying. That's what my alloy enduro weighs, kind of a waste of the carbon material to not shave some grams. I'd hate to see what the alloy slash weighs.
I said 38 but on the screen I put the actual weight with pedals - 36.8lbs. So a bit better 😂
New bike day for me was fakn night mare I ordered 2024 Slash 9.9 @ $12500 . Hey pal the drop is the height not the distance
that bike looks sick with that drivetrain
Yeah its definitely super interesting
New video day is pretty good too
Happy NBD! 🥳 Great looking bike, can't wait to see what you do with it. I"m curious if what you're feeling in the turns is related to the mullet setup 🤔
Oh yeah good point. Maybe I'll throw on a 29" rear to test that
This bike definitely needs more pulleys. :D
Love the new bike enjoy🎉
Could you make some service tutorials?
Making a service tutorial video series is definitely something I want to do
last time I was this early I was competing in the 'being late competition'
Knew my boy would get it his bike
Also - the debacle with the chain falling of was an easy fix with a spacer on the idler - I believe. But yeah..that should not have been happening on a super expensive bike like that.
Bushing have to be lubricated with sram suspension grease or other similar grease oil don't really reaches all the way to the top when the suspension is working
YESSSS HE GOT THE SLASH
It's a fun bike!!
I’d like to hear your suspension set up numbers and your weight. I love my Gen6 and just went back to mullet from set up as full 29. I have my reasons on rear axle height and how this suspension works
I weigh 176lbs and I have the fork at 52psi and shock 184psi. Still playing with it though
@@EvansMTBSaga nice. I’m 5’11 on a size large
Stay mullet’ed its better
Hey man I love your vids keep up the work 😁
The Vivid ultimate is epic
I hope I can one day own a bike from a reputable brand such as TREK
new bike day!!!!!! lets strip it down and rebuild it
Sic bike! but holy moly almost 37 lbs? Thats crazy. Must be the Bontrager wheels.
This is the tale of the emperor with no clothes. Nobody seems to realize that bikes doesn't need to be that heavy. It's the SUVization of mtb's
Haha this bike is definitely the full sized SUV version of MTB!
Interested in how you were able to purchase a Trek not built up. Seeing as Trek are super strict about their bikes being assembled and picked up in store from an authorised Trek dealer.
Yeah, I work for someone who's an authorised Trek dealer, lol.
They sell direct to consumer now on their website. Not sure when this started
Trek did send a update to fix chain drop issue 3mm spacers they have a video
I still need to check that. I guess the fix was wider spacers
Once again I say: what a breath of fresh air in this youtube bike channels world! 🫵🏻👏😀
Now I’m wondering if my new bike is the wrong one because it doesn’t have 20 miles of chain going around right angles 😢
Haha I wonder if I'd have to buy 2 chains to have enough links
So everybody's making Brooklyn machine works racelink now?
Your awesome man
Keep up the good work?
Damn nice bike!!! the slash is definitely on the short list with the devinci spartan HP and the propain spindrift. Keep the vids coming, glad to see you back from injury🤟
Just needed your alter ego saying "How much did you spend?" 😅
The slach is my next bike
My last 2 sets of Rockshox forks came with practically no oil in them..and one set had no Crush Washers on the Lowers either...What the Hell are they playing at at SRAM...!!
I thought you were going to show a 95% Titanium build🤘🤘😁. "YEAH❗️".
But Trek told me on Tw🐦tter that they don't make Titanium frames because "Titanium is a niche market" 😱😭
I do have some Ti bars for it 😁
@@EvansMTBSaga N❗️CE🤘🤘
Which brand, or do you want me to watch the video😄. Hopefully they're 3/2.5 Thomson riser bars🤘🤘. Up here in 🍁, Amazon wants 💰750.00 for them😱😭
Can you please review the Propain Tyee Al? Thanks!
Saw your ride on Strava
Dope video dude! Come to mn and ride with us!
I am biased against Trek but I’ll hear you out.
I was too after the Roscoe but I set that aside. It would make sense for a fancy bike of theirs to ride well though
U just bought my dream bike
Check back next video, I have big plans for this!
he said "lets stare at it" he is becoming seth
I currently own a marlin 5 i bought myself (13yrs) im now saving for the slash 7, which is gonna take a while.
No way I’m 13 and have a marlin 5

About that thumbnail... A bike can be both fun and flawed, for me they seem to go hand in hand, my Lapierre Froggy is very fast and capable when compared to the Demo 8 i ususally ride, but it feels boring to ride. Ever since my demo went down to wait for maintenance i've kinda lost the drive to ride. If it's not ideal but keeps you going, go with the stupid route because sometimes stupid things do make sense, especially when it's suposed to be about fun.
Ah I like that. Like the flaw is the fun haha. My favorite E-Bike isn't perfect, but definitely the most fun if I play to its strengths
@@EvansMTBSaga well, no, that's not exactly what i meant, in fact i hate chugging uphill, but i'll deal with it to have fun everywhere else on the platform i like because it's worth it
go choice with trek that the only i would brought but prefer rocky mountain
You better review the amflow emtb from DJI, spoiler alert, it is powerful!
I had one! In late 2023, I had a prototype Amflow and DJI motor. It was sooooo powerful with great power modulation. I was supposed to get a full release and DJI is having issues with the US government so it's delayed I guess. Funny thing is the prototype had headset cable routing and I begged the engineers to get rid of that and they did 🤣
How much did you pay for the bike
Could you please try a ghost riot en? I think you would like it really well. It's a really fun bike.
I wish I could, but I don't have access to all brands whether that be their contact info or the funds to buy it outright
What chestmount are you using? Looks stable.
Uswe bag with a chest mount attachment they make. Its super awesome and very stable
