I'm a Bills fan, but I love Drew Brees as well. This dude was an absolute beast in the NFL. Breaking multiple passer rating, passing td, and passing yardage records. I will miss seeing him play.
As a Patriots fan, I always wanted to see Brady and Brees in the Super Bowl. After Brady got his 5th, I started rooting for Brees because he was just the best at this game. Too bad the referees always had the Saints in their crosshairs.
@Eli Benda "He's not the most accurate he's just statistically the most accurate" His last couple years were certainly short slant central, but even besides that he was unmatched. He holds the three highest single-season completion percentages, and six of the top ten. From 2006-2019 the Saints offense was repeatedly the top in the league, and never dropped out of the top 10 until 2020 when time and age finally caught up with him. He didn't even have a single Pro Bowl receiver until Michael Thomas. Easily the best precision passer in NFL history, it's mostly a shame his greatest years were hindered by the Saint's historically bad defense (2012 Saints allowed the most yards in NFL history, for example), and otherwise he'd likely have another ring or two.
@Eli Benda saying he does dumb throws doesn’t make it true. If he’s throwing to tight coverage and it’s consistently getting caught, that means he’s throwing it accurately enough to where it’s not actually risky. He has never had a great receiving core. The Saints offense was still second in the league the year Sean Payton was suspended. Brees just has some of the best accuracy in the game, and that’s what allowed the Saints offense to be so dominant for years. The sample size is just too large to say he was a risky passer who got lucky, he had constant receiver turnover and was also really good at spreading the ball around. He didn’t necessarily need specific standout receivers because he rarely threw balls that were difficult to catch, he’d put it right on the money almost every time
@Eli Benda precision passing is not the same playstyle as arm cannon. Rodgers playing for deep bombs does not mean Drew Brees is worse at precision passing. Brees has always been a precision passer, and nobody has ever matched him in that category. He has constantly found success with any and all receivers provided to him, despite most being no-names, undrafted, or otherwise just not standouts on their own. And again, if you can force passes into tight coverage to constant success, that’s called being an incredibly accurate passer. Which is the point of precision passing. Brees did not get picked off a lot, and his career completion percentage is second of all time. Only Deshaun Watson has higher (barely), but he played for a fifth of the duration as Brees, so it’s definitely less impressive than keeping that kind of consistent success over 20 years. Brees is the most prolific and successful precision passer in NFL history, just like Michael Vick is the greatest running QB in NFL history. Nobody has ever matched them in their specializations. That doesn’t mean they’re the best all around, or the best at the other styles of qb play like the arm cannon or game manager, but their specialties are what brought them success
@Eli Benda that is correct. Because then he would not be playing in the precision passer archetype. Just like if Vick didn’t run the ball as often, he would not have as many rushing yards. Everybody plays to the category that suits them best, and for Brees that was precision passing. And he ended up being the best to ever play in that category. Having an arm cannon doesn’t necessarily translate to shorter accuracy, or Vice versa. There’s no objective best playstyle, but you can be considered the best within your playstyle. That’s what Brees is, the greatest precision passer of all time
Not a Saints fan, but this is truly special and his career was amazing you have to admit that even if you’re not a Saints fan and just like football. wish he won more Super Bowls.
That scoreline that pops up during the highlights, 48-49 says it all. Dude never had a defense lol. Imagine scoring 50 points and the game still being close
I think something that gets missed when people talk about Brees is his ability to navigate the pocket. He keeps his eyes downfield, his feet moving, and is able to make small adjustments to miss the pass rushers but also keep his base strong. First ballot HoF'r, no doubt
Even in some of these clips the places he’s able to put a ball while under pressure, on the move, or while taking a hit is insane. There are starting qbs today that couldn’t have that level of accuracy with no defense against them
He and Marques Colston were also lethal in that red zone, and insane on third and long situations. That dude (Colston) made some insane catches in all kinda traffic. That was prime Brees, when he could still throw lasers.
@@CreativeLion2314 The fact Colston never made a Pro Bowl is an absolute travesty. The dude was automatic, and frankly was good enough that even with a receiver like Michael Thomas, there's still debate over which was better.
I dont think one player had more impact on a franchise or a city like Drew. Literally saved us, no joke. Brees had some amazing speedsters to throw to. Devery Henderson, Robert Meachum, Brandin Cooks; but it's not enough to have speedy wide receivers, you have to be able to throw the ball accurately. Drew was one of the best in that department for the bulk of his career.
@elibenda5644 bud it’s very obvious you never watched drew Brees play. The most accurate qb to play the game, threw a lot of medium passes, some short and some long. Always threw a man open even if he was double covered. The majority of his interceptions came from tipped balls off the line of scrimmage, shitty receivers that would let the ball hit their hands or their chest and bounce up and get picked that way. Or a miscommunication where the WR was supposed to be somewhere when the ball was thrown but wasn’t. Drew Brees orchestrated that offense knew where every receiver was and where he was going to be. The man knew the receivers routes and breaks. Squeezed balls into some tight coverage regularly. You have nothing on this argument. Go crawl back into your hole.
