    Nice video and nice music. Just got my MV8800 a week ago. I'm still learning all the features of this very deep and impressive machine. Coming from MPCs and other machines, it's been a little bit of a learning curve but I'm getting there.

      @@monsterx3055 Great point. I never thought about the arp however you can create an arp effect with a loop and just set the loop point to a place in the sample where it sounds like it's arping when played.

    Just got mine yesterday and wow its a BIG boy. Hope it has the REAL reverb and lofi effects just like the MC909 had. The early 2000s, I love that era. MC808 was kinda wack and I heard MC707 isn’t true

  • @BankHardBeats

    The MV series are such great machines for their time (owned the 8000 a couple of times followed by the 8800... should have never sold it!). Besides dealing with the aging tech (that IDE bus is SLLOOOOOWWW these days lol), I think my one and only real gripe was the whole need of setting up every sound, going pad by pad setting things to One Shot (everything defaults to Note On), adjusting envelopes, etc. But once you knew that work flow and had your sounds all setup, you can FLY on this thing. That and the rarity of the output expansion card, but I've been seeing third party manufactured cards pop up a lot more often these days.
    Being spoiled by how fast these new machines are makes it a little difficult to go back, but as a few have stated in the comments already, this thing has such a beautiful, warm, punchy sound! I believe the sample engine was based around the old Roland S series samplers from the 90s if I remember correctly. Great overview video!

    • @theboombapkingdom8628
      @theboombapkingdom8628  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Bank Hard Beats Peace my guy! Yes I agree the original MV series were a beast. The bus is slow only 100MHz whereas the MPC4000 is 133MHz. I put an SSD drive in mine and it does feel a bit faster but nothing to write home about. I did that mainly for reliability i.e. no moving parts inside the drive. I found the workflow to be great even to today's standards. The only samples i set to oneshot are my drums. I use note on heavy even in MPC. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Peace!

    • @BankHardBeats

      @@theboombapkingdom8628 For sure, I put a SSD in mine and also swapped for fan for a nice new Noctua one, it ran completely silent! Too bad they've straight up doubled in price since I was last looking around again lol 😣

      @@BankHardBeats I upgrade the RAM too. It runs so smooth. Just did a RAM, HD upgrade and a Noctua fan install on my MPC4000. Its like a whole new machine. In my opinion the MV-8800 and MPC4000 are still the illest!

    • @BankHardBeats
      @BankHardBeats 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theboombapkingdom8628 That was definitely an exciting and special time for some beat machines, competitors at that! Both are also equally giant boxes lol Akai did pretty good with their modern units, I love the workflow. That new Roland MV is so disappointing, they should have put a different name on that thing because it doesn't even come close to the 8000 lol I would love to see Roland make a real, true successor

    • @theboombapkingdom8628
      @theboombapkingdom8628  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BankHardBeats Yes the new one is whack! Akai is responsible for breathing life back into the stand alone market. I also have an Akai Force and i have to say i think its the best unit from Akai as of this posting. I can't wait to see what Ableton does with the Push 3 though.

    How does the MV8800 compare to the Force in terms of Sound ? Do they produce a different sound ? And do you have a preference ? - E

    • @theboombapkingdom8628
      @theboombapkingdom8628  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question. Akai MPC and Force sound a bit flatter and have more digital clarity. The MV-8800 sounds thicker and warmer.

      There is no comparison the mv sound is second to none , it will run with anything new or old , not as fast as the new stuff once you figure out the work flow and patience a really nice piece to have just make sure the price is right and check all the specs and other stuff

    • @theboombapkingdom8628

      The 8800 comes with the VGA card installed and the built-in display is color. The button layout is also different. It also comes with a CD drive/burner installed. The 8000 came with a diskette drive. It also came with the updated OS. Get an 8800 it's a better machine.

      Also if you press the record button you can set the main quantize method to shuffle as well then set the quantize to shuffle for each track. That is how I get the MPC swing on the MV. You will need to play with different strength values to get it to your liking.
