  • Friends, here is a touching interview I had with 6 time Olympic Medalist Allison Schmitt on her battle with depression. Depression is real and can be serious and as some of you know all too well can be fatal. I am passionate about telling these stories so that we can unite to help one another get the support so many need. Allison is a huge light in the world. I am so proud and honored to have had the chance to meet her and help tell her story. Please watch, share and help celebrate Allison's victories both in and out of the swimming pool as she heads to Rio to represent the our great country for the third time. We've got your back Allison. If you ask me, you are America's Olympic darling - Rio 2016.
Allison Schmitt trains as a successful competition swimmer. We talk about her training and nutrition and what it really takes to be an elite athlete. Allison started swimming at the age of nine. Over the years she tried various activities like basketball, dance, volleyball, softball and soccer. She decided to try swimming because her older sister was doing it. Although Allison started focusing on swimming when she was 12, her potential became clear when she had her first real breakout swim as a junior in high school. During a national swim competition, she dropped several seconds off her normal time in the 200-meter freestyle, establishing herself as an elite athlete. Soon after, she began training alongside Olympian, Michael Phelps. She has won 17 medals in major international competitions and is a six-time Olympic medalist. She brought home a bronze in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and followed that with three golds, a silver and a bronze in the 2012 Olympics in London.
When you're an elite athlete, optimal nutrition is essential for peak performance. No matter what the goal is, the right foods will increase your energy, promote muscle growth and help with muscle repair. Eat the wrong foods and they can harm an athlete's performance. Allison talks about her diet and eating habits and how they have changed over the years.

Allison is very special and I admire her very much. I'm sad she struggles and lost her cousin due to bipolar disorder. I struggle with bipolar disorder and gender identity disorder. I'm proud of her accomplishments in her Olympic competition. I think she's awesome!💜
