    As a mathematician, I was wondering why the name “Euclidean”. As soon as you explained, it became obvious that it comes from the Euclidean division algorithm, the very basis of arithmetic. It was really nice to see it applied and that it produces such nice patterns!!! Thank you for the video.

      As despicable as these scoundrels are, you should absolutely be flattered!
      Con-artists, scammers, "managers", they ALL rely on REAL TALENT... to pull off their little childish schemes... because they themselves have no real talent, other than the drive to feed off others like the leeches they are!
      To those who want to ensure they aren't deceived, notice how there is a grey bar around Oscar's username? That is how you ensure the commentor is in fact the channel creator themselves... Plus, we should all be pretty clear on what Oscar's intentions are in teaching us his wisdom and expertise 😎

    I used to hear these things and wonder what the hell was going on. Then I got a Roland TB 303 or 808 baseline plug in and accidentally made some of these kinds of rhythms because you can turn off notes in the arpeggiator and it skips them rather than just turn them off. Still didn't figure out exactly how or why it worked but it did.
    Now with your videos I really understand better and have started experimenting with these kinds of things a bit more. It's awesome and thank you!

    Plot twist : "Fake" Oscar is actually Oscar! He's not doing it for the money, it's just for the opportunity to proclaim himself a big channel!
    Joke aside, I realized that I lost the account I've been following this channel on and although I haven't commented anything before figured I might thank you for all the knowledge you share! Not only is your desire to share it genuine and combined with a unique talent of translating it to all of us aspiring loop engineering students :D , it still must take a lot of your time..( this would be such a dad pun if I decided to write this a week earlier on the previous tutorial)
    Peace!

  • @joeljohansson6097
    @joeljohansson6097 ปีที่แล้ว

    The correct term for the dotted pattern is a "tresillo". What you are basically doing is phase shifting the tresillo one 16th forward on each iteration. You can phase shift this pattern any way you want. Try combine it with a halftime tresillo to form actual phrases for further intricacy.
    Interestingly, the tresillo is also present in euclidean rhythms. I like to call them "harmonic pulses" (which are movement/trance inducing).

    this is an extremely meaty, extremely thoughtful review of some critical rhythm concepts i've struggled to put names against. while i understood the gist of the ideas upon listening, and knew when i found them, the application for me has been haphazard as i did not understand the principles. really excellent work, along with all aspects of your channel.

    I’m going back into all of your bassline videos. I’m trying to make some house basslines that sound older than I am, and I know the trick to stay true to the limitations of the time period is to stick to 16th notes, same with the tr909 drums. I need to continue just doing more things and making more, and hopefully find and create some fun movements between the drums and bassline

    Ableton makes clicking Euclidean Rhythms into the Piano Roll truly simple: Click in the amount of notes into the Piano Roll -- say 7 Quarter Notes -- THEN click on the Right Hand Side of the Midi Clip ... and DRAG IT to the LENGTH you desire, say 16 16th Notes, or 1 Bar -- and NOW you have a CLIP that is 7 equal beats in length in a Bar 🎉 You can repeat this as many times as you like to create multi-layered Euclidean Patterns, PLUS you can ADJUST the ACCENT POSITION using VELOCITY 😁😎👍🎶

  • @zlyk99
    @zlyk99 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was today years old when I learned that every time I struggle placing on the grid the rhythm I pictured in my head because it was “off-tempo” I was just making Euclidean rhythms 🙂

    Using a zig-zag / triangular pattern on time compression for two similar tracks, e.g. 1/8th hats with one track offset by 1/16th to simulate 16ths... then let the time compression on one or both tracks pull and push the synchronisation apart and together again. The wavelength could correspond to the bar length in interesting proportions, e.g. 1:2, 3:4 etc

    • @0x44Monad
      @0x44Monad ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you explain this more? I'd really appreciate it. What's the time compression part? A video and I'd send 10000 likes if I could. Thank you!

    • @paulodonovanmusic
      @paulodonovanmusic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0x44Monad I‘m not Setup for that sorry. The main idea is from the video above, two tracks each with eight notes. I think hats are perfect for this kind of playfulness. You could modulate the speed (time compression) of the tracks so that they slide in and out of sync with each other. To modulate, you could look at what subtractive audio synthesis does and e.g. take a shape. E.g. a triangle, then use this shape as your modulator source. It steadily pushes one or both tracks out/in to sync, until it reaches the triangle apex, then it steadily pulls back in the reverse direction. This can create a pulse effect, and you could even use a different shape like a sine to control IT‘S speed. It’s just theoretical, I wouldn’t know what plugins etc might be needed to even try it.

    Sorry for asking it here, but I couldn't find it...
    Do you have any videos talking about transitions between tracks or patterns of drums? pads and polymeters in long sets?
    As a beginner I am having difficulties in creating long tracks and doing good transitions that follow the concepts that I started my projects...
    Many thanks again for helping us.

    • @twatmunro
      @twatmunro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great ask. Variations, turn arounds, transitions, etc. are the things I find hardest about the arrangement process. I can make a great 8 bar loop. I can make a different melody or bass line for a different section. The thing I find hard is making these things so that they hang together. Not sonically, but thematically -- so that they sound like they belong to the same song, rather than being two different songs artificially glued together. Sure, I know the various tricks about doing transitions with FX, snare rolls, etc. I suppose it's that process of coming up with verses and choruses -- less in melodic techno, where you can get away with that hanging together disparate melodies -- but in dub/dark/berlin techno, where it tends to be variations on the original theme. How much do you vary? How much do you keep the same? Just dropping out elements isn't quite enough, you need some variation -- but how do you go about that process? Do you just change the patch? Sweep the filter? Surely you need more than that?

    • @Hyper5nic

      Oscar 's video on Syncopation and the one on Chord planning will help you with this.

    • @LegitoArt
      @LegitoArt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@twatmunro Thank you, Munro,
      Yes, the magic is to have the sensibility and knowledge on how to make the storyline make sense to others, using the mathematics of sound to put them precisely without using methods of FX and lifts to make those transitions...
      It's the same as poems...
      The phonetics must make sense for others to understand the music from the words that you are trying to portray...
      That is what differentiate a good musician from others.
      After all, we are all storytellers of sounds and notes...
      Thank you for your response.,,
