Did you see how fast he would throw the ball..the o line back then wasnt too good..
@@pm21-v3h there are levels to it. That O-line was at least full of starters. Right now, Rivers might as well be snapping the ball to himself.
@@pm21-v3h Exactly, notice how fast he's getting rid of it, and how many times the announcers say, "and they blitz", yet he immediately gets rid of it for a gain. Always heard people say "Rivers is easy to defend against, just blitz him." except when he gets blitzed he always knows were to go with it right away because every blitz leaves a hole.
The way to beat him was to send only 3 to the QB and 1 gets in untouched, leaving 8 back to cover 4-5. This happened regularly throughout his career though since the best pass blocking O-Line that was ever put in front of him as a Charger was ranked 22nd, rest were all top 5 worst in NFL every season, and those were the starters, who almost never all out there at the same time. And even then, he still did shit like this and picked apart defensives while still throwing perfect dimes deep when needing to.
Random stat I found the other day, put his QB class of 2004, Brady, and Peyton in this search:
3rd/4th&Long (7+ yards), throughout each of their entire careers:
Total FD% in this situation.
Brady = 30.7% (Pats 32.1% and Bucs 22.7%)
Peyton = 33.6% (Colts 33.8% and Den 33%)
Ben = 31.7% All Pits
Eli = 26.6% All Giants (lol and he's supposed to be good)
Rivers = 34.9% (Chargers 34.9% and Colts 34.5%)
I just happened to look this stat up simply because it's the hardest spot a QB in put into on a regular basis, defense knows it's a pass and it's always on the QB's shoulders.
Looks pretty good? One of the best ever.

There’s a throw they didn’t include. Gates ran an 8 or so yard out and Phil threw the ball before he even planted. Gates turned and the ball hit him directly in the hand. Phil was so underrated. So tough and never gave up. My only nock is that he did take a pay cut to help establish a good offensive line. I will forever fight for the guy though. He deserves respect
