    I'm a big fan of EV's. And this Citroën - I love it! Well done for continuing to shining a positive, truthful light on the future. I've driven the i-Pace so I'm not blindly agreeing/supporting the tech.

    A generalisation, but I wish the UK population wasn’t so stuck up on what other people thought about them and embraced these sort of vehicles. So they’re not the most sporty or luxurious but they do exactly what you need, get around town with minimum fuss and very economically. Imagine people put more down as a deposit for leasing a car than this costs. Will concede it could do with a little more speed but I believe this is targeted towards the younger continental driver.

      Badge snobbery is still a thing, which has helped the German car industry sell so many cars here but I totally agree with you

    This is the first electric car that I actually want.
    If it was made in China or India how much cheaper would it be ?
    (Cheap transport should be as cheap as possible.)
    Where is the independent service network ? Cheap cars should avoid dealer networks to save money.
    Also it is fast enough but I would want a bigger battery to avoid "range anxiety".

    This is the modern equivalent of the Reva G-Wiz, and perhaps a competitor to the slower less powerful version of the Renault Twizy. With a bit more power and perhaps more range these could soon be found on nearly every street and would be ideal for the rental market.

    This really looks good for a specific purpose. Reminiscent of the Meserschmitt bubble car.

    Great to see your new videos, Mr Willson. You're among the very best motoring journalists (in the world... ever). I'm a big Clarkson fan (especially his writing) and Setright too (you must have crossed paths with LJKS a few times?) and, to me, your opinions and findings are equally as vital to gather.
    I absorbed your used car teachings as a teenager and they've stood me (and family members I've advised) in very good stead ever since, years later.
    Jeremy, Quentin and Tiff, when Top Gear was Top Gear... In my not so humble opinion, the current TG needs knocking on the head: get Tiff back for the supercars, Chris Goffey for the mainstream motors and Quentin on the classics and trade. Perhaps bikes could be covered by that charming Steve Berry. Clarkson I'd love to see in there but I personally prefer his writing to the television persona (his newspapers columns are tightly packed gems of joy).
    Then again, television is constrained by perceived demands of viewers and political correctness, now more than ever... So, I'll be following this channel very eagerly instead, I think I'll find all I could want.

    Nice video. Of the major manufacturers, this was something only Citroen was destined to build. However..!
    The current top selling 4 wheeled "mobility solution" is the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV from China. It comes in two battery sizes, a 9.2kWh or a 13.8kWh. That's about 65 and 85 miles in range. It has a 13 kW (17.4 hp) and 85 Nm (62.7 lbf.ft) motor driving the rear wheels. Top speed is 62mph. It's well put together and reviewers like it a lot. And here's the kicker - in China it sells for £4030 for the very top spec model. And there are cheaper, sparser versions. I would love to see QW road-test that little baby because it is intended for it to come to Europe.

    Great vid as always Mr. W.
    However, much as I applaud Monsieur Citroën, this appears to be only 1 step up from Sir Clive Sinclair's C5-and looked what happened to that.
    (but you're right.. if Citroën can sort speed/range out, they stand a chance). 👍

    Good video Quentin. You mentioned that 4k people have already registered their interest in the UK - what are your thoughts on how many it will take for Citreon to take the plunge with the Ami here?

    • @quentinwillson8918
      @quentinwillson8918  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Who knows. Normally they'd need 20,000 sales in the UK just to make the financials work but since it wouldn't need to be converted from LHD to RHD - the car is so narrow it wouldn't make a difference they might need less unit sales in the first year to give it a try.

Your advocacy of BEV's has been crucial. Don't suppose you would be interested in reviewing the UK spec Citroën Ami Ëlectric? Anyway thanks for making me grin all these years...

    Can this be driven on a cbt license??? Been reading online that it can ? would be perfect for my daughter she drives a moped ,gives me that peace of mind ;)

    • @JonnyJayJonson
      @JonnyJayJonson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wondered about this but I have a feeling that ruling only stands in France... There are a couple of French manufacturers that built 2 cylinder microcars (Ligier is one, off the top of my head) that can be driven in France without a full driving license.
      However, I don't think the UK follows that ruling. Your daughter could consider driving lessons towards getting an automatic license, will certainly be quicker/cheaper than going for a manual license - she can always go for that at a later date - because of course electric cars don't have gears.

    I know it's a natural thing to say for anyone who's ever been close to that absurd Clarkson fellow, but "...IN THE WORLD..." usually leaves out a vast amount ... of the world. 😁
    I'm pretty sure China is swarming with tiny, simple, very very nasty, but still very very cheap EVs that cost no more than a grand.
    Just sayin'... 🤔
