I think it's a pretty impressive result for the Venu 2 Plus given how much cheaper it is than the Epix Gen 2. They are intended for different types of customers of course, but it's great to see Garmin putting some of its best technology and features into a smartwatch style body that is clearly intended to be competing more with the Apple Watch than with rugged fitness watches for serious endurance athletes.
You make great reviews. I really wanted the epic 2, but had to be honest with myself in how many of the features I would actually use. For half the price the Venu 2 plus is what im going to get and I couldnt be happier!
Thank you! This is a great review at just the right pace. I am not into running anymore since I hurt my meniscuses doing sports when I was younger, so I would choose the Venu 2 Plus for the types of sports I do (swimming, biking, and hiking, plus floor climbing during the pandemics).
@@ChaseTheSummit its clear and well thought through and your passion shows. I think its now up to the viewer to increase the speed of the video to make it shorter but you speak very fast but clear so normal speed and time is fine for me 😅. Keep up the great content
Great review. I've been using the Venu 2 Plus for a couple of years and have heard others raved about the Epix so I thought about "switching up". However, I am only a casual runner that does a daily run for about an hour and the occasional hike so I don't need the more sophisticated features of the Epix. The V2P has been a great watch for me and I will cherish it, for now at least 🙂
A very informative comparison. I'm a long time Fenix Series user and I recently purchased both the Fenix 7x SS and Epix 2 Sapphire. I like variety and the ability to "change things up" which is why purchased both watches. My wife wears the Venu 2 Plus and enjoys the experience.
Fabulous review - thank you. For me, it is always about the fitness and maps rather than the smartphone element so that really cleared up the 'mystery' of 2 of the major ranges offered by Garmin and importantly the reason behind the price
I've never had a smartwatch before and I'm finally getting more in to fitness. I was looking at the Venu more since it's great for basic health tracking. However, I am hiking a lot more and having a map on my wrist is a HUGE benefit. A few weeks ago I was on a hike and had to keep pulling out my phone to make sure I was on the right trail because there were multiple trails all close to each other, I even almost missed my turn because of this. Having that right there on my wrist is a huge plus. My buddy has a Fenix 5 with the sapphire glass, he smashed it against a rock while white water rafting. The bezel was scratched to hell but the glass was completely fine. EDIT: Also the Epix has a great golf tracker and that's a huge selling point
I have Fenix 7X Solar Sapphire and recently got a Venu 2 (on sale) for daily use. The Fenix 7X is just too big and heavy for daily use. The Venu is perfect and has the basic activities I need although metrics are trimmed down. I plan to keep using my Venu 2 for daily use and for travel. Its much lighter and if something happens to it I won't be as upset as if something happened to my Fenix 7. I use my Fenix 7 for outdoor activities and exercising because it tracks a lot more metrics and has mapping. I would recommend the Venu 2 for anyone who doesn't need performance metrics beyond the basics, doesn't need mapping and wants to save some money. My Venu 2 records all my vitals, sleep score factors and has built in spotify which I use often. It has messaging, the battery lasts 11-12 days, has AMOLED screen, and is much lighter and comfortable for daily use. Doesn't get much better than that for a daily watch. The best part is that all my vitals and performance metrics are updated in the Garmin app seamlessly.
i am also an avid golfer so i ordered the EPIX PRO sapphire in 47mm....got it for 1100 ( canadian ) 830 ( US ).....i like the Venu 2 plus also but will use the other features especially the golf... cheers from Canada
I have a feeling there will be an Epix Plus in 6-9 months. It just makes sense! I'll stay with my Venu 2 for now till then as I'm in the gym mostly. Outstanding comparison brother! 🤙🏻
@@ChaseTheSummit unfortunately time has not been kind regarding the Epix 2 Plus! On a bright note I got the Epix 2 brand new today for 750! Had the 7XSS for a month and loved the 🔦 but it felt too bulky so I made the switch to the Epix 2!!!
Great review I'm thankful for it. Despite these two watches being in different leagues, I'm glad you compared them because these are the two I'm deciding between. It's a hard choice. The V2+ would probably fit most of my needs, but having maps would be great for mountain biking and I am a person that is likely to scratch up watches pretty badly, so that Sapphire quality would definitely beat out a thin bezel Gorilla Glass 3. But I could buy two V2+'s for the price of the Epix... Hard choice.
It is a hard choice. I’m considering moving to one of these from my old but still very functional and great battery life Vivoactive hr. The transflective display is great in sunlight and battery life but difficult to see when ambient light is poor. I still want great battery life and durability, so I lean to the epix. But I like the smart watch features the V2+ offers which the Epix does not. And I really value the sapphire crystal. Maybe I need to wait on the Epix 3. The V2+ just doesn’t strike me as very rugged. I’ve dialed back my road biking after an accident last year so I mostly play tennis, ride my Peloton, and do some walking these days. I suspect the V2+ would serve me well but I really want that sapphire crystal. Hmm.
I have a Fenix 6 Pro (titanium) that I was considering replacing with the Epix 2. I have small wrists and always thought that the Fenix was a bit ungainly, and the display was never up to spec (maybe downright ugly) considering the price point. For someone looking to buy a new watch and has money to spend, the Epix 2 would be great. I didn't purchase it, though. Instead, I opted to keep the Fenix 6 and use it for training while buying the Venu 2+ for daily use and things like golf (even though the Fenix supports this). I have to say, the Venu 2 is so much nicer to use on a daily basis than the Fenix. It looks better, the screen is gorgeous, you could wear it with a suit, and it has a good chunk of the functionality of the Fenix. That said, the Fenix blows it out of the water for training and sports usage. What Garmin really needs to do is start with the Venu 2+ form factor, add the training functionality of the Forerunner 745 while keeping all of the "other" sports profiles of the Venu 2+. This would be an absolutely killer device for someone who wants something that looks nice but also has high-end training features.
Hi Dave, great video! I've been looking for a while for a smartwatch with AMOLED display for mountain biking. The main reason I'm leaning towards the Epix is the MTB maps. It's hard to justify the price only for this feature, but I'd like it. Can you tell me more about it? Are they easy to access? Thanks!
It will certainly work for mountain biking but I have heard complaints from some users that the screen "falls asleep" when mounted to bike handlebars. However, it's not an issue if you're wearing it on your wrist.
BLUF: I ordered the EPIX 2. I’m training for a 70.3 Ironman and Spartan Beast. For me, that means 5+ hour events that my Apple Watch just can’t handle. Not to mention, the EPIX 2 has far more metrics and serious training features. I’m happy with my decision and excited to receive the EPIX 2. However, at more than twice the price of the Venue and Apple Watch, I can’t believe it doesn’t have a cellular option at all. Never mind a cellular option that would allow me to take calls without a phone. When I bought my Apple Watch I wondered if I would really use the cellular capability without the phone near by and I have to say it has been a life saver on more than one occasion. On one of my long runs last year, I experienced an injury and had to call my wife. I was very glad to have that option with my Series 6 Apple Watch. I also enjoy streaming music over the cellular connection while running without the need to take my phone.
Just received my Epix2 and put next to my Venu2… Venu2 just like a toy 🧸 and I am selling it and keep Epix2, love it and looks much smarter like my old F3HR!
I moved up from the FR935 to the Epix and love the screen and what it brings in terms of overall comfort but I find it just too bulky for everyday life and haven't been impressed with the new metrics like Stamina (raced a 10k and was told I still had 53% stamina left, right...) and since I have an Edge 530 I can get the metrics there...if I'm bothered ;-) Also the maps look great but I can't really see a use case where I'll use them over those on my phone (or my Edge 530). I guess I'll have to give the Venu 2 a try !
The Venu 2 is a great watch. Unfortunately you do give up mapping, and the training tools. But the display is nearly identical and most of the other features are still there.
I consider myself a average runner and training for my first half and keen weight training also. I have had a Apple Watch series 5 for 2 years. Amazing but fed up with the battery life and also limited tracking options as I’ve now got more into stats and serious about running. I just picked up the Garmin 255 and although it’s a great watch I do miss the display of vibrancy of the Apple Watch. So my bank balance has had a shock as I’ve just bought the epix 2 😬. Can’t wait to receive it.
I have the Venu 2 (not the plus) and it was giving me very low sleep readings, under 40 for most nights which gave me low body battery readings. I don't know why. Last week I purchased the Epix 2 and my sleep readings went up to the normal zone, around 75-90. Perhaps I had something setup wrong or it may have been a faulty unit. I'm very happy with the Epix!
I feel like Fenix 7 and Epix were designed to be released during Q3/4 2021 but then got delayed. That could be why many of these new features are missing. I would have loved LTE and advanced assistance
@@nami1540 I doubt the smart festures would come as that would decrease battery and durability but you could be right although I think that would fit the epix more than fenix. For ekg I don’t care as much but I am a bit pissed they didn’t add lte. That would of been the perfect watch with a built in sat communicator. I am happy with the flashlight tho haha
1. garmin has stated that due to the 100m waterproofing on epix/fenix vs. the 50m waterproofing on venu 2 is the reason they couldn't develop a mic/speaker combo that allowed for clear calls and voice control on epix/fenix. that's what they say at least. 2. call me cynical but i can't help but feel garmin is holding LTE back so all the heavy garmin users buy the fenix/epix for upwards of $1000 only to end up buying the fenix7/epix "PLUS" in a year that comes with LTE and a few other small features for yet another $1000.
I’m ready to upgrade my Garmin FR 920XT that I’ve had since 2016. It has given me a lot of issues. I did a 12 mile bike ride today and calories came out to 20,485. This happens all the time no matter how many times I reset it it’s fine one day than goes back. Also, the barometric altimeter must be broken because it doesn’t read elevation anymore. Looking to get rid of the Apple Watch. So I’m leaning towards a Venu 2 plus?
Honestly I'm still rocking the first venu then you two looks really cool and I really like that epix. I just don't know if I need the upgrade just yet because you know my watch still works but it's definitely enticing.
Great review thanks. Clear concise and focused. I was soooo close to buying a Venus 2 Plus. I assumed from reviews that I could load maps onto both of these watches. My understanding now is that I cannot. The Epix will - but the Venu will not. I am in the backcountry for long distance multi-day (weeks) hikes, slot canyons etc. in southern Utah. I carry a GPS but I really wanted a second easy to read device. Am I understanding all this correctly. Is the Epix made to load maps and the Venu 2 is not? I am not asking about 3rd party apps I want a watch that has this feature natively. Thanks again for your insight.
Dave, any difference in brightness or reflections of the amoled screen between the Venu and Epix? Trying to decide between Epix and Epix Sapphire and interested to know if the sapphire screen is noticeably darker and has more reflections as is the case with Fenix 6 gorilla glass vs sapphire screen.
There's a very slight difference between gorilla glass and Sapphire. If you look closely in some of the B-Roll shots in this video you'll see a very slight haze to the Epix display due to the sapphire. That said, it's minimal and I'd take that slight haze for the extreme scratch resistance of the Epix Sapphire. I have another video coming later this week comparing non-sapphire to sapphire Epix / Fenix 7 models. Stay tuned!
I've had the venu 2+ for a week now. I like it. I also have the Fenix 7s coming today. I hope it will be an easy decision on what one to keep. Awesome videos! Thank you!!
I think you'll be surprised how difficult of a decision it might be. The Venu 2 Plus is a great watch and that display is REALLY hard to take off your wrist. Hope you enjoy it!
It would be great if you let us know which one you prefer! I have the Venu 2 on my wrist right now, but the only thing I really like is the screen. Dont like the looks of the watch, looks like a regular samsung watch, Thinking about returning it and getting a fenix 7 instead, my only concern is the weight and the screen. Thinking about changing it for the 945 lte same sensors less weight then the 7. Please us know.
@@gudelauneee play better has a great return policy. They give u 60 days to decide if what u bought works out. I live in the Minneapolis area and nobody has either of those in stock.
GREAT video , thank u. I was 100% buying the Venu2+ mainly cos of ability to take calls, right up until the Maps part. 😭 I'll stick with my Fenix 6X until they combine these 2 functionalities. 👍
I bought the Garmin Venu 2S a couple of days ago. Was trying to find a good reviewer reviewing these two watches before ordering, but I find em after ordering lol. Good rundown though, I am glad I went with the Venu 2S to pair with my Venu SQ. I do very little outdoor stuff, so the features on the Venu should suffice. I think Garmin has done a great job with the Venu to bring it on par as a smartwatch, the Venu SQ not so much. I prefer smaller/lighter versions of watches so I can wear them continuously. Garmin is amazing in terms of the details on fitness reports.
@@ChaseTheSummit hey, happened to come across your video again, TH-cam didn't notify smh. So I'm using the SQ for workouts and 2S for the rest of the day. I wanted to sell the SQ but since the resale is only about $80, I am keeping it. I like square watches more, but the SQ had some clunky software. Garmin should just integrate integrate the Venue lineup into one (just update the software and hardware on the SQ)...I would pay for a Venu 2 SQ
The one thing I really like on the epiz is just the Bezel around the screen. To me that's much more aesthetically pleasing but I don't want to pay 600 more dollars just for that feature lol
My HRM-Run and the maps are the decision maker for me. I was hoping to go smaller, but not yet! Epix! When they are available in Canada I’ll use your link
I just picked up the Venu 2 plus and it's great. I can also pick up the Epix 2 or Fenix 7 with sapphire, but I wonder how long the watch will last before it's outdated or unsupported. I can justify 1k on a mechanical watch because with some occasional maintenance, it could last a lifetime. I guess if you get 5 years out of a smartwatch before it's unusable, it will cost $200 per year to use the watch. How long do you think the Epix Gen 2 will be usable? thanks.
Garmin supports their watches indefinitely. As long as it works it will pair with Garmin Connect. As an example I have a 10 year old Garmin Fenix (original version) that still works and can still upload activities to Garmin Connect and Strava. That said, over time the lithium batteries in these watches do degrade so it’s unlikely you’ll see the same performance 5-10 years down the road. I’m also curious to see the longevity of these new AMOLED displays since it’s such new tech. All in all though, I wouldn’t be too concerned about Garmin “dropping support” because that’s not the case.
I have a Fenix 3 that is about 6 years old now. Battery life is to the point where I need to now charge it daily. One feature I use (or rather used to use) a lot is golf course GPS and that functionality ceased working about a year ago. I contacted Garmin to attempt a fix but they were unable to resurrect. With that functionality lost, I'm in the market for an upgrade!
Doc Robby 10 minutes ago A fantastic comparison, thank you. Another interesting tidbit is that the sapphire version of the Epix 2 has 32GB of storage vs 16GB on the non-sapphire steel version. Also, only the sapphire version has multi GPS.
Thanks for the review! My only concern with the epix/Fenix line is all day tracking. I'm someone who wears my vivoactive 4 24/7, I want the Fenix/epix for the mapping but I'm worried it'll be too uncomfortable to wear all the time compared to the venu 2+. I also wish epix had calling. What do you think?
I had a similar concern when I moved from my Forerunner 235 to my Fenix 6 Pro. For the first day or two, it took some getting used to, but a few months later I don't even notice it at all. Each to their own, but I suspect that you will be surprised with how comfortable the bigger watches actually are.
It takes some getting used to wearing a larger watch. I suppose I’m not a great reference because I have lots of watches but I personally don’t have an issue sleeping with the Epix or 47mm Fenix 7. I’m not a big person at 5’6” / 155lb so take that for what it’s worth. The 7X on the other hand gets a little unwieldy when you’re trying to sleep.
@@ChaseTheSummit I have the Fenix 5s Plus as well as the Venu and Venu 2 plus. All are great, but if I were buying a watch today, I'd get the Venu. It has just about everything the other 2 watches have for the amateur athlete and has a great display --- and is tons cheaper (I would spend the difference on a good HRM strap like the Polar Verity). My only wish is that Garmin would design the case to look a bit more interesting. One tip: The new Fenix 7 pro mb watch face is awesome - especially with the always on display mode. Works great on all three watches!
Hmm... That's a good question. I'm pretty removed from a team sport background but I think something like a Forerunner 55, 245, or even a Coros Pace 2 might be a good option.
My wife has the vivoactive 3 (venu without AMOLED) and my daughter has the venu, and they're both great devices. Personally I love the sapphire glass on my fenix, much prefer using buttons to control the watch, and find the mapping on my fenix unparalleled. It's Epix all the way for me...
I think back in the days it was fair to say that the VA/Venu were like mini-Fenix because they have barometric altimeters and the sports profile selection was super versatile with golf, skiing etc included, but I don't think it would be accurate to say that the 2+ would be a mini-Epix, since the Venu 2+ has the smartwatch functions Epix is missing.
I consider the Forerunner 945 to be the "mini fenix" because it has mapping and the advanced training stuff... But yeah, I think the Venu 2 / Plus models are right for a lot of people!
@@ChaseTheSummit But does 945 now have barometric altimeter? I've always thought FRs are the runner-series and VA offered detailed data for multisports like golf & skiing, the latter which needs the altimeter. Plus apps offer breadcrumb mapping also for the cheaper watches. Tried a few times but unfortunately my internal compass is too good for me to need a map and I don't run ultras either where it a tuslõy would be necessary.
For the price point Epix should really be the "EVERYTHING" watch with the voice / phone features as well as LTE option. I guess that's what Epix 3 is for 🙄 but it does beg the question: are we looking at Fenix 6 -> 7 release schedule or Venu 2 -> 2+ schedule for next Epix models
contd - I would assume we are looking at a shorter model refresh timeline with incremental improvements built in (a la Venu 2 -> 2+), but imo that does make a pretty bad overall experience when it comes to an item that is so expensive. Paying $1k for a watch and then having a newer version out in less than a year will start to put people off of Garmin
I kind of agree. I was hoping they'd really push the limits considering the "EPIX" name and throw everything at it. But... It's really just a fenix with a nice display. Maybe we'll see a "plus" variant down the road.
@Chase the Summit Another point to consider is that ALL the marketing material for this watch says their target demographic is not the Fenix owner who wants a nice display, but rather high end smartwatch users who want to take their fitness more seriously. Given that's their target demographic it makes the call / mic / LTE omissions seem even worse
I've been watching your channl for some time now and to be honest I really respect your opinion. Always seen you with cap and now you seem to wear them less. I like the fact you rock the bald look. It looks good. Since COVID I also started shaving or running the machine with no cap. Life is so easy now. lol. Love it. On the flip side are you android or iOS user?. I have the s21 ultra and wanted to know how these os's compare when using likes of Garmin's or other brands. Thanks dude. Keep up the good work. I'm android lover but wanted to know if iOS has benefits when using likes of Garmin's app. Thanks.
Thanks! Lol yeah, I wear the cap occasionally but I’ve been shaving my dome since I was a kid. Hair is too much work lol. In terms of IOS/Android and Garmin I’d say the user experience is pretty similar on both. That said, I think android users have less connectivity issues overall and they also get the added benefit of replying to text message son the watch which you can’t do with an iPhone due to apples limitations. I personally use an iPhone 13 Pro but only because it makes other aspects of my life easier. I have an android phone kicking around just for testing purposes.
Damn been watching all of your videos all week. Bought the Venu 2 but hate that it looks like a samsung watch. Thinking about returning it and changing it for a fenix 7, but afraid that I will not like the screen in comparison to the venu, thinking about the 945 lte because is less weight then the venu and same sensors. Epix, to expensive. To hard of a decicion lol! great video!
I just wish they would make a Venu 2 Luxe or somehing similar. I'd really like a steel case etc. I'd really like a more luxury watch feel and wouldn't mind paying a bit extra.
I think the Venu 2 Plus is about as luxe as it will get. It does have a metal back plate unlike the original Venu 2 so it feels a little nicer. A sapphire lens or titanium bezel would be nice though. Thanks for watching!
It's about as good as all of the other Garmins. That's to say in my testing it's a mixed bag. Some days it's bang on, some days it seems low. All in all, I don't think any wrist based SpO2 sensor is quite there yet.
Thank you for the review. The design of Venu 2+ looks better for me but it terms of functionality Epix is better. I will just stay with my old Amazfit Pace
Lol, they’re certainly not cheap. Then again, neither was the Fenix 6 when it was released. A Solar titanium Fenix 6 would set you back over $1000 2 years ago!
@@markroyds23 ya, they also are excellent quality and will last long. Which is why I feel confident in buying a used one. I bought a used 955 solar and love it. Will keep for 2 years then probably will buy a used Fenix 7 or Enduro 2 then
I’d take the Pace 2 over the Vantage M. They both have nearly the same feature set. I prefer the user interface and display of the Pace 2 . But that’s my personal opinion.
SQ2 is a great watch in some ways better than the original Venu 2 (better GPS performance). It's missing a few things but great for every day wear. I have a video about it on the channel!
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've watched the other video before. Battery life, ECG (that probably I will never use, but we all need an ECG on our watches!) is pushing me towards the Venu 2 pro, BUT, I'm an apple user, I've got an iPhone and a Mac, and I love all those stupid aftermarket accessories that nobody wants to do for Garmin watches, so I'm also thinking of the series 8 Amaz. Prime offer. Honestly, having to recharge it every day, is a really game changer that should let me choose the Garmin instead?
Nice video, Dave. Multi GPS is only on the sapphire version of Epix, I believe. Another minor point: county club types should note that the Epix has tennis, but Venu 2 Plus does not 🤓
Yep, you’re correct. The regular Epix does have Multi GNSS though which is still an upgrade over the Fenix 6 it just can’t use dual frequencies simultaneously. It’s funny that they leave sports like Tennis out of certain watches. I wonder why? Does the activity profile provide any specific data to tennis or is it just a clone of the “Cardio” profile?
Yep, there's something called "Physio Trueup" that keeps the watches in sync. You set one as your primary "activity tracker" for sleep/daily metrics but you can use another to track a training block.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks Dave, For strength training like weight lifting, pushups which one will you recomend for good performance, Venu 2 or Apple Watch 7?
How is the voice assistant on the venu 2. Does what you ask on it show up on the watch and tell you the answer? I have the fenix 6x, but thinking about adding the venu 2 for the voice assistant. Keep up the great work!
It's just as good as talking directly to your phone. The watch itself isn't doing any of the brains of the operation. It's simply a microphone that will transmit your voice data to the phone to be deciphered. If you have problems with Google / Siri you'll still have problems with the Venu 2 Plus.
Hi, what do U think about active calories measuring accuracy on Garmin watches? I tested Tactix Delta against Samsung Galaxy 4 during stationary indoor bike ride. GW4 was much stricter to my surprise. Does stricter mean more accurate?
It depends what they're measuring and whether or not they're including your Basal Metabolic Rate in the calculation. From what I've tested all of the brands seem to be all over the place on this and rarely do I find two that align. Garmin tends to be consistent between it's own devices but not comparable to others.
When you compare apple watch 7 and garmin venu 2 plus are you able to talk about continuous heart rate monitoring please? As I believe the apple watch is more periodic as opposed to live? Love looking at my watch and knowing exactly what my heart rate is.
Nearly the same in terms of overall CPU/UI responsiveness. They’re both quite good. The Epix might have an eeeeever so slight edge in some situations but I don’t ever find myself frustrated using the Venu 2 Plus.
In most cases yes. But there are some situations if the screen gets very wet, you’re swimming, or you’re wearing thick gloves it becomes a problem. The buttons on the epix are much easier in those cases. The touch screen on the V2+ is very good though!
@@ChaseTheSummit I had thick gloves (for skiing). Sure, touch specific item can be problematic but I can't image press a small button in thick gloves.
Great video. I’m leaning towards the epix, but the Sapphire version feels so expensive. It’s only an extra hundred dollars but I’m thinking about getting the base Epix model, but is that dumb to not spring for it and just get the better screen?
Personally if you’re already looking at something this expensive I’d spring for the Sapphire. The glass is SOOOO much more durable and you get more storage, and multi-band GPS on top of that. BUT, if you’re dead set on getting the base model there’s nothing wrong with that either.
For me, the Venu 2 plus is more interesting, beacuse it has almost all the features of the epix but to a more reasonable price. But is the sleep analysis and body battery reliable? I use both Suunto 7 (First beat analytics) and Polar V2, and I find polar more accurate.
The new generation of sleep tracking / body battery has been really interesting to me and I've found it to be much more accurate than older devices. IF you check my latest "Garmin Body Battery / Covid" video you might gain some insight as to how it performs.
@@ChaseTheSummit I saw that one, really interesting. I like se Suunto 7 a lot, but I do not find the sleep metrics and Body resources to be that accurate. It would be interesting trying a new Garmin for tracking sleep/energy and see if it works better for me.
On Epix I'd expect 3-4 days with SPO2 on and always on display. On the Venu 2 Plus probably more like 2-3 days. This would include daily workout/GPS use as well.
The 6 days for the epix with the always-on-display, does that take into account the SP02 switched on while sleeping? Thanks! And love the video and the channel! 😃
For competitive bodybuilding- which watch would of the two watches would you recommend? I'm looking to track strength/lifting sessions as well as cardio. Cardio during prep is done indoors. Im an occasional outdoor person (mainly travel to locations eg mountain terrain). Most outdoor sessions are hike/ casual cycle- not competitive. Im worried the venu 2 plus wont track everything regarding recovery/ lifting that I would get with the epix. Or is the lifting data the exact same from the two? What are your thoughts?
@@ChaseTheSummit Thank you so very much! I havent been able to find much information regarding watches targeted for strength training athletes like bodybuilding or powerlifters. I have tried whoop and was way unimpressed. I was very intrigued by the forerunner family. I was looking at the 955 because of the price point, the morning report, and HRV trends. I'm coming from an Apple watch and don't think I can get with the forerunner 255 not being a touchscreen. But the forerunner 955 might be a good alternative
I have a larger wrist and would like a watch that looks good on my wrist. I know the epic is twice the price but am afraid that the venu 2 is too small. I currently have the Apple Watch 4 that is 44 mm and it looks decent but the venu is 43mm. is that correct? please advise. I like the phone and speaker on the venu but is not absolutely necessary. I see the epic receives text messages. trying to decide. I do workout out quite a bit but not all that trail running and hiking. more lifting and jumping rope and boxing.
@@ChaseTheSummit yes I know. I’m an Apple guy but tired of the square watch. I’m loving the Epix 2 but wondering if te venu 2 pls has the same features. I’m leaning toward the epix.
It's a no Brainer. Venu 2 plus is the best choice The battery life and less rigidity are only the downsides unless you are always into hardcore outdoor activities It basically has almost 99% same hardware and sensors.
99% is a bit of a stretch. I really wish the Venu 2 had some basic form of navigation and the advanced training tools (training load, recovery, etc...) Since there are cheaper watches in the forerunner line that offers these features.
Can u confirm the raise to wake function on epix is better than venu 2 or no There is a slight fade delay on venu 2, which makes the experience bad, and if u turn the AOD, u almsot have to charge it every other day
I have a Fenix 6 saphire That ive smashed (hard) and scrapped against just about every harsh surface you can think off. not only has the glass never broken, theres not even a scratch or even a light buff on any of the glass and barely any on the bezel, nothing that you can se without REALLY looking... thats the MAIN difference between the Ti/saphire glass epix and the plastic Venu. the epix looks like a real watch...much like a bulky Rolex also takes up space, while the venu looks like a toy. not that it matters when it comes down to function over form. fiddling with a touchscreen mid run, ride, fast hike is less than ideal ( as any apple watch wearer will tell you)...the buttons are a most in that situation. nevermind if its raining or slightly moist out. about the scrolling on the widgets, I saw other reviews that showed it scrolling on the epix/f7, I think its a setting thing?
Thanks for sharing. Yes the widgets are scrollable on both the Venu 2 and Epix. the difference is that you can also use the buttons on the epix which is nice while wearing gloves or in harsh environments.
I stick to my Fenix 6 and wait for Venu 3 or Epix 3 :) I am not a pro, but I have used the maps functionality many times. Well, it is not worth of 500 USD however...
It‘s getting kind of annoying that the Venu line is missing so many rather essential training features like Recovery time, Training load or race predictor. I think they should just roll all the 645 tier metrics into this watch, since that spot in the line up is now vacant, and call ist a day. Or make an Amoled 655 now that I think of it.
I have the Garmin venu and I've wanted to upgrade my watch. basically I'm more fitness & smartwatch guy, im doing strength practice / running occasionally / yoga/muay thay martial art do the venu 2 plus have recovery time or energy left for strength activity? what are the plus for a guy like me? (not a runner) im looking for an upgrade for my Garmin venu and i can't decide about my next watch
For sure!
You make great reviews. I really wanted the epic 2, but had to be honest with myself in how many of the features I would actually use. For half the price the Venu 2 plus is what im going to get and I couldnt be happier!
It's a great watch!
Thank you! This is a great review at just the right pace. I am not into running anymore since I hurt my meniscuses doing sports when I was younger, so I would choose the Venu 2 Plus for the types of sports I do (swimming, biking, and hiking, plus floor climbing during the pandemics).
Glad it was helpful!
Super helpful - I’m going for the Venu 2 Plus, can’t justify double the price for features that I’m really, really unlikely to use.
how is it a year later ?
Never change, im so thankful for your reviews. Very interesting both look epic, now imgaine you combine both watchs (Epix Venue) 🤙😊
Thanks! I'd still like to get better at this so my videos aren't all 20+ minutes long lol. Glad you found it helpful!
Glad it was helpful! The Venu 2 Plus is a great watch at a decent price.
Nice! Sounds like a Fenix, Epix, or 945 would fit the bill for you.
The Epix is ridiculously large. I hope they come out with a Epix 2s
These are the best videos for me personally. You’re answering all the questions I have!
Thanks Jim! That's all I hope to do with these!
i am also an avid golfer so i ordered the EPIX PRO sapphire in 47mm....got it for 1100 ( canadian ) 830 ( US ).....i like the Venu 2 plus also but will use the other features especially the golf... cheers from Canada
I have a feeling there will be an Epix Plus in 6-9 months. It just makes sense! I'll stay with my Venu 2 for now till then as I'm in the gym mostly. Outstanding comparison brother! 🤙🏻
That's my thought too. Like the V2 Plus came out a half year after the Venu 2, I think the same is going to happen with the Fenix and Epix.
Maybe! Time will tell.
Venu 2 Plus + Fenix 6 is a great combo and probably still less expensive than an Epix. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a 6s would be great for you
@@twowheeler1000 They need to make an Epix 2s.
What are the differences between the 3 GPS modes you showed in the Garmin Venu 2 Plus?
Thanks for sharing. It's certainly a bummer that it doesn't have LTE.
Does venu 2 plus has open water swimming mode?
Just received my Epix2 and put next to my Venu2… Venu2 just like a toy 🧸 and I am selling it and keep Epix2, love it and looks much smarter like my old F3HR!
Thanks for sharing! Enjoy!
The Epix 2 won't dissapoint. Hope you enjoy it!
I got a brand new Epix 2 today for 750. Not bad at all .
That's strange. Maybe your user profile was set up wrong?>
Epix for EDC, around town activities and fenix for hiking or anything wilderness.
I feel like Fenix 7 and Epix were designed to be released during Q3/4 2021 but then got delayed. That could be why many of these new features are missing. I would have loved LTE and advanced assistance
You might be right. A lot was held back during that time due to supply chain issues.
aside from lte what other features are missing?
@@viccao8431 EKG was expected by many. Also smart assistant functionality, calls and speakers
I think there should be an Epix 2s. With 43mm or so. For me the Epix is to Big.
Honestly I'm still rocking the first venu then you two looks really cool and I really like that epix. I just don't know if I need the upgrade just yet because you know my watch still works but it's definitely enticing.
Do you have burn in? How is screen holding after few years?
The first Venu is still a great watch!
@@nfo981 I have not had any burn in, I don't have it always on it's mostly gesture to wake up. I have yet to have any issues with it so far.
@@ChaseTheSummit it is I really like all the new additions on the Epix. If I was training more I would def get it.
That’s the real stand out feature for the Epix and Fenix. Unfortunately the less expensive models haven’t gotten maps yet. Maybe someday!
@@ChaseTheSummit thank you so much you're very kind to reply..
The screen is exactly the same? I have the venu2, thinking of buying the epix... Thanks! Nice video.
It seems that way. Hard to tell them apart aside from the graphics being different.
Stay tuned!
Woah. I always thought you'd name was Chase. This is the first time I've ever picked up Dave.
lol, you're not alone. I should have named my channel something else!
Need 7S videos for the dudes that prefer smaller watches! Haha thanks man
More to come!
Amazing detailed comparo! Great job😊
You order two watches to decide? Go to a store and decide then... 🤦🏻♂️

Great video, please can you compare the golf app?
I'm not much of a golfer!
It would be interesting to have a run with standard GPS and Multi GPS, same watch same route same day.
Yup, this is coming!
I’m interested in how you use the Venu SQ and 2s together. Why not just wear the 2s? Thanks for watching!
955 or v2+? I am using it for fitness
My HRM-Run and the maps are the decision maker for me. I was hoping to go smaller, but not yet! Epix! When they are available in Canada I’ll use your link
Good reasons! Hope you like it!
@@ChaseTheSummit thanks for the reply!

A fantastic comparison, thank you. Another interesting tidbit is that the sapphire version of the Epix 2 has 32GB of storage vs 16GB on the non-sapphire steel version. Also, only the sapphire version has multi GPS.
Hi. Can you please tell me the name of the watchface you are using on Venu 2 Plus? Thank you 😀
It comes pre-installed on the watch!
I agree. And the fenix 6 is surprisingly comfortable for its size.
It’s super comfortable for 24/7
It takes some getting used to wearing a larger watch.
Great review(s), what would you recommend as a sport tracker for team sports like soccer (recreational)..
For sure, the Epix is a nice hybrid between a smartwatch, and a proper sports watch with durable features!
Looking for a watch for hiking, what do you suggest
If it were me I'd look at the Garmin Fenix 6 or 7 if you can afford it. For something less expensive the Garmin Instinct 2 is awesome.
@@ChaseTheSummit thank you so much for the reply. Means a lot.
Damn been watching all of your videos all week. Bought the Venu 2 but hate that it looks like a samsung watch. Epix, to expensive. To hard of a decicion lol! great video!
So many choices! 🤯

What is the Watch face one the venu 2?
It comes pre-insatlled on the Venu 2 Plus
Glad to see my VO2max is the same as yours... 😀
I took a hit when I had covid. Starting to bounce back now!
Garmin needs to chill with these prices
Lol, they’re certainly not cheap. Then again, neither was the Fenix 6 when it was released. A Solar titanium Fenix 6 would set you back over $1000 2 years ago!
They are brand leaders in the fitness world...they are good but not thr only good watches out there
@@markroyds23 ya, they also are excellent quality and will last long. Which is why I feel confident in buying a used one. I bought a used 955 solar and love it. Will keep for 2 years then probably will buy a used Fenix 7 or Enduro 2 then
Been a 6X pro user and now thinking to go on Venu just because it's more casual😅
Hi Dave ! Hope all is well, are you planning a Vertix 2 vs Epix 2 or Fenix 7 comparison?
Yep! It's in the works.
hello my friend a question please which in your opinion is the best coros pace 2 or the polar vantage m
I’d take the Pace 2 over the Vantage M. They both have nearly the same feature set. I prefer the user interface and display of the Pace 2 . But that’s my personal opinion.
Hi, how about the venu 2 sq? I'm just an ordinary guy, no planning of ironman yet, so I'm looking at an apple watch alternative.
@@ChaseTheSummit Good question Dave. I don’t own the watch, but I think it’s probably just a clone of the cardio profile.
Can I use the Epix to train and the Venu to sleep etc and does it sync up the whole thing? Or do I have to do everything with one watch?
Yep, there's something called "Physio Trueup" that keeps the watches in sync. You set one as your primary "activity tracker" for sleep/daily metrics but you can use another to track a training block.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thank you so much, really appreciate the info.
Hi Dave, thanks for the video. Great analysis. What’s your thoughts on Heart Rate and GPS accuracy between Venu 2 and Venu 2 Plus?
Nearly identical within margin of error.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks Dave, For strength training like weight lifting, pushups which one will you recomend for good performance, Venu 2 or Apple Watch 7?
thanks for the great video. were you ever able to scratch the gorilla glass on a watch?
Unfortunately I've scratched plenty of Gorilla Glass watches lol.
@Chase the Summit Thanka. So will the anwer to your question be spoken back you? Also will the answer appear on the watch itself?
Hi,
what do U think about active calories measuring accuracy on Garmin watches? I tested Tactix Delta against Samsung Galaxy 4 during stationary indoor bike ride. GW4 was much stricter to my surprise. Does stricter mean more accurate?
It depends what they're measuring and whether or not they're including your Basal Metabolic Rate in the calculation. From what I've tested all of the brands seem to be all over the place on this and rarely do I find two that align. Garmin tends to be consistent between it's own devices but not comparable to others.
Do the Epix have higher HR sensor update? Timestanp, 13:07
I don’t think so. That clip was shot at 120 frames per second and slowed down so it may be an illusion.
When you compare apple watch 7 and garmin venu 2 plus are you able to talk about continuous heart rate monitoring please? As I believe the apple watch is more periodic as opposed to live? Love looking at my watch and knowing exactly what my heart rate is.
Yes, I think you're correct. Apple watch takes samples when you're not in an activity so it's a little delayed.
How do they compare in UI speed, gesture speed?
Please convince me the VA5 is dead so I can buy a new watch!
Thanks for the video!
Nearly the same in terms of overall CPU/UI responsiveness. They’re both quite good. The Epix might have an eeeeever so slight edge in some situations but I don’t ever find myself frustrated using the Venu 2 Plus.
Touch screen of VENU 2 works even in gloves and in rain. It is not problem.
@@lubospejchal498 The fenix / epix buttons are much chunkier and easier to feel but yeah it takes some getting used to.
Don't forget the titanium bezel. Also more durable and better looking than stainless steel. I am so happy with the looks of my new watch
Now if only I could find someone comparing the Fenix 5 to the Fenix 7s...
As more people get their hands on them I'm sure it will pop up!
Can you do a solar test on the Fenix 7x?
Yup, it's coming.
@@ChaseTheSummit 😁😁
It would be interesting trying a new Garmin for tracking sleep/energy and see if it works better for me.
epix for golfers can not be under stated it competes with the new s70....its never mentioned...cheers
Thanks for this comparison. Do you know the battery life of the epix and the venu 2 plus when SPO2 is enable during the sleep / 24/7 ?
On Epix I'd expect 3-4 days with SPO2 on and always on display. On the Venu 2 Plus probably more like 2-3 days. This would include daily workout/GPS use as well.
@@ChaseTheSummit Is this when spo2 is enabled 24/7 or just during the sleep ?
@@olivierg9339 24/7
@@ChaseTheSummit thanks, and what is the battery life when spo2 is at night only please ?
The 6 days for the epix with the always-on-display, does that take into account the SP02 switched on while sleeping? Thanks! And love the video and the channel! 😃
Nope, Garmin has a detailed explanation of where they get their battery claims on their website. In short, it’s based on “out of the box” settings.
@@ChaseTheSummit gotcha. Thanks for the reply.
Check out the newer Garmin 255. It might be a better fit for you compared to these.
The Venu 2 Plus is 43mm however there is a 45mm Venu 2 (without the speaker/mic).
@@ChaseTheSummit yes I know. I’m an Apple guy but tired of the square watch. I’m loving the Epix 2 but wondering if te venu 2 pls has the same features. I’m leaning toward the epix.
It's a no Brainer.
Venu 2 plus is the best choice
The battery life and less rigidity are only the downsides unless you are always into hardcore outdoor activities
It basically has almost 99% same hardware and sensors.
99% is a bit of a stretch. I really wish the Venu 2 had some basic form of navigation and the advanced training tools (training load, recovery, etc...) Since there are cheaper watches in the forerunner line that offers these features.
great comparison, thanks a lot
Can u confirm the raise to wake function on epix is better than venu 2 or no
There is a slight fade delay on venu 2, which makes the experience bad, and if u turn the AOD, u almsot have to charge it every other day
It might be a smidge better but they're both pretty good in my experience when it comes to the gesture mode.
Epix looks great but the price is a killer 🧐
$$$$
Should I get Venu 2 for 250€ or Epix 2 for 450€, or perhaps Venu 3 fpr 500€?
You mentioned that there are 3 versions of the Epix, but then only named 2... 🤔
Yeah sorry for the confusion. There's 2 versions Steel/Gorilla Glass and Titanium. But there are 3 colors available.
The Epix is a really good looking watch
It's pretty slick!
Great review! Two beautiful pieces of technology, but they are still too expensive to consider to buy them.
Certainly not cheap!
It won't get any cheaper anytime soon.
I stick to my Fenix 6 and wait for Venu 3 or Epix 3 :)
I am not a pro, but I have used the maps functionality many times. Well, it is not worth of 500 USD however...
It took like 10 years to get the Epix 2 I wonder if it will take another 10 for Epix 3? lol
I hear this a lot. Honestly, I think they just need to add an AMOLED display to a Forerunner and call it a day. That would solve this entirely!
I have the Garmin venu and I've wanted to upgrade my watch. basically I'm more fitness & smartwatch guy, im doing strength practice / running occasionally / yoga/muay thay martial art
do the venu 2 plus have recovery time or energy left for strength activity? what are the plus for a guy like me? (not a runner)
im looking for an upgrade for my Garmin venu and i can't decide about my next watch
The venu 2 seems like a good tool for you. Unfortunately it doesn't support recovery advisor.
