    After my Fossil smart watch died in the middle of a 4 mile walk, I decided it was time to switch to something with better battery life! It was hard to let go of the smart watch features of wear os, but 9 times out of 10 I only use my watch for fitness tracking. So I decided to get the Garmin SQ and im super happy with it! Well done dude. Recently got the Apple Watch 8 for my wife. Spending 2 days trying it out, the battery life was awful, the fitness/sleep data was good but locked down to Apple Health apps, and the interface was super flexible, but very cluttered. I ended up buying the Venu SQ2 today. The extra battery life will be well worth the losing the EKG, and Dick Tracy phone watch ability. So for what it's worth the Apple Watch 8 / SQ2 seem to remain a similar comparison with your Apple SE / SQ review.

    Wish I had found this before I made my selection just for the information being so condensed and comprehensive. I bought the Garmen SQ music version it's $100 off right now so how can you go wrong? It was essentially the same price as my old vivosmart very basic Garmin Fitness watch. I love that it looks like you might have an Apple watch on because of the square face but it would be nice to have the voice feature and ability to tell it to set appointments appointments for instance. But I can do that using the hey Google feature on my Android and the Garmin will give me notifications. Battery life is very good and it charges fast. I put my own photo on the watch face. I'm very happy with it!

    Great Comparison. Comparing garmin, might be a good option to select data acquisition each second instead of smart mode - shorter battery life, better accuracy of the track. Good if someone watns accurate route instead of long battery life :)

When the iPhone came out one area of criticism was the battery life, especially when compared to a trusty Nokia that could achieve over 5 days on one charge. Now most people are used to charging their smartphone at least every 1-2 days. The Apple Watch is more a mini-iPhone than watch so if you view it that way the battery life may be less an issue?

    I'm sure you didn't change tracking mode from smart to per second. It happen to me so the gps and heart rate accuracy is off. And not mention, garmin have ANT feature, which can connect to external sensor such as heart rate strap, shoes sensor, cadence sensor, speed sensor, compass, etc

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing! The difference between "Smart" and 1 second recording is negligible for the most part. In some cases "smart" is actually more accurate because it eliminates erroneous data points when standing still or moving slowly from GPS drift. "Smart" recording actually does sample your location ever 1-second it just filters out data points that are too close together to be considered relevant. The "smart" recording setting has no effect on Heartrate recording. That will always be 1-second during an activity.
      ANT+ is a nice feature for some accessories for sure! These days Bluetooth seems to be more prominent but ANT+ is certainly nicer for older accessories. Thanks for watching.

      @@ChaseTheSummit have you ever tried or just read the documentation? It's not so many different if you just using for running. But if you use for cycling (or by car) it's have huge effect
      And ANT+ is not for older accessories. It's different with Bluetooth which the Bluetooth only have one receiver, ANT+ can broadcasted several receiver at a time. For example the speed and cadence sensor at bicycle can broadcasted to cyclo comp and garmin watch simultaneously. That's why ANT+ protocol use for fitness or sport accessories until now and not replaced with Bluetooth

    Not being able to play Spotify on a run with Apple without cellular data is a deal breaker. If i need to bring my cell phone on a run I don't need a "smart watch". The whole point is to leave the phone and wallet in the car so u can run in comfort. Not many people will pay an extra $70/mo for a second data plan so they can stream music over cellular on a smart watch while running. You would need a second data plan with minimum 20GB/mo... That's like $70-120/mo on top of your reg cell phone plan.
    Garmin seems OK with 1 huge flaw...2 to 3hr battery with GPS, heart rate, music, and Bluetooth.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's strange that Apple took this feature away. Hopefully they get enough complaints and allow it to come back!

    • @exy2633
      @exy2633 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ChaseTheSummit Yes, perhaps they will listen... All good smart watches support offline music mode now. People only want 4 features. 1) accurate calorie count based on heart rate and gps
      2) offline music from Spotify and like
      3) payment service via NFC
      4) Battery to last all day...with 2hr exercise and music included
      Other features are extras. Imo any smart watch that doesn't have that in 2021 should auto fail in any review. Perhaps I'm harsh :) but tbh I really don't think so.
      Features like rep counting are ridiculous. I even think sleep tracking is questionable. I'm pretty sure I know if I slept well or not. I don't need a watch to tell me how much energy I have. My body has its own built in sensors evolved over millions of years for all that. These watches should focus on getting the minimum right...because they can barely do that.
      Anyway, nice review. I'm just surprised how hard it is to get a watch under $600 that can meet those minimum standards.
