    Beautiful! There is a much easier way of getting the black anodizing off the Al bars - Plastic rubbermaid tray - fill with a 10% solution of NaOH ( household 100% lye crystals - Ace Hardware has it in the US) using hot water. Just lower the bar into the solution and within 30s the anodizing is gone. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection as this stuff is caustic and burns. The solution must be hot and only add the NaOH slowly to the water not the other way round or it will explode. - It works really well - no sanding and no damage to the Al parts. Wash off thoroghly in cold water when done.

      Hydrofluoric acid works to strip off anodizing. It's used in some toilet bowl cleaners. But if more easily sourced at truck stops and parts houses. They use it as an aluminum brightener on the wheels and fuel tanks

    Nice bike no lie, but what I love about this channel is when you do custom finishes and rebuild old parts. Besides sanding the handlebar and refinishing the spokes there was nothing particularly remarkable about this video. Good quality cinematography, parts selection, putting on tires, and editing does not make the kind of content I hunger for from this channel. I hope your next upload delivers more quirks and a more custom product. Best!

    This is purely just simple curiosity, but is there a reason for running such long valve stems? I only really noticed bc I also syringe my sealant, and it would seem with longer stems, there's more room for material to lodge and clog, so now I'm wondering if I'm missing something! Cheers and awesome vids per usual.

    Appreciate your effort to make these videos (i know how much work is with these), but as a bike mechanic (and MTB enthusiast), I have to share with you some of my observations:
    1. That's a DVO Diamond fork, not a Sapphire.
    2. Why you worked so much with polishing that handlebar, while there are available many polished handlebars on the market? (applies also to the spokes)
    3. It's just crazy, that you mounted 4 piston Magura brakes (F+R), and 160mm rotors...
    4. Why the 1 foot long valve?
    5. (and this was your biggest MISTAKE) you swapped the left and right crankarms!!! Wouldn't be a problem, if the pedals you used would have a "rectangle profile" (from the side), not a "parallelogram profile", which leads the rider feet to slip off the pedals more easily.
    6. (an overall mindblow) using some carbon parts (Magura brake levers) to reduce the weight by a bit, yet mounting some super-heavy Cro-Mo crankarms on the same bike, is a nonsense for me.
    What I liked a lot:
    Greasing the contact points only, when installing a thru-axle is elegant, and less messy!
    Good to see some less popular bike parts (not just the mainstream brands) on this build!
    Please, let me have a suggestion for your next builds: take your time, and focus more on the details (for example: don't let the grease to drip on the rotor...). It may take a few minutes extra, but would make you look more like a professional builder.
    Have fun with your builds in the future, and keep up with good work.
    I wish you all the best!

    • @BuildaBetterBike
      @BuildaBetterBike  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate the time you spent to provide this feedback and your expertise. It's extremely helpful. A few answers for you: Long valve stem was because I got a deal on them and I like them (knew I'd get asked this a lot) :). Magura breaks were chosen solely on looks and how well they matched the motif and colors. This is a form over function build, if that wasn't clear. As far as the cranks, really good eye here. You're exactly correct. The spider adapter I found to get the narrow.wide chainring on needs to fit on the spline. Mounted the other way, it doesn't have any spline. I now have seen another adapter that mounts to the single bolt on the crank and doesn't need the serrated spline, which I've ordered to make it right. Hopefully that makes sense. Would love to hear if you know of a different solution. Again, these parts are all about looks,.for the sake of the video, but will be making tweeks to the version that gets ridden.
      Your feedback is extreme welcomed and appreciated!

    • @snaXaminator
      @snaXaminator ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuildaBetterBike I totally agree with you, that sometimes the form over the function wins :)
      About the crankset: (it's really just my opinion) you accepted an unnecessary challenge, when you opted for a BMX crank arms. While these looks great (just like some titanium MTB crankarms from eeWings - which requires selling a kidney :)), since these are $1000+ crank arms), finding the perfect adapter may cause headache. Hope the new adapter will work just fine!
      I wish your YT channel (subscriber count, and views) will grow, because you deserve it 👍

    • @BuildaBetterBike
      @BuildaBetterBike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It comes well-lubricated in this horrible viscoussy lube that is absolutely the worst. Everything sticks to it. It's meant to preserve it in packaging, storage and shipment and in lots of climates. It's not the right lube for the conditions it will eventually be used. I always remove it and use the right lube for the area of riding.
