The player wasn’t injured and got up and on with it but Van Bommel went in studs up over the ball trying to do the guy, nasty. So as great as the goal was it never should of stood, ref should’ve blown the whistle and shown a red card IMO. Netherlands were a filthy dirty team in 2010, it was a relief for every neutral when they lost

The 2006 cambiaso goal is one of the best of WC history in general. The final touch itself isn’t stellar, but the team build up by Argentina was something beautiful to witness live as they routed Serbia

2010 and 2014 are my favorites. There was just something special in the air. From the football all the way to the atmosphere. Our country didn't get far in neither of those, but boy did I enjoy those two World Cups. I was still a teen then so it was even more special watching it through a child's eyes. It was just amazing.

We will. That's just the way it is. Not to discredit you, as I don't know you, but people tend to cling onto the past too tightly, believing it's insurmountable. You say this for 2006 to 2014, and younger guys will say the same for the current world cup (which is shaping up to be my favourite so far just because of the insane number of upsets) and the same will go for the future generations saying it for 2030or something, just as older guys pick world cups in the 80s/90s as their favourite that has yet to be surpassed. I find it always best to live in the present, as you could be missing something genuinely amazing as you keep looking back. But that's just me, and as I said, it's fine if you think this way

There's just too much hair-splitting, centimeters, millimeters - all of it serving sometimes even as a prioritized resort for even a bit of an advantage. I'm not saying those things weren't present before, but in much, much less intensity. There was just more play, more fun, it was just more alive. Another part (personally) that's an issue is the time it takes place. The WC has always been a summertime thing, so that's also (again, personally) a bit odd now. Nevertheless, the thing I really like about this WC is all the (widely underestimated) African countries breaking through and getting stronger. This WC is just full of surprises and unpredictability, which adds to the excitement and tension. But also, I agree with you and the context of your take. I think a part of our love for 2006-2014 was the fact that we were young then. Teens and kids watching today's WC will surely remember the 2022 WC as a nostalgically better WC than the ones that will come when they're adults.

But the chances of it going in were so high, if not 100%, no matter who was in goal. World cup 2006 to 2014 were the best so many legends and beautiful moments, I don't think we will ever see a world cup like those sadly
