Good job 👍🫡👌
🔥🔥🔥
Ha, looks like we had very similar ideas except that I started out with a "4" instead of a "3". Awesome build -- enjoy it!
Thanks, man. I only went with this one because of the “Tigershark Grey”. 🍻
Beautiful!! So dialed.
Is this a carbon frame? If not, how forgiving is it compared to other hard tails you've ridden? Thank you!!
It’s an aluminum frame and pretty stiff but still surprisingly comfortable on flow trails until you run into roots and chunk. Have not ridden a whole lot of other hardtails, so I can’t really compare.
@@Onkelrico Thank you Sir! Beautiful build!!
do you need to buff and polish or is there a way not to have to i dont want to buy a buffer just for my headlights
Plenty of videos on youtube with others techniques that don’t involve using a buffer. 🍻
Great job on this swap, also very informative to watch. I am planning to stage 2 tune my audi s3 with the same engine, do you guys have any idea what caused the engine to blow? How many hp did this engine make? Thanks alot!
Glad you enjoyed it! No idea what caused it, I have a suspicion though. A local indy shop replaced the turbo last year so a botched install is very likely. When my Buddy picked up the engine, the Humble Mechanic said he might pick the engine up to investigate and shoot a video about it. We never Dyno’d the car, but it’s APR Stage 2 93 high torque tuned, has APR DSG tune as well, APR dp, APR IC, Inlet Pipe (which broke when removed😡), APR turbo muffler delete, APR Charge hoses, APR coils & plugs. These cars (+S3’s & TTS’s) are really rowdy when Stage2 tuned. My car has the same mods + some extras and it ran in mid to high 11’s on the track on stock tires at normal tire pressures, full weight in 107F° weather.🍻
@@Onkelrico Sounds like a fair reason, have heard of some turbo problems and failures on these engines. extremely important to do the installs right, especially when running those numbers/times. So far, I’m loving the the ea8 platform. Also really cool that you guys are in contact with the Humble Mechanic, would be cool to see a video about the blown engine.
Yeah, that’s the reason we decided to do it ourselves, not rushing it but doing it right. Nolan couldn’t find a replacement engine anywhere, I remember watching the Humble Mechanics DAZA swap video where he wrapped the 2.0 in plastic on a palette and said he’ll keep it and sell it. So we called Deutsche Autoparts, they contacted the HM, exchanged phone numbers. Luckily we’re in GA., so it was only a few hours drive. Had the “new” engine a few days after establishing contact. They’re good folks. Even threw in some freebies like the swaybar, endlinks, and even answered a few questions after the sale. These engine are HARD to find. Most used ones you’ll find online probably went to hell and back…VW dealer quoted $17.000.- just for the long block!
@@Onkelrico 17k?! Thats insane!!
What's the build weight with the stock wheels? I just ordered the Carbon 2 thinking it would be around the same weight of the 1, but i'm realizing that shimano rear hub is heavier and the wheelset overall may be significantly heavier than the 1
Never took the weight of it with all of the stock parts, but my “Guesstimate” for the XL would be in the 34-36lbs range.
@@Onkelrico Ouch, that's not good. The Carbon 1 reviews say the Large is around 30lbs, so the wheelset, hubs and a couple other parts must be adding a lot of weight compared to the Carbon 1
Yep. Keep in mind the XL frame itself adds quite a bit of weight as well compared to a L. Mine also came with different specs compared to what was listed online….32 Spoke wheels instead of 28, different brakes, bb, crankset. Also had pretty heavy tubes installed….The Habit Carbon 1 not only doesn’t have “thrown together” groupset, but a complete GX, already comes with a carbon handlebar and the lighter damper cartridge in the fork. Right now it’s on sale in the US for $4.000.- A much better deal compared to when I bought my 2. Only thing the 1 needs out of the box is a tubeless conversion. If you install a better wheelset, you’ll have a pretty lightweight confidence inspiring trail bike that should easily be at or under 30lbs.🍻
Did you but the full bike or just the frame? Because that's a completely different build! I bet it rides sweet though. I ride a stock HT2. I'll be upgrading the fork first then the drivetrain when its worn
Yeah, I had to buy the whole bike and tear it down first. Fork upgrade is definitely a great start. Even on the HT1 a fork upgrade would make a big difference! 🍻
Fork travel?
Manitou Mattoc was set to 140mm. 🍻
Could you please tell me how tall you are and what size frame you bought?
I’m 6’1” and it’s a XL sized frame. 🍻
@ thank you! That’s how tall I am and literally just hit purchase on Cannondale’s website for an XL 😀
Congrats! 🎉 Glad I could help. Enjoy your new bike! 🍻
I would like to know the total cost of the bike😊
Don’t have an accurate number, around $3500.- 🍻
Thats a very nice build! Just purchased the aluminum HT1 in Mercury colorway, can’t wait for its arrival.
Tell me How that goes for you, I was looking into getting one myself but there weren’t any reviews on the website!
Hello One question. The frame Is for 55 mm chain line. Your shimano xt crank Is a more conventional 52 mm chain line? Thanks
Yes, 8100 (52CL) cranks fit, but they’re very close to the chain stays. I talk about it in a follow up video. I since switched to 8120 (55CL) cranks and the fit is better. 🍻
Thanks
What's the travel of your mattoc?
On this bike it was set @ 140mm 🍻
What was the total build cost?
Don’t have an accurate number, around $3500.- 🍻
Nice build but no dropper????😮
Thanks. This is the link to a follow up video where you can see changes done to the bike including a dropper post: video FORKS AREA TRAIL SYSTEM (F.A.T.S.), ON MY BUILT 2023 HABIT HT !? th-cam.com/video/6BILKBPKRS4/w-d-xo.html
did you use 55mm or 52mm chainline with the shimano cassette because i have 11speed 10-51 tooth deore with original 30tooth chainring with 55cm chainline and i find the chainline extreme in the largest rear sprocket. would 52mm chainline with 32 tooth chainring give enough chainstay clearance?
In this video I used 52mm chain line cranks on this bike although frame is designed around 55mm. It’s a tight fit, but it worked. Changed to 55mm now though, because this is my mucky weather bike, and I needed a bit more clearance. Fitment depends on the cranks and Q-Factor. Truvativ Stylo DUB carbon 52mm chainline crankset didn’t fit.
@@Onkelrico could you tell me if the derailleur fits on the udh without any kind of adapter? and is that the same for the deore derailleur too?
@pauldowbakin8657 as you can see in the video, no adapter needed. Any “normal” derailleur bolts right on.
Nice build and an awesome video! I have a habit ht1 and you gave me some inspiration for some upgrades.
Love the fat bike. Yes I own a framed Minnesota 2021. It’s nice but wanna add hydraulic brakes and a dropper and set it up tubeless as well. Also consider buying a new bike and making this a project build. Love the Rocky Mountain fat bikes. Sharp
I agree. Going tubeless saves a bunch of weight and will allow you to run lower pressure without tearing the tube’s valve-stems off. Hydro brakes are much better suited as well to slow these fat tire beasts down. 🍻
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it. You gave me the confidence to dig in my dropper. I found chunks of the three hard plastic sliders, a broken bumper (felt like elastomer foam - I didn't see that in yours) and the upper section is very scratched/skived. Fingers crossed that I can get another season out of it. Also, the bolt at 5:58min mark has an anti-tamper triangle head, but it's still possible to break it loose. Thanks again!
Really enjoyed it, fantastic craftsmanship, would love to learn it. How long did it take in real time to put it together?? How does it ride, I'm looking for the same bike myself.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Took about a day to do. If not shooting a video, it’ll only take a few hours to build. It feels surprisingly light for a 140/150 trail-bike, climbs pretty well too. Only thing that made it feel really unbalanced was the fork…. The stock rear shock is actually really nice. Great small bump absorption, but still supportive without feeling like a lifted truck. The stock fork on the other hand was really bad. It was harsh, and nothing like the rear, making the whole bike feel kind of unbalanced. Upgrading the guts to Charger 3 with buttercups, replacing the air spring also with the buttercups version and switching to low friction SKF wiper seals did the trick, but the Manitou suspension is just my preferred set up. Bottom line, first thing on your to do list should be the front suspension. Happy Trails, can’t go wrong with a model year ‘23 Habit. Nothing proprietary on it anymore, solid performer. 🍻
Why is your fork on backwards?
It’s not backwards. Manitou forks have what’s called a “Reverse Arch”. Makes the fork stiffer and lighter. 🍻
Jesus fuck your fork is backwards
What did the build end up weighing?
21:37Mins. 🍻
Did you use any sort of protectant application after the restoration process?
Only the Ceramic Wax Coating. Lights are still clear. 🍻
Love this video. Cannondale alloy frames are great - im surprised how heavy it was at 5lb though. I'm doing a similar style build with a trail frame, to make an aluminium XC bike.
Glad you enjoyed it. As far as the weight goes, keep in mind that this is an Extra Large frame. Almost all manufacturer’s posted weights you see are based off of a size Medium frame. In case of complete bikes, their weight is almost always without pedals on top of that. 🍻
I pick up my bike next week 27th. I could use some of your detailing skills
Do you sell the stickers? Interested. Thanks
Maybe in the future I will. 🤔🍻
Great video, do you have any experience with 34T? I mean the bike frame, and its structure Best regards.
Thank you! Looks like a 34T would fit as long as it’s not an oval.
@@Onkelrico is that in 55mm or 52mm chainline?
@pauldowbakin8657 Bike has 55mm chain line, but I used a 52mm chain line crankset for this build initially (XT FC-M8100-1). I’m running Shimano FC-M8120-1 cranks with 55mm chain-line now to have a bit more clearance between chain-stays and crank arms. 🍻
@@Onkelrico cool! do you have any problem with severe chainline using the 12 speed cassette and 55mm chainline? mine drops the chain on big cog if clutch is off and you back pedal
@pauldowbakin8657 No problems, chain stays perfectly put on largest sprocket with the 55mm CL when back pedaling no matter if clutch is on or off. 🍻
No dropper? Odd choice...
LoL. Dropper was added shortly after. I very rarely use it, so it’s not an odd choice at all to not have one, especially since I don’t really do any gnarly stuff on my hardtail.
Great build. I should have my Habit within the week. What's that torque tool you're using there?
Thanks. Glad you like it. You will love yours as well I bet. I always use preset 4NM torque keys made by Prestacycle for bars, stems etc., and 3NM for brake lever, shifter, grips and seat post clamp. 🍻
@@Onkelrico thanks mate. Will look them up 👍
Great video! May I ask the reference of the downtube protection? Thanks.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Link is added to the video description now. 🍻
Do you think Habit Ht is suitable for every day (city/off-road)? But I will still use it on trails, of course.
Yes, 100%. It’s a great allrounder! A real mtb, that’s a perfect, neutral platform, that with a few tweaks according to preference can be dialed to go either way of the spectrum. Too many companies make bikes to only fit a certain riding style, the Habit HT is the opposite of that. Jack of all trades, master of none which is what I personally really appreciate. 🍻
@@OnkelricoThank you very much for such a detailed answer
@@OnkelricoI am 15 years old (height 170 cm), in the future my height will be approximately 180 cm, what size frame should I take MD, LG (M, L), if I take a bike for 3-5 years in advance?
I would advise to go to a bikeshop to get fitted. The recommended sizing for me on the cannondale website was spot on however.
Which bike would you prefer, the Cannondale Habit HT2 or the Roscoe 6?
I don’t have experience with the Trek. Looking at the 2024 specs though I would say it’s a tough choice. I don’t dig the fork on the Trek, but that can be easily swapped for a better one. I like the fact the Trek already comes with beefier tires and 2 water bottle mounts on the frame. Comparing the 2023 Roscoe 6 with the Habit HT2 the Habit takes the cake hands down. 2023 Roscoe can’t take more than a 120mm fork and has no through axle rear so that would be a nogo for me.
@@Onkelrico I heard the 2024 Roscoe 6 has the same frame as the other Roscoes and through axles. I don't even understand what through axles are lol. I could also consider the Habit 3 or Roscoe 7 if you think one of those is much better. But I am pushing my budget.
Correct. 2023 Roscoe 6 is the one I personally would not consider because of some old standard on the rear wheel. 2024 got major updates. I love my Habit(s), so I guess I’m the wrong person to ask which one to pick 😉Local bike shop might be more of a help there.
@@Onkelrico Well, where I am REI has the Habit and Trek the Roscoe. They will sell me what they have. What do you think of the Cannondale Habit 1 in comparison to the Roscoe 6 or even 7? I basically want a good frame I can upgrade in the future. So the frame should be of good quality and last.
@Jose-sy1je Roscoe 7 vs. Habit 1 is a good comparison, similar specs and price. I think the Habit 1 looks sick in silver. Both are quality bikes. Can’t go wrong with either one. If they have them in stock locally, base your decision off of a testride and see which one you jive with better. 🍻
Will someone please tell me if I can switch the 29’ wheels with 27.5?
That sounds like an interesting topic for a future video…..
Which HT is this?
It’s a HT2 frame. Go to my channel to see the Habit HT dream build video.🍻
would you say this would work for all vehicles?
As long as it’s a plastic lens, yes.
clear as day!!! otw to the store lmao
👍🍻
Great video, as a noob to MTBs and servicing I enjoyed it a lot.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi is it ok to put 150 mm travel fork on this frame?
Max. axle to crown (A2C) for XS frame is 531mm and for SM-XL is 563. 2023 Rockshox Lyric 150 for example is 561mm according to SRAM’s online tech documents, so you be OK. Just make sure you don’t exceed the 563mm max. length when shopping around for a fork. 🍻
What are good fork upgrades for this bike?
@johnnyd614 anything in the 130-150mm travel range should be fine and depends on what type of riding you do. 🍻
so a 170mm lyrik wouldn’t fit?
Looking at the measurements, no. You would void the warranty.
Thank you for the inspiration. I just ordered the HT3 version in jade color and will put a fox rhythm 34 on to it I guess. So cool to see a professional upgrading the same bike I have. I did learn a lot and hope I do not fail while upgrading my first MTB since ages. Maybe creating a Frankenstein breaksystem with Shimano Servo 2 finger lever and just buying new tubeless maxxis rims will do the job for me. Do you still enjoy riding yours ?
Thank you for watching, I’m glad my build inspired you! Congrats on the new bike! 👍The Jade looks much better in person than on pics! I think upgrading the fork and going tubeless is a great plan! Oftentimes the actual parts on the bike are different from what’s listed on the manufacturer’s website, so it might come with different brakes already. The Habit Carbon I build not too long ago came with better parts than expected, so just wait with buying parts until you get the bike. And yes, I still enjoy riding mine. Did a few tweaks here and there that I will talk about in another video in the future. Happy Trails! 🍻
Smooth, super smooth.
Freakishly amazing. Thank you, Rico.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Habit+
you used aluminum anti seize on the flange studs, should really use copper there due to the temps. also when you removed the oil feed line you cant see what youre doing to remove it in the video. I just needed to know what you used to get that top right nut off with though and thought since i got some info i would give some in return. thanks for the video, great quality and editing.
fork is 130mm?
No, travel is set at 140mm. On Manitou Mattoc everything you need to adjust travel and air spring is built in. No need to buy or change airshaft for travel change or buy Tokens to adjust progressiveness! The Stock for was 130mm though.
Do you think a 150mm fork be OK for this frame?
Max. axle to crown (A2C) for XS frame is 531mm and for SM-XL is 563. 2023 Rockshox Lyric 150 for example is 561mm according to SRAM’s online tech documents, so you be OK. Just make sure you don’t exceed the 563mm max. length when shopping around for a fork. 🍻
