- Croatia beat Iceland 2-1 in Rostov-on-Don in an exciting match in which the Icelanders also had one eye on events in Saint Petersburg, where Argentina and Nigeria were also battling to qualify from Group D.

As a Brazilian I would like to congratulate both teams firstly to Croatia, they struggled with Iceland in the qualifying, must win on play offs and after that win the group with Argentina, Nigeria and Iceland and they would reach at the final and unfortunately lost to France and Iceland to reach for first time to WC and draw with our rivals Argentina but unluckily lost to Nigeria, I want to see you guys in Qatar 🇭🇷🇮🇸

Iceland thanks for the efforts you made to qualify to this World Cup by having just a population of 300,000 and for all the support you had of your fans. 10% of your population cheering in Russia is something and your team consisting of normal employees is really really impressive. Island was playing for their lives like crazy and we still beat them with B team (9 changed players!!!) that never plays together! Hats off to Island, but I can't believe the team we have! This is just incredible victory, tells more about the team than victory against Argentina! The only goal we conceded in these 3 victories was from penalty kick! Am I dreaming, what parallel universe is this?! haha After so many years of frustrations and early exits they are finally putting it together, and it looks mighty impressive!

I agree with almost everything you said but "insurmontable odds"? Croatia basically played with Modric, Perisic and 9 bench players who never played together in a match before. I am sorry but Iceland had their chance against Nigeria and were blown away. And i am sad for them because i like them but they dont deserve to go through.
Jarvis I will concede that that statement was added for dramatic effect but it I believe we've gotta give credit where credit is due, Croatia is STRONG. As someone who is admittedly a pure casual when it comes to football, I was surprised to see Croatia perform so strongly in their group - especially against Argentina. I understand that while Iceland aren't (yet) up to the World Cup standard seen in previous years, I still think that their efforts are commendable and I full confidence that they will improve in future years.
