It's the funniest car because of that. If you have a sport exhaust on it, props to Mitsubishi because my OEM Lancer Ralliart exhaust was the nicest sounding of all stock exhausts I've heard. In Sport Mode, it is so much fun, raising the rev limiter. Still, I would point out that the Ralliart is far more reliable than the Evo. There is less pressure on the engine thanks to the single-scroll turbo and the lower torque. It all wears less on the Getrag transmission and the engine block.

I bought a 2011 Lancer Ralliart Sportback new from my local dealer and now, 12 years and 110k miles later, it's still going strong. Luckily for me, no transmission issues so far. The main issues have been that one of the front daytime running lights burns out a couple of days after the bulb is replaced--not worth the cost to track down that problem so I just live with it. That may or may not be related to the other issue I have which is that the audio system volume control on the steering wheel sometimes engages my phone. Again, it's not worth the cost of the repair to fix so I just use the volume control mounted on the actual factory audio system (I have the factory Rockford/Fosgate audio system). The leather seats help make the interior seem more upscale, and I love that the factory navigation system allows the audio system to store mp3 rips of CDs you put in the system, so that after a while, you have a music server built into your dash. I have some 200+ albums always available in the car without having to stream from my phone. I probably have one of the few completely stock Ralliarts still on the road. It's a fun, mostly trouble-free car. By far the best car I've ever owned.
Love my ralliart! I've had it for 4 years now and put on 40k miles. This is the most accurate review of the ralliart. I've decided to modify and maintain my ralliart myself and it has done me well. If taken care of and properly modified they are great and fun cars.

I don't think its possible for the fuel consuption to be that bad. I've tracked my Evo IX over the years and my absolute average is 12L/100, and then consider the 4B11T is a far more efficient motor than the 4G63T, that claim just doesn't pass the sniff test.

Such a great review and shed some light on my own experiences with the transmission and heat/slipping issues when driven in the CBD. The comments about dealerships suggesting replacing the entire transmission are why I sold my Evo 10 back in 2011 as the bill was going to be a ridiculous amount and back then there weren’t many workshops willing to touch it.
I’m in Melbourne. Had a 2009 Lancer ES for 200k kms. Then a 2010 Evo X MR dual clutch until 185k kms. Now I’m with my second Evo X MR, this one 2014 100k kms. Only ‘issue’: timing chain replacement on my first EVO. They are very reliable if you don’t do stupid mods and service them properly.
I own an Evo X, and was able to buy a whole Ralliart that had a bad SST trans for only $2500 US. I needed the engine, and a 4B11T without the car cost more than I paid for the full car.
Been there, done that. Fast car but 98 fuel at 13 litres per 100kms, and insurance wow. $800 just for the transmission oil and that ticking Timebomb of a transition. And those speeding tickets. No thanks. But a fun fast car
Hi from Adelaide South Australia.😃I have a "Chris Hemsworth" as my weekend car... When comparing to Luke, have to say Liam is more fun to drive🤣However, the Recaro Seats in Chris definietly makes a difference (from the passenger's point of view). Overall, if you do not have such a big buget for getting an Evo X, Ralliart may be a car to consider (just a personal opinion) 😁
I'm not sure about using only Mitsubishi oil. The Getrag DC470 and Getrag DC430 are used by Mitsubishi, and the smaller one is used by Volvo and Ford. The Ford and Volvo oil also work, and many say that Castrol Transmax Dual Clutch works as well. This is because Mitsubishi sells the DiaQueen oil under the name Castrol BOT 341 in Europe and Western Asia, including Saudi Arabia, considering that it is the Transmax, it's highly unlikely that Castrol makes a special mixture of a few thousand liters in each region just for one OEM. For example, in the US, because of some ingredients in the Mitsubishi SAE 90, it was temporarily banned, and Mitsubishi announced that dealers would have to use Eneos 80W90.
I bought a base manual black coloured ES Lancer new in 2008. Two things continually peed me off about that car. 1. The paint so easily chipped and the rear dog legs past the rear doors were particularly susceptible to chips and sand blasting effect from debris thrown back from the front wheels, and to a lesser extent the rear doors themselves. Problem was exacerbated by Mitsubishi using a white undercoat under the black top coat which makes every stone chip stick out like dog's balls. 2. There was literally no where you could comfortably rest your right arm while still being able to hold the steering wheel. The arm rest on the door card seems to be there for decoration rather than functionality and is poorly placed. Long road trips were very tiring because of this.
This could have been an awesome collab with Motoring Box and Shaun's Ralliart he just restored. Edit: My mistake, it was a Ralliart Magna Shaun restored. Which would also be a good video in itself :)
Thanks! I had written these off as front wheel drive, I did hear the brakes were a little small.... I had no idea they were AWD and had a flappy paddle. Half way through, expecting bad news about the gearbox though LOL!
I'm looking at several cars.. Higher end is A45 AMG or Volvo S60 Polestar. Mid range is Volvo V40 crosscountry T5 or Lancer Ralliart & on the low side is Ford Mondeo XR5
XR5 is an engine that ford and Volvo shared. It’s a good one. For the Merc, unless you are doing all the work yourself it will send you broke faster than you can get rid of it. The Ralli Art will appreciate in value and all the parts will be available for ever. Also, a front LSD, upgraded turbo and a bigger front mount intercooler. Just keep the original parts for the next owner. The polestar stuff was a software upgrade of the engine tune (that you have to pay for) plus some suspension tuning. If you want polestar it’s because you want polestar
@@theairstig9164 Yeah I like the Volvo T5 engine. The S60/V60 Polstar also has a bigger turbo & brakes compared to the R Design. I want a V60 Polstar but only 200 were brought into Australia.
I think that this Ralliart that you are reviewing actually has a whole EVO bodykit, with the fenders and wing being most noticable, the normal Ralliart cars definately look a little more tame than the EVO at least from factory.
@@vsonn5478 Actually the front bar looks every much like an Evo bar. I don't know if they updated it for later years, but initially (from memory and what I can find on google) the front bar wasn't black to the edge, and had a silver trim lining around the edge. The side vents are 100% not standard, the hood vents are though. The 4B11 wouldn't survive without them. Those headlights sure aren't stock either. It really is a sore spot in the Evo community, when people dress up regular Lancers to look like Evos, with the CY4A platform it became even easier to play barbie. Its not so bad on Ralliarts because they have the performance to back it up and they're largely highly respected, its all the rest of the riff raff. The vortex generator is also not stock but at least its actually doing something for the wing hes put on it.
@@EnvyCT9AI have a Ralliart and I just wrapped the chrome trim black, seems like this Ralliart also painted part of the front lip black to imitate the Evo. The Evo front bar has 2 slits in it for more air into the intercooler and thus a side-mounted plate, this one does not have either. The side-vents on this Ralliart are almost definitely stickers because the Ralliarts fenders are not as wide as the Evos and would need a fender and bumper swap. Seeing these Lancers once in a while, they all look very similar. But once you get used to them, you can tell them apart very quick
I own a Mitsubishi lancer 2012, everything works normally while in motion, but the moment I stop at a 🚦 ⛔ traffic light it vibrates and the RPM drops, showing a sign of low power, I will have to change the transmission to (N) neutral to make it balance.
Hear they are good cars if you change the oil every 5,000Klm, oh and don't forget the engine oil every 10,000Klm. Pitty is the 5,000klm oil change is a bit pricey.
@@arcanevoid9199 Was taking the Mickey. Referring to the dual clutch gearbox oil. Like as in, Subaru, change your spark plugs every second head gasket.
Mates one has a turbo issue where the turbo stays closed stopping all boost at some times. You can't fix it and you have to upgrade to either an Evo turbo or something more.
I had a MR and my sister bought one as well a few months later, I sold mine at 5000 ks . She has hers to date. Recently she a service on the dual clutch auto, it was slipping not engaging in reverse and drive was slacking and not changing in time. Mind you, she always left it too late for regular service and it stood at 80,000ks. Service on the transmission was book and oil was ordered with total cost of $2,100. $890 for some oil not olive oil $370 for filter and $810 for labour. That's very hefty. It does not drive like the original still problems with it,but Mitsubishi thinks it is like brand new,and can't solve the problem. It does not drive like before harsh and rough gear changing. End of the day, its worth shit for all that money.
I hate to tell you this but your sister was scammed. The trans oil is expensive but is way cheaper than that. I get mine from Opie Oils. There is a Volvo filter that is the exact same for less than $50 USD. Labor wise, it's super easy, coming from a guy that hates working on cars. They're are TH-cam vids on it, it takes about an hour. Usually 6L trans fluid will do. Total cost, roughly $350 USD for oil, filter and an hour labor. I'm really sorry she got scammed you should leave a bad review at the shop.
Why are you taking it to the Mitsubishi!? Those idiots are scammers. At least take it to a performance shop. If you’re in Texas tell her to take it to Kozmic performance
Owned one, when gearbox was in auto it would change into 6th doing 50kmh, I assume to save fuel. It also beeped inside when car is in reverse. Horrible
Please please don’t buy anything that has been modified unless it has been done properly & you have proper paperwork. There has to be something seriously wrong for that kind of fuel consumption! A properly sorted example should return easily 9/10l per 100kms in a heartbeat
how do you do the update for the ralliart with the ecu flash? might need a link or something because mine is jumpy in first gear and i might need an update
What luck! I'm hoping to buy my friend's RA this weekend buuuut the tranny has a little leak after the clutch packs were replaced a few years ago and the car was sitting for a while through covid... Any recommendations? There's only one dealer in the city and they're very hard to get in touch with :/
Given the Volvo EX30 and MG4 dual motor variants will out-everything the mitsu GTO, Evo X and the WRX STI for less money and cost less for everything except tyres, it’s time to move on. Even the Cupra Born will give a Golf R a good scare these days with no chance of being picked out of a line by the cops from a loud and increasing pitch exhaust as the waste gate is pinned open by the drivers enthusiastic right foot
Yeah these never did it for me. Being based on the VR-X but with the Evo's running gear was kind of the sticking point - the contemporary WRX was the better car for spirited driving in pretty much every aspect, especially when it got the power bump in '09.
@@andy2906 the EJ25 is pretty much the same as the 4B11T, in that it's only as reliable as the bloke who tunes it. Stock standard you're not going to have many problems at all. The manuals in later WRX weren't chocolate like GCs were either, and it's a whole lot less temperamental than the SST in the Ralliart. Still, you don't want to be doing clutch dump full racing starts on a regular basis.
A friend of mine purchased a Ralliart he found with a dead engine and built it at around 400hp. Forged pistons and rods, Evo Turbo, camshafts, Evo wheels, Evo brakes. Should I buy it at around 15k USD? It will be a weekend car.

The lancer evolution is a gemstone of a car ❤
I’m in Melbourne. Had a 2009 Lancer ES for 200k kms. Then a 2010 Evo X MR dual clutch until 185k kms. Now I’m with my second Evo X MR, this one 2014 100k kms. Only ‘issue’: timing chain replacement on my first EVO. They are very reliable if you don’t do stupid mods and service them properly.
I own an Evo X, and was able to buy a whole Ralliart that had a bad SST trans for only $2500 US. I needed the engine, and a 4B11T without the car cost more than I paid for the full car.
What are u gonna do with the parts car 😮
My favorite budget sports car.
Which would also be a good video in itself :)
those Magna Ralliarts are hidden gems.
Just picked up some wipers. Cheers for the discount ReDriven. You bloody legends!! Great vid too gents. Nice one.
Enjoy!
I love these Lancers great overall reliably, they even look cool in entry level form.
My standard Lancer Wagon is nice but I'm definitely saving a up for a Ralliart.
Manual swapping one of these sound like a good idea
Only sad these don’t come in a 6spd. Although flappy paddle action is intriguing. 🤔 great review AK and Jim keep the content comin’ 🤙🏻
Mine is a 6 speed. Maybe you're thinking of the non-turbo lancer?
Thanks! I had written these off as front wheel drive, I did hear the brakes were a little small.... I had no idea they were AWD and had a flappy paddle. Half way through, expecting bad news about the gearbox though LOL!
What's better than a new Re Driven video?
Winning 2 million dollars on lottery.
Couldn’t agree more
@@ReDriven It is better, but only just.
I was looking into buying one of these soon so this came out at the perfect time
I can't get over those Audi esque headlights
I think that this Ralliart that you are reviewing actually has a whole EVO bodykit, with the fenders and wing being most noticable, the normal Ralliart cars definately look a little more tame than the EVO at least from factory.
Pretty sure the vents are stickons and the front bumper is still a ralliart, the wing is an evo wing tho
FINALLY I BEEN WAITING 2 YEARS
My uncle has a lancer Ralliart. I like the evo better but the Ralliart still cool my uncle drove me around in it before
Hear they are good cars if you change the oil every 5,000Klm, oh and don't forget the engine oil every 10,000Klm. Pitty is the 5,000klm oil change is a bit pricey.
5000km oil changes is pretty typical for japanese performance cars
@@arcanevoid9199 Was taking the Mickey. Referring to the dual clutch gearbox oil.
Like as in, Subaru, change your spark plugs every second head gasket.
Mates one has a turbo issue where the turbo stays closed stopping all boost at some times. You can't fix it and you have to upgrade to either an Evo turbo or something more.
The Tyler the creator cameo is just beautiful
wait in the uk they don't come factory with recaro?
in mine I have some recaro
Wanted to buy one when they came out, but they didn't come with a real transmission so yeah nah...
I had a 2010 liberty gt. It was cool, but geez it was lots to run and maintain. Sounds like this would be similar...love it...but scared.
UK here, owned 3 Gallants in the 1980's, 2 Maxima 3 Litre in the 1990's ALL those g/boxes failed around 70,000.
Could it have something to do with the driver perhaps 😮😂😝
No because it only happened with those two brands, never on Ford, BMW, Jag, Saab etc.@@scribzone192
That tiny slot you can't fit an iPhone is. It's almost the perfect size for a galaxy Z Flip
The red driving lights are a bit Ginza Astro-boy ...just saying.
Nothing on the Sigma GSR, or a Scorpion, WTF happened to Mitsubishi?
I am more of a hatch person but the only 2 cars I like better in sedan is the CJ lancers like this and the new Mazda 3.
Owned one, when gearbox was in auto it would change into 6th doing 50kmh, I assume to save fuel. It also beeped inside when car is in reverse. Horrible
I'd love a Evo 4 gen
The Ralliart came as a sedan? I never knew until now. It seems that the hatchback was much more common.
Why is this channel recommended for the viewers in Poland? Anyway - it's great.
Hey ReDriven, you guys should do a review on the late 90s to early 2000s Lexus is200s or is300s
Well well… guess what used car channel is published a review on a first-gen IS200 next week?
Please please don’t buy anything that has been modified unless it has been done properly & you have proper paperwork.
There has to be something seriously wrong for that kind of fuel consumption! A properly sorted example should return easily 9/10l per 100kms in a heartbeat
how do you do the update for the ralliart with the ecu flash? might need a link or something because mine is jumpy in first gear and i might need an update
F80 M3 DCT shifter works this way too. Just like a 00s DTM 😜
Always carry a spare cam angle sensor
What luck! I'm hoping to buy my friend's RA this weekend buuuut the tranny has a little leak after the clutch packs were replaced a few years ago and the car was sitting for a while through covid... Any recommendations?
There's only one dealer in the city and they're very hard to get in touch with :/
How did you go fitting those evo 10 wheels?
Bring back the EVO!
Such a shame both EVO and STI are gone 😢
Given the Volvo EX30 and MG4 dual motor variants will out-everything the mitsu GTO, Evo X and the WRX STI for less money and cost less for everything except tyres, it’s time to move on. Even the Cupra Born will give a Golf R a good scare these days with no chance of being picked out of a line by the cops from a loud and increasing pitch exhaust as the waste gate is pinned open by the drivers enthusiastic right foot

The Evo is significantly more expensive.

Plz check out the Mazda 6
100 with you in the direction of the shifter pull/throw. Towards you should be up not down:)
Used to own one got it for 9k with 60k. Best car ever..... until gearbox started slipping 😢😢
Get the trans built
Yeah these never did it for me. Being based on the VR-X but with the Evo's running gear was kind of the sticking point - the contemporary WRX was the better car for spirited driving in pretty much every aspect, especially when it got the power bump in '09.
Wrx won't have the same engine reliability of the boxer and the manual box was also a weak point
Time for an Evo X review!
Can you please review kia rio 1.0 turbo gt line?
funny you should use the hemsworth comparison as i've always suspected you are the lost hemsworth brother
Can’t you get them with a manual transmission?
Is the fuel economy really that bad at 13-17L/100kms?!
A friend of mine purchased a Ralliart he found with a dead engine and built it at around 400hp. Forged pistons and rods, Evo Turbo, camshafts, Evo wheels, Evo brakes. Should I buy it at around 15k USD? It will be a weekend car.
Yes
Any cars that compare for the price and performance of these raliarts? (aside from the reliability)
Only can afford Liam, but I guess I'm happy enough lmao
Hey ReDriven, have you guys looked at q50 or q60 red sports, same motor as the new nissan Z for up to half the cost. Would be interesting to see what you guys have to say about them.
Can you recommend an SST specialist in Newcastle or Sydney?
Evolution Racing Spares or rpmotorsport

As much as I'd love to own one the fuel consumption and transmission are just too big of a red flag for me to consider buying.
I had too laugh at the safety overview because that was easier to understand that most EDM/dub step artists (which i personally can't stand as a genre lol😂)
Again the TBTL factor was missing on this one guys so I'm wondering if you're dropping that feature from the videos.
Overall good work as always guys and as per usual looking forward to the next batch of videos from yourselves 👍.
Cheers mate! Yep, TBTL is gone for the time being. Trying to cut down on the runtime a little to tighten up the videos
@@ReDriven could put the TBTL factor in the 5 things we love/hate shorts or do a TBTL factor compilation video on Wednesday of the previous x weeks review cars. Just a thought.
There’s a bunch of places we could put it, but for now I think we’re just going to focus on tightening things up a bit.
