Awesome shootout Jack! It’s hard to choose, creambacks are some of my favorites but those alnicos are gorgeous!

This was really helpful. What I’m hearing when it switches from double CB’s to the Golds is a frequency shift up in the mid range with an added bit or rasp. I bet those Golds cut nicely. If I had to commit, I’d probably lean toward the blend but I could see double Golds working great as well.

All good, but I found magic in the Les Paul with the Gold speakers. Thanks for posting.

I liked the combination with the strat for the same reasons you said. But the cream backs were fuller and a little less bright with the LP to me. That rig grabbed my rock bone tonight. Another great head-to-head.

Hi Jack. Great comparison as always. Both speakers sound great. The cream sounds narrower frequency wise to me, tight and sweet, beautiful cleans. The alnico extended bass and treble, beautiful cleans also. Together sound great too. Can live with either on the clean to edge of breakup tones. When driven a little more, there is a fizziness I always hear on alnico’s that I don’t like. It shows a bit on the last part of your demo. If I have to choose one for all, I choose the cream.

You’re obviously an accomplished lead player. As more of a rhythm guitarist myself, I would have like you to have split your playing with playing some full chords on the Strat to hear the fullness of both speakers.

I agree with everything you said, but oddly, if push came to shove I'd take the Creambacks with the Fender clean and the beefier Golds with the beefier LP. I liked all of them in every configuration though.

I just got a creamback 10” in the mail yesterday to try out in an amp build I'm working on. It's my take on the 5f1 champ circuit.

Cleans sounded better on the gold, overdriven sounded better on the cream back. I have the creamback on a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia and it really sounds great on this amp and also helps shave off a few pounds of weight. Another advantage of the creamback is that is lighter

The Gold sounds somewhat louder the the creamback. I checked the speakers' datasheets and there's no hint of this, but it's definitely audible over my headphones. The level difference makes it harder to judge the and differences in general sound.

How do the golds compare to the jupiter M10c?

You appear to be running the golds slightly louder than the cream backs. It gives the impression that the golds are better.

@@castleanthrax1833 96 for cream vs 98 for gold, so louder at same volume...maybe turning the volume up on the cream during the comparison would have helped equalize that variable?
