They have a FDA certification. So that’s where the “Human Grade” claim comes from.

I enjoy the information in your videos. I don’t know if it is a little late to ask, but could you review Orijen: Amazing Grains Original; and Visionary pet food, beef? I do rotate his feeding, but it is extremely difficult to find kibbles without legumes, or without meals, and I find that Orijen (grains inclusive recipes) is one of the rare ones that use good ingredients. I also add a bit of the honest kitchen broth to his food (no potatoes or legumes), and some of Native pet’s pumpkin powder (which is made of pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, and apples). I do occasionally give him fresh produce that my partner and I consume, such as apple slices, watermelon, green beans, carrots, and sometimes foods such as canned sardines (unsalted, no sauce), but we give those as treats or toppers.

You said you use dehydrated food so which one do you use. I have yet to find a food that doesn't have multiple bad items in it except raw diets but then you have to hunt to see where the meat comes from which I have found out most of them have 4 D meat. I'm curious as to what food you do recommend for dogs.

This was the 1st bad review I've heard about THK. As with any product in life there will always be AT LEAST one negative review. I'm still going to give it a try for my 10 mo old pup and see how it goes. I plan to add cooked chicken to it like we do to his current kibble. We're just not ready to go full raw. We may try adding a raw egg to start with after some more research.

Hey there, thanks for your review, it was very interesting.
I have a question: what do you mean when you say you are a nutritionist? (From what I understand it's not a protected term? And everyone seems to mean different things when they say it so I'm just curious.)

Great question! There are 2 types of Canine Nutritionist. There is a Veterinary Nutritionist, who is a DVM. And a certified Canine Nutritionist (Cert. CN). One is a vet, the other has attended schooling for Small animal nutrition. I am a cert. CN.

okay. I'm surprised because I actually use this exact food, the chicken recipe. But I always add cooked meat to it. Since I began using it, all my dogs eyes have cleared up. No more runny goopy eyes. So, isn't that an indication that the food is healthier?

human grade “not a thing”. can you please elaborate on this ? also, I enjoy your reviews as they are informative- i find there are many people sharing their opinions as authoritative resources on specific subjects who are self taught. Thankfully i watch you as you mentioned that you are “pet nutritionist”. wondering? .. was this a hard thing to become ? I know that Pet nutritionists generally require a four-year undergraduate degree in animal sciences, biological science or agricultural science- my youngest son is interested in learning more about your journey - do you recommend to obtain your undergraduate from a school that specializes in university or veterinary college. How did you go about receiving your accreditation? thanks

My dog has to have low protein due to a disease. Honest Kitchen was recommended to me by several vets and nutritionist. His disease has progressed for the better since being on it. He’s on the whole grain turkey. The only con I’ve noticed is the tartar build up on his back teeth. Which is manageable. His lab work, which consists of several panels, have been wonderful. I will say tho that when we get to a point where he has been cleared for at least 6 months we will be adding more protein the his HK food because of that carb ratio. And from what I’ve read from several sources, HK is actually human grade food. There was even a court case over it and they won. I love it for him but I know there are better options for others. The protein content of food is our concern so that’s what works for him.

You can add some whole bone to the diet to help with teeth. I'd recommend either chicken feet to eat with his meal (hardly any meat on them) or like a giant beef bone, which is considered a recreational chew that they wouldn't actually eat. Let them chew (supervised) then put away for another time.

For the record sweet potatoes are not a veggie in the same category as regular potatoes. It is in fact just another tuber more similar to carrots than potatoes. So by saying that having potatoes and sweet potatoes means they are doubling up on the potatoes you were technically incorrect. And now that makes me question some of your other comments

I've used this exact food for years and I have 3 yorkies and 3 chihuahuas. My gastritis chihuahau tolerates it with no bouts of diarrhea/vomiting and maintains her weight. The rest of my dogs all improved when I switched to this. None of them have the goopy, runny, stained eyes anymore which I love. They all maintain their weight. Only thing I like to do, though is boil meats in a lot of water so the water turns to meat juice. I then mince the meat and store the juice/minced meat in the fridge to use to hydrate the dehydrated food. Its cold so I then add hot water to make luke warm and serve as a soup consistency. All my dogs love it. I love it and there are other nutritionists who rate it highly

There is a such thing as human grade! Human grade refers to how the food is produced and not so much what is in it. They are regulated by the FDA, and their warehouses are inspected. Honestly this is not a good review, you sound very uninformed, and some of the information you shared is incorrect.

@@PadFootPomsPoodlesPals You really should stop spreading misinformation. The only inspections that are substandard in the dog food community are those completed by AAFCO. Dog food companies with FDA approval to list their products as human grade has to go thru the same sanitary inspections as facilities that package food for people. I have worked in the industry for years, I am aware of how the inspections are conduct,
