    I have an old 066 magnum that I’m trying to resurrect and finally got it running yesterday. It was truly an awesome feeling to accomplish that. It was a basket case. I’m just getting into rebuilding old saws and have learned so much by watching your channel.
    I also have a later model 066 and an ms 660 that both need the top end rebuilt. I’m not quite ready to port but would love to see those running as well. I got interested in these old saws because of my late best friend logged. He spent his life saving money and rebuilding old equipment while working a 9 to 5 job and finally was able to start logging timber like his grandad did. A short time later he started having some medical problems that led to him losing his life. By building these saws I hope to keep his memory alive. I actually was given his 390 to me by his dad last week and will be cleaning it up very soon. I just wanted to say thanks for the content you share and look forward to more.

    I tried all the light bars and Cannon is by far the toughest, but as you said they are also very expensive. I think I pay around 100$ for a 28in SugiHara/Tsumura Light, and the 28in Cannon Light was around $240

    Use Stihl lightweight on my Stihls and like a Sugihara bar on my Husqvarnas...in the Great Pacific Northwest...we alway use a Full Wrap handle OSHA violation to cut timber with half wrap farmer handles....your hardwoods so small in the East you need to get those extra few inches off the stump...Shoe

    Thanks for the tip on the peach, should go well down here in Tassie. I'm a big fan of the half hour or more instructional videos, but the super chats has knobs on it. I don't have an hour or two to watch a youtuber look at the camera and say hi to people. Subbed to you on Rumble, I was hoping for some Ironhorse rants. I would love to see you finish your reed valve saw and also get a forced induction saw off the ground like you talked about. The video I would like to see the most is what you did to the P38, I know you don't want to see people get into trouble but if they are silly enough to do your ideas badly be it on their own heads. Sorry for the long post. Blessings to you and your family.

Often these are needed especially when the "Oh shoot, what's wrong" happens in real life. Been there and done that and the direct to the point video is a god send to get back to work. But I also really appreciate Harv the Storyteller and Harv Rant videos, regardless of length. SQUIRREL!!! Gotta go!! Love ya Harv!!

    Good seeing you in the shop Harvey. We don't need long bars in Northern MN either. No old growth left up here. 12 to 16 inch is the norm for hardwood up here. Aspen can be a touch bigger but it cuts easy compared to our Birch, Oak, and Maple. Oh sure you may run across a 28 inch tree now and again but it's not that often. get your better-half's rig done man. A guys' gotta eat. Happy Independence day everyone! yes that would be good , but youd think being a single cylinder only the crank could be balanced, on my stills i could see factory balance marks, but on the farmertec nothing, im waiting for a hyway crank since theyre meant to be better than farnertec. i did wonder if anyone splits genuine stihl and husky cranks in half like they do on bikes to rebearing the original cranks.

Yesterday went on a tractor ride with a 530 Case and Deutz Allis 6240. I never grease my tips for a simple reason, they're sealed until you grease them. The first tome you grease them you break the seal then you need you grease them all the time. I know some old timers are stuck in thier ways but just try running a bar and never grease the tip to see how long it lasts, I've had some last for up to 5 years of pretty hard use before they blew.

Haha! [After that we can start some payback competition from Germany and Japan (but probably not from China yet). ] If you go for shorter videos it's okey, but please no YT-Shorts, if it isn't any special and remarkable that you want to show us hastily direct after it happened, like a newborn mule! ;D Keep on with a good summer Harvey and whole family!

    Hello IronHorse, and thanks so much for all your expert instruction and quality commentary ! I'm learning aplenty !
    I'd like to ask you something, if you don;'t mind though ? I just bought a Makita / Dolmar EA6100p. I got a super deal from Home Depot because it was a rental saw that they were selling, which they do on a scheduled basis with all their rental tools. My question is: Can I run a 28" Tsumura bar & chain on this saw if I port the saw ? I know I can run a 24" on it, but I'ld like to put a 28" on it. I figure I will port the saw, ( by doing it myself and following your instructional videos ), and if it's ported right, it should pull a 28" bar. I'd love to get your opinion on this. Thanks !

    Great video sir. Do you ever use the stihl light bars? And what do you think of them.

      Have run Tsumura & Sugihara 24”, Oregon Prolite 32” and 28” Stihl ES Light. The Stihl and the discontinued Oregon are my favorites. The Stihl is light, rigid, and costs the most for a reason. Yes

    Brake work is fickle. Once I make up my mined that it all has to get the big elbow. I try and save s--t out. Wheel cylinders for me are left off the list until the Paine creeps in I find my self going down the road for an hr. to get the right ones.

    Hey buddy it’s nice to see you. I hope your feeling well. I hope your knees and your back are feeling ok. My wife has a bunch of hardware in her back and the weather can put her in severe pain. But she refuses pain pills. So she does injections. I hope barb is doing well too!! So I took my step boys out metal detecting on an old foundation from the 1800s. We found two old horse shoes and some pieces of leather I think is from an old saddle. Some old hand forged nails and some small metal/ iron pieces that I’m not sure what they are. I was wondering if I emailed some pictures to you maybe you might know what they are??? Have a nice day Harvey and as always WORK SAFE

    I'd like your opinion on taking rakers way down. I've been filing about an additional 16th or more. It dulls the chain a bit faster but boy does it pull some wood

    • @audimaster5000
      @audimaster5000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe excess lowered rakers puts more wear on the rear of the link that contacts the bar. It causes the cutter links to rock back a bit more than optimum. There’s a sweet spot with the rakers where the chain can keep the links inline as it ‘swims’ through the wood as in one linear line unit.
      It’s also suggested that allowing maximum chain speed is better than the cutters chunking bigger chips with torque that extra low rakers will cause. I hope that makes some sense.
