Thats a good one. I haven't had too many zs with bad valve seals, i would suspect on a cold start the car will smoke right away from oil dripping into the cylinder through the leaky valve seal. If they are really bad they will leak under vacuum during decel. If you are burning oil and smoking out of the exhaust I would always start with a compression test to make sure one of the cylinders isnt hurt. It's also a good thing to check inside the cylinder with a flashlight through the spark plug hole to check for any wet appearence or oil.
Hello! I’m gonna do my valve seals after looking carefully through my exhaust ports with the exhaust manifold off and noticed oil dripping around. May I ask what did you use for your compressor to build up pressure inside the cylinder ?
OverBoost I’m currently doing the valve stem seals but whenever it comes to my exhaust side valves they leak air through the exhaust manifold ports. Every time I try and use the Jim wolf tool to compress the exhaust valve, it cause air to leak through the exhaust manifold port. Did you guys experience this ? I’m using about 65 psi ?
further to note, the exhaust valve does not leak air when its closed, only leaks air when i tried and compress the spring, thus opening the valve and allowing the compressed air to escape through the exhaust manifold ports. it this normal? sorry guys just a newbie trying to learn and get my Z running
@@ReadyTakeFlight I did experience this on a few cylinders. What i did was tap the top of the valve to cause it to shut properly. What was happening was the spring and the valve were sticking so when I would compress the spring the valve would want to open aswell. So by tapping the valve they would separate and the valve would shut again.
@@overboost8727 thank you dude! I appreciate you even responding! Is there anyway I may be able to donate to help the channel? I greatly appreciate the z knowledge you guys put out!
I wish this engine wasn’t so complex theres always something happening with these engines and even after working on them something else pops up sooner or later. Nissan woulda have sold millions of these had they sold a version with a simple reliable engine for those that dont care about racing and just want the car for its looks
Stopper bolt on belt tensioner. Im sure you did it, but no mention in video. Kinda important for re-installation.
You make everything look so easy!!!!
Thank you. These engines can look intimidating at first. Blow a few up and tear them apart enough times, and you can rebuild one with one eye open 😅
thanks for the video dude!
What’s the tool you used and where can I get it? Thanks! Great video too I’m fixing to do the same thing but I’m not pulling the engine
Really nice content keep it up👍🔥
Do you have to put it at top dead center just to do the timing service?
Legend✌️ thanks man
how much doe this job cost out the door
What psi do you use for feeding the cylinder?
60-100 works
I had to use 100 psi in the video because the valves were sticking and I needed more air pressure to compensate
Can you send a link please can’t find it on z1
Hey bro.. what are the symptoms of bad valve seals? I know there is going to be smoke but how do you knlw for sure its valve stems for sure?

Usually 60 psi is sufficient

why are you allergic to take the head off with the engine out?
Nvm lol didn’t pay attention to the video
