Can we just appreciate how far Baraka and Reptile have come storywise in the NRS era of Mortal Kombat? They went from being two dimensional minions in MK9 to getting their own story chapters and contributing significantly to the plot.

The final battle essentially being a greatest hits of every past game is just amazing to me. So many references, so many old costumes. The MK team still really cares about this series, and it really shows in this game.
Missed baraka toward the end. Love that they allowed everyone to have their own chapter. Reptile and baraka are no longer jobbers and actually have lines and dialogue that affects the story.
Reptile, Baraka & Geras being fleshed out protagonists was something I had hoped for & any of them turning out to be evil was something that I feared. I'm glad to say my hopes were met & my fears were wrong.
I remember when I first saw Baraka in the arcade in mk2 🤯 my first play was with him. The line was long and I only won one match against another player, to the back of the line 😢
I had already really started to like Johnny since around MK9, but I think this is the best he’s been. Also young Raiden is so nice, he’s mortal and inexperienced but still just as noble as the original Raiden

So many characters made great face turns but none are so wholesome as Geras. Gotta hand it to him. Despite knowing of his role as Kronika's minion in the previous timelines he still remains entirely loyal to Liu Kang. Geras definitely earned some respect for that. Glad to see he has a more significant role now as not only a protector, but a friend. Companionship suits him better than bound servitude.
Geras and Liu Kang was my favor characters in the story mode. I wish they would’ve brought back NightWolf I know he played a huge part in Sindel’s demise but I understand Liu Kang facilitated the timelines
I always loved Reptile, having him in both a significant role and on the side of the good guys makes me happy. Same with Barakka, never thought I’d get a story where Mileena would be empathetic either. They really did a great job of making all the characters compelling.
For those that don’t already know, the interaction between Raiden and Lui Kang at 51:43 is actually a reference to the same interaction they have in Mortal Kombat 9, only now their roles are reversed.
I also like how Lui tells Raiden that he would never send his champions into MK without giving them the full specs UNLIKE Raiden lmfao. That knowing look Lui gives is the cherry on top.
I love Ashrah’s story in this. Very similar to her deception story arc and I also love how Baraka and Mileena now both have a noteworthy back story that actually makes you sympathize with them rather than just see them as mindless bloodthirsty killers
I actually had the same thoughts in my head. I was actually baffled by the fact that Mileena had to suffer from that virus. In which she has now succumb to the need of human flesh when she was very close to being confined to the throne she has very well deserved. I love the background story on Ashrah as well 🔥🔥
baraka was for sure my favorite rewrite. but once again they did very little with reptiles backstory. so much potential there and we never see much of his history.
Honestly this was a fantastic 4 hour long movie. I literally just sat here with no interruptions other than to answer the door for pizza. Love your cuts man!

It is so bizarre seeing a compassionate Mileena, but it works so well, and turning Tarkatans from a savage and primitive outworld clan to people afflicted with a mind and body altering disease was a genius idea to make Barakka and others like him more sympathetic.
There were hints in previous games that she could have turned out like this, in mk10 i think, what she wanted most was a family and someone that loved her despite her appearance. I'm glad they took this route with her character.
I think back to mileena from mk11, now she has a sister who loves her, the throne, and a lover so basically she got all she ever wanted in this new timeline

They did Baraka Reptile and Ashrah justice. Seeing them have their own chapters makes me so happy and the fact the DA is back frickin kicks ass. I am enjoying the story immensely.
It was mid at best, wasted potential at worst. It wasn't compelling enough for her character to grow. Felt like she was handed everything instead of achieving it. Serum was a cop out. Why wasn't Kitana her Kameo fighter in Mileena's chapter?

Some of the best kutscenes I've ever seen in a video game, the quality is insane. This is my first MK game, and it made want to see the previous games, because i felt that i missed a lot of references during the stair fight. I am so impressed with how the managed to flesh out so many characters in a single game, many of them feel ao human and extremely likeable. Their personalities also shine through their dialogue. NetherRealm did amazing on this wowow
I'm actually very impressed with this game's story. It manages to give new life to pre-existing meh characters (Baraka, Reptile, etc.) and give them compelling connections to the greater lore, and gives new spins on already good characters like Shao and Raiden. Overall, this world feels much more compelling than previous iterations and has enough room to grow that I'm excited to see where it goes next. Well done.

The friendship between Kenshi and Johnny in this game was top tier! Even before giving him sento, when Kenshi was facing Tarkatan Mileena his first call was to get Johnny to help him, you love to see it
I’m only partially through the story, but I really like the group dynamic Johnny, Kung, and Kenshi (and Raiden). I was not expecting them to have such good chemistry but I love them. Johnny being the one give Kenshi his blindfold after Kenshi saved him was sweet.
Every time there's a callback to the old timeline is such a good feeling. Seeing Shang Tsung, Quan Chi and Raiden working together had me so nostalgic for MK deception
I really enjoyed seeing Baraka, Reptile and Mileena have more of an honorable role to play in the story and making Scorpion a good guy was just fantastic

@@georgewashington7982 When Liu Kang remade the timeline at the end of 11 he changed it so Bi Han and Kuai Liang (who were formerly the brothers who were Sub Zero and Noob Saibot) would instead become Sub Zero and Scorpion while Hanzo Hasashi (the original Scorpion) I guess got shuffled around in the timeline to become a kid who gets trained by Smoke after the story ends.
Dude, this is insane 🤯 Better than any real movies in theaters these days. This is coming from a guy who hasn’t played an MK game for 25 years. All we got for a “story” back in UMK3 was a load screen with a cool picture and a paragraph that I could barely understand, because I was 8 years old lol

@@hamzaahmad1345yeah but that's fitting for a medium such as video games where its nice to have a canonical reason for A - everyone being murdered all the time, B - the multiple different endings having meaning, C - replayability and D - potential future storylines. It's lazy in super hero movies and comics and I'd argue a money grab.. but multiverse/time travel/cyclical stories are perrrfect for video games. They could continue on and kill of characters all the time and intro new ones but that's a bit annoying for people who spent a lot of time getting really good at specific characters. Scorpion handles the same as he has for the past 20 years kinda thing. They already played out the siblings taking up the mantle, they already played out descendant replacement. I think it works fine and was executed very well. I didnt expect things to go the way they went 90% of the time. Literally my only gripe with the entire story was the mime johnny cage helping you but then fighting you, that made 0 sense.

Plot twist, turn event etc. any impactful point in story and lore will mean NOTHING as we know what could happen. 4. it kills any creative thinking and it will feel like eating, barfing, adding spice, eating again , barfing and then adding spice and eating again. Remakes are one thing but this needs to stop. For example, in borderlands, jack, roland, maya, typhon etc. dying hell even gun companies leading worlds into chaos would mean NOTHING since all it takes is ONE STUPID word and boom, back to square one. (Sorry if you can not relate to BORDERLANDS franchise since it is not everyone's favourite) some people like the idea, some do not. For MK universe, why not create new characters new realms, new villains. or go way way back to events leading to creation of MK tournament. won't that be cool.

Seriously? I actually think visually this is a downgrade from the release of the previous Mortal Kombat. Face model, clothings, shader, the fatalities (look how clean the skull after the character’s face was smashed into the ground), everything became more generic than the previous entry Put a mask on Johnny Cage’s face, and he will look almost like Sub Zero with different hair style. This is usually what happen when they started to hire the wrong people who are good at making generic works, but lacks the soul to make things unique

I love how they adjusted and changed some of the characters in this game. Reptile is now badass, shao is just a general and I think it suits him well, baraka is an honorable man, sindel is a great empress, and so much. This game story and bio is magnificent

Loving the family dynamic and close relationship between Mileena, Kitana and Sindel. It's good to see them connected and supporting each other to common goals.
THIS is how you retcon. The idea that the original cast were now gods of their own universes was a great way to tell more interesting stories, without invalidating what came before.
Thats a weird and terrible retcon if everybody from the og cast is like liu kang but for their own universe, for example liu kang kissing kitana was just him kissing a figment of his creation
Something I really liked about Baraka being a good guy. Still maintaining that ferocity but being able to speak to it. Really cool. Idc I liked the character tweaks.
This story line proves the fact that Liu Kang has and always will be earth realm’s protector. The way he presents and represents himself that it was embedded in him from the beginning. Must give my thanks to the white lotus for creating such a proficient and benevolent individual with so much swagger to lead such a skillful empire 🙏🏾

It began in MK9, with Raiden's vision of Armageddon, and now it has come full circle. I love how each of the playable character's endings ties to the classic lore and sets up the future of the New Era.
As someone who spent his teenage years enjoying DA, Deception, and Armageddon, and seeing how my favourite character Liu Kang was killed, this game is a love letter, and all the three games are mentioned in this game. What a brilliant, clever, loyal-to-fans, and powerful story. Thank you :)
In my opinion MK X was a remake of MK4, and this felt like a remake of the 3D era storywise. Instead of zombie Liu Kang, we got a fire god, plus seeing the deadly alliance back together in Shang Tsung’s chapter was great. Not mention the final chapter was basically Armaegeddon.

The fact that you get to pick the final character to fight with the chosen one of the franchise is awesome enough, but it means even more that you picked the FACE of all of Mortal Kombat history for the finale to fight alongside Liu Kang. There is a reason Scorpion is my favorite character by far, and this game ABSOLUTELY proved it.
Might be a hot take but I actually prefer Kuai Liang as Scorpion over Hanzo Hasashi, idk there's something about it that just makes him 100 times better than Hanzo, like his rivalry with Sub Zero actually means more than just oh you killed my family I want revenge blah blah blah and it just turns into oh you are my family but you still betrayed me and father, that gives the meaning to scorpions character or rather this scorpions character more meaning
I chose scorpion too. I thought it made the interaction weird in the final ending. I mean it kinda worked but when liu kang says I hope to see each other again was odd since they’re from the same timeline
@@ascentiall I chose Rain, because its one of my fav characters. But also since he has history with the pyramid. I thought he had the coolest lines running up the pyramid (I tried them all now) and kt's cool to see him being good. Unfortunately he shows up dead in the after credits. Using Havik is interesting too,but you can only do that the second time. And the Earthrealm champions make most sense storywise I think and have some unique lines. However the " I hope to see you again" makes the least sense with them haha. Since he seems them right after. There is no right character to choose, but I prefer choosing a character that was the villain in this story line, because you get an alt timeline version and Lui Kangs lines make the most sense.

Of the many glow ups in this game, Li Mei’s might be my favorite In the previous games, she was just kinda there. Her betrayal in Deception felt like a weak attempt to give her some character. But this version has so much personality, strong relationships, and ambitions. All of which are crystal clear through dialogue, with no text exposition to imply things that happen. She’s just so great in this

If you notice, Bi Han's voice is the same as Noob Saibot's in MK11, the difference is that being Noob Saibot in MK11, his voice seems to be a little deeper, clearly because he is "dead", here is his more normal voice being alive, his voice is simply beautiful ❤
Being fan of videogames since I was kid it's a gift that keeps on giving. Never in my life I would imagine to see MK elevated on this level. Almost two movies for the story on a fighting game with state of the art graphics

MK1 is fking epic. I love how beautiful it is. The game play is amazing, the campaign is fantastic, and it's a refreshing departure from constant hellscapes. I also love how the x-ray scenes seem to be toned down a bit. It's incredible.
The amount of work this game took still blows me away. Superior quality just for a fighting game. Thank you Ed Boon and the team for making such an awesome experience!
Im only an hour and 15 minutes in and i absolutely love this story. Same characters reimagined and story with the same bone structure but told differently. This is fantastic.

It’s actually INSANE for how incredibly made this is. It ALMOST looks like it’s live actors in a movie they seriously need to make an animated series of the ENTIRE Mortal Kombat timeline. I think it would be an absolute success. Maybe partnering with Netflix or something like with how the Tekken animated series came about. It would be awesome to see.

Sindel really was the character who stole the show for me in this story. They not only fixed her, but they improved upon her. And her VA probably was the best in the game and is a big part of why I enjoyed Sindel here
I remember very vividly back in '94 when I was playing MK2 on my 386 pc, it was lagging and was slow, but I was discovering the full MK story and lore....and here I am, 30 years later, still enjoying it. Definitely one of my favorite games and stories of all time.
For Christ sake, can we appreciate they made facial expression so alive? The way characters make grins or silly faces, they really put a lot of effort and love in this MK, is like they gave all the enthusiasm for this to work and it's fantastic ❤
I just love how they Made Mileena the actual daughter of Sindel and Jerrod, sister to Kitana, chosen heir to the throne and making her a hero :). I also like how Reptile is admired by the heroes and even offered a place with them instead of disgust or viewing him as a monster
This has become my favorite Mortal Kombat story of all time. I loved seeing characters like Baraka and Reptile get their own chapters, actual character development, and become friends with our heroes. I loved seeing the friendship between Raiden and Kung Lao, Mileena being shown so much love in this game and no longer being seen as a monster, Liu Kang and Geras's relationship was also a treat. My point is that this game ABSOLUTELY NAILS character relationships/development. One of my favorite relationships in this game is that of Kenshi and Johnny, seeing them go from enemies to rivals and ultimately being lifelong best friends is just so heartwarming. This has become my favorite Mortal Kombat game of all time and i can't wait to see what Ed Boon and his team have in store for us next. 10/10 game, worth every penny.

The final battle essentially being a greatest hits of every past game is just amazing to me. So many references, so many old costumes. The MK team still really cares about this series, and it really shows in this game.

Missed baraka toward the end. Love that they allowed everyone to have their own chapter. Reptile and baraka are no longer jobbers and actually have lines and dialogue that affects the story.
Reptile, Baraka & Geras being fleshed out protagonists was something I had hoped for & any of them turning out to be evil was something that I feared. I'm glad to say my hopes were met & my fears were wrong.

I had already really started to like Johnny since around MK9, but I think this is the best he’s been. Also young Raiden is so nice, he’s mortal and inexperienced but still just as noble as the original Raiden
Raiden's my new favorite now, he's way more relatable as a human.

So many characters made great face turns but none are so wholesome as Geras. Gotta hand it to him. Despite knowing of his role as Kronika's minion in the previous timelines he still remains entirely loyal to Liu Kang. Geras definitely earned some respect for that. Glad to see he has a more significant role now as not only a protector, but a friend. Companionship suits him better than bound servitude.
Geras and Liu Kang was my favor characters in the story mode. I wish they would’ve brought back NightWolf I know he played a huge part in Sindel’s demise but I understand Liu Kang facilitated the timelines

I love Ashrah’s story in this. Very similar to her deception story arc and I also love how Baraka and Mileena now both have a noteworthy back story that actually makes you sympathize with them rather than just see them as mindless bloodthirsty killers
I actually had the same thoughts in my head. I was actually baffled by the fact that Mileena had to suffer from that virus. In which she has now succumb to the need of human flesh when she was very close to being confined to the throne she has very well deserved. I love the background story on Ashrah as well 🔥🔥

There were hints in previous games that she could have turned out like this, in mk10 i think, what she wanted most was a family and someone that loved her despite her appearance. I'm glad they took this route with her character.

Some of the best kutscenes I've ever seen in a video game, the quality is insane. This is my first MK game, and it made want to see the previous games, because i felt that i missed a lot of references during the stair fight. I am so impressed with how the managed to flesh out so many characters in a single game, many of them feel ao human and extremely likeable. Their personalities also shine through their dialogue. NetherRealm did amazing on this wowow
I'm actually very impressed with this game's story. It manages to give new life to pre-existing meh characters (Baraka, Reptile, etc.) and give them compelling connections to the greater lore, and gives new spins on already good characters like Shao and Raiden. Overall, this world feels much more compelling than previous iterations and has enough room to grow that I'm excited to see where it goes next. Well done.

I’m only partially through the story, but I really like the group dynamic Johnny, Kung, and Kenshi (and Raiden). I was not expecting them to have such good chemistry but I love them. Johnny being the one give Kenshi his blindfold after Kenshi saved him was sweet.

They could continue on and kill of characters all the time and intro new ones but that's a bit annoying for people who spent a lot of time getting really good at specific characters. Scorpion handles the same as he has for the past 20 years kinda thing. They already played out the siblings taking up the mantle, they already played out descendant replacement.
I think it works fine and was executed very well. I didnt expect things to go the way they went 90% of the time. Literally my only gripe with the entire story was the mime johnny cage helping you but then fighting you, that made 0 sense.

4. it kills any creative thinking and it will feel like eating, barfing, adding spice, eating again , barfing and then adding spice and eating again. Remakes are one thing but this needs to stop.
For example, in borderlands, jack, roland, maya, typhon etc. dying hell even gun companies leading worlds into chaos would mean NOTHING since all it takes is ONE STUPID word and boom, back to square one. (Sorry if you can not relate to BORDERLANDS franchise since it is not everyone's favourite)

Face model, clothings, shader, the fatalities (look how clean the skull after the character’s face was smashed into the ground), everything became more generic than the previous entry
Put a mask on Johnny Cage’s face, and he will look almost like Sub Zero with different hair style.
This is usually what happen when they started to hire the wrong people who are good at making generic works, but lacks the soul to make things unique

This story line proves the fact that Liu Kang has and always will be earth realm’s protector. The way he presents and represents himself that it was embedded in him from the beginning. Must give my thanks to the white lotus for creating such a proficient and benevolent individual with so much swagger to lead such a skillful empire 🙏🏾

It began in MK9, with Raiden's vision of Armageddon, and now it has come full circle. I love how each of the playable character's endings ties to the classic lore and sets up the future of the New Era.
As someone who spent his teenage years enjoying DA, Deception, and Armageddon, and seeing how my favourite character Liu Kang was killed, this game is a love letter, and all the three games are mentioned in this game. What a brilliant, clever, loyal-to-fans, and powerful story.

In my opinion MK X was a remake of MK4, and this felt like a remake of the 3D era storywise. Instead of zombie Liu Kang, we got a fire god, plus seeing the deadly alliance back together in Shang Tsung’s chapter was great. Not mention the final chapter was basically Armaegeddon.
Before that is a little reference to deception with raiden,Shang sung and quan chi teaming up again

The fact that you get to pick the final character to fight with the chosen one of the franchise is awesome enough, but it means even more that you picked the FACE of all of Mortal Kombat history for the finale to fight alongside Liu Kang. There is a reason Scorpion is my favorite character by far, and this game ABSOLUTELY proved it.
Might be a hot take but I actually prefer Kuai Liang as Scorpion over Hanzo Hasashi, idk there's something about it that just makes him 100 times better than Hanzo, like his rivalry with Sub Zero actually means more than just oh you killed my family I want revenge blah blah blah and it just turns into oh you are my family but you still betrayed me and father, that gives the meaning to scorpions character or rather this scorpions character more meaning
I chose scorpion too. I thought it made the interaction weird in the final ending. I mean it kinda worked but when liu kang says I hope to see each other again was odd since they’re from the same timeline
@@ascentiall I chose Rain, because its one of my fav characters. But also since he has history with the pyramid. I thought he had the coolest lines running up the pyramid (I tried them all now) and kt's cool to see him being good. Unfortunately he shows up dead in the after credits. Using Havik is interesting too,but you can only do that the second time. And the Earthrealm champions make most sense storywise I think and have some unique lines. However the " I hope to see you again" makes the least sense with them haha. Since he seems them right after. There is no right character to choose, but I prefer choosing a character that was the villain in this story line, because you get an alt timeline version and Lui Kangs lines make the most sense.

Like, the chapter where Shang Tsung, Quan Chi and Raiden work together being called Deadly Alliance is a reference that put a smile on my face, but it’s definitely not meant to be a retelling of that story so I wouldn’t bother trying to look at it that way.

Of the many glow ups in this game, Li Mei’s might be my favorite
In the previous games, she was just kinda there. Her betrayal in Deception felt like a weak attempt to give her some character.
But this version has so much personality, strong relationships, and ambitions. All of which are crystal clear through dialogue, with no text exposition to imply things that happen. She’s just so great in this

If you notice, Bi Han's voice is the same as Noob Saibot's in MK11, the difference is that being Noob Saibot in MK11, his voice seems to be a little deeper, clearly because he is "dead", here is his more normal voice being alive, his voice is simply beautiful ❤
Being fan of videogames since I was kid it's a gift that keeps on giving. Never in my life I would imagine to see MK elevated on this level. Almost two movies for the story on a fighting game with state of the art graphics

MK1 is fking epic. I love how beautiful it is. The game play is amazing, the campaign is fantastic, and it's a refreshing departure from constant hellscapes. I also love how the x-ray scenes seem to be toned down a bit. It's incredible.
I watch this movie twice a month. I love this story. I can’t wait for the next one.

It’s actually INSANE for how incredibly made this is. It ALMOST looks like it’s live actors in a movie they seriously need to make an animated series of the ENTIRE Mortal Kombat timeline. I think it would be an absolute success. Maybe partnering with Netflix or something like with how the Tekken animated series came about. It would be awesome to see.
Netflix would turn it into a woke disaster and Disney would make it even worse. HBO would do it justice, though.

Sindel really was the character who stole the show for me in this story. They not only fixed her, but they improved upon her. And her VA probably was the best in the game and is a big part of why I enjoyed Sindel here

I remember very vividly back in '94 when I was playing MK2 on my 386 pc, it was lagging and was slow, but I was discovering the full MK story and lore....and here I am, 30 years later, still enjoying it. Definitely one of my favorite games and stories of all time.
The fact they made both timelines the true ending was masterful and a great way to satisfy us fans!!!
But also the non-canon endings of Mk11 like when Raiden, Kitana, and the rest defeated Kronika are NOW Canon in their own timelines. 0_o

I just love how they Made Mileena the actual daughter of Sindel and Jerrod, sister to Kitana, chosen heir to the throne and making her a hero :). I also like how Reptile is admired by the heroes and even offered a place with them instead of disgust or viewing him as a monster

Felt like I watched a 4 hour movie and I was entertained the whole time. Awesome work by the devs!
This has become my favorite Mortal Kombat story of all time. I loved seeing characters like Baraka and Reptile get their own chapters, actual character development, and become friends with our heroes. I loved seeing the friendship between Raiden and Kung Lao, Mileena being shown so much love in this game and no longer being seen as a monster, Liu Kang and Geras's relationship was also a treat. My point is that this game ABSOLUTELY NAILS character relationships/development. One of my favorite relationships in this game is that of Kenshi and Johnny, seeing them go from enemies to rivals and ultimately being lifelong best friends is just so heartwarming. This has become my favorite Mortal Kombat game of all time and i can't wait to see what Ed Boon and his team have in store for us next. 10/10 game, worth every penny.
