Melissa Van Dijk yes, exactly. The first one I got last year was from ASOS and it didn’t change it’s color, but the newer one is from Douglas and it’s only been like three months or so and it changed. I assumed it could be related to direct sunlight or sth, idk :/
Yes, I always received old stock when I ordered from Douglas.😉 That's why I changed, and now I'm ordering from Deciem only. But maybe it was just coincidence. 🤷🏼♀️

It's a lot to read, and most of it I do not understand. But in one part, they are talking about oxidization. Maybe you can figure it out. 😀(It's a lot to read 😆 and most of it is irrelevant for us 😉 )
In this case, I will go with what The Ordinary says, but when it changes color, I don't use it anymore. But the new one that I received a couple of months ago still looks good :)

I bought from lookfantastic, and my 60ml bottle came like the lactic acid color. I first was like what is this mess. But now I found your video.
Update, I let the website know about my problem and they refunded my money. It's probably oxidized and not usable.
I bought mine new at Sephora and it came yellow. I didn’t even know it was supposed to be clear
According to the Ordinary, it won't matter. But I am always a bit sceptical, especially if it is "really" yellow. If it only has a slight yellow hue, then I wouldn't worry too much.

yes, the ordinary is considered affordable but it is not considered cheap in Asia.. it can be cheaper especially when u minus the shipping and etc..
a lot of asia buyer is kinda worried because some of the stock, came from China and the authenticity of it cannot be verified..
hence i always buy from authorized reseller although it always run out of stock or not as cheap..
about the alpha arbutin, yes, mine arrived in a slight yellowish color *not colorless. and it is apparently a new stock cuz they just replenish the stock and authorized reseller..
my old alpha arbutin stayed *yellowish abit* never turned pink. even after a year.
but i store all my product in my room, away from moisture and UV

And some of their products are even produced in china... most of them are not, but some are.. So it can be cheaper if they do not have to ship it as far. Because when I lived in Australia, shipping costs from China were pretty low, or I got free shipping most of the time. So it may depend on the country you live in 🤷🏼♀️
But it's always good to be a bit skeptical.
I think most of the time, you are getting an old stock, even if you buy it from an Authorised retailer in Asia. If you have different laws and probably not as strict as here in Europe, they still can sell you the products, which is, in my opinion, a very dirty business. I don't think that The Ordinary is involved, but some of the more prominent retailers for sure.

Hi Melissa, I have been an avid silent watcher of you, and am very grateful for all the tips. I recently bought the ordinary ascorbic acid + alpha arbutin and upon delivery have noticed that it was already yellow in color. And I tracked the barcode and confirmed that it was an older stock. However, I also read that upon oxidation vitamin c turns yellow, and will be less effective. Should I continue to use it? Other than the color, the texture and smell does not have a problem. Thank you
Hello Lea, 😃 if it has only a light yellow hue, it is still okay. However, if it turned yellow or even dark yellow, I wouldn't use it anymore. Because then it could have some adverse effects on the skin. But my advice would be to get a replacement or try to get the money back because that should not happen. Sadly that is very often the case, especially with Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) products.

Hello ! Your video is really helpful i just wanna know that my Alpha Arbutin old bottle look slightly yellowish, but in another video of yours u have mentioned that only new bottle looks yellowish and old bottle looks clear (whitish). So is my old yellow looking Alpha arbutin bottle is fake?
I meant that the newer versions seem to have this issue more. But they all have it, but I don't know what's causing it.

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar. It is not be confused with other acids like salicylic or glycolic acids, which exfoliate away dead skin cells. ❤️So you can add as much as you want, or until the skin can't absorb it anymore 😉

I would also like to add to my skin routine: Retinol, Niacinamide, AHAs, BHAs and some mask too !!! My skin is normal with some fine lines (mainly expressions lines) in my eyes and dark spots in my cheeks from sun exposure! ❤️
ps: I must put the toner after the cleanser. Am I right?
You can replace Alpha Arbutin, which you also use in your PM routine, with a Retinol (Otherwise, it's going to be a bit too much)...
Depending on the Retinol you may want to use, it's not necessary to use an oil and/or moisturizer afterward, but this depends on your skin and how it feels😅
You can also add Niacinamide in your AM routine when not using Vitamin C. Niacinamide can be applied before or after Alpha Arbutin as it's also a water-based serum.
You already use an AHA(Lactic Acid), which is fine to use! Depending on the mask you want to use (like the peeling solution which contains AHA and BHA), please do not use Lactic Acid on that day. Toner is not a must! This depends on your preference. Keep in mind; the Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution is not a "gentle" toner; it's an exfoliator like Lactic Acid.

Thanks melissa, 2 weeks ago I bought new bottle, but it was already orange, I thought it was oxidized. Do you think I should worry about it? As u said the eficacy remains same, but I would prefer having the white ones, because those gave me the best results. The orange ones seems like with no effect, and like oxidized

To summarize, there is a concern that some of the product may have transformed into hydroquinone due to high storage temperatures. However, this issue seems to be resolved when it is stored at lower temperatures again. Essentially, the information is unclear, as the available papers are not very enlightening. In this case, if you believe it makes a difference, I would suggest asking for a replacement or, at the very least, a refund, and then ordering a new bottle.

I think the ordinary demand is high in most places around the world. There are a lot of 3rd parties seller on online marketplace. I've read some review about the product that smells like glue or different shape of the bottle cap so I suspected that there are fake product somewhere
Hello :) No, I will publish another video which I recorded today. This is normal. The bottle "cap" can change as well, and I have many different versions, which I will show in the video. They are from an other stock. So far, I haven't seen any. All the videos on TH-cam and the emails that I receive use Original products. Some of them are just 2-3 years old. That's why they are different :) Some Ordinary products smell like "Glue" because they are fragrance-free, but they have a masking fragrance, and it can smell a bit chemical depending on the ingredients used.

That's normal. This is because of the way you apply it and/or the amount of product you have used. It's not fake.

Hi Melissa! My alpha arbutin when it is in the bottle is like a hand sanitiser gel texture! it does not sit like liquid but is more "solid" so it does not come up easily in the pump... but once i get some out, the "gel" turns really watery immediatley and i can't even hold on to the product as it leaks like water. is that weird?? the first bottle i had was pinkish but had a much more normal serum texture - kinda thick and sticky. I bought from different sellers. TIA!
Hello 😃 It sounds like an old bottle to me, or the serum wasn't appropriately stored. So I wouldn't use that anymore. Try to get a refund.

As for mine, the product manufacturing date in 2019, the selles said because she ordered from.korea so the date is usually backdated 😣
The shelf life is three years. So it should still be alright when it was closed correctly.

I just purchased my new Alpha arbutin from the ordinary and I had it in the box for awhile and I was finishing up my old bottle. When I open the new bottle it's like a light orange colour and my alpha arbutins have always been clear. Is it because I had it in the box for a awhile?
I assume yes, it just does that over time. But The Ordinary says that it will not lose its efficacy, so I guess we have to trust them 😉

No, stop using it because the Vitamin C can oxidize over time or if it hasn't been stored properly.

No, it just smells a bit chemically. So all of the products have a "natural" scent. But it has no added fragrance! :)
If the product not fake, but why I applied it and tomorrow I got to many small pimples on my forehead. I just bought this TO AA from another store. It is little bit different from the old TO AA I have, like you said in the video. But the blue code below on the bottle is a dark blue code color not like a baby blue color. Is the product not fake? Well, breakouts can happen for many different reasons. Most of the time = you haven't cleansed your face correctly, or your skin needs to adjust to the product. This is not an indicator of a fake product. It can change; please watch the following video:

Those are new bottles from The Ordinary, but I do not speak Korean. So I cannot help you.
Its not fake as deciem have a store itself in Seoul and opening another store there too. It may have been that your seller got it from Korea.

Hi I purchased an Alpha Arbutin a while ago that I stopped using but I wanted to use it again but it has a gel consistency similar to the Niacinamide and the color is slightly pink. Is it still safe and good to use?
Yes, the texture is similar to the Niacinamide. However, I haven't seen a pink one. It is transparent and transforms into a yellowish-orangy colour. I assume that the pink may happen just in between ;)

Hi melissa, i have a doubt, when i use buffet and then i apply gransctive retinoid squalene ( as the regimen deciem says) the granactive doesnt absorb... I feel that it remains on the surface of my face super oily and it is never absorbed, I only apply 2 drops just like Buffet why this happened?
Well, I am sorry, but I can't tell you why this is happening. I assume it is because the buffet is already too sticky when applied on its own. I recommend using them at separate times.

Yeah, it may or may not be an issue. So far, the colour change is rarely an issue, but it also seems NOT associated with hydroquinone formation. I have done a video which you can see here:

I found this video after freaking out when I just opened my new bottle of TO alpha arbutin. I have been buying this product for 2 1/2 years and it was always completely clear, thick like the niacinimide and odorless. The new bottle is like the one you showed, yellowish, thin, and sour smelling. At 1st glance I thought it must be the lactic acid and they packaged it incorrectly. So I think what you are saying is that I just received an old bottle and this is what happens over time? I'm in the US.
Yes, that is what The Ordinary claims, that it will have the colour change over time.

i think mine was already opened and used.. i ordered the salicylic acid solution and the alpha arbutin, and there was more product in the salicylic acid bottle than in the alpha arbutin bottle..

The serum is usually very watery. So this is normal, colour can also change a little, and consistency. It's not sticky. 🙂

but serial number is written on the bottom of the bottle so i am worried if its a fake product...
The number can be placed anywhere..I have bottles where it is on the bottom of the bottle, on the side on the bottle or even on the label itself :)

Correct, if your Alpha Arbutin is new, it should have a clear color, however, it may change the color over time.
According to the Ordinary, you still can use your Alpha Arbutin even though the color has changed.

Order of Application - We suggest using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.

Hello ive bought my products frm a China shop and apparently my alpha arbutin seems to have an older version of packaging/bottle but the content is white and not yellowish (as it supposed to be if it's an older version i guess). So im confused. 😕
Well no, it may not happen with every bottle. I do have one at home that doesn't have it at all, which is weird. But there are some official China shops on the Deciem website so that you may have bought it from an authentic retailer 🤔? (some do sell old bottles that are 1-2 years old...)

The foaming is normal if you rub it into the skin. Also, do you have dry hands? This may be a reason why it is slowly absorbing into the skin. Also, it's important not to use too much of it! :)

Do you have the Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA? If so, the texture is water. There is another one called "The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%," which has an oily texture.
Its been 7 months since i opened my alpha arbutin bottle and its been 6 month since i started using it, now it has changed it's colour to yellowish also it smells weird not like usually it smells so still can i use it ?
There is a little symbol on the bottle with a number next to it which tells you how long it is safe to use after opening.

It is transparent white in colour,,but hasn't changed to yellow yet, I've been using it for three or four days.. , you said that it turns into yellow,,and the package cover saying it is fragrance free,,but I can smell some flowers

How long have you been using it? Did you start with a twice-daily application? If so, you can reduce the frequency to once daily or every other day, giving your skin more time to adjust.

Well, according to the Ordinary, it doesn't matter. However, I did not use Alpha Arbutin much after this video, only for demonstrations, but that was not because of the colour but because I did not need it. Personally, I do not feel good when a product changes colour; if it is only a little bit, then I am okay with it, but if it really turned yellow, probably not no.

Well, I think that you have the right products and that you can achieve great results. From my experience (as a regular user), I believe that pigmentation issues are challenging to treat, especially when they are around the eyes and or mouth. I don’t believe that topical products ( or at least the once available over the counter) can entirely solve it. It’s probably best to consult a dermatologist.
Here is the information you need to build your routine:
The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
1. Water-based serums
2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
Important:
