This was just a devastating performance from Schmitt, that was an incredibly talented field, arguably the most talented ever in an Oly Final, and she simply destroyed them. Was probably my favourite swim of the meet (and I'm Australian!)

Wow.. Missy Franklin only missed a medal in this race by 1/100th!! I see her taking more than just backstroke finals in Rio. I know she is working on her freestyle swimming. Great racing, ladies!

Muffat is my favourite swimmer of the year, but this is my favourite (LC) swim of the year. Just a cracking effort. Such a classy field and she DESTROYED them.
The 200 free at this Olympics in both men and women was the middle ground for all sorts of different eventers: sprinters moving up (Agnel/Hemskerk), stayers stepping down (Sun/Muffat), 200 specialists (Shmitt/Pelagrini), medley swimmers(Lochte), butterflyers (Sjostrom) AND backstrokers (Franklin). Hope it stays that way!

"it's like a 100 meter sprint with 2 laps at the end" (speaker) isn't that what a 200 is, a sprint
She's saying that she went out fast and kept the endurance. Many take a 200 slower at the start because they don't have the endurance for the whole thing to sprint.
its a middle distance race, you cant really swim it fully flat out start to finish

You can argue 200 Free has taken over from 100 Free as the blue riband event since Sydney/Athens... Best pedigree of swimmers, probably race I look forward to most :)

for sure. i dont think angel is my favorite swimmer, but that just might be the best swim in the olympics. the competition was insane and he rose to the challenge beautifully

Did anyone notice the "take your mark" sounds different in this race than the one in the modern pentathlon? The one in this race goes "Take your mark... BEEP!!!" and the one in the modern pentathlon goes "TAKE your marks... BEEP!!!". Meanwhile the times are faster and the race is more exciting (as it's a race, not a time trial)

Уверенная и безоговорочная победа Элисон Шмитт. У соперниц в этом заплыве нет ни каких шансов! Американские пловцы особенно уверенно выступают на олимпийских играх , в Лондоне особенно. США в плавании обычно завоевывают примерно 34 - 40 % это очень высокий показатель в этом виде спорта. Молодцы !

Here missy Franklin would have got silver with her time of 1:54 at Barcelona and a gold in the 2014 pan pacs because Ledecky went 1:55 but 1:54 in the relay
After this, Schmitt disappeared on high levels. Same about Muffat, even before she died. Franklin retired after four great years. Pellegrini still world champion and the world record holder, and she began internationally in 2004. The most long-lasting and the one with the bigger career among all the swimmers in this race.
Schmitt swam on the 4x200 relay in Rio and won the gold in that event. She also swam in the 2019 World Championships and picked up a couple of relay medals there. Pellegrini still hasn't won an Olympic medal.
@@nightflyer3242 Easy when the relays are American. They depend on national teams. The American one is the strongest. The individual medals are much more indicative, cause they depend just on the value and speed of that single athlete. Schmitt doesn't have an individual gold medal at the Worlds, and didn't set an individual world record! And I stop here!
@@nightflyer3242 Pellegrini won silver at Athens 2004, and gold at Beijing 2008. Plus, she has six individuals gold medals at worlds, and set 11 individual world records.

Don't worry. I like the 200 free. Its actually my best and fav event!
Sorry this is so late as a comment. If your still nervous about your 200 free or 200’s in general, my first 200 free, goodness I was a worry wuss. So we’ve all been there. Your not alone! Trust me, once you get the hang of the rhythm, turns, and quick dive routine, you’ll have a Regional time before you know it!

Funny to think Allison Schmitt’s brother; Derek Schmitt was my coach for a period. Tough to know that after I found out (Was like 9 at the time :D)

Especially her turns, if she can dolphin kick further off the walls then she and Phelps would've been identical. Bob Bowman's a great technique coach.

Yes, you're right. at this time,agnel is not really a super star sprinter. He finished 100m freestyle on London quite slower than Magnussen, Adrian:D. however, i hopes he will get a medal in this event in Rio:D
indeed, however agnel is a 200m specialist. he holds textile best and national records in the 200 free lc and sc, along with a national record in the 400m lc and a world record 400m sc, and a national record in the 800m sc. the only outstanding thing he did in anything less than a 200 was that last leg in the 4x1 in london
Schmitty was cheered on by her crew chief, Annie Whiteley and when Schmitty hit the wall, her crew chief high-fived her.

I feel bad for Missy. To miss out on a medal by one hundredth of a second is tough. But happy for Australia for getting that medal.
Why feel bad for Missy? Missy won more golds than the entire Australian siwmming team in London 2012.

very true for the womens side. my favorite swimmer of the year and swim on the mens side and possibly over all would be yannick agnel and his 200m swim. he destroyed sun yang, park tae hwan and lochte--an incredibly strong field--by nearly 2 seconds and lowered the textile record by over half a second

agreed. but ineddiblehulk said he was a sprinter, which he sort of is, but much more a 200/400 guy. hes pretty good at the 100 and 800 but his talent lies with the 200
true, although i would categorize him as a middle distance swimmer. he has much more raw speed than someone like sun yang who is a true distance swimmer

I love swimming so much.Thats why it's so hard to comprehend why probably all Olympic athletes use peds. I really wish there was trusted and honest oversight that kept sports clean. Why so many athletes use drugs is beyond me. I get it, they want to win.. but look at Lance Armstrong, one of the biggest junkies in sports. He just lied through his teeth over and over.. so sad, I really love sports.. clean ..
