The George Teague play vs Miami is my favorite. That 92-93 Bama defense was as good as I have ever seen. Miami had a very good team, were favored by 14 points, but they did not score an offensive touchdown. The number of interceptions Bama had that year might have set a record.
George Teague’s stripping Lamar Thomas was a great play but it was called back. Teague also had a pick six against Miami in ‘92. The greatest play in college football history especially Alabama history is Tua’s 2nd & 26
Actually, because of this play, the penalty on Bama meant Miami just has to take the penalty yards instead of getting additional yardage added on to the massive gain that play would have had. Plus that receiver was known as one of the fastest in the game, and the fact that not only did Teague come from WAY back to catch him, he took the ball from him mid-stride, means that this one is easily the #2 biggest play behind 2nd and 26. 👍🏻
Very well done. Obviously now we need to add 4th and 31. Also, I'm old so I would like to add the Kick (Van Tifton) and the Sack (Cornelius Bennett) to my list. PS: I saw both of them live!
That TJ Yeldon play is severely underrated. It boosted his draft stock and also solidified his place as one of the better backs at Bama when fans look back. Also, the media spent that entire year questioning if he could be the bell cow for them. That shut them right up. The entire game was spent kicking the ball as well. The game felt more like a loss till that little shit saw space and took it 😂
Old enough now to have seen 13 NCs by the Tide in my lifetime. 6 by Bear. 1 by Stallings. 6 by Saban. So much joy and so many great and memorable plays it’s hard to pick the greatest. ROLL TIDE!
I got to see 78 and 79 Bear championships, and the rest. I was a freshman in high school for the 78. I was born in Alabama but we moved to Michigan when I was young. I've always bled Crimson though. I had 11 Alabama shirts, and wore one every day. I got a lot of grief from the Wolverine fans, but with two nattys during my high school time, they got to suck it! Roll Tide!
This is a great list. So glad you remembered Tyrone Protho’s amazing catch behind the back of the Southern Miss defender. But Let’s be realistic. This program has had way too many incredible moments to limit it to just 5 1/2 minutes. Forget about the fact that it needs to be updated to reflect the 2023 Iron Bowl, there’s still so much missed. Metchie blistering the Florida defender who intercepted Mac Jones in the 2020 SEC Championship. Amari Cooper’s 99 yard touchdown reception. Marcell Dareus intercepting the Texas freshman and throwing him down like a rag doll in the 2009 championship. Pretty much anything by Shawn Alexander 😂 Cornelius Bennett’s epic sack on the Notre Dame QB. Van Tiffin’s kicking against Bo Jackson’s Auburn team. The Goal Line Stand.
I got to know Prothro. When I was in college I worked with him when he was at Regions bank. People pestered him all damn day about that catch. He was always friendly to them and smiled and laughed, but behind the scenes it wore him down. He told me he struggled for a while about being forced out of the game due to the injury and struggled with the what if, but he finally met a nice lady and had a beautiful family so it all worked out. He also ended up doing well for himself....maybe not hall of fame money but like I told him he could also play what if he ended up broke like so many NFL players and didn't mature into the man he became. I'll never forget that day because he just laughed and said damn you right.
We’re so lucky to have had all these great players and teams. I grew up and still live about 30 minutes from Bryant Denny so I’ve got to see some great plays over the years. I couldn’t imagine being a fan of any other school. Roll Tide!!!
I think the Honorable Mention list could have held one more entry...the 1985 Iron Bowl final drive that was mostly Mike Shula to Al Bell in just over a minute from deep in Bama territory, then the incredible 52 yard kick by Van Tiffin. Just...Wow!
I enjoyed this video! Now you're gonna have to add 4th and 31. It's ironic that all Bama fans heard for 3 years was the kick 6. Now, the shoe is on the other foot.
Lots of great plays, obviously a young fellow. Look up Rocky Stop, Roman Harpers best play at Bama. The goal line stand, Shaun Alexander has many to choose from. Antonio Langham’s pick against Florida. Derrick Thomas, Bennett vs ND. Roll Tide I’m just glad you picked 10 and as a fan base there’s still plenty of leftovers!
Wow this video is actually pretty accurate. I think 2nd & 26 is the greatest play in college football history. Also the onside kick in 2015 solidified Nick Saban in my mind of being the GOAT
There were three or so plays in the Van Tiffin '85 Auburn game that were big on the last drive. And forgotten game but '98 LSU game when we scored twice with two mins to play to win. Took away a TD pass that became INT, and big go ahead TD with seconds left. UT '73...Rutledge to Wheeler opening TD pass, then Robin Cary punt return for TD late followed by Wilbur Jackson 80 yd TD run to seal it. So many memories....
The Yeldon screen vs LSWHO and the Terrance Cody block are my 2 favorites from the Saban era. I was on my knees for the Cody block. That was before Alabama had had any real success under Saban and it was life or death. Anytime you can take the lead vs LSU with less than a minute to go is big as well. 😂 As far as all time, the George Teague strip on Lamar Thomas from Miami is the best play I've ever seen from Alabama in my lifetime. I was 13 years old. I remember going to school and all the kids teasing me about being an Alabama fan and saying that they were going to lose. I was losing my mind when George ran that big mouth clown down. Going to school after that game was sweet indeed. I have to say, with all the Chips Saban won, that one in 92 was the most dominant IMHO.
You included the 1992 George Teague play. I would have also included the Antonio Langham INT return from the game before this one that turned out to be the SEC Championship winning score. All of your top 10 is so good, I guess I'd put it as an honorable mention.
Wow... you went ALL THE WAY BACK to the mid-90's. I guess it is a LITTLE hard to find video from the 60's and 70's. It was nice to see Dabo lose his mind after the on-side kick LOL
I got a few oldies to add... 1) Wilbur Jackson 80 yd run vs Tenn 1973 to seal huge win. 2) Terry Davis 22 yd TD run to cap furious comeback late in '72 Tenn game. 3) Steadman Shealy TD run Aub 1979. 4) Penn State punter kicks ball into blocking back 1982; we take over and score twice to beat eventual natl champ Penn State. 5) Seven stops on goal line, Penn State 1981. 6) Shula to Bell to beat GA in '85 opener. 7) Van Tiffin FG Aub 1985. 8) Thomas Rayam blocked FG vs Penn State 1989. 9) Stacey Harrison blocked FG vs Tenn '90; then winning FG three plays later. 10) Vince Sutton 3 yd pass to beat KY on 4th down in 1988 with 10 secs left. 11) David Palmer punt return TD LSU 1991. 12) 4th quarter comeback GA 1994. 13) Sev plays in furious comeback vs LSU 1998. 14) Alexander TD overtime Fla 1999. ...too many to count.
Love how bama defense shut Johnny football down the second time he played Alabama aggies already thought they had won the game before it got started 😂👍
You have Mt Cody blocking his second field goal of a game which if he doesn't, Alabama doesn't play for a national championship as an honorable mention?? Then a touchdown pass against Georgia State as #5?????
The Goal line stand needs to be top 3 on any Bama list. Not the 4th down play but the 2nd down play by Don McNeal. Van Tiffins kick in 1985 is also a big one. Linnie Patricks unbelievable run against Auburn in 1981 should be on there before any play against Ga state.
Julio Jones vs LSU? Dennis Riddle vs Auburn? Burgdorf to Toderick Malone? Barry Krause on 4th and goal? Antonio Langham pick6? Van Tiffin Kick? Sherman Williams td vs Ohio State? Kenny Stabler mud run?
All due respect to prothro, my favorite all time is Reggie Grimes swatting down a UF pass, catching it before it hits the ground, running around the side rather than up the middle and outrunning the UF players to the end zone. Just impressive since he was more known for strength than speed.
Number one will probably start number one for a long time solely because of the events leading up to it.. vanilla Vick, Jake Coker, was not gonna be denied his ring either, that was a Cinderella team if I’ve ever seen one.. hardly anyone returned, original starting qb lost a game early, and Jake can’t in and never looked back! The last 5 or 6 years I’ve stepped back from the arrogant fan I was the first 10, because I knew Saban was going to eventually leave so I started enjoying it good or bad instead of being so heated about it all the time and those years were way better.
Most of those plays wouldn’t make the top 500. You rated a TD reception vs a 1AA school as greater than a national title winning goal line stand vs Penn State.
You have number 1 right, but the best plays have to have significance to the the rest of the season. Beating way less opponents with a big play has been done by many teams. Who cares. Either way RTR!!!
These are only plays from like the last 20 years. You're probably a 20-year-old fan. Phillip Doyle FG vs UT belongs in every highlight reel if it concerns Alabama. Especially since the play before we blocked their kick, Stacye Harrison, just set the field goal up.
Wasn't there an epic Alabama game where a play caught the ball and dodged with tricks like 4-5 players to run in for a TD? I can't remember the name of that game
How is George Teague stripping the ball from Lamar Thomas in the '93 Sugar Bowl not here? That was an amazing play by Teague, even if it was called back for a penalty.
Tuas is well deserved bro was different In Mama he could move and Throw absolute dots came into that game at half as a back up true freshmen and won the chip

Can I ask how old you are? I'm 56, the Van Tiffin kick in 85 against Auburn (52 yards) the Goal line stand in 79 by Barry Krause and others, the Teague TD Interception against Miami, the Langham interception against Florida in the 1st SEC Championship game. So many. I'd think you'd be around 35 and 40. Great bunch though.
No goal line stand?? Not sure you can rank the greatest ever. Not even games. You have to rank them in certain percentiles is about the most accurate thing to do. I've seen most of the greatest games and plays going back to the wishbone days. But here's one not on film and a long time ago that deserves mention: Jan 1, 1927>> With about two or three minutes to play, a player blocked a punt vs Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Three plays later we scored, then kicked off and another 3 or so plays the game ended. We were outplayed badly, but tied Stanford that day 7-7, and that boy's effort gained us one of our sanctioned national titles.
I can’t believe you left out the commentary-that’s the best part! They’re in shock!
Gino Toretta 😂😂😂😂
I was there for that. Was in the band. Amazing. Still. Est football game I've ever seen
Actually, because of this play, the penalty on Bama meant Miami just has to take the penalty yards instead of getting additional yardage added on to the massive gain that play would have had. The sack by Bennett is still one of my favs!

He coughed the ball up on a previous drive in Alabama territory. This was redemption
That Drake return when Chris Fowler says “Watch out Kenyan Drake can fly!” Always gets me
I always remember the team reaction.

The best play in Bama history is Kenny Stabler’s run in the mud against Auburn. Period. Yeah, I’m an old guy.
My pops played strong-side guard in that game. Naturally, I love seeing that play over and over again.

The Cody block won us the game, but it was a fluke. Cody blocked it with his armpit.
The George Teague play, (2:20) running down the WR on Miami and stealing the ball away!!! All-Time play!
You included the 1992 George Teague play. I would have also included the Antonio Langham INT return from the game before this one that turned out to be the SEC Championship winning score. All of your top 10 is so good, I guess I'd put it as an honorable mention.
Every time I see the Prothro play it breaks my heart a little bit. Maximum Block will always be 1 for me, but this is a very good list. Roll Tide!

The George Teague strip against Miami didn't even count because we were offside. It's still amazing and kept Miami from scoring.
Wow... you went ALL THE WAY BACK to the mid-90's. I guess it is a LITTLE hard to find video from the 60's and 70's. It was nice to see Dabo lose his mind after the on-side kick LOL

Great bunch though.
your 100 % right.
Really enjoy music but what does this have to do with 10 plays of football!!!
No goal line stand??
Not sure you can rank the greatest ever. Not even games. You have to rank them in certain percentiles is about the most accurate thing to do. I've seen most of the greatest games and plays going back to the wishbone days.
But here's one not on film and a long time ago that deserves mention:
Jan 1, 1927>> With about two or three minutes to play, a player blocked a punt vs Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Three plays later we scored, then kicked off and another 3 or so plays the game ended. We were outplayed badly, but tied Stanford that day 7-7, and that boy's effort gained us one of our sanctioned national titles.
