Afraid of what? An inconsistent power band? I’m gonna be honest I don’t ride or anything like that but I’m really into cars and engines and whatnot. I put a shitty little 49cc 2 stroke on a peddle bike and that was fun and whatnot but it had its drawbacks. Ofc every motor has its drawbacks but I feel like the 4 stroke is just better than the 2 stroke. I’m not saying it’s not cool or whatever but let’s look at it like this, 2 stroke- you need to mix oil with the gas and the powerband isn’t linear/consistent, but at the same time it’s a more simple setup and it MIGHT make more power than a 4 stroke by a couple hp depending on what you compare it to. With 4 strokes it’s slightly more complicated but at the end of the day, 4 stroke technology is just more advanced in every way. We have 4 stroke motors in basically everything lol. I’m not saying that necessarily makes it better but I just think that makes the “reliability” argument invalid. 4 strokes have a more linear power band, they’re more efficient, and (a big one for me) you don’t have to use a gas mixture. Plus they sound cooler to me😂. I see the appeal of 2 strokes, like yeah they’re kinda cool and the technology behind them is as well but I just don’t see a whole lot of mind blowing pros. First of all, mixing oil is not an issue, in racing you only use high octane gas so who cares. Now that's that out of the way, lets talk about the inconsistent powerband. A 2 strokes gets more power at higher rpm. So it makes little power at low revves but high power at high rpm. This forces the driver to hammer the bike and therefore make him better/ faster. A 2 stroke delivers more power than a 4 stroke. a 125cc 2 stroke completely rapes a 250. It does that because of a few reasons, more power (HP and NM) and the bike is a lot lighter which matters a lot when you are driving it very actively. The " big pro if weight issue for you" is bullshit. Lighter is always better in motocross. A high performance 4 stroke dirtbike requires a rebuild after about 40 hours so reliability is not the most important aspect of it. Modern 4 strokes are getting quite close to 2 stroke power, but still lack about 20%, which is alot. I mean a little 65cc bike makes 17hp at the wheel! (2020 model ktm) the 125 model makes almost 39 hp! The 4 stroke variant 125 makes barely 30 hp. But in the end, if you are having fun its all great.
That and the limited market for two strokes tends to push people to four strokes. I honestly wouldn't mind a four stroke dual sport for cruising around Colorado and hitting a plethora of trails due to fuel economy alone.

@@danieldustin6211 they were literally designed to redline, they are built so that all the parts can handle the forces necessary at redline because the 2t powerband ensures that you have to be redlining for power, you will never see a two stroke going fast while bogging because their power curve is almost straight up, unlike a 4 stroke the two stroke is made for handling higher revs better while the 4 stroke needs lots of work if you want to be banging off the redline.

If you want more low end torque and easier to just get up and ride without having to worry about as much wear 4 stroke but if you want the speed and acceleration of a vehicle then 2 stroke. Nothing wrong with preference nothing to hate on. They both have their own pros and cons and at the end of the day their both quite fun.
I had only ridden four strokes my whole life and when I first got a two stroke I fell in love. I love how much more light and flickable they feel and not having as severe of engine braking, on my dad's 530 if you let off the gas quick in second gear without pulling the clutch its like you slammed the rear brake. I do like the more linear power of four strokes at times but the modern 300's pretty much feels like a four stroke with minimal engine braking and smoke coming from the exhaust
This is me on my warm up lap before before pulling up to the starting gate, that way I'm not even on the competitions radar! The gate drops and when when everyone rolls off the throttle for turn one , I grab a gear and ride around um !! Haha ha , another podium for me ! LuvD
I've ridden both as a kid 2 stroke and after I went from Basketball to football I gained 100lbs, so I rode a Raptor 660 and a Honda XR400 at 6,2" 280lbs, and the Raptor and the bike were both amazing. I did switch to a Ohlins shock on the bike because of the squat. But I rode the hell out of that thing all through dry creeks in Fresno and los Gatos Creek Park. Amazing days in Cali.

What will blow up your bike however is if you are on the limiter for a longer period of time without cooling, say you stand still and hold the limiter for 1-2 minutes straight. I prefer the two strokes in litterally every scenario because they are unkillable, unlike my 4 stroke that keeps dying. the two strokes dont need any work at all until a topend replacement unlike a 4 stroke which needs valve readjustment every track day and the two strokes will last a long time wheras a 4 stroke tend to explode after a hundred or so hours of redlining. talk about these things once you have experience with them.

@@danieldustin6211 they were literally designed to redline, they are built so that all the parts can handle the forces necessary at redline because the 2t powerband ensures that you have to be redlining for power, you will never see a two stroke going fast while bogging because their power curve is almost straight up, unlike a 4 stroke the two stroke is made for handling higher revs better while the 4 stroke needs lots of work if you want to be banging off the redline.

Iiii don’t know man…. I never had my own 2 stroke but I’ve been on them and they definitely seem more aggressive/track oriented.
Two strokes are better on track and on trail. Just look at the Enduro. Only reason it's changed is environmental reasons.

I think it’s fine to have preferences based on what suits someone. If you want more low end torque and easier to just get up and ride without having to worry about as much wear 4 stroke but if you want the speed and acceleration of a vehicle then 2 stroke. Nothing wrong with preference nothing to hate on. They both have their own pros and cons and at the end of the day their both quite fun.

I had only ridden four strokes my whole life and when I first got a two stroke I fell in love. I love how much more light and flickable they feel and not having as severe of engine braking, on my dad's 530 if you let off the gas quick in second gear without pulling the clutch its like you slammed the rear brake. I do like the more linear power of four strokes at times but the modern 300's pretty much feels like a four stroke with minimal engine braking and smoke coming from the exhaust

I've ridden both as a kid 2 stroke and after I went from Basketball to football I gained 100lbs, so I rode a Raptor 660 and a Honda XR400 at 6,2" 280lbs, and the Raptor and the bike were both amazing. I did switch to a Ohlins shock on the bike because of the squat. But I rode the hell out of that thing all through dry creeks in Fresno and los Gatos Creek Park. Amazing days in Cali.

What will blow up your bike however is if you are on the limiter for a longer period of time without cooling, say you stand still and hold the limiter for 1-2 minutes straight. Both 2 strokes and 4 strokes are purposesly built to handle beeing on max revs often, if you have cooling that it's
