    What a treat to see you demo in this video right after I saw an hour long interview of you in 2017 (Roland MV-8800 - Gear Chat 05) where you mention this 2007 NAMM show.

      Been wondering that for years on a number of gear Roland used to make. As for the MV-1 that's out now, it still does not hold a candle to the MV-8000 series.

    One of the first machines I did homework on about 6 yrs ago! Ended up getting an mpc studio..but was sooo on the fence about this groove box! Now 10 years later after it dropped I'm loving it again! Very intriguing,it's getting some buzz again!

      I also use the MV8800, also the MC909. MV8800 is an analogue of Akai MPS 4000 and 5000, but stands at its own level, and in some places is better than Akai

    It's paying for watching this video and the other videos have watched. The first simpler I ever bought was the sp808. And when it came out it was good. But for me it wasn't good because I didn't understand a zip drive etc. I thought it was a more modern version of the MPC at the time. Long-winded story short. I ended up screwing around for several years and fruity loops. And eventually with that program I discovered the modulation matrix. Which I did a lot of cool stuff and learned a lot of cool stuff. And that changed my concept of how things should work if they had those features. I ended up struggling 20 years ago and beyond. With the curse of all curses. Which is latency. I didn't understand what kind of physical gear to buy and you are always dealing with late and see what you did by for computer related programs. And I think this is the truth after the other video I watched about the MV 8800. I ended up reading reviews etc about the unit. And from the MPC community there was a lot of hate. The guitar center's hour at never had anyone able to describe how this guy's described the functionality of the machine. And if I had understood that I would have bought one of these right out the gate. This is exactly the machine I wanted. Follow what I had to have done it's gotten the sound card with a digital IO and MIDI. Hook that up to whatever software I wanted to control and use this as literally the centerpiece of everything I wanted to do. I could have been asleep made any kind of music I wanted to make with this machine. I ended up spending years of my life and I really doing anything and eventually sort of giving up. I've bought a lot of new equipment that's killer in the last year. I accidentally in the last month
    Still hold up on this unit again. And looked at the specs. And I would rather have this machine than any of the new akai even. I totally forgot that this unit had the VGA and the mouse. I looked at that old school software look. And then John told me this is all I ever needed. And all the hate that was on the internet at the time series I never bought this unit.

    Mike! Still a great video! I've been trying to get my MV to swing like the MPC. I know the MPC is 96ppq. Can you give me some pointers on what settings I can change? Thanks!

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial

      +phatdrums choose 480 for the quantize resolution then switch on swing and drop it to about 60%

    Nice tip... can anyone tell me why after hooking up my 8800' to a monitor vga and mouse , when I go through the instruction step to switch from internal lcd to external vga after hitting the f5 button it tells me " mouse not fount " ? mind you, the mouse is working properly and the monitor displays the mv logo. any suggestion???

    I'm looking for a way to make music away from my regular computer screen and the MV8800 looks very capable indeed!
    Could someone expand on the laptop-connectivity = additional plug-ins functionalities, please?
    Also, what is this AU plug-in for?
    I'm trying to understand how this could interact with a ProTools based studio in 2020, basically.
    Thanks for your help!

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial
      @MikeAcostaOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Essentially you can use the external MIDI I/O to trigger your software synths and when your ready you can either capture them to an audio track within the MV as you have 8 audio tracks or you when your song is complete can slave the MV to your ProTools rig via MIDI clock and record all of your tracks within the MV into ProTools as audio tracks where you can then do the final mix and master within ProTools.

    How could of a sound quality will I get out of my vocal tracks . I have a BlueBird Microphone. Also when it comes to mixing and mastering will it sound professional. I saw you demo a Hip Hop track. Were those vocals recorded inside of the MV ?

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial
      @MikeAcostaOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a DAW id recommend slaving the MV to your DAW via MIDI clock and recording your vocals inside your DAW. If you don't have a DAW you can totally record vocals in the MV, just not as flexible as a DAW.

    Hello Mike! I'm going to buy a MV8800 but I've a question..
    How many audio tracks can handle the MV8800 via Optical out? Unfortunately I can't find an answer all around the Internet (may be it's a trivial question. .sorry. .I'm a newbie of this stuff lol) PS: great stuff in your channel!

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial
      @MikeAcostaOfficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spdif digital output is a 2 channel stereo output only.

    • @arnaldocaprio5783
      @arnaldocaprio5783 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Acosta So, Digital Out A and B both can handle only 2 channels?

      +Mike Acosta Thank you Mike. Just another question. Any suggestion about where could be possible to find a MV8-OP1 or something like a workaround to obtain more output? (A guy from gearslutz has obtained something good with a SP808-OP1. Take a look at this www.gearslutz.com/board/geekslutz-forum/1007228-sampler-output-expansion-other-make-model-mv-8800-a.html )

      @@MikeAcostaOfficial Thanks for answering. I never expected that. You’re the reason why I bought mine in 2008. I wanted the MPC 5000 and saw you showcasing the MV 8800. Amazing.

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial
      @MikeAcostaOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it’s still a fully capable machine even in this day and age it’s still has a lot of features and does things that no other hardware sequencer or sampler out there can do including the new MPC series.

    • @niterida380
      @niterida380 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeAcostaOfficial You’re completely right. One thing that I didn’t like was minor and not a huge problem. That’s only being able to connect to a vga monitor. At the time I had 2 Apple Cinema displays and the one that came before it with the matte screen. I didn’t buy an extra screen.

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial

      Actually, it's not from Nexus, it's from an earlier synth from reFX called Vanguard which was out before Nexus and has been discontinued since.

    On Mv8800. It is possible to be in standalone mode and also can run plugin and record them in mv 8000?

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial
      @MikeAcostaOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You cannot run plugins inside the MV-8800, it is a dedicated stand-alone hardware sequencer. With that being said, you can have a computer connected to it via an audio interface with MIDI I/O and trigger plugins hosted on your computer thru the MIDI interface as you would any external hardware synths or drum machines.

  • @marcos84g

    Its it possible to export wavs of each track so you can sequence in your daw?

    • @MikeAcostaOfficial
      @MikeAcostaOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The easiest way would be to simply slave the MV via MIDI clock to your DAW and record each track one at a time, there is no export all function, this product came out back in 2006 so alot of those functions weren't implemented yet. If you have the MV8-OP1 output expander you could track 8 tracks at a time.
