Thanks! The Garmin's are fully compatible with IOS devices but not quite to the same level of integration as the apple watch... Is the sleep monitor any good from Garmin ? It is not because graphs are better that the measurement is better . Did you check quality of those measurements ?
The lack of a start/stop button on the aw makes it almost impossible to use when raining or sweating and almost impossible to use for a running race. So frustrating😡. Running intervals.....forget it.
Just watched your video and couldn’t agree more about the garmin battery life. Currently waiting on my Venue2 plus to be delivered tomorrow. Swapping over from the Apple Watch 4. @@braddavister137 what I really hope is that Garmin updates its Vivosmart so that I can wear that all the time and just switch to Fenix when I work out. I've got one, but it's just way outdated at this time. HR accuracy and SPO2 are terrible.
@@ZachGrabill can I ask how well the screen has held up on the fenix pro? I had a Vivoactive 4 and it scratched so easily, just like the AW. I assume the pro has the same screen and it’s not the sapphire. I think I need sapphire
Excellent as always Dave. It’s been interesting watching your stance on Apple Watch change (in my opinion, tell me if I’m wrong). It seemed like you were skeptical back with the AW SE but you seem to have come a long way with accepting what an AW is (and isn’t) with the Series 6. Which is to say, I love the open-minded opinions! More possibilities for more people, just gotta find what’s right for you. As a reference, I’ve been both a Garmin and AW user over the years, but a strict AW user (series 6) for the past few years. WorkOutDoors App was a game changer and allowed me to put the Garmin away. I run as far as half-full marathon distance and an AW has always been enough for me. Day to day charging doesn’t bother me (although I would love to see at least 3 days!)
Hah yeah. I think it's just come with my experience on this channel. Some of my first videos were Garmin related so I was a bit of a fan boy. Now I try to keep myself impartial to brands and focus on the actual features/hardware of devices so I can approach it from a more unbiased perspective. I'll probably get better at this some day haha! WorkOutDoors is a fantastic app! Big fan.
Depends on the app. Spotify requires a premium subscription for "offline playback" but I'm not sure of other services like "IHeartRadio". There's also third party apps like this that appear to have free podcast capabilities: apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/b5b85600-0625-43b6-89e9-1245bd44532c#0
Great review as always!! And I will certainly agree with you that Garmin makes better watches than Apple. Even tho I'm a Fenix 6X user and don't have a venu, I feel the extra data and battery life you get from Garmin is much better than the redundancy of having another phone with a tinier screen on your wrist.
You can’t say the same about the series 7, can you? The new ECG app changes everything. I would go with the iWatch if it had a better battery life. Right now I’m just too confused.
@@TheEverydayManChannel I can. Honestly I'm a Fenix 6X sapphire user, not a venu 2, but between the AW and the venu I'd take the venu 2. The ECG app change little to nothing for me, as fit active people in their 20s really need not obsess over it
@@lensofthenorth42 my obsession with the ECG app is the increasing number of sudden deaths due to heart attacks and cardiac arrests in people aged between 30 and 40. What do you advice? Right now I have the Instinct solar, venu 2, Apple Watch in mind.
@@TheEverydayManChannel there's a video by an actual doctor (midlife crisis) explaining why it's not really useful even if you get a positive reading from the Apple watch. And being a Pharmacist, I agree with him.
We're splitting hairs at this point. Both the Venu 2 and AW6 are excellent in the OHR department but I found the Venu 2 to be just slightly more responsive.
Im a regular gym goer, but not an 'athlete' or into elite high performance. I also have diabetes and have a heart stent. I enjoy crossfit, HIIT, powerlifting and Spinning. Don't enjoy running! Which one is right for me?
They would both do the job. If you don't mind charging the watch daily the Apple Watch Series 6 is an excellent purchase! The Venu 2 is a bit more "sport" oriented.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for your personal answer. And I have found your video's really helpful in helping me understand this market, as I knew zero about it beyond apple a few days ago! Yeah, I've decided the Venus 2 is best for me. As I said, I don't do running or triathlon, so dont need maps or super extended battery life. And your guidance through video's really helped me reach that conclusion!
Hi from UK 🇬🇧🙂 I changed from iPhone 12 Pro Max and Apple Watch 6, to Google Pixel 6 Pro. I bought a Galaxy watch 4, useless wouldn't hardly work with Pixel 6 Pro, sent it back then bought the Garmin Venu 2S, wow! I'm loving the 2S, and even if I go back to Apple in the future, I'd stick with the Garmin watch now, way better than Apple watch in my opinion. 👍🏻🙂
Great video! Trying to find size comparison info on the Venu 2S in relation to, say, the Venu Sq or an Apple Watch 40 mm. For some reason, it’s impossible to find pictures or videos of the 2S next to one of these watches but I can get a pretty good idea based on your video here. Thanks!
That's a tough one. The Venu 2 doesn't support Cycling Power meters if that's something you're into where the Apple Watch potentially could with the right app/hardware. Neither have navigation but you can download offline mapping apps on the AW6 if that's something you're into. Both will do the job at a basic level though.
There's bad blood between them: www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-04-27/apple-set-to-get-eu-antitrust-complaint-over-spotify-this-week#:~:text=Spotify%20complained%20in%202019%20that,to%20cover%20the%20extra%20costs.
Depends. Do you mind charging a watch daily? Do you ever record very long activities like hiking, ultra marathon, iron man events, etc..? If so the Garmin is probably a better choice. Otherwise the AW6 is an excellent accessory for an iphone. Hope that helps.
if the apple watch had better sleep tracking and more data I would consider it. Like I have a very old fitbit with a black and white screen that has more sleep analysis capability than the latest apple watch so like I just can't bring myself to buying it. And the latest fitbit sense seems nice but like why won't they just make a round form factor. I love that Garmin has huge variety in their watch designs - like there are some very stylish watches. The apple watch 6 looks almost exactly the same as the watch 2 that I have. Personally I'm tossing up between garmin venu 2s and the cheaper vivoactive 4s. The main difference is the screen and a few things like HIIT workouts. like if screen quality isn't the end of the world - the vivoactive 4s is way cheaper and better looking than apple watch 6 and you just get so much more data (and its easier to interact with) with garmin
Interesting and enjoyable video. Thanks! I still use my Garmin Forerunner 305 and Edge so I have history. Is there a way to upload the data from an AW 6 or 7 to Garmin connect?
If you use the phone GPS it can go for 10+ hours depending on settings. I once met someone who ran an entire 100 mile ultra and had used an apple watch connected to a phone without having it die. The internal GPS drains much faster.
Have you done a video of your studio there and how you work flow goes? Do you keep all your footage of everything? So far I'm keeping everything and burning up hard drives lol

Great video and big dilemma. I am a garmin user for 2 years so far and i am thinking to upgrade my watch. I love apple watches and sicne I am iPhone user is ideal pick for me but that battery life and charging routine every day makes me feel that the right choice is garmin instead of Apple Watch. So confused 😐
Kind of up to you! Apple watches will require a daily charge. Garmin's will not. The Apple Watch is certainly more "smart watch" than fitness watch. Good luck!
Another great review! For fitness almost exclusively (no phone/LTE), Garmin by a country mile. For more smartwatch focused features, like a mirror of your phone w/many apps, and if you don't mind charging every single day, Apple.
@@ChaseTheSummit Agree- it's a great product for what it is despite it's terrible battery life. If they improve that and simply add a little more detail around common activity metrics like walk, run and sleep, they will be hypercompetitive. There is not reason they can't add that functionality today. They have the hardware and platform already in place. This is s a big oversight in my opinion. They are excluding a big chunk of the fitness market. people like me who watch your videos. It's clear Garmin owns the fitness watch niche- at least for now.
About the battery life on the Apple Watch. By default it runs most apps in the background, which drains the battery quickly. If you disable this in options, battery life is somewhat improved. :)
Dave, your videos are absolutely amazing. I’m grateful. If I’m doing one of the 33 installed activities on the V2 is there a way to project it from my watch to my TV screen? Strength training for example. Thanks!
The sampling rate varies depending on what you're doing. If you're working out it's 1-second samples continuously. In standby mode it seems to vary probably based on the gyro/accelerometer data. There's no way to change this unfortunately.
It will be the Garmin for me, just ordered one. I just don’t like the look of square watches like the AW, If it looked a little more ‘normal’ in watch standards I wouldn’t doubt as I am using an iPhone as well. The look is just not appealing to me. Thanks for the video!
I've been a Garmin (Forerunner 235) user since January 2016. The Venue 2 is a nice watch. But for me personally too much a smartwatch than a fitness watch. Therefore the Fenix 6 is imho still the No. 1.
Great review. I'm an Android user and current have a Vivoactive 3. Looking to possible upgrade and the amoiled screen and slightly larger size of the Venu 2 has my attention. For me, tbe Apple is a no go because I will not change from Android and already familiar and like Garmin. My interest is health & fitness 1st, smart phone watch features 2nd, so I will stick with Garmin...
Great comparison as always..... But I prefer always Garmin....Garmin is not pulling us in to thier ecosystem....I hate such products which control us what to buy and what to use.....we are human not a puppet
Thank you for the great content! However, therea are 2 questions in my mind: 1. Does the Garmin Venu 2 has some kind of a functionality, which can open gpx files, or show me where I am on a map/blind map, and navigate to the goal and back? Something like the Instinct Graphite has 2. Can I use the Garmin Express desktop app with Venu 2 to exchange the mobile phone with it? I mean to download the sleep stats to the PC and so on (Im not sure what this desktop app can offer, unfortunately poorly documented, and I can not open it until I don't have a garmin device)
Thanks! 1. No, Venu 2 doesn't support navigation at all. The only nav function is "navigate to saved location" in which case it displays a simple bearing (blue arrow) in the direction to travel. There is no mapping or breadcrumb trail maps. 2, Yes, Garmin Express is compatible with Venu 2 and it will sync with Garmin Servers if you don't sync it with a phone.
I am just not keen on apple tracking and selling my data. That and I am old enough to remember when people couldn’t contact you 24/7 in 20 different ways so it’s the Garmin for me.
Although I loved the video, I must say I would like to hear an opinion about which is better. With your experience I would prefer to hear the quirks or the big picture about various watches. By this what I mean is ditch the "depends on the person" and stick to running insights, assuming you are indeed focused on running on this channel. I think it makes for a clearer picture.
Thanks for the feecback. I try to stay as objective as possible in my videos while sharing my opinion as some side input. Everyone is different and has different needs. I'll see what I can do in the future!
Garmin all the way! Use to have apple switched over a year ago because of battery and data info and it was the best switch I ever did. Wouldn’t use anything else now #TeamGarmin 🙌🏼 Great video
I hate touch interface on watchs and i think AMOLED is not the right choice for watchs as well. Watches should be always on without consuming much power and worrying about screen burn or outdoor visibility i always prefer washed out colors of memory in pixel displays all day .

Thanks for sharing!
Is the sleep monitor any good from Garmin ? It is not because graphs are better that the measurement is better . Did you check quality of those measurements ?
It depends on the model. For the Venu 2 it's quite good. Some other older models aren't as good.
If you have an iPhone 📲 is there an app if you want to wear the Venu 2?
Yep! Garmin Connect works on both Android and IOS. No issues.
The lack of a start/stop button on the aw makes it almost impossible to use when raining or sweating and almost impossible to use for a running race. So frustrating😡. Running intervals.....forget it.
Yeah I hate that! I wish you could map one of the buttons to stop/start. Thanks for sharing.
You can press both buttons together for start and stop
Just watched your video and couldn’t agree more about the garmin battery life. Currently waiting on my Venue2 plus to be delivered tomorrow. Swapping over from the Apple Watch 4. I do enjoy the smart watch features, but like you lean more to the fitness tracking side of things. Great video and keep up the great work.
Hope you like the Venu 2!
I have the venu 2 plus and it’s really good. The Apple is not a smartwatch anymore it’s a a yearly update watch.
It's a good one!
You rocked that Dave! Can't believe you didn't script that.
Haha! Thanks. The raw footage was over an hour long 😬
Does the Garmin Venu 2 have a pace alert like the apple watch?
Yep!
Dude - you packed it in! Well done
Thanks Hunter!
Please which one ? Venu 2 or Apple Watch6 ?
I've got a video all about this on my channel 👍
Thank u, why venu 2 didnt have trail run menu? This watch support for trail run?
Garmin can be used on both IOS & Android 👍
Yep!
Which watch is more accurate in terms of heart rate bpm, distance travel, etc?
I'd give GPS accuracy to the garmin and HRM accuracy to the apple.
Which Garmin Watch has the best Touch screen display of every watch
Venu 2 is the best so far when it comes to Garmin. The Apple Watch is still a bit more smooth but that also comes with a trade off to battery life.
Thanks for the comparative review!
I think I'm going to try out a Venu 2 soon thanks to your video. I've never wanted to spend $400 on a fitness tracker, but it looks like I'll have to do so to get everything that I want from one.
Glad you found it helpful! Yeah, it's not cheap but it's a solid device!
I'm waiting your review about Mi Band 6, Heart rate, SpO2, Steps, Cycling...how accurate it is?
You might be waiting a while! Thanks for the feedback though.
Great Review Dave!
If I cycle as well and am using the Garmin Edge Cycling Computer, would you recommend the garmin more than the Apple Watch (as it integrates my performance condition), or the other way around? I Run as often as i’m cycling.
Thanks!
I've found myself wearing my AW for all-day use, then switching to my F6 Pro for sleep and exercise.
That’s a good idea and I’ve thought of giving my AW 6 to my wife and taking her AW 4 and then buying a garmin just like you stated.
@@braddavister137 I've got the sapphire edition. Really the only way to go IMO, especially if you're active outdoors
Nice! That's a great combo.
Big fan.
@@ChaseTheSummit It was a good comparison video.
Do AirPods work with Garmin?
Seems to be hit or miss depending on the Garmin. I don't have personal experience with the airpods unfortunately!
Anytime garmin
Fitness app is too complicated and no data at all!
Thanks for sharing.
If I have an iPhone, am I able to listen to podcasts thru the Venu 2 w/o any paid subscriptions?
Thanks for sharing. I think they both have their uses. The Garmin's are certainly a better sport centric watch!
I know of 4 such people, all fit as a fiddle. They ate right, followed all the right stuff, but died due to afib. I really wish the garmin had the ECG. It would be a no brainer me in that case.
Huge like as usual especially with the Eid Al-Fitre calendar notification 🙏
Thank you 🙌
Where can I buy gamin venu 2 at Canada, Quebec? Tanks
They seem to be out of stock most places unfortunately! I think Amazon will be restocked soon. Thanks for watching!
Hello Sir. May i know, what's the Venu Watch Face name? The one with a lot of circular widget i mean.
It comes pre-installed on the venu.
So indecisive about which watch you buy! Do you feel that the workoutdoors app sufficiently bridges the gap between Garmin and Apple?
It helps, but nothing helps the lackluster battery life of the Apple watch
What colour of the Garmin Venu 2 S look the best on women do you think ?
I think that's entirely up to you!
Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Venu had better HR accuracy in your tests? Wow. Interesting because most reviews before the Venu have said the AW6 has the most wrist based accuracy
We're splitting hairs at this point. Both the Venu 2 and AW6 are excellent in the OHR department but I found the Venu 2 to be just slightly more responsive.
@@ChaseTheSummit Nice!
Fantastic video. I have such issues because I love Garmin but apple is so easy to use. It is just the battery life that is the biggest issue
Thanks! For sure... If apple did some magic to the battery of the Apple Watch everyone else would be in trouble!
obviously, GARMIN! long battery life!
I reallyyy would like to see you do a comparison on Series 8 and Venu 2/2s because I am indecisive and I do not know which one to get 😂
I'll see what I can do!
@@ChaseTheSummit I appreciate it!
Hey! choose between venu 2 and forerunner 935 - for running in the mountains! which one do you recommend? what is more accurate altimeter and gps?
I'd go for the 935 so that you have some form of breadcrumb navigation.
You can wear the Apple watch surfing! Can you do that with the Venu2?
Yep, the Venu 2 is waterproof to 50 meters. Using an app like this would help too: apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/edc1147f-466f-4a37-9d3d-0487c4fa6c3c
@@ChaseTheSummit It doesn't say the venu 2 is a compatible device on the app.
Venu 2 top 🔥
Hi from UK 🇬🇧🙂
I changed from iPhone 12 Pro Max and Apple Watch 6, to Google Pixel 6 Pro. 👍🏻🙂
Glad you found something that works! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Eid el fitr !
To you as well!
@@ChaseTheSummit thank you 😊 Brother
Great video! Trying to find size comparison info on the Venu 2S in relation to, say, the Venu Sq or an Apple Watch 40 mm. For some reason, it’s impossible to find pictures or videos of the 2S next to one of these watches but I can get a pretty good idea based on your video here. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Which one is better for Mountain biking ?
the garmin
That's a tough one. The Venu 2 doesn't support Cycling Power meters if that's something you're into where the Apple Watch potentially could with the right app/hardware. Neither have navigation but you can download offline mapping apps on the AW6 if that's something you're into. Both will do the job at a basic level though.
,k,,k,
The Spotify thing is them. Apple has made it available for offline music but Spotify hasn’t built it into their app.
Interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with Garmin? Maybe they paid for exclusivity.
@@ChaseTheSummit Yep. Des is correct. Bad blood and Spotify is probably being a bit stubborn for their own reasons.
It’s not just you, I hate the battery life on my Apple Watch! That’s why I’m considering the Garmin.
Hi there, awesome video! Btw I own an IPhone but I’m more sport oriented (mountain biking, weight training, HIIT), should I get AW6 or Garmin?
Depends. Do you mind charging a watch daily? Do you ever record very long activities like hiking, ultra marathon, iron man events, etc..? If so the Garmin is probably a better choice. Otherwise the AW6 is an excellent accessory for an iphone. Hope that helps.
This is excellent review without any bias. I am fan of Garmin
Thanks!
If I use garmin venu 2 with iPhone and apple music, can i operate apple music with garmin venu 2 like volume up, down, next song?
Yes, but you can't download apple music to the watch. Only control it.
How about venu sq vs apple series 6?
I've got an SQ vs AWSE video that might interest you.
What about Garmin vivoactive over venu 2 ??
Thanks for your unbiased and to the point comparison!
if the apple watch had better sleep tracking and more data I would consider it.
It is strange how limited the wellness data is on the Apple Watch. I'm sure it will get better as it evolves and the competition gets more fierce.
Interesting and enjoyable video. Thanks! I still use my Garmin Forerunner 305 and Edge so I have history. Is there a way to upload the data from an AW 6 or 7 to Garmin connect?
Thanks! Sure you can use something like "rungap" to sync your runs accross garmin and apple.
Hi Dave and thanks for great video! Do you know what is the battery life on AW6 or 7 during the hiking for example and using GPS from phone?
If you use the phone GPS it can go for 10+ hours depending on settings. I once met someone who ran an entire 100 mile ultra and had used an apple watch connected to a phone without having it die. The internal GPS drains much faster.
Have you done a video of your studio there and how you work flow goes? Do you keep all your footage of everything? So far I'm keeping everything and burning up hard drives lol
Hey Tony! I haven't made a TH-cam studio update in a while but I plan to. I'm actually considering launching a second channel that focuses on the "content creation" side of things because I have a real passion for it and I'd love to share my process. Thanks for watching!
@@ChaseTheSummit that would be great

That would make for a good comparison video! If only I had a Venu 1!
Love your channel..
Still sceptical about OLED touch screen for a fitness device. With the sweat and dirt everytime , the longevity can be a question.
I still love my fenix 6 and very happy about it
Thanks! I think we're going to start seeing more and more OLED simply that's because what people prefer. Transflective is definitely still the best for outdoor activities and battery life.
Great comparison, great video! Thank you very much Dave!
Glad you liked it!
If there Is a you Tube Channel who earns a dumb up, Then there is Chase the summit
Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah Apple certainly has it's place as well!
This was so helpful! Also, what is the AW app you’re using at 3:32?
Thanks! That's "Workoutdoors"
About the battery life on the Apple Watch. By default it runs most apps in the background, which drains the battery quickly. If you disable this in options, battery life is somewhat improved. :)
Thanks for sharing.
Very thankful for your videos. Very informative and the quality is awesome!
Glad you find them helpful!
Dave, your videos are absolutely amazing. I’m grateful. If I’m doing one of the 33 installed activities on the V2 is there a way to project it from my watch to my TV screen? Strength training for example. Thanks!
That would be neat but not really possible yet. Sounds like you're looking for something similar to Apple Fitness + with the Apple Watch.
Hi Dave, how often do the Apple 6 sample it’s continuous heart rate? Thanks!
The sampling rate varies depending on what you're doing. If you're working out it's 1-second samples continuously. In standby mode it seems to vary probably based on the gyro/accelerometer data. There's no way to change this unfortunately.
@@ChaseTheSummit Dave, Thanks!
The standby mode sound dynamic. This can be a problem to monitor the daily heart rate like in Venu or polar.
I have the Garmin very happy
Thanks for sharing.
It will be the Garmin for me, just ordered one. I just don’t like the look of square watches like the AW, If it looked a little more ‘normal’ in watch standards I wouldn’t doubt as I am using an iPhone as well. The look is just not appealing to me.
Thanks for the video!
Nice! I hope you enjoy it!
Great comparison. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I've been a Garmin (Forerunner 235) user since January 2016. The Venue 2 is a nice watch. But for me personally too much a smartwatch than a fitness watch. Therefore the Fenix 6 is imho still the No. 1.
Fenix is certainly hard to beat!
Impressed by the venu 2 batt life, but price was higher than I expected. It's fenix or nothing for me. I've been getting by with AW.
Thanks! The AW is a great device I just wish they'd consider allowing Android folks to use it!
Awesome video man!
Thanks!
Great comparison as always.....
But I prefer always Garmin....Garmin is not pulling us in to thier ecosystem....I hate such products which control us what to buy and what to use.....we are human not a puppet
That's deep! I think apple sees it as an inclusive ecosystem to have things work so well together. It is frustrating how closed off it can be though.
Thank you for the great content! However, therea are 2 questions in my mind:
1. Does the Garmin Venu 2 has some kind of a functionality, which can open gpx files, or show me where I am on a map/blind map, and navigate to the goal and back? Something like the Instinct Graphite has
Can you put 20 mm bands on the venu ??
Only 22mm bands are compatible.
και εμενα "μου λειπεις", nice video! and nice tattoo ;)
I am just not keen on apple tracking and selling my data. That and I am old enough to remember when people couldn’t contact you 24/7 in 20 different ways so it’s the Garmin for me.
I don't think Apple is the only one selling data but I get where you're coming from.
@@ChaseTheSummit I know, just the largest and most intrusive.

I hate touch interface on watchs and i think AMOLED is not the right choice for watchs as well.
Watches should be always on without consuming much power and worrying about screen burn or outdoor visibility i always prefer washed out colors of memory in pixel displays all day .
There's certainly different tools for different jobs. Thanks for sharing.
I would look into the Vivoactive line instead then.
