Excellent explanation, Will! I must admit, as a modular user, I find all my Euclidean patterns by accident using free running LFOs, clock dividers, mixed Gates/trigs and the like. Sure, they sell Euclidean specific modules, but when you stumble on a groove by accident it's quite a nice feeling and you better hit record quick.

Thanks for showing this nifty tool. Coming from Bulgaria where odd time signatures and syncopation for spacing notes is very common in folklore music I always found western notation systems lacking or making it difficult to represent music that isn't the normal 4/4 or 3/4. At the same time those rhythms feel very natural to play on an instrument. So if you are looking for esoteric musical concepts you might want to check time signatures like 7/8, 9/8 13/8 and 15/8

Every rhythm that ever existed on this planet can be made from Euclidian rhythms. Coming up with African / Afro-Cuban Polyrhythms becomes trivial... I recommend Taches Teaches excellent series. He is using bitwig, but the same concepts apply nonetheless.

Off the top of my head I can only think of an album called Articulations by Rival Consoles, because he uses polyrhythms that are inherently euclidian. Despite being an electronic artist, after looking up his methods, it turns out he uses a lot of field recordings for his rhythm sections. And he avoided using any type of drum machines. He did however literally sketch his ideas for his tracks out on graph paper. He says his intentions are to explore different ways to conceive music while keeping the feel of it organic.

Does anyone know a euclidean vst plugin where the steps depend on the midi chord notes in your midi clip? (step 1 - lowest note, step 2 - second note etc.) In most plugins (including HY-Plugins) you have to set the notes in the plugin manually or the plugin plays all notes from the midi chord on each step (i want a single note per step). It's not very dynamic if you want to change chords throughout the track.

Great stuff as always. It's possible all math genius could contribute to cool rhythm! Let's make a plugin that uses the quantum wave equation and see what happens. Perhaps a matrix-like universe could self-integrate inside my daw. Then it's lucky I use Reaper instead of Protools as every time it crashed whole civilizations of intelligent beings would be wiped out. 😄 Have a great weekend.
