I did the math & here's the results: 1st: Carna4 (15 pts) 2nd: Orijen (12 pts) 3rd: Stella & Chewy (7 pts) 4th: Fromm & Zignature (4 pts) 5th: Taste of The Wild (2 pts)
@@martinjunior1206 Yes, I would say Carna4 is the absolute best food (besides homemade) you can get for your cat/dog. However I looked at several places & found the only place you can get it is off their website which means it's expensive. If you can't afford that I would get the next best thing. Of course consult your vet before switching foods.
As someone who works at a pet food store in Nova Scotia, it’s awesome to see someone taking steps locally to educate people on pet food. Definitely sending this to my coworkers
I love Carna4!! I put some bone broth, blueberries, and fish oil over it, and some of it I feed in his puzzle toys. HE LOVES IT!! I also rotate in a lot of raw as well :)
@@julesrandolph7910 You feed 20% less than you would regular kibble. It is totally worth it. It resolved my dog's itchy skin and coat. I use it as part of a rotation. I always have some on hand.
The reason it cost a lot is because it's actual food without fillers. Other dog foods are mostly filler and food that has been cheapened hurting its nutritional value
I have tried Carna4 and for the price. In my opinion. You shouldn't have to add anything as a topper. To be honest. My dog hates it. Eats everthing around that food. So I wasted $150. I can't even drown in liver topper. To get her to eat it. From a Puppy I have fed her Origen. She eats it. Ya some days I add toppers. Still a lot cheaper than Carna4. Recently I tried Stella and Chewy's Raw Blend. My dog actally bumps her nose on the bag. To tell me she's hungry. I put the food in the bowl, no toppers. She inhales it. So we can try and stuff what we want. Down our animals throats. But if they won't eat it plain. Whats the point in buying it? So in short. I'll never buy Carna4 again. Cause my dog doesn't like it. Origen, I would buy for sure. My dog likes it. I have a very health and trim dog, because of their food. Stella and Chewy's Raw Blend? My dog loves it. Maybe I mix it, with the 1/2 bag of Carna4 I'm stuck with. Hopefully she'll eat it. I'd love to see dog food reviews. Maybe show dogs eating the products. That they are boasting about. Cause to me, that's the most important, imho. Funny fact. Every time I drive by the Origen factory. When I'm 1/4 mile away. My girl has her upper body out the truck window. Nose in the air and smiling.
Carna4 is restoring my dogs fur with soft fur and his ears no longer have gunk in them, my dogs microbiome is waaaaaay better!!! Carna4 all the way I hope thry never cheapen it!!! Bravo carna4 👏 bravo as long as yoi never cheapen this and don't sell out you have earned a very picky customer willing to pay premium for premium
@flankman9385 farmina is actually the best in dry kibbles in my opinion lol and raw isn't for everyone but yes homemade cooked food is the best so I would suggest going full cooked diet and n&d farmina as filler for your dog
Rodney, today I made my dog the beef recipe that you and Dr. Becker made on TH-cam. I cooked it since it was the first time and mixed it with her remaining kibble to ease her into it. Needless to say, she ate every bit of the real food and left every piece of the kibble. She has spoken. There's my answer. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you for encouraging me to continue feeding homemade (easily in the slow cooker) and raw from a local company who uses local, holistic supplies only.
I feel like this video has truly helped me. Sure I'm still not 100% confident, however, I have a better chance of catching something wrong with my dogs food, than before! However, packaging test was not important to me as transfer food into an air tight container once opened. So less or lighter packaging is best for me! ❤️ Thanks!!
When we brought home a tiny 12 week old puppy a few years ago she refused to eat any commercial pet “food.” I went searching online for information on pet food. The pet food corporations provide zero information about where they source their ingredients or how those ingredients are processed. I did finally find Susan’s website and found some other interesting sites. People should take note that over the past 50 years over 60% of industry in the US has changed from being owned by individual companies to being owned by mega corporations that own multiple entities of various types of industries. These huge corporations have a huge amount of influence on just about every aspect of our lives. Most importantly, they have been able to “buy” influence in all the major political parties as well as so many other influential entities. Money IS power. It is these “special interests” who pay the majority of the expenses for major political campaigns. Illegal? No. We have laws about campaign finance contributions but then there are also the “super pacs” that can be formed that are not effected by those laws. It’s a huge hoax on the American people. We have the appearance of fair elections but the fact it that these “special interests” have been telling us who we get to vote for over the past several decades. Government agencies have gotten so huge and out of control that it is now the agencies that make the rules rather than the elected officials that supposedly protect the people. The FDA is a major offender. It is the billion dollar pet FEED industry that tells the FDA what ingredients they will approve and how processing will take place. Pet food is actually classified as feed and you better know that the livestock that you consume is nothing like the livestock that Americans consumed 50 years ago. They are now confined in filthy buildings making antibiotics, hormones, and other “medications” necessary on a regular basis. Steroids are used to bulk up the animals and slow down certain diseases. Genetically modified grains (that are banned in most other civilized countries) are fed to the livestock instead of the grass that animals once consumed NATURALLY. All these chemicals and “medications” stay in the flesh of the livestock and we and our pets consume it. You will not find a wild animal with cancer or heart disease unless it has some source of human or pet feed. If your pet itches a lot and you cannot find the source....many of the antibiotics used on livestock cause allergic reactions in dogs. Those antibiotics, along with many of the other dangerous medications, remain in the flesh of the livestock and can effect those who consume it. The commercial “food” that pet owners feed their pets have had the natural nutritional value cooked out of it. But even before that these corporations use the lowest quality ingredients. Yes, those blueberries may be in there but those are the berries that were squashed and rotting and the human food companies could not salvage. The “meat” is actually the lowest quality parts of the animal that has sat long enough to be foul. Animals that died before slaughter and diseased animals are just a couple of the horrid things approved by the FDA for pet “feed.” Other low grade organic materials are also approved. This is just one of the reasons that the ingredients must be cooked at such high temperatures. There are high quantities of harmful bacteria in those ingredients. The scam on the American people and their pets goes on and on. If you took the time to read actual proven facts on Susan’s website: truthaboutpetfood.com you would hardly believe your eyes. There are other sites available as well but Susan has taken the time to attend the actual pet food association meetings with the FDA and has the firsthand information. I began cooking food for our little puppy. It turned out she knew what was best for her because that kibble that we had tried to feed her was garbage even though it was sold as a “high quality” pet food. The pet food industry’s number one concern is the bottom line that the board of directors see. They want “feed” that can be easily transported and that can sit on a shelf in a storehouse and in the store for months and even years. Most of those synthetic vitamins and minerals used to bump up the nutritional value of this over processed garbage are processed in China. Because vitamins and minerals are not considered actual food that fact does not have to be disclosed. Most human supplements sold in the US are the same deal. Processed in China. China has the lowest paid labor force in the world (with India and other third world countries not far behind) and can under bid any western service. Much of the frozen fish sold in the US is now processed by China out on barges way out in the ocean. (Think about the human rights disaster that is) China was able to under bid and put out of business a large percentage of American fish processing plants. Our pets, just like our people, are being slowly poisoned by these huge corporations that now control the food supply. You will not hear about this in the corporate owned media which is also controlled by these “powers that be.” Corporations that own pet food companies also own multiple other types of businesses. The American people walk around in an almost totally controlled environment. It is an environment made and controlled by those at the top of the corporate ladder.
taste of the wild is a high quality dog food but states nowhere the welfare of their meat last time I checked so likely uses factory farmed chicken. You will find wild animals with cancer and heart disease but due to natural selection there isn't that many. I live in the uk not usa but we have pretty decent pet foods here and around europe. Have orijen/acana worked for you? They are the only good brand I know thats in the us, here we got yarrah, lilys kitchen, yora and bozita. www.ethicalconsumer.org/food-drink/shopping-guide/dog-food talks over issues, I don't want to feed a vegan/vegetarian diet since I eat meat and I find thats a little unfair even though its more ethical.
Ellie L. Thank You. All the info we need are out there, but people are too lazy or just give a damn. MAKE YOUR OWN DOG FOOD FHS! Slowly poisoning isn't love. Dogs can easily live 18 years and up if not given that filth. And yeah, heck, even v e g a n is so much better( I say the best) for both human and dogs. Come at me,angry know-it-all's who feed their dogs sh..t and are fine with a 6- 8 year life span for their best friends.
Totally agree with you. Since one of my babies get sick this year with kidney failure, I have read and research all I can about dry dog food. And I was shocked by what I've found! Every single thing you said is truth and is so painful to me realize that I have been poisoning and harming my beloved dogs with this shitty products. And I'm so angry at the vets I've gone all this years because the primary interest on those mf is to sell their products and give a dam about the health and life of all the animals they attend. The animal industry, since schedule of the universities until a bag of kibble, almost everything corrupt and owned by the big corporations.
I saw this video for the first time a few days ago, and I'm glad I did. My pup has been on Zignature dog food for a few years now and started off with the Salmon formula, and now she's on Kangaroo. It seems to me the formula has changed, because she's starting to scratch more and now has redness on her belly and under her arms and growing area. I don't give her any treats except for blue berries and her Joint treats from Glyde that contains shell fish. I'm taking her off Glyde to see if the shell fish is the problem and creating a yeast infection. All the vets want to do is give her pills that don't work like Apoquel. All Apoquel does is help stop the scratching, not fix the problem. I know this video is form 2019 and you mention that Orijen only has one added synthetic, (Zink). I'm looking for a new food for my pup, and don't have the time to make homemade food and considering Orijen. After further looking at their ingredients list, the list of synthetics is quite large compared to what you are claiming. Has this changed from when you first did this review? because this is a list of additives on the packaging from there original formula. , zinc proteinate, mixed tocopherols (preservative), vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, copper proteinate, dried chicory root, turmeric, sarsaparilla root, althea root, rosehips, juniper berries, citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product. I would like to see an updated video on these brands. Carna4 seems great, but very pricey for your average person. Keep up the good work!
Eh. I when I buy a bag of kibble I am not expecting a bag of blueberries or cranberries and would be more shook if that was a major ingredient. Still the salt divider is a neat trick.
Finally!! Finding a dog food is so hard to find and this helps debunk a lot of marketing scams!! I've never even heard of the salt divider.... thank you.
Prior to getting my rescue, I made the decision to feed him Freeze Dried Raw dog food, but I'm weaning him off of the dry kibble he was eating. I can't thank you enough for doing this video. I already had a bag of Orijen, but in the future, if I choose a dry kibble it will likely be Carna4.
I'm from Wisconsin and work for a pet store and I had the chance to visit the Stella and Chewey plant and let me tell you they are serious about their pet nutrition! They are so careful with their products they scan every package of food for metal contamination, they clean their machines daily, and they will tell you exactly where their ingredients come from if you ask! I highly recommend them if you're not trying to go the crazy expensive route! I will also add that Fromm has no form of customer care and used to have extremely shady business practices, they are working on it but don't be fooled!
Thanks for this information! I used to feed my dog and cat Fromm and it was NOT worth the price in my opinion. Both of my pets gained a lot of weight on it. even if I cut their portions very small. And then they’d feel hungry all the time because the portions were so small! Maybe if you have an underweight animal I’d recommend it lol. They’ve eaten all kinds of different fresh food, canned, and kibble and nothing made them pack on the pounds like Fromm.
excellent vid! I would add that Fromm's does not use any ingredients from China- so it deserve a higher ranking than Into the Wild and Zignature. Carna4 is certainly superior to Fromms, but most people I know could never even begin to be able to afford $46 for 6 lbs of food.
What I would love to see is the best of the low price brands!! I feed my dog what I can afford, mostly high end brands, but when money gets tight and I can't shell out 50 for a bag I would love to know what is good in the lower price range. I do supplement her food with raw human food, and after your video I'll be making sure she gets some raw veggies and fruit in her dinner bowel.
I use Rachael Ray Nutrish Dish, Dogs love it and the ingredients are pretty solid. $26 for a 14lb bag I believe Last 2 30lb dogs about 2 weeks. Get it at wal-mart.
Thank you for breaking this all down. I actually learned a lot from this video that I'll now use to educate friends & family!! My miniature dachshund was on Fromm as a puppy, but he stopped eating it & that's when I made the switch to Orijen. So glad I did!! The expensive dog food is very worth it, especially for a smaller dog like him!
Ever since I’ve began feeding my pups ( 4 years ago) , chicken, gizzards, pork, also, I stem them in water , & a Lytle virgin coconut oil, my dogs have been and looking so good, healthier pups , big dif.
THANK YOU so much for clarifying which foods were THE best for my dogs. It always seemed like a mystery. Glad to know Orijen is the real deal. Aweseome. Please make more videos going in depth on the REAL nutrition of dog food and dog food brands. :) Subscribed.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS REVIEW!! Rachel Fusaro recommended you and I'm so glad she did 💖, we are about to get our first puppy in a few weeks and we have spenT HOURS on line researching and trying to learn as much as we can, your videos are fun and educational - LOVE THEM. I want to learn more about raw food and again I can't say how glad I am to have found your Channel..KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! 🦾
Thank you, it has concerned me that so many pets are dying less than their ideal age. Eye opening review, never thought much about the packaging or the extras added other than first ingredients was meat.
I came here to watch which dog food was healthier for dogs.... ended up watching someone do a bunch of failed experiments and dog foods getting dragged by a car.... is this real life? What am I watching?
A raw diet is the BEST option for dogs. You should check out the documentary 'PET FOOLED' on Netflix - it is shocking what companies put in pet food. It is our responsibility as owners to ensure that our pets are healthy and happy.
Getting new rescue dog. Researching foods for her. Thought of raw food diet, in fact had decided on it until I researched more and found the level of instances of listeria, ecoli, salmonella, all of which can easily be transferred to humans. More research needed.
@@philarnold3421 If you get a frozen formula the risk is super low because they are frozen to such temperatures it kills most bacteria. I think homemade raw food can be risky due to human error in handling it, but food packaged by brands is generally really safe, or else they wouldn't risk selling it. I used to sell pet food and I always fed my cat frozen raw and never had a issue nor did I have customers experience issues with bacteria. I always just thawed her food in designated tupperware in my fridge, and washed my hands after feeding her. Problem with buying it from a store is the cost, so sometimes only having a percentage of the diet be raw is better for cost. What I've found to be the biggest difference between brands is the meat to produce content, and it depends on your dog which one will work best. Overall the enzymes in raw meat and bones are better for dog and cat teeth than even brushing, and it will save you major money in dental bills. Additionally a high moisture diet helps digestion and kidney function, also saving vet bills in the long run. Some of my favourite brands are Vital Essentials, Instinct, and Tucker's, but there are many out there! In all the time I sold pet food I never had a recall with those brands (while there were even major kibble recalls). There are always risks, but it ended up being cheaper and easier feeding my cat and if it's something you're considering check out a pet store near you that sells raw and they'll be able to answer questions. (I've found most "holistic" pet stores do.
Yes, but you have to find a balance on what works. I tried it for 1 week in the middle of Summer in Texas last year with 3 dogs and I was overwhelmed with diarrhea and vomiting and disinfecting cleaning sessions 😩 I went to dry food.
carna4 seems good, but some of their ingredients are things that aren't so great for dogs (lentils, peas, potato starch). still, i'm intrigued and want to know more... time to do my own research on it XD
For those of us who cannot feed raw food to their pet (for me, it's a public access thing, my service dog wouldnt be able to come to the hospital with me as I can't bring raw food inside the hospital) it's important to know what our kibble is made of! This is why I choose Champion pet foods, not only because they are meat based, they provide information on where their ingredients are sourced and how their meat is produced, but because they also use real foods!
gloria c I can’t afford to feed a 55 lb dog a pound a day from Stella and chewy frozen raw and primal frozen raw which is what is required. The 6lb bag lasts less than a week let’s be real.
@@Johnysmithapple raw food is one of those things where if you have more time than money, it's better to do it yourself. Even if your dog gets one raw item, like a chicken thigh or a Turkey neck, once a week they are better for it. It's kinda like eating a salad, just because you dont eat a salad every day doesnt mean you should NEVER eat salad. My service dog is 55lbs as well, and because of the nature of her work she cant be on a completely raw diet. If I go into hospital I need her with me, and I cant bring raw food into a hospital. Whatever you decide to feed your dog the most important thing I'd that you make an informed choice. Dont just pick a brand because someone recommended it, or because you saw a commercial, do some research on where ingredients are sourced, how the food is made and where, what additives they use. Wheb I look at my own diet there are lots of healthy things I eat that are processed, and dog food can be healthy too, not everything has to be fresh. but some fresh food is better than none at all :)
I was gonna ask if you thought about freeze-dried/dehydrated raw food, since you couldn't take raw into a hospital and because it would only require you to add water to the food but you made a valid point that even on kibble any bit of raw supplemented to the diet benefits the dog.
Y'all are doing and incredible job, i change my dog diet of just kibbles for homemade food and just 1/5 of kibbles per meal after watching the documentary "PET FOOLED "
I fed my dog a high quality kibble starting at the age of 7 years old. He lived to be 16 years old. I began incorporating raw food the last two years and he thrived. I lost him to Cushing’a Disease 3 years after raw feeding. I wish I would have started sooner.
AMAZING WORK. SO ENLIGHTENED NOW!!! Standing ovation and a big THANK YOU!!! PS: No better way to endorse & validate your video using the 3 ladies at the end! So so so thankful I saw this video. My dog King is going to be happy!!
Sadly, Orijen’s formula has changed, and seemingly not for the better. A lot of the goodness is now listed behind salt. Further, they no longer claim 15% fruits and vegetables on the label, presumably because they can’t.. nearly all fruits and vegetables are now listed behind salt, leaving me to question the complete nutritional value of this product. The Orijen puppy formula ingredient list as of February 2022 is now as follows: Chicken, turkey, turkey giblets (liver, heart, gizzard), flounder, whole mackerel, eggs, chicken liver, whole herring, dehydrated chicken, dehydrated turkey, dehydrated mackerel, dehydrated chicken liver, dehydrated egg, whole red lentils, whole pinto beans, whole peas, chicken fat, lentil fiber, pollock oil, whole green lentils, whole navy beans, natural chicken flavor, whole chickpeas, pea starch, chicken heart, SALT, whole pumpkin, whole butternut squash, collard greens, whole pears, whole apples, whole cranberries, dried kelp, zinc proteinate, mixed tocopherols (preservative), thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, vitamin E supplement, copper proteinate, dried chicory root, turmeric, sarsaparilla root, althea root, rosehips, juniper berries, citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product. As you can see, it’s still a great kibble for protein. In my case, I may elect to continue with Orijen and supplement with raw fruits and veggies. It would be interesting to see a comparison video of the old formula to to new. Source: www.orijenpetfoods.com/en-US/dogs/dog-food/puppy/ds-ori-puppy.html
When you’re out there looking for dog food, the easiest way is to look at the ingredient list. Look for a minimum of 28% raw-protein and a minimum of 17% raw-fat. And of course the smaller the additives list is the better. This means that the less additives the better quality the main source of foods was.
Wow, that was awesome. Thank you for informing us. I learned about the salt divider last year when my dog came up with a tumor. I suppose my weakness is making sure there are few synthetic vitamins.
You wouldnt want to mix kibble with raw food .. because kibble and raw food digest definitely.. causing your furry friend to have a stomach ache or diarrhea..
I'm so happy to see that orijen ranked so highly, we just swapped our two kitties onto them after we suspected one of them had developed a poultry allergy. (Which sadly wasn't the case and we are still working on finding the cause) but it is nice to know we are feeding our babies a truly good food that isnt trying to pull the wool over our eyes
These videos are so well made, very entertaining, and extremely informative! Raw feeder here (mainly due to your videos by the way), and I really appreciate the time you put into these videos...Keep up the great work! (My dog thanks you as well) :)
I feed my dog Orijen now. But I think I’m going to start feeding raw. Just tired of all the bs smoke and mirrors with this dog food. Most likely cheaper too.
This was great!! I learned so much. The presentation was geared for the layman to understand. Just sorry Rodney did not view the brand my vet recommended - Purina Pro-plan. It sounds like Origin or Carna 4 are the best brand. I will be switching. Lastly, the bag test was a waste of time. If the ingredients are good, who cares about the bag. Use some other container when you get home. All in all. This video was very informative, especially the "salt divide".
Wow. Carna4 is $60 for 2.2 lbs. Really. It’s no wonder why we feed our dogs affordable kibble. ! For my 100 lbs dogs I can’t afford that or raw!!! This is Reality and we do the best we can and hope for the best
Honestly you are better off feeding from the big brands that can hire veterinary nutritionists and run food trials. Many of these boutique brands play heavily on fear-based and inaccurate ideology of pet nutrition. When push comes to shove- the big five dogs are not dying of DCM.
if you order a big box of Honest Kitchen from amazon & buy a fat pack of Bonelss skinless chicken at the store .... You would be feeding a much higher ,completely safe heathy food to your dogs. .... Ive figured out the math after 15 years buying cans & bags of dog food ........ Knowing my dog is eatinG Safe healthy food is more important than The Convenicence of opening a can or bag & dumping some down for him. Honest Kitchen, Mix it up with warm water stir, Cook up some plain meat, chop it up & dump it in. Put several servings in a ziplok bad so thru the week just take one out a few hours early or that morning or hatever so it isnt frozen.
My furbaby Lilly and I loved the Farmina Mini Natural and Delicious chicken and pomegranate recipe (with grains). She lived to be a healthy 18 yrs. old. Lilly was my world. My Babygirl...and will forever be in my heart. ♥️Lilly F.♥️ July 21, 2003-July 27, 2021.
Thank you. I only feed Carna4 now. My puppy was always puking and not really interested in kibble. After SLOWLY switching to Carna4. My dog now eats regularly and reallly enjoys her food. And have not puked in a long time.
Wow, I knew most kibble was trash dog food and thought I was reading the ingredients properly to try and make sure I was doing right by my pup. Well I never understood what I was looking at until you broke it down, thank you! Just realised I'm paying $50 for a 10lbs bag of complete garbage! 🤦 Time to change our diet.
Kayluh Marie Raw is the way! Sounds gross but it’s not. I buy already processes, looks just like dog food. I use Primal brand. I belong to a holistic dog care group on FB. Natural Path Yorkies, though you don’t need to have a Yorkie to belong.
Good information there. I feed my dogs with Bosch. Went straight to look at the composition and happy to see its good Additives: Antioxidants Composition: Poultry protein (dried, 17.5 %), barley, maize, sorghum, rice, poultry fat, fish meal (4 %), potato flour (4 %), dried beet pulp (sugar removed), hydrolysed protein, pork protein (dried), millet, yeast (dried, 0.1 % mannanoligo saccharides, 0.06 % beta-glucans), peas (dried), fish oil, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, green-lipped mussel extract (0.1 %), chicory (dried).
I wouldn't really say it's that good. Only 21.5% meat (+less than 4% pork protein) and it just says "poultry", doesn't specify if it's duck, goose, turkey, chicken etc. Maize is a low quality ingredient that has high risk of allergy.
Your reviews and grading system should also include the number of recalls. Stella and chewy has had numerous recalls. I believe taste of wild has also.
I was online watching videos trying to get info on the best freeze dried raw food to feed my precious French Bulldog Willow, my baby girl is my life and I want to give her only the best after all she has given me I feel like it's the very least I can do for my beloved girl! Anyway I caught your video and was shocked and disgusted by all these kibble companies "HOO-DOOIN" Pet parents and killing our pets! Thank you for shinning the light on these companies! I only feed my girl fresh frozen raw food! These kibble companies so need to be held accountable, my baby girl is my family and I know there are millions of pet parents out there just like me who are so sick and tired of the pet food industry not giving a Damm about the health of our beloved pets
Thanks for the info. Really learned something new today. There're things I didn't know and really appreciated for pointing them out. I've gone through 3 of the dry food on your list Formm, taste of the wild and orijin. Apart from Orijin, my dog really didn't like the rest of them. I'm buying her Aatu for a while and she seems to be ok with them. Would be great if you do a review on them.
The perfect food is homemade, easy and cheaper than these fancy kibbke, the recipe is as follows, in order of largest quantity; Canned pure pumpkin, canned chickpeas (low sodium and rinsed several times in colander) then about equal amounts, grated raw carrot, eggs "scrambled" (in the microwave so as not to need oil or butter) followed by meat from the household dinner ( rinsed) or some decent quality wetfood....that's it, sometimes some other veggies or fruits that are are in the fridge added in small amounts, and generally looked up quick first.... if you need to know calorie count just add it up from the nutritional panels as you go ..... Dogs are not meant to digest corn., soy, wheat, or rice flour, and those will always the base of kibble , they are the cheapest. They are the base for manny human processed foods , we eat to much of them too.. When my dog ate kibble for only a few days there was a noticeable change. It was the same as if a healthy human suddenly only ate Fast food. He had less energy, inconsistent bowel movements. Sometimes diarrhea, sometimes constipated stools. He didnt feel "good" after eating, had a couple accidents in the house. It was such a stark realization he was suddenly a miserable, average north American diet, ibs, human.... it was awful... Please try this recipe, considerable research went into it. I make a batch every several days so it at least keeps for 4 days in a 40 f temp fridge.....
Just switched my puppy to Carna4 a few days ago after watching a few reviews. I'm happy she's eating the best quality kibble out there! It's expensive but it's worth it. I'd rather have her eat healthy food that's expensive than have health complications that'll cost me more money later down the road from feeding her unhealthy food.
@@luciamoncada3442 I had to switch to Orijen (second best food in my opinion) because my dog wasn’t digesting Carna4’s properly. The kibble was still in her poop, she ate it so damn fast cuz she loved it. So I started to blend it up and put water it in but she still wasn’t digesting it properly. Not sure why, gonna figure that out when she has her next vet appointment. But I still recommend it cuz she devoured it so fast.
I love all the great tests you have done to educate pet parents. It is clear that our dogs deserve more attention in regards of their diet! Now I understand it way better!! Thank you so much.
I saw this 2 years ago when we got our first puppy. I went all in on Carna4. Overall, great choice. My first puppy is very healthy, lean, and has no skin issues. We then fostered and later adopted puppy #2. He came to us on Purina and had really bad dandruff on his lower back. Vet told us to do lots of special baths but loves the Purina Pro Plan. Also has "never heard of Carna4". Bro... what!? I've been awakened to misinformed Vets through Rodney's channel. So I continued on our path and switched Puppy #2 to Carna4, also. 1 month later - NO DANDRUFF. We're shocked. No special shampoos or baths. Nothing, just swapped the food. It's unreal.
Well i will be looking for better dog food for my Ruby. We recently started the Gentle Giants dog food and for the most part I think its a decent dog food. It does not have corn or wheat in the top ingredients.
Thanks so much for the review. I did my research 12 years ago when I first got my puppy. Then I chosed Orijen. Recently I switched to freeze dried raw food. please do a review on raw if your team could. Thank you!
Great video! I applaud your efforts in trying to find the best pet foods. About 10 years ago, one of my two (then) young dogs started obsessing with his kibble (pushing his bowl around and whining). I'm not sure what kind of kibble I was using and I realized I didn't know a lot about pet foods and how to evaluate them. So I started researching on the internet to educate myself on canine nutrition, hoping to learn things that would teach me how to evaluate pet foods. During my search I learned to easily identify sponsored studies and those who were flogging particular brands. It took me several weeks but with my new-found knowledge (admittedly basic), I focussed on Orijen Regional Red. So I switched to that brand, even though it was more expensive than most others. Coincidentally during my search, I found a large number of independent sites (a large number of kennels and breeders that were more concerned with canine health than marketing certain brands of dog food) that were recommending a raw meat diet. I was intrigued enough to continue my research and found that there was a lot of information on raw food diets. Among many things I learned is that veterinary practitioners don't really know a lot about canine nutrition. I have since confirmed this with the five veterinarians with whom I have a close and trusted relationship. All except one were skeptical about raw meat diets but admitted they did not have a lot of training on the topic. The one exception was intrigued and constantly asked questions about my findings. She even referred me to a nearby veterinary college that had some canine nutritionists that had some interest in the topic. Ultimately, and several months after switching to Orijen, I made the change to a Prey Model Raw diet. I've been doing this with four dogs for just under ten years. I'm not fanatical about it except that one decides to go this route, they should do their research to find the correct proportions of meat, bone, organ and liver as well a provide a variety of different types of meats. I supplement only with canine glucosamine, pure, wild, salmon oil and raw eggs in the shell (amounts of each according to size of the dog). I especially liked your suggestion for reading "below the 1% salt level" when assessing the ingredients on a dog food container. As far as your testing on the durability of the containers? Not especially helpful or significant to me - Kindly take this last as constructive feedback. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Aren’t a couple of those brands now listed as the brands cited by veterinarians as causing heart failure in dogs? Edit:Those tests are totally bogus, agreed.
Deborah The FDA has taken the highly unusual step of issuing a warning concerning 16 brands of dog food, several of which were named in this video. And I bet that the owners of the dogs in question don’t think in terms of “actually only” as they are effected 100%. These are the reported cases. No one knows the true scope. Until this deadly allegation is better understood and resolved, I’ll err on the side of safety for my dog.
What most people do not know is that last year purrena tried to buy the makers of Arcana and orejen and shortly after this happened, I still use orejen and all my dogs are super healthy , but my dogs are well exercised and only given natural treats , there are more then one factor to heart health
@@KarenLSilva That's true. Trooper used to pee every 15 minutes. Now, he can last for 5 hrs (he's just 5 months old). I figured the dog food she used to eat didn't make him feel nice. He also used to have an odd smell. Now, he smells like a baby. He only needs a bath when he's super dirty from playing outside (JRTs are crazy during play time). For my cat Mao, he used to be extremely skittish from canned cat food. When we switched him to raw food, he became calm and super friendly. And his coat is absolutely amazing! I've had multiple cats and dogs thru the years, and raw foods are tried and tested. It simply is the best food for any cat or dog.
Couldn't agree more !! However after my dog was diagnosed with pancreatitis I was forced to feed him home cooked ...how I wish I can switch him back to raw diet ! He have scabs all over his body and I am still battle with his skin problems . When he is on raw diet his skin and fur look so shinny and beautiful and he had so much energy .Now I wonder if I can switch him back to raw ...I am scared 🙄
Chucky Yuk, yeah, don’t listen to people on the internet please. You might want to still feed raw, but go to a good vet and ask if that would be okay. Don’t just start feeding raw again, just because his coat looked better.
Absolutely every source I’ve investigated says something completely different about every food I could cry im so lost
Same, I have been using fromm for all three of my pets because i figured premium dog/cat food had no wrong. It's so confusingly overwhelming.
me too. im very stressed and so anxious about my puppy getting ill (since hes a sdit he has to be practically perfect yk)
Try Raw
right!? It’s so confusing I went to two different vets and they told me completely different things I dont know what to believe anymore
ALL KIBBLE IS BAD-ALL REAL WHOLE RAW FOOD IS GOOD...VERY SIMPLE, GO FROM THAT POINT INTO ALL FOODS FOR DOGS CATS AND HUMANS...PERIOD
I did the math & here's the results:
1st: Carna4 (15 pts)
2nd: Orijen (12 pts)
3rd: Stella & Chewy (7 pts)
4th: Fromm & Zignature (4 pts)
5th: Taste of The Wild (2 pts)
So carna4 is the best one?
@@martinjunior1206 Yes, I would say Carna4 is the absolute best food (besides homemade) you can get for your cat/dog. However I looked at several places & found the only place you can get it is off their website which means it's expensive. If you can't afford that I would get the next best thing. Of course consult your vet before switching foods.
@@TheEmodarkangel19
Yea I'll try that. Maybe this time he won't eat the cat food if I give that to him
@@martinjunior1206 Ziwi Peak is also up there!
Thank you 😊
There should’ve been the overall scores at the end.
You can check the Facebook group out for the full results
Or you could back to 10:46...and do a little arithmetic.
Carna4 I believe won
Carni4 wins by 1 point over orijen without adding the useless bag durability test

As someone who works at a pet food store in Nova Scotia, it’s awesome to see someone taking steps locally to educate people on pet food. Definitely sending this to my coworkers
Wow, the salt divider was very eye opening.
From what I've learned, the first 5 ingredients is about 85% of the food. So, that, in addition to the salt divide is really helpful to me.
It doesn't really taste salty to me. Maybe I'm just used to using tons of salt in my own (human) diet.
It’s the same as human creams and lotions and mixed food and drinks
now look at the label when they say stuff is made with olive oil - LOL
I swear by it now. I saw this video a year ago and to this day I use the salt divider.
I'm going insane with all these reviews. I'm more confused then ever
Totally
all kibble is bad-that makes it very simple-raw frozen is the way to go
In summary: kibble is crap. convenience comes at a big price.
my dog got very sick from eating raw food, it costed me 170 dollar vet bill.
Jenny rodriguez-fito that’s exactly why I wouldn’t feed a dog raw. As a treat it’s ok.
I feel even better now for choosing Carna4 over a year ago for my Westie! Thanks 👍🏼
I love Carna4!! I put some bone broth, blueberries, and fish oil over it, and some of it I feed in his puzzle toys. HE LOVES IT!! I also rotate in a lot of raw as well :)
too bad it's like 150 a bag
Would love to see an update on this for 2024. So many companies have been bought since this video, and recipes have changed for some.
Here’s the update; all kibble is trash and if it isn’t it will soon be trash so you’re better off going raw or cooking for your dog.
@flankman9385 farmina is actually the best in dry kibbles in my opinion lol and raw isn't for everyone but yes homemade cooked food is the best so I would suggest going full cooked diet and n&d farmina as filler for your dog
Orijen has since been bought out and now is using synthetics
I love how you're talking about the vitamin mixes! Absolutely correct my friend. (I work in a vitamin premix mill)
She will be even happier if you let her eat it raw :-)
Thank you for encouraging me to continue feeding homemade (easily in the slow cooker) and raw from a local company who uses local, holistic supplies only.
Wow, the "salt divider" test is a game changer.

The salt divider has me shook
Eh. I when I buy a bag of kibble I am not expecting a bag of blueberries or cranberries and would be more shook if that was a major ingredient.
Still the salt divider is a neat trick.

It is encouraging to see some innovative dog foods coming out of Wi. :)

A raw diet is the BEST option for dogs.
You should check out the documentary 'PET FOOLED' on Netflix - it is shocking what companies put in pet food. It is our responsibility as owners to ensure that our pets are healthy and happy.
Agreed.
Raw food ain't perfect they've had problems with those diets too. It's not a one size fits all.
You can get a premade raw diet...way better than any kibble on the market
gloria c I can’t afford to feed a 55 lb dog a pound a day from Stella and chewy frozen raw and primal frozen raw which is what is required.
The quality of the video is incredible for a “small” channel, very informative.

The Orijen puppy formula ingredient list as of February 2022 is now as follows:

My dog loves Lettuce combine with homecook rice so much!
Oh my! Your effort and research was brilliant! This is the information every dog lover needs to know! Thank you so much!
Just awesome! Never knew about after salt. Well done. Thank you, you got another subscriber.
I'd like to see a review for Nulo, Open Farm, Ziwi Peak in the future :)
Love Nulo!
Hahaha I liked when you pushed the kibble off the table and LOL @8:55
And You bought those Betty Crocker Chip Bag Closer things from that Dollarama in the background, eh?
That salt divider is good info. Thanks
Can you make a video on reviewing the Instinct Raw Boost kibble, kibble mix with raw, and 100% raw diet?
You wouldnt want to mix kibble with raw food .. because kibble and raw food digest definitely.. causing your furry friend to have a stomach ache or diarrhea..
niklaus !!!!! This is false! You absolutely CAN mix raw and kibble and it’s a great benefit to a kibble fed dog!
niklaus !!!!! This is false! You absolutely CAN mix raw and kibble and it’s a great benefit to a kibble fed dog!
100% raw is always the best.
@@Trashcankicker. He means the instinct raw boost kibble no real raw meat...freeze dried pieces of meat put in the bag of kibble

Unfortunately Orijen opened up some branches in the U.S., so...
Also was acquired by Mars. Watch future ingredient labels!!
Love this channel me and my partner are getting a dog in the new year 🐶 and wanted to find some helpful videos. Knowledge is power
WOW!!! THANK YOU! I'm now going to be WAY MORE diligent. I just wish Carna4 was sold in the U.S.....
I've been feeding my dog the expensive solid gold, after this review I see it's all synthetic!!
Oooh thanks for making this video. I have a four month husky pup and have been driving myself crazy about which brand to feed her. Now I know. Thanks!
I have a Husky too. Look into Visionary Pet. It's raw freeze-dry and it's not horribly expensive. They often have discounts .
Thank you for teaching me the salt divider test! Awesome video. By the way, 8:52, you got me. I'm laughin'.
Thank you Rodney, carna4 is not a popular choice where I live but since trying it I'm a big believer in it
Then you can’t afford the dog
@@elizabethziegler9841 Trading DCM for cancer isn't a good solution either.
The YoPancake Show well stop slurping down big macs . The money saved there can be used to feed your dog and yourself a healthy meal.
My furbaby Lilly and I loved the Farmina Mini Natural and Delicious chicken and pomegranate recipe (with grains). She lived to be a healthy 18 yrs. old. Lilly was my world. My Babygirl...and will forever be in my heart.

Thanks for posting this important video. Taste Of The Wild has the best looking graphics which explains its success -- I guess.

Itzpayday 123, yup. They’re always there, preaching about how great raw is, even though dogs can definitely get a lot of issues from raw food as well
Great ad. Networking it!!
Great data, Great alerting people to save pets!!
Great video!! Love you guys!! I would love to see an OPEN FARM review next
Good information there. I feed my dogs with Bosch. Went straight to look at the composition and happy to see its good
Additives:
Antioxidants
Composition:
Poultry protein (dried, 17.5 %), barley, maize, sorghum, rice, poultry fat, fish meal (4 %), potato flour (4 %), dried beet pulp (sugar removed), hydrolysed protein, pork protein (dried), millet, yeast (dried, 0.1 % mannanoligo saccharides, 0.06 % beta-glucans), peas (dried), fish oil, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, green-lipped mussel extract (0.1 %), chicory (dried).
@Aleisha Ibbetson Hi 👋
Thank you so much for this! This seals the deal on this brand that I already researched for my Boston PUP!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the salt divider test. It’s very eye opening.
Btw, would you pls review Instict? Thank you
I was so shocked by your report. I’m now going to look at my dog food.
The perfect food is homemade, easy and cheaper than these fancy kibbke, the recipe is as follows, in order of largest quantity;
Canned pure pumpkin, canned chickpeas (low sodium and rinsed several times in colander) then about equal amounts, grated raw carrot, eggs "scrambled" (in the microwave so as not to need oil or butter) followed by meat from the household dinner ( rinsed) or some decent quality wetfood....that's it, sometimes some other veggies or fruits that are are in the fridge added in small amounts, and generally looked up quick first.... if you need to know calorie count just add it up from the nutritional panels as you go .....
Dogs are not meant to digest corn., soy, wheat, or rice flour, and those will always the base of kibble , they are the cheapest. They are the base for manny human processed foods , we eat to much of them too..
When my dog ate kibble for only a few days there was a noticeable change.
It was the same as if a healthy human suddenly only ate
Fast food.
Where did you find it?
I’m buying carna4 too
@@suzieurueta6357 Amazon and then I found a store in my area that was selling it.
@@PurelyTiffany ok thank you :)
I would love to see a review and comparison on kibble vs fresh cooked food such as open farm or home made.
I love all the great tests you have done to educate pet parents. It is clear that our dogs deserve more attention in regards of their diet! Now I understand it way better!! Thank you so much.
The TH-camr is like “the best dog food? Well hire a chef please”
What do you think of supreme sauce dry dog food
Just wondering if giving digestive enzymes might help to digest the food up better?
Yeah

Thanks so much for the review. I did my research 12 years ago when I first got my puppy. Then I chosed Orijen. Recently I switched to freeze dried raw food. please do a review on raw if your team could. Thank you!
Incredible and valuable info. Thank you so much for this! Changing to Orijen today!
@Johnnie Joey Caraballo
I switched to Orijen 2 weeks ago and noticed a change in my dog's coat and running speed. Did you stay with Orijen?
Thanks.
I will never use Facebook, Instagram or Tweet something, so where else do you provide this information? I do however use TH-cam.
An actual helpful video for deciding what to buy your pets.
May God bless you for eternity
Aren’t a couple of those brands now listed as the brands cited by veterinarians as causing heart failure in dogs? Edit:Those tests are totally bogus, agreed.
Actually only 56 dogs in the U.S. have experienced heart failure from these foods. That's a almost 0 %.
Diane Taylor keep feeding them that Purina good stuff
Jim Beam Sorry, you don’t know me.
What most people do not know is that last year purrena tried to buy the makers of Arcana and orejen and shortly after this happened, I still use orejen and all my dogs are super healthy , but my dogs are well exercised and only given natural treats , there are more then one factor to heart health
wow finally some honesty!!!!! thank you soo much

I have tried all these premium kibbles. Nothing compares to raw food for cats and dogs. They are happier and healthier. 😁❤️
@@KarenLSilva Super shiny. Smooth coats also don't shed much anymore. My JRT is loving the raw diet. It really shows. 😁
