Man, this video hit the spot, both in substance and tone... really well done! We all know that the income stream from in-concept ships is a big part of CIG's revenue, and from seeing how quickly the older in-concept models sold out, CIG definitely knows how to play to its consumer base. And we all kind of knew we'd be seeing a new in-concept ship during the IAE, so the Galaxy wasn't much of a surprise. What triggered me about it was the emphasis on modularity -- a feature that several flyable ships don't have yet, and one therefore that we're suspicious of seeing anytime soon. I'm in total agreement with you: RSI is free to market in-concept ships, and anyone who wants one, go ahead and commit for it. (CIG's market demographic is one that a lot of corporations would kill for -- we're a bunch of optimists with credit cards!) The problem, though, is something that's outside of the usual market influences: An ever-growing backlog of in-concept ships, in-concept gameplay loops and incomplete functionalities. Anyone who's watched this video can tick off a half-dozen flyable ships whose main purpose is absent: The Anvil Terrapin, the Reliant Mako, the Reliant Sen, the Drake Herald, the Aegis Reclaimer; throw in the Caterpillar if you bought it for the modularity, the MSR if you bought it for the data running/scanning, the Carrack if you bought it for the drones, and the Starfarers if you bought them for the refineries. Every time CIG announces another new in-concept ship, I can't help but think that news reporting and recon scanning got pushed back even further. Sad thing is, there's not much we can do about it. The older backers, burned by a decade-long delay on their Idris and Kraken purchases, are probably more reluctant to plunk down real cash for a Galaxy, but if IAE 2952 told us anything, there's always a new generation of players who aren't jaded yet. (I saw a comment on one YT video the other day, some guy musing out loud how cool it'd be if the Galaxy shows up by next March... keep hope alive!) Today's optimistic Galaxy buyers will most likely turn into tomorrow's dissatisfied Orion owners, but there'll be more new players come in and take their place. That's just the reality -- that's CIG's marketplace at work. Give 'em credit, at least, at the purchase point -- they make it perfectly clear what you're getting into. For me, I'm trying hard to put my money into flyable ships (or at least soon-to-be, like the Vulture). There's another aspect to all this that doesn't get talked about that much: Multi-crew versus Multi-ship, and I'm attracted to the latter... ships like the Expanse. But I'm a big sci-fi fan, and only human; from everything I've written here, if CIG announces a submersible spacecraft carrier built by Aegis, my fingers will have bought one before my brain's had a chance to react! I hope that at some point, CIG will address the backlog -- I'd be a lot more willing to part with my money for a Polaris if I even just knew that *someone* was working on the Mako or Terrapin; I'd even consider getting a Galaxy if I had a sense that the Caterpillar's modularity was somewhere on the roadmap. Until then... I'm holding fast.

This is a Capitl Killer, what are you going to do shoot 890s lol They made the Bengal for SQ42. The Brigs, the Hangar, Hallways, Medrooms, Bridge... all come from the Bengal. So the styleguide and assets are done. Three midsize ships from RSI are in the same place in the pipeline. When they decide to bang these out, they might do them together and take much less time this way. Until 4.0 none of these ships should be expected. But for God sake, If you are going to cry about the funding model...
I agree with you. But its also the size of the servers. We wont have ships that require 33% or more of the server population to fully crew. Once meshing is done which should have hundreds to thousands of people in the same shard i expect to see some big ships released fairly quickly.

To each their own. I want lots of ships in a space game.. it's typically my biggest complaint with other space games. I'm enjoying all the options on Star Citizen. Looking forward to actually seeing the ships in game whenever they have gameplay. Nothing worse than having a ship without a purpose.. MSR needs some Data running options ASAP.
Just bought the rsi polaris from the invictus week this week. Before i say anything i think your video is spot on, on how people should go about looking at concept ships. And for the most part you should wait till its in the game to think about flying it. Even if its not flyable wait till its in missions like the idris. But for me the way i look at it is atleast for right now with robert space industries thats nice is you can exchange/melt the ship. I know its not gonna be like that forever and when the game is fully released idk if exchanges will still exist the way the do today. But im almost 100% sure the ship will come out before star citizen is finished. So looking at it that way lets say the ship drops at the end of this year and its a total let down. Well atleast i can still exchange the ship for 1k (cad) and put it towards other ships that have dropped and i maybe want or ships already in the game. Or hey even another concept ship lol jk not me. This is the only concept ship ill buy but thats still how i look at it. Sorry last thing that has to be said. Remember all ships will be available for purchase with aUEC in game once the ship is released into the PU. Spending money on concept ships right now is 10% merely for personal enjoyment and 90% to help support the game development. Concept ship images seen today are not the final product and will be changed as development of the ship progresses. And dont persume a ship will drop at a certain date cause we all know that date is usually followed up with a extra year of finishing touches haha.
Yeah if they want my money they gotta work for it and release straight to flyables. The problem is that SC is constantly drawing in new people and those are inexpierenced and have no idea of this practice. Then they purchase a concept ship and learn they won't be flying it for years or even decades to come. Same thing would have happened to me during ILW if they presented the galaxy back then, but fortuntaly it was the legionnaire which I had zero interest in... so I dodged a potentially very expensive bullet there.
Nice video I'm thinking of trading in my carrack to buy it. The only thing is I think they have missed a trick as the front section looks as though it could detach like a landing ship. I think if this happened I think it would be massive bonus and a treat for emersion and game play....I wont be buying it until its in game, I bought the carrack as a concept and then waited 7 years for it.
Money is a motivator plain and simple. Trust me if we stopped buying concept ships and new ships that come out before the concept ship backlog, they'd start putting out the ships that they have already promised quicker than anything and it would make your head spin. Why? Because they'd be in a damn hurry to add new ships so that they could actually sell those and make that almighty dollar.
I totally agree with you, even tho i have 3 concepts right now. BMM, Perseus and Galaxy. The galaxy was purchased with only store credits, as i melted down a few ships that i barelly used, or didn't like (Corsair). The corsair is what kinda made me hate concepts. It flies like a brick, even tho advertised as a rather good nimble ship. I hope they don't fuck up my three others, or they gonna become something more usefull. I won't buy another, unless I got enough store credits, as I put in way to much money for this game, that could have bought me really expensive equipment for like lets say airsoft, or a way beefier rig. So yeah lets hope.
I actually have thought that at some point in the future CIG will have a custom ship design programme. If they get to a point where they can pretty much guarantee the longevity of the game indefinitely then people would spend thousands for their own unique ship. In theory all they would need to do is have modular sections available in each manufacturer design language and you could pay for a build a ship service where you stick what you want where. Interesting video dude!
i realize you are new, so I will go easy on on you. You cannot 'let them think it's okay'. They already know it's okay. This is how it's been done for 10 years. It will never change. But yeah, we're way past not letting the thin it's okay. Way past. And PS - this is precisely how the custom made woodworking industry works. You really need to think about these things more.
When someone starts a comment with "I realize you are new so I will go easy on you..." I know they have nothing of value to say. So I don't read their comment. Just letting you know for future reference if youd like anyone to take your opinion seriously.
@@AverageArdvark The "Grey Market", all concepts ship go up in value, you can also get 80% discount on ships that if you don't like you can sell later.. Or you can intentionally stockpile.. 😉
@@Austintatious_One ok you can't say you can sell ships in sc and then say on the gray market haha. that is not in the game. I appreciate that its possible.
@@AverageArdvark What difference does it make.. Not like its at all difficult to sells ships on ebay.. The Website facilitates the act.. I would not invest in nonsense NFT's that will surely collapse.. On the other hand I have made 10k from SC and have a free 5k fleet.. Am not sure what your point is..
@@Austintatious_One all the difference. It's morally and legally questionable lol. That's why it's call the"gray" market. You have not made any money lol. you've spent 5k. Buying on sale is not the same as making money. You can look at it that way if you want.
I was looking at the star system production state earlier today that someone posted on reddit and the size of stanton is a size "5"... whatever that means... But there is a system that is a size 199. Like what? CIG has to make all of these crazy ass systems, some of which are huge, AND get these ships out AND finish the base game. I just thought to myself "this shit ain't ever coming out". The game is beautiful but at some point you gotta realize that the actual release for this is very far off and therefore so are the ships. They haven't even released some ships that were announced 10 fricken years ago. Just disheartening. I don't want to spend money on something that is either 10 years off or not at all. Not bashing people who do, just saying it is disheartening.
All of what you said is correct. However when you see a concept ship selling for $500 less than what it will cost when it’s released, it’s hard not to be tempted. The cynical side of me just doesn’t believe it will ever come out or that the game will ever be like we were told it would be. That’s the only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger on the Polaris. You see sporadic work on it in the progress tracker, but whatever. For some perspective, CR said Pyro and 4.0 would be out early to mid 2020. Three years later we’re still not even close. Squadron 42 will be the undoing of Star Citizen and CIG.
A basic counter argument to your point would be that by buying in early on a ship you are reasonably sure you will permanently want can save you money in the long run. How much was the Polaris originally verse current price? And then there's the CCUs right? Your comments didn't really mention concept CCUs, but sometimes it's worth buying them purely for the warbond discounts they give to help you build the ship you really want for cheaper. So you're not wrong, but just some other points to consider. And yea I know the video is a year old but my point was true then too.
I didn't buy my carrack and Zeus MR just because I thought their concepts were cool and they support the game play i want. I also bought them because I wanted to support the project because I believe in the end goals of having a fun game that lets you experience things that arent in any other game. I like the polaris too, but im gonna wait and buy that in game.
I bet this video is going to get shot down pretty quick, but know that you are right. They are not accountable for anything, never will be as long as we buy ideas and cool concepts. The track record speaks for itself. We want to support, all of us do. Its sensitive because ppl enjoy building imaginary fleet comps more than playing the game, and coupled with many years of being involved it creates a huge case of sunk cost fallacy syndrome that makes all efforts to suppress what i consider realities like this. They dont have to finish that ship or any ship, they dont have to finish the game because it might be just as profitible not to. Thats all i want to change.
i am personally boycotting buying anything from cgi until the first modular thing enters the verse. i could sell off my account if cgi keeps enraging me with the concepts. i just want what i have already paid for to come out. most of my concepts i bought 4=5 years ago
CIG are great salesman. they are dreadful at managing their development teams, but they are amazing hype men and salesmen. We all complain about delays (YEARS of delay) and concepts that are literally never finished, but they show a new JPEG and most of those who complain drop their pants and are happy to get fucked with no lube, again. So since buying the CCU to the Polaris when it was made available the first time, I decided to not buy anything else. Now I'm a Polaris owner, but about to melt it, and get some flyable ships instead (will keep a cheap CCU to the Polaris tho.) I love the IDEA of the Polaris, but as soon as I saw how early those concept images were, I knew we were in for another 6 years of waiting, at least.
I don't like them either but at this point If they stopped selling concepts the game progress would grind to a hault or at least move at a snails pace. It's what has allowed them to be able to hire 1000 employees and afford to pay them to build these concept ships. If they stopped it would be a negative I'm pretty certain.
Really shouldn't be buying stuff like that anyway, but it irks me that these concept ships from years ago are still not released, while they are pushing new ships.
Oof.. well this aged as good as milk, considering they are stream building this ship now.. you obviously dont know what you are talking about..😂 also ships bought in concept are cheaper than the release.. and fund that concept of the ship and the game dev itself.. thats why you get a discount and they jack the price when it comes out
Except they are working on the polaris just about already now. It's on the roadmap. It was stated to be the next big ship after the merchantman.. and now that the merchantman has been put on the back burner due to some people leaving cig.. they are now going to work on the polaris. Don't have to believe me, you will see when it's shown to us by cig. It's also not a new concept at all. What we were recently shown was a rework. They aren't going to do a rework then just stop working on it. Why start on the rework if they didn't have plans to finally build it?
We wont see the Polaris until server meshing is complete. Im guessing pretty quickly once meshing goes live. I forgot what the Polaris crew was? Was it 30? If it was only 14 that would require over 10% of the server. Until we get meshing and a PU with several hundred (or thousands) on a single shard. The Capital ships are on the shelf.
Oh.... the amount of people not understanding what they are pledging money to is mind blowing.... 🤦 Its not a promise, its a plan for the finished game. And SC is not a game yet. You are not buying a ship, you pledge money for CIG to make the game including those ships. You do NOT pay them to build the ship as fast as possible. You are not preordering ships.
You do realize this is a crowd funded game right? The whole idea behind these concept ships is to give people something they can go for to help fund this games development. the ships themselves are supposed to be a "thank you for supporting our games development" by the developers. This is literally word-for-word by the developers themselves they have specified this VERY CLEARLY to everyone on their website, forums, and in person to those who have educated themselves by properly keeping up with their feed. Not only that, but when you become a concept backer for any ship, youre helping to support its development. These concept ships are the game communities opportunity to "cast their vote" on what ships they want to see get developed and become part of the game. If no one supports a concept design for a ship by backing it, do you really think that ship will ever come to fruition? not quickly at least... especially if everyone is putting money down for a different ship. You and many others have been looking at all this the wrong way for many.... MANY years and ive been trying for years to explain this to you all who refuse to get it.... I agree with you that a person has the right to spend their money how they wish. But If youre spending money on these ships just because "i want this ship" and not for the reasons i already mentioned, then youre spending money for the wrong reasons. Especially when ALL of these ships will become available to buy in game with in game currency when the game is finished. (again, something the developers stated many... MANY times) Look, im no stranger when it comes to "concept" ships. Im a proud original concept backer for both the Aegis Vanguard and the Aegis Sabre - the ORIGINAL ones - back when they were just introduced as an idea. Yet here they are as some of the best aircraft currently in the game. So yea, im not just talking out of my be-hind as i have actual experience with this and i have yet to have any reason to feel burned by their system as they have delivered. Youre not going to convince me otherwise as history has already proven they pull through. you and many others just lack patience. And now here i am as a proud concept backer for the Polaris as well. Because like you, i agree that this ship is perfect and I want to cast my vote and support its design in the universe. Because i believe in this ships design just as i believe in this game and what it wants to be about and want to see it happen. And if you truly did feel and believe it was a perfect ship as i do, then you should put your money where your mouth is instead of trying to discourage people who genuinely want to just support this game. spout whatever you like about your opinion of their concept system but thats all it is - an opinion. Unless you have proper actual evidence to support your claim that they are just scamming people (because thats essentially what youre accusing them of. lets call it for what it is...) All you have is just conjecture. please do not go around trying to gaslight what you havent taken the time to fully understand. These concept sales are how they find what players like and want all while funding the games production as a whole. youre only serving to sabotage the future of this ship and others. im sorry if you have felt annoyed at how long some ships take. but its not anyones fault if you went in not taking the time to properly inform yourself of what youre getting into. Heavon forbid a ship requiring 6 times as much crew as a heavy fighter takes substantially more time. Yes, they have other big ships shown in the game already. some of them even bigger. Did it ever occur to you however that this is WHY you dont see ships like this yet? did you really expect them to just suddenly spit out ALL the capital size ships all at once? You dont need to be some blind fanboy like so many love to accuse and cancel someones response with that doesnt fall in line with their own similar conjecture, to see what really should be just common sense... Sorry if some of this came out bitter. im just getting really tired of some people acting like this game is like Ark where Wildcard even after 8 years still hasnt changed the games garbage crafting system. Ive been part of this games development for well over 9 years now, back when all it had was an arena death match mode. And i can tell you from experience that their isnt a single thing in this game that they havent updated, changed, or progressed for the better. does it have things go wrong with loads of glitches? sure! but welcome to Alpha games in development nothing ever plays smooth until its done. anyone whos played any MMO on prerelease - let alone in its alpha and beta stages - knows this. Yet They have slowly but steadily continued to add more and more content all while continuously working on the foundations of the game. for a game that is more ambitious than any game made in history by far. Seriously, point out even ONE game that can currently do even half of what this game already does. Im just saying, give these guys some credit thats all...
Star Citizen: Promises the moon (literally) Also Star Citizen: Using same broken UI menuing system since the original alpha ('maybe if I look straight up and squint I can find the "close door" option), and can't run a server with a small number of people for more than an hour before it dies from memory leaks.

I'd be down for that haha
Me too haha people would throw money at their dream ship
Well said.
i realize you are new, so I will go easy on on you.
@@AverageArdvark LOL, as you like. Most people want to know when others think they have made a mistake.
Agree up until the point of the exchange.. You can sell your ships in SC.. And if anythigy they are appreciating more reliably than NFT's..
how can you sell your ships in sc?
It is a monumental project.
....and CIG is using the funding, and a majority of the organization, to produce SQ42, NOT the PU.
Ship team not system team
All of what you said is correct. However when you see a concept ship selling for $500 less than what it will cost when it’s released, it’s hard not to be tempted.
The cynical side of me just doesn’t believe it will ever come out or that the game will ever be like we were told it would be. That’s the only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger on the Polaris. You see sporadic work on it in the progress tracker, but whatever.
For some perspective, CR said Pyro and 4.0 would be out early to mid 2020. Three years later we’re still not even close.
Squadron 42 will be the undoing of Star Citizen and CIG.
pour over my man, CHEMEX. get u some stumptown coffee
French Press is actually really easy bud, just need a good Bur Grinder along with it. Prolly some of the best coffee from it I ever had.
Ah, the BMM, same hype as this is getting, but last year.
Where would we be if CIG wasn't siphoning ship money from PU ship sales, into SQ42?
Well said
seeing that its bigger than the Carrack and Polaris only has 2 decks. makes me want to scrap it and get something else
You like having to climb multiple decks, or do you mean that you are going to scrap the Carrack for this?
i am personally boycotting buying anything from cgi until the first modular thing enters the verse. i could sell off my account if cgi keeps enraging me with the concepts. i just want what i have already paid for to come out. most of my concepts i bought 4=5 years ago
Now I'm a Polaris owner, but about to melt it, and get some flyable ships instead (will keep a cheap CCU to the Polaris tho.)
I love the IDEA of the Polaris, but as soon as I saw how early those concept images were, I knew we were in for another 6 years of waiting, at least.
welp. it's coming out 2024 so. i think it's ok to be excited now lol
I don't like them either but at this point If they stopped selling concepts the game progress would grind to a hault or at least move at a snails pace. It's what has allowed them to be able to hire 1000 employees and afford to pay them to build these concept ships. If they stopped it would be a negative I'm pretty certain.
Meh I got cool loaners for my concept so it works out.. if the Galaxy never comes out then I just got a carrack for half the price :D
This
lol this video was entertaining, compared to all the other boring sc videos!
@Stephen Stansell not true we don't need server meshing for a ship that size. We already have the carrack and the 890 (which is actually bigger).
Oh.... the amount of people not understanding what they are pledging money to is mind blowing.... 🤦
Its not a promise, its a plan for the finished game.
MANY times)
Look, im no stranger when it comes to "concept" ships.
Im just saying, give these guys some credit thats all...
they need to make more ships becouse they dont have enough money if they dont
I wish they would stop building new ships until after fixing at least some of the game bugs. I'm sick of 30k's and broken elevators.
Star Citizen: Promises the moon (literally)
Also Star Citizen: Using same broken UI menuing system since the original alpha ('maybe if I look straight up and squint I can find the "close door" option), and can't run a server with a small number of people for more than an hour before it dies from memory leaks.
New concepts=more lti. Stop. Please.
Soo many hours into the concept 3d model and it will be reworked again in 3-4 years... wasted resources.
