      Along with my deep appreciation, Mr. President, for your speaking up, 2 questions, as the spirit moves you:
      1) If men act (tragically all too often) as you say they do, have you a sense why that is, beyond your concluding words: "“In general, men don’t give a damn”? Do you TRULY believe that about your "brothers"? In asking this question, I not only recognize that you speak of your self as a Christian but that the Bible is not simply filled with accounts of possession ("What gripped", "came over"... "got into me!" we find ourselves saying?), but does the Bible not speak of how those "possessed" suffer no less? Can one not imagine? My point...
      2) Do men not only need to learn, learn how to protect women but might women not also be "called upon" to learn how to protect men, their fathers, husbands, sons, BROTHERS from those "Powers" that would use them (men) in order to abuse the women in their life / that would abuse men and in order to use those same women?
      Are these words clear? I ask for they would offer a glimpse of the real "real world." www.concord-ium.us/mens-liberation >. With thanks, Mr. President, brothers and sisters for your consideration.

That said: Hearing Carter in this TED Talk, even my jaded heart sees the value in his empathetic rhetoric. And he seems more likable, then say, Bernie. Could you imagine Carter vs. Trump 2020? What a ride :)

    • @j.macjordan9779

      @@GARY84ROCKS - Carter v Trump 2020...honestly, at this point, nothing would surprise me. I think that would be a bit tame compared to the spectacle that will likely be unleashed the very day after midterms.
      I don't know if Jesse Ventura made good on his word to stay in Mexico even more during the year, but an Independent ex-SEAL/Professional Wrestler/Movie Star/Governor/TV Star turned Conspiracy Theorist and recluse in Mexico - that would certainly be an apt ingredient of the full blown Bonanza we can expect to see in 2020.
      You could have Trump v Ventura v Hillary, where Hillary is handily destroyed because it turns out she's literally a major criminal, and the deciding factor for President boils down not to a debate, but an agreed Wrestling match between a Coke and whiskey fueled Trump and a 25 yr prior steroid built Ventura.
      If you were to videotape it; travel back to the 80s or so, show the people the video and warn of the direction of American politics, you would instantly be seen as a raving lunatic, locked up, and forced to watch the spectacle unfold from a heavily tranquilized mental state; and, the video you brought back not being long gone, instead a major trending video on TH-cam, & still too unbelievable to stop anything in spite of it containing accurate and specific prediction after prediction. That's 2020 - we can probably expect to see your decades old video rise on TH-cam any day now...I assume there's some type of temporal paradox running alongside everything that's going on too...even that's not outside the realm of reason today....lol.

    Thankyou President Jimmy Carter. Personally I believe the majority of men do not care because they are not held accountable. Especially here in U.S. Violent crimes against women and children seems to be a Taboo subject. Furthermore, sentencing preps recieve less time than drug dealers. I think that if early education on equality should be mandatory in all education systems. You are correct about men not listening. Women deserve the same rights. Perhaps the world would be better if more women held office. Women are by nature more sensation and nurturing. Thankyou and Aloha! ♡

That's like saying that whenever someone points to slavery as being an atrocious human rights violation that scars the nation's history, they're devaluing the suffering of native Americans, or saying that black people's suffering is worse than anyone else's. Or, when someone points to the inhumane conditions that chickens raised in factory farms exist in, that person is devaluing and ignoring the suffering of pigs and cattle! Do you understand the difference between discussing the suffering of one specific group and the claim that only one specific group suffers?

      Additionally, many of the comments here are criticizing this for its over-reliance on religious texts, asserting that men's issues aren't as important or relevant, and using points about under-developed countries to draw conclusions on society in developed countries. None of them are saying that the issues are a good thing, or that they don't matter. Rather, they're criticizing his narrative and the way he delivers his flawed message.

Listened to Jimmy's essay. One more time, almost cried about this guy being a fine person, with integrity, and wanting to really do good, for no selfish reason.
    (Also, Gregg Allman's autobiography has a great little passage about the band spacing out and showing up to late for the Georgia Governor/presidential candidate's gala thing, where they were supposed to perform. Jimmy was cool, they sat around on the front porch, Jimmy barefoot, and just passed a home-rolled around instead.)

    Here is a human being who has the wisdom and the courage to hold up the mirror into the faces of abusive men.......of course they don`t like it.......but it gives them the chance to change their ways and begin to understand the real meaning of justice and fairness amongst all human beings. Thank you Jimmy Carter. Your courageous understanding of love is an inspiration to me and hopefully millions of other men, who do care about the real meaning of manhood......what kind of men are we if we try to dominate and control-. That suggests unbelievable weakness within. Mr. Carter is right: Above all else, it`s time for men to stand up for women and children everywhere across the globe. What is happening is a terrible tragedy !!!!! How can we watch this and sit and do nothing about it......how can we live with ourselves without compassion for the oppressed? I believe that most men have the capacity to care and stand up for women and children. The opportunities are right in front of our noses on a daily basis.

    This man brought through more of his initiatives in one term than ANY other president and practically all of them had two rounds. As I have read from another commenter on another Carter related video (and I really could not tell it better than he did). Carter was brutally honest and told the American people the hard truths. Reagen told them what they wanted to hear. He had initiatives ready in 1976 when he became aware of where climate change issues were heading, that mirror agreed upon initiatives in the Paris Climate Accord almost 40 years later. Calling him a failed president is actively denying truth. This man is a friggin saint exactly because he knows that he is none and he is aware of his human flaws and openly admits them and works on them. There are people that make the world a better place when they leave it, as hard as that may seem. But the day he will travel further, this world will be a darker place for it ...

    I agree with Jimmy Cater. There are many very important issues facing the human family. However, most are directly connected with our past 8000 years of history which began with the Patriarchial drive for power over others. This is particularly directed at women and children who still struggle for rights in our world.
    This is not a dualistic either or it is a both and situation and most of our issues of violence, fundamentalism, abuse of human rights, women and children are rooted in the Patriarchial Society we have inherited.
    Well done Jimmy

      I believe you are misunderstanding something. Patriarchy is a system where the elder more experienced individuals in a small society make decisions. Usually men would be the most influential (due to experience gathered over a life time) but women were not excluded from the decision process.
      Egalitarian/matriarchal societies have never existed though ours is coming closer to be an egalitarian.

    I am deeply saddened by the comments. Let me just say one thing, give me that chance. We are all equal, we deserve equal opportunities, and the same treatment. Men, I am not saying that your struggle is easier than that of women's. Have women been treated as "less than" throughout history? Of course, you can't deny that. Are some still treated that way? Yes, unfortunately. But this is not to say that men have not struggled either. I can understand why men see these arguments as offensive, you've also been dealt a hard card. You have your struggles, your social injustices, but because you're men it tends to be ignored. That sucks. This is not a war of men vs women. This is not a contest of "Who has had it harder" It's time we grow up. Instead of saying "feminist crap" or "boo hoo women" or "yeah men suck" or "men have it so easy" Let us acknowledge that both genders, that ALL humans have struggles, pain, heartache. These problems are not limited to one gender, but all genders. In the argument of sexual assault and rape for example, a lot of times women are the victims, the statistics say it. But men suffer from it too. I was molested and raped as a child, but a close male friend of mine also was. We were both 4. Does that mean that I deserve more sympathy than him because I am a woman? No! It means that there is a problem that affects everyone! "A house divided cannot stand" Abraham Lincoln said that. We can no longer stand to be divided. It's time we stand up together. That we recognize that all of us have problems. We cannot continue to push blame and point fingers. We need to grow up and instead do something to fix the problems. Thanks.

    Such a blessing. Thank you! I can only speak for myself. Because this is happening to me, it's happening to other women. I am not being paid for any of my work, but others are making money from my work. In exchange, I receive insults by many who hate me. I don't feel like I am competing with men or women. Doesn't phase me. I actually think many men can be hurt easier than women. Men tend to keep a lot to themselves. Many people are evil to their core and I don't have time for people like that.
    I have been abused by men and women on TH-cam, yet I always rise above the issues at hand. People assume that I can handle abuse and don't understand that it is prayer and The FATHER IN HEAVEN who is there for me. I trust him. He is my audience and what he says matters to me.
    Ezekiel states that we have to tell the truth of God, otherwise we can go into eternal reproach. The wicked try to stop me but they can't. God's word is written in my heart and mind. No one could ever rob me of that.
    I don't care about fame and fortune, I care about His children and want them to be saved. If I write someone off in my life, it's for good because I love my peace too much. If I love others, then they can do anything to me, I will still love them. No matter how much it hurts, I still pray for them.
    The wicked made me famous. I never wanted fame or anything. I have done this for FATHER IN HEAVEN. He sees into people's hearts. The wicked know what they have done. When I ask questions, I am trying to figure things out. I'm deadly ill but I have decided that I will push myself to keep my heart and mind off the nonsense going on. I'm not working for politics and arguments. I'm working to help FATHER IN HEAVEN's children.
    I have my friends and on TH-cam whom I love dearly and have been there for me, even if it takes me awhile to discern what's happening out there. I am suffering from my neck to my feet for the children of the Father in heaven. Yes, many of God's children are or have transgressed.
    Ezekiel says
    1. Some would be jealous of me, will want to be like me and love me.
    2. Some will be jealous of me, want to be like me and hate me.
    3. Other's will love me just as I am.
    Women are the weaker vessel and a gentleman will listen to her when she speaks. If a man abuses a woman, she will find love somewhere else or never want to be in a relationship ever again. I have so much to give but I'm alone in this. It's painful. Since the 14nth of January 2022, I AM ON MY 4th box of tissues, that's how much I cry.
    Just had my technician wipe my new Apple MacBook uninstalled and reinstalled. I can't even watch a movie on it anymore. I can't even go onto Netflix or Showmax.
    I'm not a hater BUT a fighter for the lord of humanity. I don't discriminate against anyone. I do keep my distance from wicked people though.
    As for Dr's who are discrimination against President Ramaphosa, regarding Corona, don't know what they are talking about. It was outsiders who made promises to him and kept changing their word, making it seem like he isn't doing his job, but he is. We were suppose to get free vaccines etc. Testing should be free BUT we paying for it.
    Those who are heads of departments shouldn't expect President Ramaphosa to know everything they know. They supposed to report to him, bottom line. I feel so sorry for President Ramaphosa. People are speaking such nonsense about him. It makes me very angry. President Ramaphosa, I wish you could stand up for me as well. No one believes that we are related. My family laughs at me and it hurts so much. I don't allow anyone to speak badly of you. I stand up for you. You as a person and not any political party. You are a human being like us all.
    Presidents please listen and help President Ramaphosa. PRESIDENT Jimmy Carter, I enjoyed your talk very much and thank you very much for it.
    Love from the Holy mountain in Zion!

    Perhaps you should ask yourself "Do I have all the information on topics like this? Am I correct in my understanding?"
    People have become so vehement about disliking things like this because so much of it is rooted in inaccuracy, and even some could be construed as propaganda. The thing is, you can't even politely disagree with it, because you're labeled as a "misogynist" or a bigot, or some other nonsense that has had all meaning drained from it due to over use. It's hard to correct misconceptions when people aren't even willing to question the very things that require exceptional scrutiny.

      Wage Gap myth: busted years ago by Forbes, Time, New York Times, etc etc etc. Still perpetuated like crazy, even by our own current president, who should know better.
      Numerous examples of violence/injustices enacted against people equated to be a gendered problem for women, despite men being the ones most disproportionately affected by them (prison, violence, war).
      Genital mutilation. Horrible thing that happens all across the world. Men have no say in this whatsoever (I'm not saying circumcision is just as bad, just to be clear), and just a month or so ago a mother was arrested and jailed because she refused to have her son circumcised when the father wanted it done. It's not a gendered issue. No one should be subject to that.
      Campus rape myths.

    I wonder how many angry people disliked the video without even watching it...after reading some of these comments it seems like the title alone was enough to make a certain kind of person have a raging fit. To these angry guys, of course men have problems, of course a lot of work needs to be done to protect and support male abuse sufferers, to give fathers paternity leave when their child is born and to make sure that divorce courts treat male participants fairly. No one is discrediting these challenges and problems. They exist and need to be addressed. The fact is though, when you look at worldwide gender bias and the systematic abuse of women, particularly in third world countries where women are denied basic education, human rights and individual autonomy simply because they are female, you realise how dire the situation still is and how much still needs to be done

      Emily hancock I agree 100% Emily....but unfortunately you're probably talking mostly to 10-13 year old boys, living at their Mom's house, who have no idea what it's like to be a woman in the world today. Unless it's in a video game....it's beyond their comprehension. I'm the father of 5 kids, 3 of them women/girls, and 3 grand kids, 1 of them a girl, so discussions like this hit home a little closer to the heart for me than some of these misogynists turds.

    • @emilyhancock3456
      @emilyhancock3456 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      lloydgush No the message is more that if you look at the statistics, there is overwhelming evidence that a huge percentage of women worldwide are routinely subjugated and abused simply because of their gender and that this is something that has been perpetuated throughout history. As I said before, men suffer too. There are men all over the world killed in war or random attacks e.g.: drug killing, muggings, attacks of passion etc for a multitude of reasons. The difference is that the difficulties facing women, e.g.: genital mutilation, child marriage, denied education, sexual slavery etc are the result of them simply BEING women

    • @emilyhancock3456
      @emilyhancock3456 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      lloydgush Where did he say that? Just because he cares about issues that face women doesn't mean he doesn't care about issues that face men as well. Ultimately both sets of issues concern everyone because they deal with basic human rights and we're all human...

      KilluaXIII Actually, there is extensive evidence regarding the wage gap that compares the wages of men and women with the exact same qualifications and in the exact same positions (www.iwpr.org/initiatives/pay-equity-and-discrimination). It has been proven that on average, women earn less in every occupation, its not like a maid's salary is being compared to that of a banker. That's not even touching the deep sexism behind why more men are usually found in higher paying jobs (that being in large part due to inequalities and discrimination conscious or not, in hiring + promoting and stigmatized career paths for women)

    After reading the comments it's apparent many of us who've watched this video are making judgements based on a preconceived attitude toward Jimmy Carter and what we wanted to hear as opposed to what is being said.
    Strip down the words said to the nature of the talk: women are globally mistreated and both genders globally do not care. The effort to empower women can be greater and it is up to those who have a voice to do so.

    • @StigHelmer
      @StigHelmer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** "women are globally mistreated" - if you compare with men they are not. View the hardship men face and you will see that men both modern societies as well as in 3rd world nations work more, work harder, sacrifices more and have fewer rights then women.
      "both genders globally do not care" - more people care about women then men. This speech and a million others like it since the dawn of time is a proof of that. Why is that laws against rape only mention women in the 11th century? Why is that we still have problem viewing men as victims in the 21st century?

    I agree with what he's saying, but when talking about the inequality in the job market, one must also include the studies that show that women CEOs discriminate against women (in pay and hiring) just as much as men CEOs do.
    I'm not saying that it's okay (it's not), but it's an important piece of information.

      It's a systemic issue, there are women who support the patriarchy and there are men who fight for equality. It is important to keep that in mind, but also important to see how it plays into the bigger picture.

    Mr Carter, I disagree, the mistreatment of women is not the number one human rights abuse, all human were created equal (an idea you defend in this talk) therefore all human abuse is not acceptable regardless of the age, race or gender.
    Promote the end of abuse, not the splitting of the human race. Hope you read this.

    It's deeply sad that most men don't care about women and girls being treated as full human beings, but so wonderful to see great men like President Carter speaking on behalf of those without power. What an example 🙏

    Great video and great information. I didn't even realize how often men in the military get away with rape in the U.S...That's very disconcerting... FGM is still a huge problem as well. I've heard that it can cause serious infections and fatalities in women and girls, as well as delayed or longer-lasting menstrual periods, infertility, and many other problems. I did see yesterday that the former president of Nigeria finally outlawed FGM there, however. I'm proud of him for that. I hope that Egypt and the other countries follow his lead. The mistreatment of women and girls has been one of the biggest injustices for centuries, and it's astounding that it is still happening in the 21st century. Thanks for the talk, Mr. Carter :)

    I strongly recommend many of you read "Half the Sky" by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. It is a phenomenally well researched and written version of this talk. Most of the dissenters' comments on this video (fairly) have to do with a lack of clarity and research. Where this talk lacks, the book excels. Check it out.

    I don't even know why I look at the comments. The negative response to this video is disgraceful. Thank you President Carter for giving this issue your effort. Apparently we still have a long way to go. Thankfully, in the long run, civil justice always wins. The down-voters are on the wrong side of history.

      Bobby Raschke That fact that what he says are all based on lies and bad statistics don't bother you? Take genital mutilation for instance, something he actually has an ability to make a difference with, is legal to do on boys in the US. He even have the never to claim the it's the fathers fault that girls are mutilated in Africa when it actually is the mothers.

      Bobby Raschke No one is downvoting because they think the oppression of women doesn't matter. People are downvoting because he repeated the lies and misinformation of extremists - that women are paid less than men for the same work, or that 1 in 4 women are raped at college. These statements are completely untrue in America.

    "Misinterpretation" of holy scriptures? What historian would argue that the women of those times (ancient times the holy books were written) had it great (compared to today), and we simply went astray with bad interpretations?
    We don't have to interpret anything. All you have to do is open these holy books and read them for yourself.

    • @EagleZtoTheGrave
      @EagleZtoTheGrave 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SunriseInTheMidwest Not really... The way most people read the bible, it's hard to interpret anything properly, which is why we have so many different views on it. In law, there is something called letter of the law vs spirit of the law... In other words, don't take everything at face value, when you read anything, you have to get the proper interpretation, otherwise you can make it say whatever you want it to... The original intent of the author is important to know.

    • @vernonsza
      @vernonsza 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      EagleZtoTheGrave That's a great point. But also let's remember that is most likely not coincidence that people people just came to the same conclusions regarding the treatment of women, regardless of interpretation. Think 200 years ago. Catholic or protestant interpretations came to very similar conclusions about the role of women and how they are to be treated. Same with Shia/Sunni Islam.
      Only today, when we have a concept of modernity and equality for women, do we now say "Oh well, it must have just been bad interpretations of scripture". This is, as we say, wanting to have your cake and eat it too.
      It would be interesting to have biblical and quranic scholars (with no bias themselves, if that's possible) talk about the original intent of the passages and verses regarding women and their role in society.

    • @vernonsza
      @vernonsza 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      EagleZtoTheGrave I couldn't agree more about the nature of men and women. One thing that I think is incredibly difficult, is that in our society, we let people get a free pass because they say "these are my beliefs in accordance with my faith". So when people do hold sexist or bigoted beliefs, it's almost not politically correct to shake somebody of those beliefs, even if they are using their scripture as an excuse. As an atheist, people could just save me "well you don't hold the same religion as I, so you wouldn't understand." I think that's a copout. But it can be just as difficult between peoples of faith when they start arguing upon interpretation.
