    Hi. I'm Mario Rossin's son. Unfortunately he passed away in 2018. I'm sure he would have appreciated your great work on his frame.
    Thank you so much 💙

      Giuseppe Marinoni would have learned to weld and build frames from your dad. I had a custom bike built in 1988, and to this day, I regret selling it.

    I believe that Mario Rossin taught Giuseppe Marinoni how to build frames.
    Marinoni is based in Montreal and has built many beautiful frames that track perfectly straight. I have one.
    What Rossin knew certainly rubbed off on Marinoni for sure.
    Would be great if you could get your hands on a Marinoni one of these days.
    Thanks again for all the great videos you put out I always look forward to viewing them.

  • @davidrobinson9507
    @davidrobinson9507 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Dude,
    My last real racing road bike was a Rossin. In 1992, I managed to score my first big public art commission in Ottawa Canada. Being given more money than I had ever seen, I waltzed into an Ottawa bike shop and chose the white and green Rossin frame hanging from the ceiling, and had the shop install the full C Record Gruppo, with the delta brakes and everything.
    Unfortunately the Gruppo was pantographed all with 'Pinarello'...so I ended up with a hybrid of brands. But anyway it was a great bike, I raced my last road races on that bike and eventually I traded it to a neighbour youngster for an amplifier...then years later he found a customer online who really wanted those delta brakes and all the vintage value of my Italian blend beloved ride. I delighted in the path which I'm aware my Rossin travelled. For some years, I'd see my neighbour out going hard on the Rossin. I wonder where it is now. I had put the Greg LeMond 'drop in ' bars on her and I think that was a good innovation. I am still a fan of Greg LeMond and I'd styled my set-up and fitting of my bikes on his book.
    Thanks for the memories mate!
    Cheers Dave
    ( Currently restoring a late eighties Ritchey...)

      @BikeItUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, thanks for sharing your story. I honestly have a soft spot for a Rossin. It was the one brand I used to know very little about and couldn’t afford. I’m sure yours will still be out there. Thanks for your support and watching all the best 👍

    Excellent video and channel. Congratulations on the great and careful restoration of this beautiful Italian model. I am a Brazilian enthusiast and amateur cyclist of road bikes. Here in Brazil we had some iconic models: Caloi 10 and Caloi 12. The model number refers to the number of gears. Cycling hugs!

      @@BikeItUK Yes but hold off until the spring/summer, the weather is miserable right now. You could make a video over here, that would be cool. We probably have the toughest rural roads in Europe, they say thats what made Sean Kelly so strong on his bike. Anyway everyone is running around with masks on worried about catching a cold. Wish they would all just enjoy life, and get some exercise. You look so happy and fit because thats the beauty of being one with your machine and nature. God bless you.

    It's great to see a Rossin feature. I love mine, owned it since new in 1986. I was obviously heavily influenced by seeing a chromed lugged red bike in the guards van on the train on the way home from school, owned by a guy looking like Neil from The Young Ones. Also by Wielersport and Mick Perry who was selling a few at the time.
    I had a mix of Gipiemme, Campagnolo and Ofmega originally, but went over to Shimano 600 tricolour and Dura Ace in the early '90s. The best brakes ever after side pulls. Then I rebuilt it with all the parts I wanted back in the '80s, albeit a retrograde move, as it seems I'd better post out warning letters or use an anchor to stop, going from Dura Ace dual pivot calipers to single pivot Monoplanars.
    The Dura Ace used to feel as though when gripping, they'd lock the wheel up like a disc brake whilst the tubular would keep rotating, if it wasn't for the valve holding it in place!
    Anyway, great bicycles, a great rebuild and refreshing to see it in another colourway other than red, white or silver
    Chapeau!

    I’ve just had a look at this bike in my 1988 Freewheel catalogue. The frame is listed as a “Rossin Matrix” & built from Columbus Matrix tubing, price back then was £239.95. The complete bike with Tri-colour components was £589.

      That's about $2200USD today, not a bad deal for a hand made full Ultegra equipped bike.

    • @KeithHeinrich
      @KeithHeinrich 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A characteristic of Rossin bikes is no two are the same and the catalog is merely a suggestion. ;)
      The label on the frame indicates Columbus Aelle tubing (1:16). It also lacks some of the details such as pantographed lugs and Campagnolo dropouts that graced the higher end frames of the day as well as . That it has a mix of DuraAce parts on it shows that someone loved it very much at some point. It is obviously a magnificent thing and well worth preserving.

    Another top restoration Andy! You've really got me seriously thinking about getting a 1970s or 80s steel period bike. In 1980 I bought a beautiful Peugeot Corse from Dave Kane Cycles in Belfast. It was a lovely bike in a beautiful pearlescent orange colour - I'd saved up pocket money for months to buy it - wish I had it now! Keep up the excellent work Andy!

      It’s a very rewarding thing to do and I’d encourage anyone to recycle ♻️ a bicycle. Not only is it satisfactory but it’s preserving a little bit of history, and if it takes you back to your childhood then that in my opinion is princess 👍 Thanks for watching and your support

    • @12pagani
      @12pagani 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man go for it, I have quite the collection of older roadbikes and all are steel! My 2 pride and joys are my 1973 Raleigh professional 63cm that I fitted a period campy super record and tubulars. It's stupid lightweight even against 90s carbon roadbikes. It's very comfort and very quick, yet supple and responsive. My other baby is my 1984 Paletti super prestige racer and that Columbus Slx tubing is just splendid. Also own 3 other Raleighs, a puch odyssey, and a fugi

    To continue with my tardy chat: The Cinelli bar & stem definitely brought the professional asthetic back to this road bike. I'll bet the retuned 600 group set made this example functionally a breeze to ride again. Well done :)

    Another excellent build, congrats! I’m a big fan of the vintage Shimano, having everything from DA EX, AX, 7400, 7410, 7700, and 7800. I don’t have a 600 equipped bike, yet. You got me thinking. I have a late 80s Team Miyata that will need a respray. Maybe a similar color scheme as this Rossin but with Miyata branding is in order. Then just need to find a Tri-color 600 groupset. The only thing I would have maybe done differently on your Rossin build was to use a Shimano 600 aero stem. I have used these stems (AX, 600, and later DA) exclusively on most of my vintage builds utilizing quill stems. I am in the process of two retro-mod builds, 1989 Tesch S-22 and 1991 Zullo with silver Campy 11 speed, partly inspired by your Colnago example. For those, I was able to fine nice NOS Cinelli stems, an XA and 1R. Otherwise I would have used aero Shimano. Great content you are putting out. Keep it up! You and a few others on TH-cam are an inspiration to those of us who value this era of bicycles. You have a great platform to get the word and ideas out to the masses.

      Wow, thank you my friend for your supporting comment 😉👍 Yes the Shimano stems are definitely a thing of beauty with concealed bolts etc, the stem I used I had already so it kind of made sense. Great to hear your mixing the 11 speed up, I absolutely adored the Colnago I did, definitely the best of both worlds. Thanks again and so much more planned watch this space 👍😉

    Nice job. How did you get the Dura Ace indexing to work with the 600 Tricolor derailleur? The Dura Ace shifters shouldn't be able to pull enough cable... or are you using it in friction and it just sounds indexed in the video? In the video you didn't use the alternative cable attachment point that makes the two index nicely together.
    Also, it's a personal preference thing, i guess, but you always shove the stems way down. Bikes of the era were usually set up with a bit more quill showing, in part because drops were deeper, and riders spent more time in the drops and less on the hoods, among other things.
    But great work again!

    • @BikeItUK
      @BikeItUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for watching and your comment, yes you are correct regarding the shifting the index did work but not as well as I had hoped so yes when out riding I used the friction option for fine tuning the gears.
      Regarding the stem generally It’s just more for the look of the bike. It creates a more aggressive race bike look. My personal collection of bikes are all set up differently depending on the style of riding I’m doing. Touring I’m definitely in a more up right position.
      Thanks again and take care 👍
