Beautiful bird, but the counter rotating props must cause difficult maintenance. The gear boxes driving those props must be a real headache to maintain. I understand that in the 1950's Russia had no efficient, powerful enough and reliable turbojet engines, but in the decades since then they couldn't develop one?

My summer house is near Tu-95 airfield, they fly a lot above me at low altitude, I like it. They also fly a pair of An-2, Il-76 and supersonic Tupolevs

Beautiful aircraft. Many years ago I had the privilege of attending the Farnborough air show in England. The Russians presented their Backfire Bomber and you could probably hear its take off roar in central London. They also demonstrated one of their fighters performing the cobra where the plane nose is raised until its vertical just like the cobra snake does.. It then falls tail first before the pilot lowers the nose and resumes normal flight. Someone below has mentioned the movie Dr Strangelove. It's a great comedy film where Peter Sellers plays the part of the American president. A USA B52 is mistakenly on its way to "nuke" Russia. Sellers has to phone the Russian president to break the bad news. The conversation goes roughly as follows" Hello Dimitri. How are you? Yes, I'm fine too. We have a little problem Dimitri. Yes, it's not supersonic. But, he does not need to go into the enemy's range. Throws cruise missiles back and forth. And they are constantly guarded by fighters.

Wrong. Tu-95 has many modifications. Last modification of B-52 - B-52H was manufactured in 1962 and was never produced again. Russia has latest modification of Tu-95 - Tu-95MS and they were build in 80s and 90s. Last was manufactured in 1992. So, american bombers are 60 years old. and Russian bombers are half time younger - 30 years. They can perform any modern warfare. In Syria they used modern Russian strategic cruise missiles - Kh-101. B-52 cannot do anything similar. Though, your master Americans has 1.5 more ancient B-52s than Russian has relatively modern Tu-95.

@@josiahricafrente585 Yes, true. But latest modifications of Tu-95 even look completely different from first modifications of 50s. Russia decommissioned all planes made in 50s, 60s and 70s. Currently only those built in 80s and 90s serve in Russian air force. They use completely different weaponry and avionics. Plane is still very useful. States still use ones built in 50s and 60s. Unlike B-52 , Tu-95 is much more economical in terms of fuel and has refueling system. It still can fly for day and so, it can do long and far patrol flights. B-52 didn't have any new modifications since 60s.

All I’m really saying is that both the Bear and the Stratofortress are impressive in that they somehow seem to keep chugging along, and even outlast their successors. For example, there’s already talks of our B-1Bs getting put out of service soon, but the B-52 will remain in service well into 2050s. I’m really not here to argue about which is better, or more modern. I’m just here to enjoy this impressive aircraft.

I find it interesting that Russia and the US are STILL flying cold war aircraft. It must say something about good design from the beginning.
Mostly because of their ability to stay in the air for long periods. Tu-95's proved to be exceptional ELINT/SIGINT platforms for this reason.

In my opinion I think the Roar of an Antonov AN-22 although it has the same engines as the TU-95 Bear is quite a noise. I love the sound of the AN-22.

Был он недавно у нас на доработках в Таганроге.А когда-то его выпускали на заводе Димитрова.

Currently only those built in 80s and 90s serve in Russian air force. They use completely different weaponry and avionics. Plane is still very useful. States still use ones built in 50s and 60s. Unlike B-52 , Tu-95 is much more economical in terms of fuel and has refueling system. It still can fly for day and so, it can do long and far patrol flights. B-52 didn't have any new modifications since 60s.
@@AlexanderTch I’m not entirely sure what you’re trying to get at here. All I’m really saying is that both the Bear and the Stratofortress are impressive in that they somehow seem to keep chugging along, and even outlast their successors.
For example, there’s already talks of our B-1Bs getting put out of service soon, but the B-52 will remain in service well into 2050s.
I’m really not here to argue about which is better, or more modern. I’m just here to enjoy this impressive aircraft.

Wow, the shockwaves from those huge counter-rotating props set off car alarms! I read that the props are so noisy that American F-15 interceptor pilots get headaches showdowing these TU-95 off the coast of Alaska at 30,000,000 feet.
