    The producers didnt want Sophie Wilde (Mia) as the lead in this film. They even threatened to pull out 1 million from the budget if the directors cast her. At the time, this was her first film and the producers didnt want to risk a "no name" as the lead. The directors took the paycut and cast her anyway. This is my favorite horror film of the year so far. Another A24 success!

    Love this movie so much. It really does show how selfish teenagers are. I think people go in so hard on Mia but forget she’s just a teenage girl who is grieving extremely hard and feels so lonely. She would do anything to hang on to her mom for even just a second. I’m an adult and I can’t say that I wouldn’t do the same thing if my mom passed away. It’s just common human selfishness. I think she’s just a sad character, not unlikeable.

    People have been debating whether Mia jumped or was pushed by Jade. It's my belief she was pushed by Jade, it adds to Mia's confusion to what's going on around her in the end, then the realization in the final moment when she hears the words "I let you in" By far the best horror movie of 2023 so far. Such a brilliant debut!

    • @Gylfie70

      The only reason I questioned it was, the mom said we will take care of him and then her eyes went wide and she realized it was her that needed to die to save Riley, and
      then the accident happens.

    • @neutrongamingofficial
      @neutrongamingofficial 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      The sole reason I think she decided to jump on her own, was because they said we will keep him forever so she realized, they just wanted a soul. It didn’t have to be his, that’s why you see her hands let go of the wheelchair. She wouldn’t have let go if she was pushing him over because she was at the edge of the concrete and the chair wouldn’t roll any further. So I think she stepped off and sacrificed herself so they could take HER forever instead. And then you see in the background when she stands up on the road he seems to be in better condition than he was as if he was healed from the bites on his arms. Very great ending tho either way✊🏻🔥

    In August 2023, Danny and Michael Philippou revealed that they had already completed principal photography on a prequel film, with the story exploring Duckett's backstory which leads into the character's introduction in the original movie. Production was completed consecutively, from the perspective of screenlife storytelling through mobile phones and social media. Sunny Johnson features as Duckett. The filmmakers stated that they intend to release this project in the future. Additionally, the Philippous confirmed plans to develop a sequel, stating that they've already written sequences for the project.
    Later that month, A24 announced that a sequel titled Talk 2 Me was in development; with the studio releasing the official logo at that same time.
    Danny and Michael Philippou will return as co-directors, from a script written by returning writers Danny and Bill Hinzman.

    Pretty sure the spirits were possessing both Mia and the little brother (Riley). Remember, Duckett's brother said the ghosts leave your body after a while like a drug, so Riley was able to eventually recover. Mia died while the spirits still had a hold on her, so she was trapped forever.

  • @specificsoup
    @specificsoup 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

    A lot of people think the spirit in the brother wasn't the mom but imitated the mom when he was first possessed. I believe the weird bumpy old spirit you see him as a few times at the end is the real spirit who he first "talked to." And when Duckett's brother said over time, the spirit's lose power and then just leave, I think that's what happened and why Riley was able to get better. Eventually if the person doesn't keep using the hand, or the person doesn't die, they just have to leave.

      This!!!! It DEEPLY hurt me when they kept calling Mia an ásshole. As someone who has gone through what Mia did I get it. Grief (ESPECIALLY of someone So close to you) is INSANELY difficult to process. And when the person you're supposed to be able to lean on the most is hiding stuff and being distant it makes it that much more difficult. I empathize so much with Mia trying to do whatever she can to talk to her mum. And she's a young girl. They're only 16. She's not equipped nor has the capacity to not make stupid decisions while grieving. They're the first reactors I've seen to hate Mia.

    I found it interesting that they said the spirits weaken over time, and near the end, Jade says on the phone that Riley seemed to be getting better and was more himself. At the same time, the spirit escalates things with Mia very quickly to trick her into killing Riley to "save" him. According to the movie, if you die while it's inside you, then it has you forever. That's what it wanted. I think if she had left it alone, the spirit may have eventually lost its grip.

    Also, ouija boards were sold as a parlor game for many years and it was only because of The Exorcist that it started being viewed as something dangerous (because of course movies show reality, right?). Since then it's legend has grown because of particularly religious propaganda, paranoia and movies but in reality it's not dangerous. Saying hello and goodbye is polite but you won't get possessed if you don't say that. If you're worried about inviting in bad spirits, (they really don't need a game to show up in your place) then there are things you can do for a bit of extra protection. Tbh it's like being scared that a deck of cards is going to make you posessed.

    🎉 This movie is crazy! 😮 I love it! I also love Puggapillar he is a kool cat! I love you Puggapillar❤🍿 In the second Talk To Me movie I hope the main character thats dead haunts the people that got her playing with demons and hell. That's so unfair that the two that introduced her and other people to hell in a hand, get to walk away. Boooo!! Awesome movie.

    One thing I believe a lot of people may have missed about this movie is basically it’s a teen movie and it displays how teens will go all the way just for views for example the tik tok momo challenge and how a lot of kids hurt themselves because of it, this movie sheds light on these type of situations, teens will do anything for views, everyone always recording something, it really shed light on these horrible situations on the internet… the terrible friends and how people will do anything to fit in, I’m just a film geek but what go over a lot of people heads I catch on to, this movie was great and by far the best in 2023 with a meaning behind it, it’s not the best one of 2023 but most definitely high on the list considering story telling and meaning

      i like that you tried, but im 100% sure its a metaphor for drug addiction and usage. And how it affects you and everyone around you. It even went as deep as peer pressure, and the fact that the friends were shaming Mia ALONE, as if its ONLY her fault.

    • @_gkc
      @_gkc 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's 10000000% just about the lengths that loneliness/depression can take a person, and how grief & drugs are a fatal combination.
      Like you can say that for the beginning of the movie when people were recording Cole and Duckett, but at no point beyond that is "grrr these kids and their dang phones" ever the thing. The hand/drugs as a form of escape is the problem, and it always has been even before phones and social media were a thing.

    Everyone’s comparing this to Hereditary, but I’ll be honest, I liked this one a lot more. And I already LOVED Hereditary.
    I really liked the portrayal of possession being like a party drug, and the ‘Hell’ scene in particular stood out to me bc you don’t often see a soul actually being tortured in possession movies, the spirits/demons usually just mention it in passing to intimidate the other characters.
    Hereditary was a bit too ‘traditional cult story’ for me and the novelty of the brutality/jump scares wore off after a while. talk to me felt hauntingly bleak in a realistic way.
    the bad people who brought the big bad into the main characters life get away because they never went over the time limit and therefore don’t care, the people who used the item before the main character experiences it were ABSOLUTELY no help at all, the main character doesn’t randomly snap out of her headspace for no reason and have a triumphant ending, there isn’t some dead hand guru who knows everything about the afterlife.

    If I had to guess the main character was the unwitting target of the machinations of unclean spirits. At different points you can see the spirits working a scheme of sorts, with each one having a role to play in lulling Mia into their snare. Mia being heavily grieved and desperate drew them to her like a Venus fly trap, and they exploited her as well as Riley for their own means. When she said “they like you” that meant Riley was selected for a specific purpose. If I had to guess, to gain extended access to his body and Mia’s mind. Further, maybe to ultimately reconnect the hand to its owner or something. I think the hand belonged to the old spirit guy in the wheel chair at the end, that’s why he said “you found me”.

  • @carlosriveraauthor
    @carlosriveraauthor 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The sound of water and gurgling have nothing to do with her mom, which means that wasn't her mom at any moment. It was always the drowned woman manipulating her.
    The kid eventually got better as time passed just like Duckett's brother said. It was just a matter of waiting for the spirits to weaken and let him go.

    9:13
    I love that you turned around as well & your facial expression at 9:33😅
    I love seeing people's reactions to this movie. When I saw the movie in the theater I was the only one there.
    It was awhile after it had come out and about 3pm. I had a great time. I really loved it and can't wait for the prequel and sequel 🤎
    Also, curious people's thoughts on if Mia only volunteered herself to go first because of peer pressure to "be cool" and fit in. Since there were people there that didn't like her.
    Or if you thought Mia planned on going to try the hand to see if it was real. So she could either possibly see her mom, or possibly to get a rush as well.
    Since Mia begged Jade to come with her and that it was her moms remembrance day. Especially since Jade had been ignoring her and not really paying attention during this rough time for her. She obviously needed a friend.
    I thought the latter but someone on a how to beat video thought Mia just did it to fit in. They said there was no interpretation and that I was flat out wrong.
    Which honestly makes no sense to me when you actually pay attention to Mia, her relationship with Jade, the stuff going on with her mom, and just the fact Mia was the one watching the hand videos intrigued wanting to go to the party.
    I don't see why she'd all of a sudden volunteer just to be cool and get them to like her. Honestly she was laughing and came across like she was having fun, not that she wanted to be cool.
    It's a long comment but if anyone does read this I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on that. I'd like to hear another opinion besides the person who thought I was stupid and my own opinion.

    • @_gkc
      @_gkc 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that Mia volunteered to go first as an attempt to connect with her peers/fit in. She's lonely and went to this party to have fun with people and hopefully get her mind off of her mothers death, but the first thing she's met with when she gets to the party is a person that doesn't want her there because she's too gloomy. Then no one talks to her and she ends up on the couch alone with her thoughts. Volunteering was her saying to them that she's not just a gloomy person and she's worth talking to. She was willing to do anything for a connection.
