  • Our family of 8 recently replaced our Alaknak with this tent. I wanted to see more details before purchasing but couldn't find a review with those details. So, now that it's here, I made my own review. I did add one more segment with the rain fly off.

    Robin, I wanted to thank you for this review. I'm looking for a new tent for my family. When I saw this on amazon, I had a million questions, so I turned to TH-cam. I wish you could do reviews on every tent. Maybe it's because you are a Mom, but you covered every detail everyone else misses. Thank you for taking the time to help those of us who are searching.

    Thanks for the review I am not a camper but I used your reviews to help me get an idea of how to put this up this past weekend. I to had to put it up myself. It took my about 30 minutes as well. I learned the hard way to put the rain fly over it first next time.

    Robin, thanks for this review. I’m considering purchasing the more recent model of this tent but the only thing that concerns me is the strength and height of the floor tub. Most other tents have a floor tub with 4-6” of tub material up the sides. This one looks like 1” at best. This seems to be the case on all of the CORE tents. Interested in your experience or thoughts. Thanks!

    I'm trying to figure out why core is more expensive than Ozark trail. I just bought a 10 person Ozarks trail dark rest tent . It's a great tent but wondering if core is that much better due to its higher price. I would return my ozark tent and get a core tent if it's that much better

    When you go camping during winter, how do you do it with the bottom air ventilation?

  • @melissaharrison84

    We have this tent. Used it last year and it worked perfectly. Tried using it this year and we could not get the top part to stay up. A little bit of wind knocked it down. We tried for about 2 hrs to set this up and ended up buying a new tent while camping. Anyone else experience this?

  • @Cliew5473
    @Cliew5473 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for the great review. I've been considering getting this tent due to its ventilation as well as being an instant tent. Did you find that the ventilation design really helped to keep it much cooler than most other tents, in the hot sun? We have a tent now that has no windows in the back bedroom area and has a closed roof, and it's like a sauna in there during the day time. :(

    • @robinosteen3078
      @robinosteen3078 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did really feel like it had better ventilation than most tents! It was definitely our easiest and most comfortable! We just retired it a couple of months ago due to the zipper finally giving out. We actually sewed that door shut and just used the door on the other side for about 6 months. ♥️ It was such a great tent for stationary camping but now we're transitioning more into hiking so... Hopefully I'll be doing a review on our kelty six man backpacking tent soon! 😉

    I know this is an older video, but i would like to add me two bits. This tent is excellent for less windy trips, don't try and do stormy weather in this tent as the pop-up nature will just as easiely pop right back down if it gets wet and windy enough. mine collapsed just today during a fairly mild storm front. Also at 4 mins and 4 seconds that darker strip is the slip the rod needs to be slid through. perhaps you've already discovered that.

  • @navajasrs2402

    Great walk through, thanks for taking the time. I was wondering without a basin style floor how it has held up for rain. Also, is that floor tough enough for chairs, cots, tables and so on?
    Thanks again!

    • @robinosteen5710
      @robinosteen5710  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The floor seems to be average tent floor material but we use foam mats so I can't say how it would hold up without the mats. It's kept water out fine. We haven't had a leak yet. :)

    Robin, thanks for your video. We like our 10-man Core tent but can't quite get it packed correctly to fit into the bag. Did you happen to find a video on how to repack the tent nice and neatly??
    Thanks for any advice you or anyone else out there has on this question.

    • @robinosteen5710
      @robinosteen5710  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No... It's in one of our other videos. We never could get it back in the bag. 😏 We take an enclosed 6x12 trailer camping so we ended up buying a "garden bench storage" type box and putting it in our trailer. We just store all of our tents and rain flys in it. If you find another good solution, please comment here again and let us know! 😀

    The tent is super easy to put up IF you have two people. It takes less than 5 minutes. However, I tried to set it up one day by myself and after half an hour I wanted to set it on fire. I never was able to get the top to stabalize without help.

    Is the "D" door hinged like on some of he Colemans, or is it a zippered flap? What are the "D"-door problems you mentioned with your previous tent?

    • @robinosteen5710
      @robinosteen5710  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not hinged. My dislike of D doors comes from years of having to put down everything in my hands (including babies and toddlers) to use both hands to open, close, and unstick the zippers. I don't have any specific complaints about this particular D door. It's above average. I just really enjoy the convenience of the T door. :)

    • @robinosteen5710
      @robinosteen5710  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also feel like it keeps bugs out better than the D doors because, with the lower zippers zipped, the upper zipper creates a smaller opening for quick exits.

    I couldn't help but notice, when you were talking about the rod above the door to hold the rain fly out, and not having a velcro. Your video appears to show a pole sleeve to slide it through. You might double check that. As seen in the video at the 4:03 mark.

    • @robinosteen5710
      @robinosteen5710  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right. :) You're much not observant than I was! I did find the sleeve as I was taking the rain fly off and mentioned in the follow up video. I think that I was just so excited to set it up that I got ahead of myself! Still loving this tent and looking forward to more fall camping! :)

    Can you tell us what the size of the PACKED tent is. Or better yet a picture or video of the tent packed would be awesome. Thanks for the review and the additional vid. The picture on their website (with the two people holding it) makes it look huge.

  • @scottporter4524

    Update! Just tried for the second time and got the tent, poles and top pieces all into the bag. Trick was to use your knees and squeeze out as much air as possible. While holding it compressed, use the tent cover piece and click it in place around the compressed tent.
    That worked great!

    • @robinosteen5710
      @robinosteen5710  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scott Porter Awesome!!!!
      Something in my brain said that it should be possible (and was probably explained in the instructions somewhere, lol) but the other side of my brain said, "It's a tent... They never fit back in the bag! Just give up and buy something bigger to put it in!" That last voice is the side that recognises that our 6 kids will probably be helping put the tent away most of the time... It won. 😂
      Thanks for sharing the solution with us (the you tube camping community) though!

      We actually retired at about 6 months ago. It was still in great shape with a couple of small exceptions. One of the zippers began to come apart and one of the hinges wasn't functioning correctly. But This was after years of regular use by a large family with small-ish kids. The tent was not stored in ideal conditions and I'm sure that affected it.
      I would absolutely buy one again but we're transitioning to backpacking tents now that the kids are older. The only tent we've had that outperformed/outlasted this one was our $1300 Cabela's Alaknak.

      Just to be clear in case I misunderstood your question... They are a rectangular mesh that is attached to the tent walls and floor on all four sides. There is a rain proof flap on the outside that keeps rain out. It can not be closed. But there is a sufficient lip on the floor panel to keep ground water from getting into the tent.

      IF you lay all of your real people like the diagram of the sleeping bag people then yes, you can fit the claimed number in the tent. But then you have no room for any of your "stuff". Or to walk. Or anything else. I agree with Robin, one real person = two sleeping bag people.

Read the fine print and research a product fully before selling it to others. $170 down the toilet after only one use. Then we contacted customer service about a part shortly after we bought it and spoke to a helpful rep immediately. It turned out that I had just misunderstood part of the set up process. But the rep was very friendly. I have a handful of friends who have purchased CORE tents in the last year and none of them have had a problem contacting the company either. But you still watched it didn't you? Any idea how annoying you sound? Take it up with the complaint department. I don't see any worthwhile videos on your channel. If you think you can do better, put out some content instead of wasting everyone else's time complaining on other people's content. Have a nice day.
