50CC SHAFT / PW50 RACE AT COWBRANCH MX

After just missing a qualifying position, placing 15th out of 37 kids, at the Loretta Lynn's South East Area Qualifier at SOBMX on Saturday, Feb. 25th, Michael decided he wanted to make the 3 hour trip back north to Cowbranch MX in Macclesfield, NC for the Coastal Carolina Motocross 2023 Spring Season Opener.
He walked away with 1st Overall in the 50cc Shaft Race, even after getting hung up in the gate on his first moto, starting him in the back of the pack. Moto 2 went a lot smoother with a holeshot and leading every lap til the checkered flag to take the overall win. His 50cc 4-6 Race on his Cobra Jr didn't go as planned. He had subpar starts in both motos. He was able to salvage a 3rd place in Moto 1. In Moto 2, he crashed and the bike shut off in the 3rd turn on the first lap after making a pass for 2nd and from then on the race was a game of catch up. He managed to pass a few kids but getting back up to the front wasn't in the cards for him. He took home 5th Overall in 50cc 4-6.
In the end, we were extremely proud of the effort he put forth. Going to school all week, packing up and leaving for SOBMX in SC at 4am in the morning, straight into racing an LLAQ, then traveling 3 hours back north to NC to race all day the next day made for a very busy weekend and he absolutely killed it.
