His kindness and desire to spread knowledge is exactly why he would never be accepted into the genius society. He doesn't have the same selfish desire as all the members do in order to be glanced at. This is simply because of how the aeons work, they're attracted to those who are strongly resonating with their path, and if anything, that simple fact reinforces his humanity.
@@Sinon0017 that’s an excellent way to put it. His want to spread knowledge wasn’t as in line with Nous’ principles as the members of the GS so Ratio wasn’t selected to become a member. I definitely plan to touch on that more when I cover the Genius Society members later down the road
he’s that type of character where you can really tell his kindness isn’t superficial he’s not just nice for niceties. or polite because that’s what’s expected of him. he cares so deeply for the world he exists in and the people around him i genuinely think out of all of the star rail cast, he’s the who’s done and continues to do the most for humanity as a whole he’s just so human, in a way that I can’t help but admire
i saw a comment somewhere that talked about the contrast between Dr. Ratio and Ruan Mei, one appears self-centered and arrogant but actually cares much about spreading knowledge to others. The other appears soft-spoken and understanding but is actually self-centered and obsessed with control.
@@ashleuy9 it’s always funny when people list off morally gray characters like ruan, topaz, jade and then somehow ratio makes it in there as well lol like girl- one of those is not like the other.. imagine equating gordon ramsay to satan
As someone who is interested in Dr Ratio's lore and backstory, it's a shame that not much is known about his life from young. However, from his character story 1... It's implied that his parents might have died before he was born or he had a bad relationship with them. As the first character story of Dr Ratio was written under the perspective of a writer/journalist wanting to know about the good doctor's past, the first person they went to wasn't Dr Ratio's parents but his professor. Who was described by the journalist/writer to "have had a significant influence on Dr Ratio's upbringing" or something along the lines. Thus, I have reason to believe that Dr Ratio might have been an orphan or had a bad relationship with his parents. The former is more likely, as his voicelines and character story never mentions anything about his parents but how Dr Ratio rose up to become one of the more important members in the Intelligensia Guild.
@@Cynicalhamptur I see why you come to that conclusion, but I don’t think that necessarily proves he had a bad home life growing up. A teacher/professor can have a big influence on you while still having a good relationship with your parents
Thanks for doing Dr Ratio justice in your analysis. He's my favourite character in the whole game and seeing the fandom mischaracterizing him drives me up the wall. Like... wym he's egoistic, arrogant and and a jerk!? That man literally wishes to spread education, considers every living person important and calls himself a mundanite of all things. Those are NOT values and behavior of a conceited person or a jerk. Yes, he may be rough in the way he acts on his values, but ultimately he always has people's best interests at heart. I swear half the fandom can't read and understand characters and their motivations to save their lives 🙄 There is one moment in particular that grinds my gears and it's when it was revealed that Ratio didn't actually betray Aventurine, but was in cahoots with his plan the entire time. I was absolutely shocked to find out there were still people (and quite a lot of them) who thought that Ratio's betrayal was real and genuine (well, at least that's what I what I've seen my country's part of the fandom), because Aventurine, while talking to the future Aventurine, said something like "maybe he did betray me for real", but I personally interpreted it as Aventurine's fear talking. And while I can understand that it can be interpreted as the possibility of Ratio truly betraying Aventurine, that interpretation comes crumbling down the minute you see Ratio's conversation with Sunday. The moment he said something along the lines of "...a competent scholar knows his position and wouldn't risk what's truly important for the sake of petty pride" (not exact quote, probably) it was clear that this is all an act. I personally didn't believe for a second that his betrayal is real since that would be completely out of character for Ratio, but when he said that phrase I instantly knew that there could be no doubt the betrayal is fake. Sorry for the rant, couldn't help it cause it's something that irritates me to no end and I'm very passionate about Ratio as a character 😂 Anyways, I love him sm! He's kinda like one of those teachers or college professors (who I'm pretty sure everyone had at some point in their lives) that every student is terrified of due to how demanding they are, but ultimately they want their students to actually learn, care about their progress and love their job and field of study. All that talk really takes me back to my college days when I had one of those professors. She taught language history and taught us how to read and speak in Old English (that was so hard and I already forgot most of it, unfortunately, since I don't really use that in my everyday life, but my god was it interesting!!!). Everyone was afraid of her, but she always treated fairly those who actually tried and put effort into learning. It seems to me Ratio might be the same way with his own student. Such a great character, what a pity there's so little known about him in the game. I hope he'll have more in-game appearances in the future and play a larger role in the plot. And I'd also like to mention how much I LOVE his English VA. I know in other languages he's more calm and collected in the way he speaks and the deviation from that affects his characterization in English dub, but... honestly, I think it makes it better. He sounds so passionate in English and hearing him talk is music to my ears.
@@АленаАлексеева-э7н I think this mischaracterization spread bc characters like Dr Ratio tend to be egotistic so it’s what you expect from him, but that’s the whole point of his subversion as a character showing how kind and generous he truly is
