    very, very, underrated video! you broke his character down excellently and in parts, making it much easier to see all aspects of him, not just his outward projection of "narcissism". indeed, dr. ratio is a complex character contrary to what many people view him as. definitely a like from me :)
    (edit: i also wanna mention that its very likely that the reason he was not approached by nous was not because hes not enough of a genius; in fact, quite the contrary as his immense knowledge base and desire to further pursue knowledge are the very essence of the erudition. it is likely that it was because he was not willing to isolate himself from the common people, to stop teaching them and to stand on his own ivory tower like the other geniuses. the other geniuses that we've seen so far have all exhibited some form of uncanny "inhumanness" and true narcissism. herta is a puppet who is brash and does not care for feelings, ruan mei is a cold-blooded biologist, experimenting on sentient and even sapient creatures all to pursue her goal of getting closer to creating or recreating an aeon. screwllum is literally a robot. unlike all of these geniuses, ratio remains grounded and has a desire to help other people get closer to becoming geniuses, to becoming self-sufficient, to dilute the title of genius and to make it a human possibility. therefore, he does not desire the title of "genius" enough to gain the recognition of nous and so he will not be called a genius though he is one by all definitions of the word. he is a human while the ones recognized by nous are geniuses.
    but thats just my take :))
    im so happy that this complex character is given for free tbh and hes really strong. i even pulled his light cone :D one of my favorite characters right now, but its hard to choose because all of the hsr characters are so good 😭)

      Absolutely love your take on that actually! This actually does make a lot of sense actually, and can also be maybe one of the reasons Ratio gameplay wise is a the hunt unit - Lan is an aeon that promotes justice and vigilantism (as said by the galaxy rangers creed) interestingly enough what Ratio does can indeed be considered a kind of justice after all he wants to take matters into his own hands to grant knowledge to people fairly
      Either way loved reading this! I really like seeing what others think:D and yeah I'm really glad he was free! He is a truly incredible character

    • @softtacos1
      @softtacos1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @velynda_lee even though gameplay paths tend to be unrelated to the character's actual path (I mean, Jing yuan is an emanator of the hunt but he's erudition in game), I like that interpretation and it does make sense with respect to his personality. Execute justice and spread the truth, no matter how painful it is!!!

      Can you not discredit Screwllum to prop up this man.... calling him "jUst a RoBot" is such a disrespectful statement cause dude is probably the easiest to talk to out of all of them. Kinda of telling the only member of the society that doesn't have a problem or and annoying feature about them and is just solid dude is boiled down to "hE's jUst a RobOt" Especially when we have seen characters like Svarog in the game literally change before our eyes

    I need a rerun of this man, I wasn't playing when they gave him for free 😭I love his character so much. I thought I'd hate him but dammit I was caught...I respect him so much, being this guy that's highly intelligent but still being close enough to earth to shine his rays on those who need help.
    Let's be real, he'd make me cry, I'm a moron lmao!! But it's amazing that he's the type of person who would be like "Ah, so you acknowledge the fact that you have flaws and are, undoubtedly, an idiot. That's the first step. Let's carry on with the next.." I think we all need a Ratio in our life: someone who is blunt, will give a good kick in the ass, but also help you on your way forward to improvement.

    I really liked the video!
    According to the databank, to join the ranks of the Genius Society you need two things. First, you need a direct invitation from Nous to join him in his quest to study and understand the Universe. Second, you must acknowledge that the Truth of the Universe cannot be comprehended by mortal minds. The 2nd requirement is equally important as the 1st. Ratio clearly and firmly stands against the idea of the Truth being beyond the reach of ordinary minds and Nous would obviously know of this so he would never extend an invitation to Ratio in the first place, no matter how smart Ratio actually was. This is my interpretation of the situation anyways.

    • @velynda_lee
      @velynda_lee  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      That actually makes a lot of sense! Nous saying the truth cannot be acknowledged by mortals goes against Ratio's ideals of wanting to spread knowledge to everyone equally
      But that would also mean Ratio is not aware of how Nous picks genius society members which also seems to make sense :D! And Thank you so much! Glad to hear you liked the video

      @@velynda_lee You're welcome! Ratio has definitely been on my mind these days and I've kept trying to analyze other stuff about him, like, why is he suddenly on good terms with the MC? To the extent that he even offers to write them a letter of recommendation if they ever want to get into college. Or how when he takes a break from work his first idea is to text the MC and ask them to entertain him with brain teasers lmao. It's like being adopted by a stray cat lmao.

    • @BlackSkarrow
      @BlackSkarrow 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@velynda_lee Omg somehow it completely slipped my mind about when this takes place... it all happens before Belobog, essentially? And it happens after the incident with Silverwolf trying to claim the Aether Cartridge (because MC knows who Screwllum is).
      Which means when Ratio first meets MC, they're still feeling lost and unsure about themselves and their place in the world. Especially with a literal Stellaron inside their body that's so dangerous it's like a ticking time bomb that could destroy them from within at any moment.
      This, combined with the fact that MC is also a walking memelord, a raccoon, and a problem child.... there was no hope in hell for Ratio-sensei to resist 😤 He needed to stage an intervention asap.

    you get it!! i definitely also believe dr. ratio has a sense of heavy sense of self-preservation, but it moreso stems from his belief in basically clean, healthy body = clean mind, which i believe is drawn from ancient greek ideals (i.e. his lightcone and voice line about hobbies) But this was a fantastic video!! ❤️❤️ i’m glad you’re able to dissect his character and give him more beyond the usual mean/narssicistic label ppl tend to give him!

    Though i agree with how he is very grounded with reality- I think he is grounded with reality in a more negative way rather than any other way. Though that doesn't mean he doesn't see the positive outcomes, he sees the positive outcomes when he looks at it in a negative way, for example the people here will suffer more if they do not learn that they can't always rely on higher ups, if they don't learn that they will ,one day, have the worst possible outcome. Also he sees other people in his own self-centered way, his teaching way is very tough, which is fine if we look at it in Dr Ratio's perspective since being though means you can improve- learning from pain. But he doesn't seem to realize people also can break due to it. Yk like those mothers who are mean to their kid bc if they don't teach them that they will be in trouble in the future, while not realizing they are making the reletionship between the subject and the kid worse.

    • @ymitions
      @ymitions 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also imo he is better with teaching rather than convincing. He can't change minds but he can improve them.

    • @ymitions
      @ymitions 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wait a second thought maybe he does know people CAN break due to a try of improvement in his way. but it is for the better. Like a doctor! They can die yes there are risks but they can get cured for the better. Yk?

    • @ymitions
      @ymitions 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly this second theory is much fitting if u consider his way of teaching as a teacher. People either pass or fail

    • @velynda_lee
      @velynda_lee  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ymitions yes thats right!
      He'd rather see them break than never try - even if they detest him and his ways of teaching - being liked has never been the point
      He'd rather be hated for teaching them than not teaching them at all
      No one will take criticism and reality the same - some people will take it, and others will cast it aside -
      But regardless of what they choose, He always wants to at least give them the perspective that they do have a choice, that their lives can be improved.
      A pill can be hard to swallow, and some will take the pill and survive, and others may not. But regardless, they all at least tried to be better than themselves in the attempt

  • @trulymrword

    I believe that the Path of Erudition and Dr. Ratio's Philosophy are incompatible even at the basic definition of the word. Erudition after all refers to a state of exceptional knowledge, one which by design isolates an erudite except from other like-minded people. However what Ratio seeks to cure would make it so the standard of becoming an genius would be higher and higher because he wishes to raise the knowledge and wisdom of every student.
    That brings into question, if Ratio could teach students to eventually reach let's say Herta's level of sophistication and intelligence would Herta still be considered a genius now that her capabilities are the norm? So I propose that Ratio's philosophy for curing ignorance is if not a natural enemy of Erudition, something innately compatible.
    Dr. Veritas Ratio's conviction and ideals may even lead a new Path, one where the resources to seek out the truth are only limited to one's will and desire to understand.
