Thank you! Cannondale finally released the Habit HT1 in a sick silver finish and 1x12 Deore components a few weeks ago. Only upgrade I would need is a better fork. Even the base Manitou Mattoc Comp is so much better than most “Major Brand” forks imo.
At 26 lbs, that a really light hardtail and not really any super high end overpriced components. I bet it rides nice. I think Cannondale did a great job on the geo.
Thanks for watching! I agree 26lbs. Is not bad especially since it’s a XL frame. It’s a bit heavier now though, since I added 2.6” tires and a dropper post…😆 For my type of trails and riding I mostly do, I love how it rides!
@@Onkelrico wow! Especially for an XL frame, that’s light. Yep, bigger tires are heavier. I have a small steel hardtail built with really light parts and a 34Fox 120mm fork(a pretty light fork) and that bike weighs 27lbs but it’s got 29x 2.5” rear and 29x2.6” front tires along with wide CushCore wrappped around a wide i35mm Stan’s Baron CB7 rims. I don’t mind that extra weight because or the way it sucks up the bumps with those high volume tires that serve as a small amount of suspension.
@@Onkelrico thanks, I really like it. True the dropper post, wider rims, fat tires and suspension fork add some weight. But I’ve built up lighter hardtail’s with rigid carbon forks and without dropper post. They’re really nice, and climbing is a pleasure but you have to slow down and be able to pick a good line on the descents.
I hear you. I’m too old to be riding without a suspension fork. Got a bad left shoulder on top of that and even on the smooth flow trails around here I felt it for weeks after riding a rigid fatbike….
Thank you for the inspiration. I just ordered the HT3 version in jade color and will put a fox rhythm 34 on to it I guess. So cool to see a professional upgrading the same bike I have. I did learn a lot and hope I do not fail while upgrading my first MTB since ages. Maybe creating a Frankenstein breaksystem with Shimano Servo 2 finger lever and just buying new tubeless maxxis rims will do the job for me. Do you still enjoy riding yours ?
Thank you for watching, I’m glad my build inspired you! Congrats on the new bike! 👍The Jade looks much better in person than on pics! I think upgrading the fork and going tubeless is a great plan! Awesome build! I'm considering the large cherry HT2 to do the same as you and build it up to go along with my Chameleon. What size is yours? Without a dropper I'm guessing more XC flowing riding? How does she go?
Hi there, glad you like it! Go for it, you won’t regret it! Mine is a size XL and yes, more for XC type riding. I actually installed a dropper to prevent my bottoms getting beat up by the seat on rougher descents….never thought I would actually have a use for or actually enjoy a dropper post!

Install a downtube protector and anti rattle foam hoses to eliminate the noise of the internally routed lines. Hey, do you know what size the IS headset is? 41/52 or 42/52? Also, how tall are you for the XL? Lastly, how are you liking it? Is the steering floppy on flow trails being so slack? Thanks and again, such a great build video!
It’s a 42/52 IS headset. I’m 6’1”. I’m running a 40mm stem, stock one was 50mm. Flow trails is where it actually thrives IMO. I slammed the stem because it felt a bit floppy on technical climbs due to the high stack, now I really like how it handles. Hi, any reason why you got HT 2 instead of HT 1 if You wanted to rebuild it anyway? I know some components are different (and i'm planning to do the same) but for me switch between HT1 and HT2 is enough of an upgrade. Nice build tho :)
Hi. In the USA only the HT2 and HT3 are available for some reason. I know that there is a HT1 in Europe in raw aluminum with Deore 1x12. My local bike shop contacted cannondale, but they would not sell just the frame so I ordered the complete bike. I really like the flat metallic green, that’s why the HT2 instead of the HT3.
Love this video. Cannondale alloy frames are great - im surprised how heavy it was at 5lb though. I'm doing a similar style build with a trail frame, to make an aluminium XC bike.
Glad you enjoyed it. As far as the weight goes, keep in mind that this is an Extra Large frame. Almost all manufacturer’s posted weights you see are based off of a size Medium frame. In case of complete bikes, their weight is almost always without pedals on top of that. 🍻
thanks for the video but some weird design choices on the frame by Cannondale. Is routing the cables under the chainstays such a good idea? Whhy is the seatpost part of the frame sticking out so much? Why are the brake mounts so far away from the frame? And obviously bit heavy for a 'dream' build.
Some good points. Me personally I actually would like all of the cables routed externally, not a fan of internal routing. Even with the 150mm dropper I’m running now, the seat goes down far enough for general trail riding. As far as the weight is concerned, I believe it’s right in line with other big name brands out there when it comes to progressive Hardtails. Dream build for you might be weight weenie set up, for others it might be super burly and heavy, for me it’s durability, versatility and under 28lbs. for a XL sized frame. Only real issue I have with the frame is that it only has 1 water bottle mount…….🍻

In this video I used 52mm chain line cranks on this bike although frame is designed around 55mm. It’s a tight fit, but it worked. 👍Yes, same here. I love the on/off feel. Reminds me of old school v-brakes. You know exactly when the brakes are going to grab…also way easier to bleed, clean up is much easier too, and any fluid spilled won’t be eating your bike’s paint like dot fluid filled brakes would. 🍻

fork is 130mm?
No, travel is set at 140mm. On Manitou Mattoc everything you need to adjust travel and air spring is built in. No need to buy or change airshaft for travel change or buy Tokens to adjust progressiveness! The Stock for was 130mm though.
Do you think a 150mm fork be OK for this frame?
Max. axle to crown (A2C) for XS frame is 531mm and for SM-XL is 563. 2023 Rockshox Lyric 150 for example is 561mm according to SRAM’s online tech documents, so you be OK. Just make sure you don’t exceed the 563mm max. length when shopping around for a fork. 🍻
Hell you can make it a 27.5 and use a 170mm rockshox yuri 562 A2CL@@Onkelrico
That sounds like a fun project!
Aah another Pacific Bicycle build
Pon Holdings owns cannondale, not Dorel that owns Pacific.
Shimano brakes have been good to me
👍Yes, same here. I love the on/off feel. Reminds me of old school v-brakes. You know exactly when the brakes are going to grab…also way easier to bleed, clean up is much easier too, and any fluid spilled won’t be eating your bike’s paint like dot fluid filled brakes would. 🍻
@@Onkelrico I have like 30,000 miles on my bike with the SLX brakes and they work just as good as they did 6 years ago.. I just put a gap spacer on the rotor when I'm not using the bike and it's perfectly gapped when I go out to ride.
Shimano FTW. 👍🍻
@@Onkelrico Seriously
No dropper? Odd choice...
LoL. Dropper was added shortly after. I very rarely use it, so it’s not an odd choice at all to not have one, especially since I don’t really do any gnarly stuff on my hardtail.
