Im definitely on the hunt for an old first generation S10/S15 Sonoma body now!! My dad has two old cast iron 350 blocks in storage so when i get one me and him will build one and use it for that project
I bought an 85' Blazer in the early 2k's on a "buy here pay here" back lot for $900, it had an old school 4 bolt 350, and what looked like Hooker headers, MSD ign parts, perfect base vinyl interior, no dents, no dings, nothing but faded pain. spent 10 hours working on the paint, and $300 on a used Holley/int. manifold...I drove that thing for 2 years, until the trans started to wear out, sold it for $3k :D there's some good finds out there, just got to pry a bit, even at the smaller sales lots, people don't realize what they have sometimes, don't feel obligated to tell them!

Stopped by to see what if any new changes to install of LT1 small block . Started doin this in the 80s with 302-400s sledgehammer performance engines , auto trans or 4-5 speed manuals . Found the best hookup for traction is long bed longer wheel base . Better weight transfer and control at 170 mph + oh yeah lock right rear . I’m old now can’t do a lot anymore …so great to see these are still alive ,, square body first gen. Rpm’s 7000 n up to 9500 on 302s . You did a good conversion.

Pretty much hits the nail on the head. I put 6L in my 94 SS and spent the summer driving the bugs out. Now it's winter time let the upgrades begin LOL. I swear it's an addiction.
I used to have a base 94 2.2 5 speed it was regular cab short bed 4x2 crank windows absolutely nothing other than ac. I always wanted to swap an lt1 because back in the early 2000s ls swaps weren't cheap at all (imagine that) with a t56 behind it.
Oh, that old truck was so nasty. S10 V8 will be a great toy. I knew a mechanic with a shop called My MECHANIC who built a red S10 V8, drop truck. He refused to open it up, so It was not as fast on the street as my built 70 Cougar with the 351C, but it moved.
Oh yeah! I actually just got mine back (old channel name Red84s10), after being gone for a few years. Got a lot on the plate right now but this gets me excited to put it back together again. I let it go and it came back...maybe I should keep it this time
Been watching tons of videos, this one is the best so far. You show everything. I bought a 97 S-10 for 1000 bucks it has a manual tranny in it. Bought a 84 vette to do a ZR1 swap and use the old engine for my S-10.
This guy is legendary, most perfect video ive ever seen, his cuts/edits for the video showing the main important things is amazing, subscribed only after ten minutes watching
I have a little of an addiction too. I have had approx 25 S-10's , S-15's , Blazers and Jimmys... I have had 4 now with V8's and love them most. I believe this latest is my best yet and thanks so much for watching.
Great build. Just one little thing. I would build a sort of box around the air filter to sort of isolate it from the hot engine bay air. Then I think it would be a good idea to wrap the metal part of the tubing in heat shielding so it doesn't get as much heat.
I love the speed at which you present everything. I usually 1.5x these type videos and yours was great. Covered a lot of detail others skip over, and skipped over the dumb stuff like cleaning and grinding.
That is exactly what I was thinking, It took me months to get it all done and I really wanted it to be 30 minutes or less, but there was no way. The goal was to show the whole process / every step. Thanks for watching.
My daily was crashed by an old lady on her fone while driving last Oct.24th. So i have to make my project ek hatch runs b4 winter hits pretty hard soon. Your video helps alot brother.
Really makes me want to get my truck engine swap done. I have a 93’ SCLB Chevy 1500 350 tbi and a 98’ Chevy 1500 Vortec to go in it, just haven’t had time to do it yet. When I do, definitely gonna take some video. Amazing video my friend!
Cool. These were good pickups. Very cheap to maintain. I also loved the earlier models dashboard. I had a 1989 and a 1992. I liked the 1989 better just because it had the weird dashboard. It was a 1500 with a 350 tbi. They also made many with the 305 and the 4.3 V6 tbi. The one we had at my job had the 4.3. That pickup saved my life. I crashed in a 5 tons water tanker at 100km/h the guy turned on the red light and cut me the way. It was a 1988 1500. The doors wouldn't open anymore and it didn't have a airbag obviously. I was lucky to have only a palette of folded boxes. I usually have to bring 32 inches steel manhole covers from the machine shop. It will have cut me in 2.
I taped bolts to a coat hanger and went in through the spring pocket. But worked great either way. This is certainly going faster than the last one! haha
$2500, That's a real feat today, but most people would need to pay others to do 90% of that work, and most people aren't cleaver enough to find deals like that either, but it can be done,👍, awesome build-n-awesome video, thanks for sharing.
Sounds fun and super fast!! I drove a 5 speed LT1 Trans Am with no exhaust on an airport runway once, I have been hooked ever since... Thanks for watching!
On a dark raining day in Hermanus South Africa I came across your awesome channel and I really enjoy the story and creative ideas that made this a great build. Thanks for sharing your content.
I know this will probably get lost in the comments but sometimes when I’m home alone I like to go out in my garden and cover myself with dirt and pretend I’m a carrot.
You know I’m just randomly on Thanksgiving started watching this. I’m pretty impressed with the video I like to know how much mechanical experience he has because I think he did a good job
Thanks so much, my experience is just that I have been tinkering with stuff all my life. Never formally trained, just used to help my dad, he was too cheap to buy new and could fix anything. thanks for watching and be sure to let me know what you think about part 2.
@@chud327 I know the feeling, I got my 65 mustang for 5k just because it wasn't running. I even offered more but the lady wouldn't take it. Rebuilt the carburetor, drained the bad gas, put a new fuel filter on and she was running again.
I enjoyed the video. With the V8 power you definitely need to crack open the diff cover and clean it out and weld the spider gears ⚙️ to make it a posi traction so you won’t be doing one wheel peel and gain traction. Thank you for sharing chud327.
That hood is awesome! I had a fiberglass 3" or whatever cowl hood on a trans am. Put nitrous on it and blew the motor in front of my house doing a sick burnout 10 years ago! Whoo!
I used to have a 81 ST 4x4 we put a 305 with a 350turbo it drove it to my army station in Utah. It did 11 miles per gallon with a 15 gallon tank. Everyone loved it. Used to destroy all the fast cars . Wish I still had it.
Man, I haven't seen the embark red tag in almost 20 years. I've got a clean 1987 S10 up here in WI and they're great little trucks. I've kept mine stock and it's been amazing.
Brings back memories of my 1998 ranger budget build. I had drove it for 7 years with the 4 cylinder in it before deciding to go 5.0. My budget in the finished product was zero dollars. So I found a 1998 explorer 5.0 for $500 and a F150 For the 5 speed for $400. Sold converters off explorer for $500 sold motor from F150 for $300. And sold the scrap from both donor vehicles and think I ended up a few hundred dollars ahead. But while the ranger was fast and strong it was extremely horrible on gas. I did drive it to work before gas went up and it cost $20 a day. I traded it of about 6 months ago. These projects can be fun but can be built on a budget
Very cool story, sounds like you could do this for a living. Mine before this was $600 through trading, using what was in the garage, and deals on marketplace. I sold it for $2400 + $400 for extra tires and wheels. That is $1800 profit. Only thing is I don't want to sell this one to build the next one. Cool story and thanks for watching!
My brother built a v8 prostock street S10. I did the wiring on it and the paint job he was able to do in his garage and had a professional help do it. Total for everything was about 35K. It had a beefed up 700r4 trans, a 400 whpChevy v8, a really sweet interior and went like the proverbial bat outta Hell. With the narrowed frame and a Starnge 9" rearend he got some beefy tires under the rear and it needed them. That engine was built with Nascar type heads and camshaft and ran from idle to 7k without a blip anywhere in its power. It was brutal for such a lightweight truck but we both loved it. I'd take it any day of the week over this "conversion" you did that I wouldn't trust to get me across the street. Sorry dude but you really built a deathtrap.
His sounds sick, but I will never since 35K into a toy. But then again I would never criticize someone who did. I would take my $2500 deathtrap, that never let me down, I anyway of the week and keep the $32,500 in the bank. Thanks for watching and you don't have to reply back...
Ive just been gifted a free 81,000 mile, 95 Z28, from a guy I used to turn wrenches with at the local Ford dealership. He spent thousands on the engine, heads and transmission. It dyno'd at 421 hp to the wheels, N/A. Plus it has a 130 shot of nitrous on top of that. He ran 7.40's on nitrous at our 1/8th mile drag strip here in Jackson, TN. Its been sitting out in the direct sunlight for 10 years and the clearcoat is bubbled up on it. So we're gonna have to try some wizardry on that, and see if we can at least make it a nice 10 footer. Lol. He parked it only 2500 miles after building it, due to blowing a head gasket. He got in a hurry finishing up putting the engine back togethern, and put a cheap set of gaskets on it. So im hopefully gonna pull the heads off this week, and drop them off at the machine shop, just to have them cleaned up and checked, just for peace of mind. best gift ive ever been given. Lol
I had a 91 that the 4banger finally had it..dropped a LT1 I got from Dennis Anderson and a built 350 trans from a dragrace buddy in over a weekend at a friend's 4x shop in OBX...instant 10sec truck
I never change a trans filter unless I’m sure it’s had maintenance every 40-50 thousand. I’ve seen so many be working perfectly, change the filter and not make it another 500 miles. I had transmission man explain why that is one time but I’m old and forgetful now days. I can’t remember what he said. Love the truck, nice job. You made it look easy.
@@chud327 3 I can’t remember exactly what he said but found this in google and seems pretty close to what I was told. The debate about transmission fluid change revolves around a basic problem. Typically, a transmission pan drop & fluid change only changes about half the fluid. The fresh fluid effectively cleans the transmission and releases particles of old build-up, which circulates throughout the transmission, leading to slipping gears, pressure drops, overheating, even complete failure.
Rebuilding automatic transmissions 44 and know a hell of a lot of mechanics and one who has built at least 4 S-10 350w/350 automatic my 38 year old son is right now doing an L S W / 4L60E AND IT'S ALWAYS FUN TO LOOK AT THE SAD S10 TURNED BEAST BUT MAN! You don't have to say that to me, I have literally had 25 or so of them, now I have this one, and I am still searching out others... I think it is my addiction. Now that I have been working on this one, I have been seeing some really good deal on others. There was about 3 or 4 years where I could not find a decent one for cheap enough to even consider. No useless rambling or tongue smacking like an African tribe and not sounding like you’re severely parched lol. Sorry for the rant but it’s so refreshing to find someone who speaks like an American. Sub’d 🤙🏾
Love the rant, thanks for watching and especially for subbing!!

This is a great video. I think you covered everything that’s required to do this job and didn’t waste any time doing it.
That was the plan and thanks for watching. Hope you will check out part 2 and tell me what you think and part 3 should be coming out this weekend.
I've been thinking about it for years but just by me accidentally stumbling on your channel and watching your build just motivated me even further now!! Im definitely on the hunt for an old first generation S10/S15 Sonoma body now!! My dad has two old cast iron 350 blocks in storage so when i get one me and him will build one and use it for that project
Hope you can find a nice one. Thanks for watching and mày be purchasing an engine tomorrow for my next build...
The detail and time you put into this amazing ! This was fun to watch ! wish i had a uncle like you to learn this art you practice!
Thanks so much, I can see if my sister will adopt you... Just kidding and thanks for watching. Love the comment.
I love find good deals , especially on V8 S-10's thanks for watching!!
This video is jam packed full of so much useful information, I've been dreaming about V8 swapping my '92 S10 Blazer 4 door ever since I got it. I'm 100% using your channel for reference whenever I end up getting to it!
You've got a subscriber in me good sir, stay dirty!
Love it and thanks so much. Go ahead and start collecting in parts and start when you have most of them in the garage . Thanks so much for subbing and for watching!
Now im regreting selling my 91 s10, she was a champ that 4.3 took me 270k miles with some hiccups, but with 450k on the clock when i sold it. She got an ls swap done. May have to buy another one. Great video and glad to see someone using the LT platform!
Awesome comment and thanks! Time for you to find another… thanks for watching!!
I just watched a whole 45 min video without feeling like it was almost an hour. Nice work man! This things is awesome! Nice video editing, keeping it to the point and making great content.
Thanks for watching it all. I tried to stay on the point and not have a 2-3 hour video. BTW the are updates and just picked up another project S10 to do it all over again. Thanks for watching and for the comments!
Taking the grader to the road after the burnouts was the chef's kiss.
Thanks and thanks for watching!!
Looks like a dash cover would clean up the interior. Love the whole project.
Good point and thanks so much for watching!!
I love the high revving engines would would absolutely love a 302 in my Z/28 tribute... That would be the perfect engine. However, so rare and expensive, that will just have to be a dream. thanks so much for watching.
@@chud327 the sound of a high winder 302 n 12000 rpm sounds like a beehive on steroids . That’s a chev 302 as the winder . Had to run magneto’s to fire em years ago . We had 104 to 106 octane gas ,18cents a gallon then . Gas wars of the 60s super low prices then
Pretty much hits the nail on the head. I put 6L in my 94 SS and spent the summer driving the bugs out. Now it's winter time let the upgrades begin LOL. I swear it's an addiction.
I feel the same way, but I tell people it is almost an addiction... Thanks for watching!
I used to have a base 94 2.2 5 speed it was regular cab short bed 4x2 crank windows absolutely nothing other than ac. I always wanted to swap an lt1 because back in the early 2000s ls swaps weren't cheap at all (imagine that) with a t56 behind it.
@@midnight347 I would like a T56 behind my next one too. Thanks for watching!!
thank you for uploading a full project not in 40 episodes, I enjoy both but its always nice to have a one in done video!
I understand completely, I feel like some people stretch it out too much. I want an all in one package. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a lot of hard work and tinkering. Turned out pretty awesome. I’m a true fan of the channel.
Lots of work, love how it turned out! Thanks for watching until the end and for being a true fan!!!
They will move for sure, hope to get my next one on the road soon and thanks for watching!!

Oh yeah! I actually just got mine back (old channel name Red84s10), after being gone for a few years. Got a lot on the plate right now but this gets me excited to put it back together again. I let it go and it came back...maybe I should keep it this time
I remember that name and stay inspired! Get it back together for old times sake. What is the saying? If it comes back… thanks for watching!
Been watching tons of videos, this one is the best so far. You show everything. I bought a 97 S-10 for 1000 bucks it has a manual tranny in it. Bought a 84 vette to do a ZR1 swap and use the old engine for my S-10.
Sounds very cool! Thanks so much!! I just picked up a manual S-19 for $1000. I need to find a donor Corvette... Thanks for watching!!

My favorite comment of the month or longer!!! Love it and thanks for watching. BTW, hope to start the next build real soon.
Very nice job with the truck. Looks real good. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with it..
Will be doing another update soon and thanks for watching.
ive had an s-10 addiction for a long long time. i have built six of them in my life. this makes me want to do one more! lol great content!
I have already been pondering how to do this, we will see and thanks for watching!!
I doubt u would fix, let alone build anything champ... Keep up the great comments though bud, you're making a real difference😂🤣🤡👎🕺
Plus that cj5 has a custom paint job and has custom chrome bits on it, but sure go off.

New here, but im stoked to see something other than an LS swap! Great video man!
Thanks so much, glad you found it and thanks so much for watching.
I love the speed at which you present everything. I usually 1.5x these type videos and yours was great. Covered a lot of detail others skip over, and skipped over the dumb stuff like cleaning and grinding.
I tried to do an all in one with just the important parts that shows every step and not be 50 episodes or 2 hours long. Thanks for watching!!
This was a great all in 1 video. I loved it!!! I hate having to wait months for a build like this lol. Chud your the man!!! Much love from indiana
That is exactly what I was thinking, It took me months to get it all done and I really wanted it to be 30 minutes or less, but there was no way. The goal was to show the whole process / every step. Thanks for watching.

thanks so much and hope you can get to your soon . thanks for watching.

I enjoyed the video. With the V8 power you definitely need to crack open the diff cover and clean it out and weld the spider gears ⚙️ to make it a posi traction so you won’t be doing one wheel peel and gain traction. Thank you for sharing chud327.

Love the ingenuity, a REAL budget build

Lol
That is a very cool gift with very impressive numbers. Let me know how it turns out and thanks for watching!!

@@chud327 3
I can’t remember exactly what he said but found this in google and seems pretty close to what I was told.
Props to you for raising an old fashioned woman. We need more
