You speak the truth about the Macs my friend. My old pro mac 700 wasn't running well so it's been on a shelf for a few wood cutting seasons now. After discovering your channel last month and watching some of your videos, I was motivated to get it out and tune it up last week. I miss running that old saw to buck logs into firewood. There's something about the feeling a person gets after working on something that is broken, and then being in the woods as the sun comes up, when you fire up the old Mac it smokes quite a bit until it's warm for about 30 seconds and you can feel the sun hitting your back with the cool fresh mountain air, the power of the Pro Mac 700 in your hands running like it was new as you rev it up and look around and the smoke looks like mist following a gentle breeze away from you and upward, Man that's a great feeling. I love that can set the Mac down and clear the slash away while limbing and it just idles like a saw should. The original McCulloch 20" bar that's on it has been hammered really hard over the years, so I've been looking at new bars. I was thinking about going to a 28" bar this season for that saw now that it's running good again. The timing of this video is absolutely perfect.
That’s what it’s all about. I got 3 pro Mac 700 saws from my wife’s grandpa and kept one. Been kicking myself for selling the other 2 for $100 each ever since..

Hi Buckin. Good information again. I really like this kind of video. How about skip vs. full house on the same bar and same saw in different diameters of wood ? I guess that would show the advantages/disadvantages of each type of chain per application.
Hey Buckin, Miles from Cincinnati, Ohio here. Love your videos and messages. I run Stihl saws but went into my local dealer the other day and picked up an abandoned McCulloch 2.3 Eager Beaver. Not sure how good it is but I know you love the Macs so figured I'd give it a try.

Good day from the great PNW. Been a damp summer so far. Nice bump side Ford btw. That straight stinger has gotta be screamer. WHAT??!! 2 stroke = power is in the pipe. My step son's got himself a nice little 10-10 Auto he got from his grandpa. Still has the bar cover with the retainer spring/clip.
Great Channel , Great Messages, Would be fantastic to see your top 10 or 20 tree felling on one videos, just of final cut and tree falling . Thanks Buckin
I'm repping big wood Oak Maple and such with a stihl 660 w/skip tooth , 36in bar, Oregon blade magic- cuts through everything like nothing anyting else.
The exhaust chamber will change the power output curve of a two strokes engine. Can give more top end, can give more middle range power. Carburation will be affected and will need to be adjusted to get the “tuned exhaust” full potential.
Hey good day buddy I look so forward to your videos every day thank you my friend qllwqys convey your message it's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice thank you my friend
Louie here from Gretna, Louisiana. One quick question Billy, why do you pull the starter rope when turning off the saw? Don't change one thing buckin Billy, you're one of a kind- the kind we need more of! Stay cool man, love your videos.
I have been watching and learning from you and your son. Can you show us how to build a free wood shelter? Plus more mom music! She is great.Dan from Va.
Hey Buck'n, this is a non- related question in regards to your latest video. But when pulling on a tree (for ex. with a truck), can you pull so hard that you cause it to barber chair when felling it? Thanks. I enjoy your videos and your attitude is refreshing and an inspiration. Stay safe. And the best of me and mine to you and yours.
A little known thing about those particular chamber pipes from the pocket bikes. A lot of them are just all wrong in their design. It's correctable but if you don't know to look you'd never know why they don't work. The header pipes are just shoved into the chamber and welded with a ton of the header protruding into the chamber. This totally negates how an expansion chamber works. So to correct the problem and have the chamber do its thing the header and stinger must not stick into the chamber at all so you gently grind the welds and pull the header pipe out then trim the header, put it back in so it does not extend into the chamber and re weld. The header pipe length has a lot to do where the pipe comes on. Get that wrong and the pipe may have it's effective powerband too high or too low. I grafted one of those onto a Honda NC50 bike, I got the header too long and the pipe hit at much too high an rpm for the the bike to have any torque until I ran out of road. A properly designed chamber you can actually put your mouth to it and sing into it and when you hit the right frequency range you can feel the wind get sucked out of you. Hopefully this info will help anyone wanting to build a pipe of their own
Billy, what are you going to do when they stop making Mcculloch saws??? The old time saws are the best for sure. They can never be duplicated remanufactured ever. But when it comes to the time at hand, eventually you will have to either make a saw from parts or make a choice on the top few manufactures that still make saws. Which saw make would you take ??? Good day to you Billy and friends too. VF
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith hey Buckin I got a question for you. I want to buy an old Mcculloch 1010 but I don’t know what bad length I should run. My filing is pretty good now that I have watched your filing videos(thank you it helped a ton) so I don’t know if that would affect it or not. Well I hope you have a great Buckin day! Keep chopping!
hi buckin billy ray, could it be there is the face of a lady in the handle of erics ax? so it is a real she with the spirit of kindness i hope! Thanks for the chainsaw "explenation" it comes right in time, cause i am looking for a vintage mculloch just now, love and kindness for all friends of the buckin army!
It’s amazing how good they built them back then most still running on original rings and pistons dang sure won’t find a new one that will make it as long as Macs will
Hi Buckin, maybe someone has spotted this and mentioned it earlier. To me that exhaust is way restricted with that fancy tip on it. I’d be slicing that off. Then other thing is that I didn’t see that you tuned it, just ran the same carb setting from the first exhaust. Have a good one
If you can hit max rippems you shouldn’t see a change in speed via bar length, but with the skip tooth in bigger wood, it allows less drag along the length. Letting the chain retain a faster speed without getting as gunned up, you know what I mean?? Like you ever finish a cut and find chips between your chain and guide bar? That’s my thought on it at least. Skip tooth in small wood cuts slower I believe, marginally, the saw is at max rippems and there isn’t enough drag to slow it at all really, so having extra cutters gets you a faster cut.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith you beat me to it 👍🏼, I keep 20" on my go-to most of the time because that's 90% of the time plenty enough but I have 28" hanging up just in case, on my small saws I have one I typically keep a 14" on but have a 16&18 I acquired over the years and my medium size saw I keep a 16 on but have a 14&18 for it, then there is the hutz388 cheapo I keep in my truck that I only have a 22 for.
I got a pro 10-10 automatic and it’s a beauty. It was sitting for 35 years. I got to to run and I have a bit more to do and it will be perfect. But the oil tank galet is no good because the saw doesn’t oil and I’ve try my best but I took it to someone who knows what they doing and I was wondering what size bar could go on it. It has a 16 inch bar but I was wondering if a 18 or a 20 inch bar would fit on it. You they McCulloch guy so I’m asking you
Jeffrey Rubish thanks. I was gonna out a 20 inch bar in it. It has the stock 16 inch bar for it and it’s a bit small for what I’m doing. I just didn’t know it could handle a bigger bar. Then watched this and I though if o could put a bigger bar on it, it would make it better. Thank you. This comment section is really good. Very nice people and very helpful people.
running a stock 261 didnt realize that it was underpowered for a 20 bar. the 20 is perfect for my back would like a 24 but again would need a bigger saw. i was wondering if a skip would help at all. i cut mostly pine and oak. Going to try one out and see how it goes. i love the 261 with a 16 but i feel it in my back.
..I've never quite understood how a funky, long, awkward looking exhaust pipe can give a saw more power...if you're looking to minimize back-pressure and want maximum flow, looks like a simple short stub would do best?....
It's the shape of the pipe, or expansion chamber, that accomplishes the magic. 2 stroke motorcycle exhausts are all tuned pipes. There's a science to the design. A race saw builder could explain it better.
Question: (I have a reputation for asking tons of questions, but isn't that how we learn, friends?) Can you describe for us what is a "full house" chain? I'd rather hear from you than from Google Search! TIA!!
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Thanks, my FRIEND(!!!). And, by the way, I've sent some of your drumming videos to my son, Chad. Chad has, for many years, been a very accomplished jazz drummer. Plus, several years ago, he created the website "Cymbalholics" for all those who love cymbals, want to learn about them, and generally just dig deep into all things cymbals. That website became extremely popular, having thousands of members from all around the world. Chad even created some new nomenclature to describe cymbals (I'm not savvy to that, so I can't be specific) and caught the attention of some of the old guys at Zildjian, Ludwig, and some others (Bospherous??)...and was invited to travel to Italy to not only play with some groups over there, but mainly to visit with a gent way back up in the mountains who was a famed maker of hand-hammered cymbals (from way back in the Zildjian family ways). Chad developed a very close friendship with Roberto, who passed away a year or so ago, unfortunately. Chad is a great visual artist and has designed many "album" covers for bands and individuals over the years, even getting a Grammy nomination for his designs. Now, he teaches art and graphic design at Jacksonville State University in NE Alabama. Chad and his family are coming to visit next week, so I look forward to going through some "Buckin'" videos with him, just to hear him describe what you are doing. If you'd like, I can send you video links to some of his performances, as well as his online tutorials and lessons about cymbals. He is turning 46 this August, so he's a few years behind you. Take care, Super Friend, and keep that Buckin' Army marching right along to Pinnacle Kindness!

Just aquired a pro Mac 10_10 at an auction last week has a 24" bar
Started right up, sweet
I'm a smaller guy. So I prefer a 036 or a 44 with a small 20"-22" bar opposed to a 28"-32" bar, mainly because of the weight to power ratio. I like a big power saw for bucking/felling, and a 026 for limbing. ((Stihl models only used for power reference))(I only know about stihl saw sizes)
I just love the way they sound in the woods. they're just great

That’s my thought on it at least. Skip tooth in small wood cuts slower I believe, marginally, the saw is at max rippems and there isn’t enough drag to slow it at all really, so having extra cutters gets you a faster cut.
Hi from Belgium friends!
Hi Jasper C !
Shoulda re-tuned the carb on that little saw after swapping the mufflers. Fun video though!
Correct.
Beautiful! !!! Teacher 😆 Nice.😆
GOOD SIR
The Buckin army is growing.
Peace and love to all

YES SIR
Hello Buckin’ Most people don’t have a Choice on Bar Length since they only have 1 Powersaw. 👍
KEN YOU CAN SWAP BARS OUT ON ANY SAW FROM 16'' TO 4 FT . I LOVE SEEING YER NAME COME UP KEN YOU HAVE BEEN VERY ACTIVE HERE AND I APPRECIATE YOU
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith you beat me to it 👍🏼, I keep 20" on my go-to most of the time because that's 90% of the time plenty enough but I have 28" hanging up just in case, on my small saws I have one I typically keep a 14" on but have a 16&18 I acquired over the years and my medium size saw I keep a 16 on but have a 14&18 for it, then there is the hutz388 cheapo I keep in my truck that I only have a 22 for.
Love these test videos! Bet you do too.
You they McCulloch guy so I’m asking you
18 or 20 would work on it.
The Mt. Rushmore axe .. thats Wicked
Great vid!
Hey, my bad Buckin. I been watching n listenin to you for at least two yrs and either got unsubscribed or never had subscribed. Anyway, problem solved
running a stock 261 didnt realize that it was underpowered for a 20 bar. the 20 is perfect for my back would like a 24 but again would need a bigger saw. i was wondering if a skip would help at all. i cut mostly pine and oak. Going to try one out and see how it goes. i love the 261 with a 16 but i feel it in my back.
Respect and love
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith
Thank you!
WELCOME ...LOVE WINS,...
Let me know when you come in UK,I would love to meet you!
Buckin brilliant
Im goin with a 28 for the ol pro mac 60! Hey Buckin do something on proper lube for manual oiler on big bars.
Good messages, friend
That blemish on that axe handle reminds me of the lion from the Wizard of Oz!
YEAH
..I've never quite understood how a funky, long, awkward looking exhaust pipe can give a saw more power...if you're looking to minimize back-pressure and want maximum flow, looks like a simple short stub would do best?....
TIA!!
Ahhhhhh, found it!!! You explain it in this video from a few years back -- th-cam.com/video/CphO2s66K9A/w-d-xo.html
@@DrLarryAnderson good stuff
I still my grandpa's Mccoluch. He used it to heat his house, my dad used it to heat the house growing up, now I use it.
Can we get the full story about that little muffler power saw Rob made please buckin? She’s a beauty 👍
