I put everything except Push 3 and a handful of synths in storage and started selling things off. Now I am free to make music again., and I made 16 new beats in 2 weeks. Less is indeed more.

Yeah but in this case not ever kick slice on the break was the same. So I’d have to do the layering for each instance. Easier this time to make it separate
Killing it. Told ya. Akai has been listening to its customers the last several years. I haven’t even been using my MPC recently. Once 3 drops, I’ll come back to it. Sometimes just a daw and plugins brings you back to basics.
This might be an addition for myself - fat fingers are fat. Love stand alone, my only issue since the 3 beta is the screen space is getting cramped and I'm just not agile enough.

slowed down part is at the end! But I see what you're saying. We're always playing around with formatting to make the best experience for the audience.
That's why I never add my thoughts on a beat until I've added the bass cuz theres times where I think the beat is ass until I add the bass and everything just works and I end up creating some of my favourite beats
Also you can add the tube drive directly on the pads. So another way of using this is to sample to the pad (using less CPU) and add tube drive effect per pad..Love your stuff bro
That stylus is a game changer. Just heard of this MPC1 I hope they will incorporate some linear block editing in a small box. I gotta fix my 404 and MPk49 ( them faders are a joy but broken ). I miss that creative zone when the machine goes all Neon Genesis on me. Remember Jon from his early 404 production. Keep growing!

Just bought an MPC ONE last week used for 400$. Been having lots of fun with it. Haven't moved to the 3 beta firmware yet... still just learning the stable 2.15.1... Did put a vocal on a track that I had in my OP-1... so pretty fun stuff. I'm REALLY impressed with the effects and the instruments it ships with too. Really want to get it to my studio so I can hook up all my cool shit like cassette decks and sample my drum kits and grand piano.

Eyyyy! I kinda hated my mpc because arranging was a nightmare. Now having an arranger is really a game changer. It’s such a powerful stand alone unit and it has the best pads on the market. I miss my Mpc one with all the buttons. The live 2 is sick, but the one was just more fun with all the button per function. I see some people making little battery kits for the mpc one which I think I would be a game changer.
I've left the computer and am just in the mpc live now, guitar, bass, vocals all in the live. I get ideas down way faster plus i can mix different tempos together, doing that in daw was a pain. Great beat.
Imagine running your beat from MPC One... and doing a whole rap.. verse, chorus, ad-libs and everything in the Octatrack. Sync the two boxes. Might be dope. Keep rocking, Indiana.🤘

That beat is really good, and modern MPC's are pretty amazing. Switch up the factory q link knobs with some aluminium ones and you'll find they're a lot more responsive. Also, adding layers within the program (or track in 3.0) really helps tighten up the timing as all layers are triggered at the same time, helping avoid phasing and unwanted flams, etc.. .
@@jonmakesbeats Although, the problem is you can't filter a single layer in any way, so you'd have to choose your layers real carefully for their character. Hopefully Akai will add layer fx in a future update.
Hey Jon, I'm curious about your lighting setup. From the overhead shot it looks like you're only using a simple reflector to put light on yourself with a single light from above? I've been thinking about getting a couple mini soft boxes, but I love the simplicity of just throwing a couple reflectors around behind the camera.
i bought like a one and a live 2 but it always made me feel like im using a shitty daw with the touch screen. i thought i rather have an electron sequencer for off pc. ill give it another shot. it is extremely powerful and fully featured and beats everythin in that regard at its price.

These new ones don’t slam drums like the old ones. I have an mpc 2000, 2000xl, mpc 5000, a backup mpc5000, MPCX , and Mpc ONE. You might consider getting a 2000xl with 8 outs and effects while they are affordable. Eventually it will be worth 10 times what they are going for at the current moment in time. Mpc4000 is sought after and the 2000xl will catch up to it in the future. 2000 is good sounding but the xl has some better shortcuts for trimming samples. I’m on my way to getting the 4000 sooner than later before it’s 20000 dollars
Worse converters for sure if going for distortion but I find there’s so much flexibility in the box I can make stuff sound way better with some mixing knowledge and it’s plugins. I’ve owned a 3000 and still own an s950 and an sp-1200 so I know a bit about this.

Yep it was 4 layers in mpc 2.0, and in mpc 3.0 and up its 8 layers per pad. Crazy shizz.

3.0 helped a lot. My criticisms of 2.x still stand…too horizontal. 3.0 make the workflow more vertical

MPC one is a monster . Best machine for sampling and sequencing around .. Especially for any OG who is transitioning from a Roger Linn MPC
I’d say the Octatrack gets the edge on sequencing for those who have an open mind
mpcs are dope, its got its draw backs but not many, using a stylus is a plus

Mpc4000 is sought after and the 2000xl will catch up to it in the future. 2000 is good sounding but the xl has some better shortcuts for trimming samples. I’m on my way to getting the 4000 sooner than later before it’s 20000 dollars
Worse converters for sure if going for distortion but I find there’s so much flexibility in the box I can make stuff sound way better with some mixing knowledge and it’s plugins. I’ve owned a 3000 and still own an s950 and an sp-1200 so I know a bit about this.

Hi Jon. Much love. 1 question. You mentioned applying ping pong to your drums. I've tried to search how that is done but fell short. Any chance you could please say how you did that within mpc one.
