Remember that episode where Damian mistakenly bought a broken Porsche 911 from Silverstone Auctions? The 930 Turbo without a turbo? Well it’s finally back, fixed, and glorious, thanks to Emblem Sports Cars.
This week, TheCarGuys take the revitalised Turbo out for its first shakedown after an eye-watering repair bill!
Fortunately, it is now one of the best Porsches in the world - a low mileage 1989 last-of-the-line G50 930 Turbo. Does it get any better?
Created by two ordinary guys with an obsession for cars, TheCarGuys.tv is a digital channel that celebrates everything automotive - supercars, classics, quirky, hidden gems and those in the TCG garage.

When I was a young man and massively into my motorbikes I had no interest whatsoever for cars, then one day in 1985 I parked next to a 911 turbo and my eyes were opened.
I discovered Porsche and fell in love with all their cars.
Over the years I was lucky enough to drive 944's, 928's,911's inc a turbo but never had any spare money to buy my own Porsche 😔
    That changed 20mths ago when I finally bought a 987.1 Cayman S 😁
I love my Cayman and to think it has the performance to equal that original 911 turbo that I parked next to all those years ago blows me away.
I could never afford to buy a classic 911 turbo but I have the next best thing for me and I'm more then happy.
    Porsche for ever! ❤️
Another great vid by the way lads 👍

Great story John. I bought my first Porsche about a year ago after a lifetime of waiting. It has fulfilled all of my expectations of the brand. It has been said that money can't by happiness but it can buy a Porsche which is the same thing :) Drive safely.

I’ve had my 1988 930 Cabriolet for 25 years now.
It’s been slightly ‘weaponized’ with a larger turbo, stainless header system/exhaust, and a few other things.
After all these years, it is still a totally exhilarating yet understated driving experience.
If you’re at all like me, the longer you keep your 930, the more you’ll enjoy it.., guaranteed!

I live in the mid-west and have a stock 1979 Porsche 928 5 speed manual with the 220 locking differential option and one day hit a slightly damp greasy road and ignorantly gave it a little to much throttle which literally caused a near heart attack and almost had me facing the other way. Thankfully there were not other cars or it could have ended much worse. And this is with only 219 hp. All 930's I believe came standard with the 220 locking diff and with the turbo coming on suddenly on a greasy surface with both rear wheels nearly locked, you could easily end up in a ditch and pointing the other way which is why the 930 earned the title widow maker.

Great video guys, and you make a great comedy duo. Stunning car which takes me back to the age of bellbottoms, sidelocks and moustaches, open necked shirts with collars the size of wing flaps on a 747 etc.......!!!!! As another owner of a 987.1 Cayman, I can appreciate everything about your driving experience in that classic Porsche. Another thing, the air cooled engines have a noticeably gruffer note than most water cooled Porsches these days that lack the sport exhaust. My Cayman has a Capristi system to enhance the distinctive flat six sound and add about 22 HP.

Great video guys on the continuous story of this awesome car. I had kept an eye on this car pre auction and couldn’t quite
Believe it when you guys bought it. We also imported an 1987 930 turbo high output to Australia. And yes a few little problems, but wow the power delivery when the turbo spooled up.

I remember a mate of mine getting the next gen turbo 2nd hand in the mid 90s - it was all going so well until "the turbo chopped in whilst going around the roundabout" ending up down the motorway slip road embankment and through a fence ….

All air cooled cars need work. Some more than others. I bought mine and did around 8k worth of new parts. Labor was my time and to be honest I loved it. I know my 993 better than any car I have ever owned. It is now perfect mechanically and drives like a dream. Wouldn't hestitate to drive it on a road trip. Congrats on an amazing car you got there.

You both did a great job giving a TRUE (no bs) overview of an amazing example of the old 930 Turbo. I happen to own 2 very low Km 89 Turbos, one 1989 Turbo Cab and one 1989 Turbo Coupe. They are both Linen on Linen, and they make a lovely pair, like two bothers... or two sisters depending how you personally describe your cars. 1989, The last year of truly unadulterated Porsche sports cars with iconic looks and no electronic nanny's to save the inexperienced driver.... it's just you and God!

Of course I'm going to give the video a like - its a classic Porsche Turbo being driven properly!
£8k extra on putting a formerly stored car right. Yes, had a similar issue with a previously stored motorcycle, which effectively doubled the already high purchase price. Rode wonderfully after that point, and having bought a very solid vehicle in the first place it sold well a few years later. If you intend to keep and drive, then after you get over the inevitable initial shock, not an enjoyment or fiscal issue, and will always be both fun and reliable. Go drive it and enjoy Damian (but give the keys to Jason occasionally).

This is a perfect example of a garage queen car and the costs involved recomissioning it , however the low mileage will hold it's value from a collectors prospective. I own a Corrado VR6 157 k and a Sl500 R129 127k (72k cost in 1999 more then a 911 from the same era and my first house ha ) , gone through the whole car Suspension , timing chains, trimmers etc on both cars and drive like they should , modern classics buy on condition and recent money spent in my opinion as mileage is just a number. Great looking 930 by the way, 964 RS would be on top of my list. Keep up the great work guys.

Congratulations for the car and the video. I have to admit that you did a great job getting this piece of Porsche's history back. I love the lines of the car, they're just timeless...They were utterly machines to be driven and that's all about them! I would like to see the car personally, but on the video doesn't really stands out the colour. And the interiour in white, is not completely my cup of tea but whatever! I like the comment about VW Golf R having the same power output but I can imagine it's like comparing apples and oranges...I wonder who owned this car 30 years ago...when exotic cars were not that popular.Anyways, keep posting more videos of cars because I am totally addicted to them!! By the way, besides the general maintenance, do you have any improvements -if we can say that- planned? Cheers from Majorca.

Interesting to see the extent to which this first generation of commercialized turbo Porsches needs to be driven so differently and cautiously than the present generation 911s - except for maybe the staggeringly powerful GT2 RS and Turbo/S. Your comments lead to understanding (for the non initiated driver) why this model was known as The Widow maker ! What is also fascinating is the sheer smallness of these 911s compared to the 991 and 992 generations. Awesome !
You must be truly delighted, and with very good reason. The 8000 quid were bloody worth while 😄👍

I bought a 1996 993 C2, varioram, 20,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny, back in 2007. I put $10,000 into it: 30K service plus a totally new Bilstein HD ROW-height suspension, beefier sway bar, etc. From that point on I basically had a newly-improved car.
I still have it. It's a keeper, as you say.

Stunning car, great to see its all working and tip top :-). Don't suppose there is any come back with the cost of the faults being that it was bought from auction?, think you should hunt the previous owner down and leave a poo in a burning paper bag on his doorstep then ring the doorbell and hide but hey. Drove an 1988 Carrera sport with the g50 box many many years ago, they take a bit of getting used to, flat ish bolt upright steering wheels and pedals out the floor like dare I say erm a beetle but ace cars and love the flat six howl.....enjoy the car, great video chaps

Xerox makes a product called Fuser Oil. You can find it on ebay. I would advise any one to aquire some especially with any kind of classic car and use it on all the rubber molding door and trunk seals. My dad a 1969 that he used fuser oil on all the rubber and it was considered better then new when he sold it in 2009. Also better then replacement moldings/seals. Dad said he could put a bead of it on the outer tire wall let it sit for a week and it would permeate to the interior wall of the tire.

The paintwork is in very good condition (impressively shiny for a clear grey car) bar a few nicks on the front. The interior looks nice but as some other comment said, try to refurb the gear knob.
This and a new set of plates (they are horrible and the front one looks bent) will bring the whole car really to the same standard as now the mechanicals are: outstanding.

Must be the best example and lowest mileage outside of porsches own museum, very surprised a prestige auction group do not supply a pre purchase report, I know it's an auction "sold as seen and no warranty implied or given " and all that , but still , it's not exactly a 10 year old fiesta . £800 is a very expensive repair bill, but £8 grand !!!!!!! , that's another used car. I liked the Emblem inserts, I would love a tour around that garage some very nice machinery in their . The problem with these old mechanical non electronic cars is you have to strip them right down to fault diagnose, which costs a fortune in labour, rather than plug in a code reader.

Great video, lovely to see a 930 being used and appreciated. Not for the faint hearted but once sorted and used they are relative value. Love the boost.........nothing, nothing then whoosh

Nice looking car. Years ago I almost bought on on ebay. I guess bidding did not go high enough because seller pulled the auction. You only forgot to rotate the tachometer so 7K is at 12 o'clock!

We want so much for people to be honest.
I'd wager the record for "most crashes of a new car on its first drive" easily belongs to the 930.
Very nice example. Cool colour combo.

Give me one of these, over a GT3 RS any day of the week.
This is when Porsche knew how to make a great car.
Just think that £8k you have wisely spent on this stunning example, was money well spent.
These aircooled beauties are increasing in value, year on year, and £8k was worth every penny.

AAAhh Turbo love............worth every penny to have her right tho .............nice to see Jason taking a few liberties with her.....but he is showing classic symptoms of a petrol head who needs a track day in the Honda with the boys to preserve his licence..........

in Australia - early 2000s you could import one of these for less than 20k (they were left hand drive) but could be converted for like less than 10k... now one of these cars cannot be purchased for under 120k

British roads honestly scare me- they seem so narrow. May be it's just the perspective caused by the cameras, but they look about a foot wider than whatever car is on them. Great when you're all alone in your F12 or 911, but terrifying when there is oncoming traffic. Still, what a great car and glad it found a good home and a little TLC. Fantastic!
