    The gearboxes are actually really strong, its because people don't use the recommended fluid and replace it enough, the clutches last just as long as a manual cars do. In regards to the modifications impacting them, you actually should tune the gearbox as well as the motor to work together.

      people who claim the ralliart sst is weak are probably those clueless shitheads who flashed evo x's s-sport mode onto it without realising the 2 sst's have different gear ratio on the 5th and 6th. i've been dailying a 320bhp ralliart for 30,000km without having a single issue with the sst.

      Gotta disagree man. I've babied the hell outta mine. Pretty much stock save for a BOV and cat back exhaust. Every service done on time or early and it didn't prevent a shift fork 4 malfunction from happening. $3600 later for a tranny overhaul/upgrade and she's ok now, but not the sort of thing one would expect after dropping good money for this car. Plus it can be a real nightmare finding a shop that will work on these transmissions without screwing it up.

      @@Ballacha S-Sport is actually a necessity to making the clutchs last if you're running a decent amount of torque, as pressure and thus clamping force is increased.
      The 5th and 6th gear ratios arent different enough to cause any issues - except when you're trying to lug around town at 1500-2000rpm in 5th and 6th and it causes the TCM to try to slip the clutches to maintain speed. Otherwords, don't try to use s-sport for lugging around town.
      At higher RPM and heavier load, the clutch is engaged and theres nothing to wear excessively - its no different than running X clutch in Y manual with varying ratios.

    Looking at a 2010 posted on the Maine Craigslist at this time. And they sure are a sexy car... BUT... my experience with Mitsubishi has not been good and I do not recommend the more tweeky ones as a primary vehicle. The one that is posted only has 68K miles but has a slipping transmission. They are only asking 1500 for it. Don't know any details on it, but it is Craigslist so Buyer Beware. Owned a 1990 Eclipse GSX Turbo AWD. Maui Blue and Black. What a awesome car it was and then... the transfer case locked up at a toll booth. Engine just froze up rolling to a stop. Engine would not turn over. Manual trans, clutch pedal pushed in and still nothing??? Went out to push it through the toll booth and nothing happened from behind. When I pushed it from the front something popped loose??? Was able to start it and limp it into then next town. They pulled the drain plug for the xfer case and the oil was silver??? I replaced this with a used one from a Talon. The input splines were different??? So I took them both apart and used the input shaft from the original xfer case. About a year or so later it lost compression in one of the cylinders. Figured it was burnt exhaust valves by using a compressed air blow by test. Parked it after that with the intent to eventually tear down and rebuild but got divorced and left it for the ex. She really loved it too. A decade or so later she gave up the dream and asked if I wanted it back after it sat outside all that time. Ummm no. Sold it off to some kid with a dream. The 3000 GTs were awesome too. Knew a Tech Rep that bought a new VR4 Turbo. They had alignment issues and other issues. Have seen so many sitting parked in peoples yards and everytime I get asked what I think about them, I tell them my honest opinion. Remember the Galants VR-4s with their all wheel steering? Thought about buying one back in the day but talked myself out of it. I love how Mitsubishi has pushed the envelope on these cars, but reliability and durability issues has always haunted them. Basic Mitsubishis seem to hold up well though.

    Hoping that maybe this new Nissan ownership stake will force them to spruce up the lineup. That is considering they'll be expecting a degree of ROI. I've heard talk of some platform sharing too, not sure if this is a good thing considering how boring the Sentra/Altima has become.

      I'm starting to hate Nissan ever seen the CEO wants a position in Mitsubishi. They were forced to join the Nissan Renault alliance and the only one getting the profit from now on is Nissan. Nissan has to help not mess up this beautiful car company I have loved since 1997 and it al started with the eclipse and moved on to all the lancer. I just hope just hope that they make a super car just hopefully.

    ralliarts are definitely cheaper and easier to own at this point.. in another year and a half i will be buying either a ralliart or evo x mr (if price is right).. i will be buying from carmax due to warranty for the transmission.. only mods i plan on are cobb stage 2 and cat back with either.. has the ralliart been good to you?

    • @socalsupercars420
      @socalsupercars420  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's been good to me thus far! I'm at 50,000+ miles right now and haven't ran into any major issues. I'd say as long as you follow the maintenance schedule you won't have any problems.

      SoCalSupercars cool, cause i dont track and live in a city in east coast.. Cincinnati ohio, so a evo x just doesnt seem justified, so my first choice will be a ralliart

    • @aaronjackson9867
      @aaronjackson9867 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Ralliart owner here myself. Just wanted to point out, that while you can go ahead with a cobb, there is next to no way for it adjust anything regarding the transmission without a cobb protune. An alternative would be to go open source with a tactrix cable and tune that way (there is even a free basemap available that bumps output about 30% over stock). Overall, as mentioned, stick to the service schedule. try ONLY use oem sst fluid (not entirely cheap when that comes around), and as long as you stay around or under the 300whp and 350wtq mark you should be fine. (Been driving mine nearly 4 years now)

    • @Barricade2008
      @Barricade2008 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Jackson hey thanks man, i have heard about tactrix, my inly concern is if i buy from carmax for the power train warranty coverage, i would like to have a peace of mind of going back to factory, unless the tranny is strong enough to not worry about that... and im not looking for big numbers.. anywhere close to 300bhp is fine with me

    • @aaronjackson9867
      @aaronjackson9867 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually with tactrix, as long as you have some kind of laptop (even a netbook) you can also go back to stock at any time (still a bit less than a brand new cobb) I've actually had to do it to have some warranty work done myself :P Personally I'm running the free basemap which puts me around 240whp and I couldn't be happier. Been running it for around 3+ years

    • @iCutWaffles
      @iCutWaffles 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How? It's slower in 0-60 it has less trunk space, no manual transmissions, looks like a lancer with a hood scoop( wrx has a different hood, skirt, lip and spoiler) its heavier, worst AWD. It's also more expensive

      @@iCutWaffles As was said, this is a year old comment - but since you DID comment, its worth noting...The Ralliart has a LSD in the front and rear, where as WRX's (not STis) are open diff. The Ralliart also has a form of AYC, whereas only the STi has this. Conclusion? The Ralliart, much like the Evo X to STi, has superior AWD (AWC in Mitsubishi world)
      Next up, the 2010 Impreza sedan has 11.3 cubic feet of cargo area, where as the Lancer has 12.3.
      Then, the Dual Clutch trans by far is superior to any Automatic ever offered in any Subaru ever - in fact, current year WRXs are coming with CVTs....really? The SST trans is designed for track use - and in that sense rivals a manual. Would be nice to have had a manual option, sure - but I bet thats why you think your WRX is better than a GTR too, eh?
      Then lets consider the fact that the 4B11T doesn't throw rods, break pistons or blow head gaskets in stock form - let alone modified, where they've gone 9s unopened. Can't say that about ANY EJ.
      But you're right, the WRX is marginally quicker stock for stock - however the Ralliart, much like the EVO, responds MUCH better to modifications ;)

      Derek Stubbs it is. And very sensitive to the fluid used in it. To do a transmission service with oem parts is over $400.
      According to the experts if you dont use the mitsu fluid it is guaranteed to fail. This service is required every 30k for the trans to live. Add that to the cost of the other fluids in the drive line and its insane to own one.
      He should have made that the main bitch point.

    Mitsubishi can't afford it. Lancer evo is a well respected and a rally breed but Mitsubishi simply doesn't have the money to prove it. They ended production and evo production cause they weren't getting enough money to invest and they are a small car company who were able to race with Nissan GT-R and actually be really close. The problem, the owners and stupid frauds. I'm not sure if you have heard but the Nissans FUCKING stupid asshole ceo will have a position in Mitsubishi and might as well rebadge their new suv. Mitsubishi is focused on suvs and not sport but don't get me wrong they will make a fast car but that's gonna take to long and ppl will start forgetting what Mitsubishi was know for and that is making a fantastic sports car for a low price

    The transmission responds fine to modifications as long as you get a tune properly maintain it. If you’re going to try and push 400hp in a car that stock runs 237hp then naturally you will need a rebuilt transmission and supporting modifications to accommodate for such power? Same goes with literally ANY car what a stupid reason to ‘hate’ your car 🤡
